Bridget is travelling on a train to get bak to her family after a long day at work when she witnesses a little girl being kidnapped from a dark platform. Surprisingly, no one else on the train saw it, so the police and her family start doubting she is telling the truth.
With nobody believing her, Bridget begins an investigation on her own, but will she be ready to learn what it will uncover?
This book really gave me chills. Not only it is an excellent thriller with numerous twists and turns, but it also gives an insight into the mind of an anxious mother with post natal depression, and I loved it from start to finish.

The Girl on the Platform by Bryony Pearce is a psychological thriller that keeps you guessing from page one. Bridget is suffering from the effects of postpartum depression. She witnesses a kidnapping from a moving commuter train, but no one believes her. You are given glimpses of the kidnapped child, but even with proof of this chid being held against her will you can not help but doubt if this is even real. Bridget’s life implodes from the inside as trying to find this missing child consumes everything she has. The characters are true to life and relatable which draws the reader even further. You can not help but try to figure out who to sympathize with and who is at fault. Trust me though, you will be shocked when it is not at all what it seems. I love this genre and this is one of the top five for me of the year. I had my daughter read it too, and she keeps flagging me off as she can not put the book down either. I was blown away by the ending and honestly can not stop thinking about it.
I was provided a free advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review from Net Galley and Avon Books UK. The opinions shared in this review are my own.
This was an excellent thriller telling the story of a young mother on the quest to save a child’s life, no matter what it might cost her. An excellent read!

Wow, this book was absolutely amazing!! I read the synopsis and I expected good things, but wow. I think this is possibly one of the best books I have read.
I read this book in one sitting. I was so absorbed and I just ignored the world around me (which isn't hard at the moment). This book was a great escape and is perfect for any fans of Girl on the Train.
Bridget is travelling home from work on the train when she sees a young girl being kidnapped at one of the train stations they pass. But no one has been reported as being missing and nobody believes Bridget. Determined to find out the truth since no one else is interested, Bridget puts everything into trying to find the girl... But could her obsession risk her relationships with her husband and baby daughter... and even her own life?
I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. The story was incredibly thrilling and tense and I couldn't wait to hear the truth. The twists and turns were brilliant and the ending shocking. With the great range of characters and fantastic plot, I really recommend this book.

At first I thought this would be similar to other recent thrillers but it was a real page turner. Bridget thinks she sees a kidnapping on a train platform, but there are no other witnesses, setting this story into motion. I appreciated the treatment of post-partum issues and never saw the twist coming!
This book is engaging and suspenseful. It begins with an exhausted working mother witnessing a kidnapping that no one else saw or reported. Feeling a heavy responsibility to rescue a child no one else is looking for, she becomes consumed with her own investigation, impacting her work and family life and leading her to revelations about her own life. Although the back story involved in the ending seemed a bit convoluted to me, overall I enjoyed this psychological thriller which I consumed quickly.
I received in advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review
Hecking heck, this was twisty! I was riveted throughout, and when I figured out the twist about 3/4 in it was satisfying instead of a letdown. We definitely recommend to all
4 stars
Wow, did I tear through this book!
Bridget, the m.c. is not living her best life when readers meet her. She is struggling with post natal depression, being a new mom in general, accepting her physical body, negotiating her job/mom/partner duties, not really sleeping, and struggling to understand what is and is not real. Also, it is apparent from the jump that her mother is absolute trash. It seems just Bridget's luck that she would - in this stellar time of her life - be the only witness to a young girl's kidnapping on her train ride home from work one night. Through these early scenes and all through to the end of the novel, it's easy to understand why Bridget's grasp on reality is so tenuous, and Pearce makes readers feel that uncertainty right along with her.
While I think the central mystery is way too obvious (I'm not one to try to figure out what is happening early on, but this was just too clear to ignore), I still liked a lot here. The pacing is excellent; the plot moves quickly, and the interspersed scenes from a young girl's perspective versus the standard characters' actions flow seamlessly. The villains are truly awful, and while Bridget makes decisions that seem confusing, ill advised, etc. most of the time, it's easy to build sympathy for her.
If you are the kind of mystery reader who likes a lot of twists, surprises, misdirects, etc., this may not be exactly your brand. However, I found this to be a solid mystery and thriller, a speedy and enjoyable read, and a great use of a tortured, un/reliable narrator. I am excited to read more from Pearce.
This was a great thriller with twists and turns throughout. It centers on Bridget, a tired and overworked mom of an 8-month old, who sees a girl being snatched from a train platform on her commute home from work. No one else on the train sees this, and everyone in her life thinks she just dreamed it- after all, she has had postnatal depression and is not a reliable witness. Bridget, frustrated, takes matters into her own hands and does her own investigation, which uncovers a lot more than she bargained for.
The characters were well-drawn in this story- I felt Bridget's frustration when no one would listen to her and empathized with her for the most part. There were a few times where she left her daughter in another room while she did other things, which struck me as odd when she spent so much time talking about how much more time she wanted to spend with her. She also let people treat her badly and I wanted to tell her to stand up for herself!
When the truth comes out, it's really well done and surprising. I had an inkling of where the book was going but hadn't quite figured it at until confronted with it. All of the loose ends were tied up nicely and my lingering questions were answered. While the book was a bit of a slow burn during the first half, the pace picked up quickly over the 2nd half, and I couldn't stop reading until I knew what happened. There were some pretty dark things uncovered, which added to my overall enjoyment (as that's why I read these types of books!).
Overall, this is a well-paced thriller with shocking twists and turns that will keep you reading into the night if you are anything like me. I would recommend! Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. I couldnt put it down. I was hooked right from the beginning to the very end. It was filled with oh so many thrills. This is the type of thriller i love especially with that shocking ending.
Definitely recommend

What a rollercoaster of a book! Lots going on here including a thrilling mystery, PTSD, anxiety and post partum depression, obsession and deception. It is riveting and dark and full of depth. The characters are captured very well and believably.
New mom, Bridget, and her husband Tom try to juggle caring for their daughter and life. Bridget struggles returning to work and is exhausted, mentally and physically. Through a train window on her way home from work one day she sees something she will never forget...two men kidnap a young girl in a school uniform and force her into a white van. The police are not of much help at all and Bridget suffers from nightmares about what she's seen. No one believes her, not even her mother, which compounds her nightmares. She feels she is going mad. Her life is turned upside down as she becomes obsessed. Those around her attempt to ease her burden but are unsuccessful. We are privy to her thoughts...I practically felt anxious, too!
The twists and turns and getting inside of Bridget's head, feeling her fear, are what grabbed me the most. If you enjoy seamlessly-written psychological thrillers, do read this. You will not be disappointed.
My sincere thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this enthralling book in exchange for an honest review. Much appreciated.
This is a great read if you like something dark and intense. Bridget witnesses a child being kidnapped on her way home, no one else sees it happening or do they? Bridget knows what she saw but why wont anyone believe her? so she goes on a quest to find out who the little was and why she was taken from the platform. We also delve more into Bridget's background which unearths some very interesting things. I feel as though we really get into Bridget's head on how she is feeling and what she is really thinking. I really enjoyed this read and I reckon it would be great if it was made into a film.
Dark, chilling and seriously addictive, I loved this! The main character of the book is really relatable, as the busy and exhausted mum of a young baby and I really felt her vulnerability. The plot develops cleverly and slowly and really drew me in with its twists and turns and careful interweaving. I guessed the ending about half way through but this certainly didn’t detract and I found myself racing to the end to see how all the ends tied together. Very enjoyable, recommended.
Bridge is a new Mum who has returned to work. Her husband, Tom, is the child-minder for Grace, their daughter. With only one salary coming in, things are tough. Bridge also takes medication - and is a great worrier To top it off - she is jealous about not being to be able to stay at home with Grace.
One night as Bridge trudges home on the train from another long and exhausting day of work, she sees a little girl being pulled into a van by two men from her train window. No one else sees this, and the train was moving during the action. This fuels all sorts of problems with Tom and the news stations do not have any stories about it.
Yet...
An interesting read! Recommend.
Many Thanks to AVON Books UK and NetGalley for a very good read.
The Girl on the Platform is an engaging but slow-burn psychological thriller.
Mathematician and new mom Bridget who is suffering from postnatal depression, witnesses a child being kidnapped from a railway platform while on the train back home from work. Horrified, she alerts the police, but since she was the only one who saw the crime, no-one believes her and soon the whole incident is brushed away as a hallucination - a result of her medications. Taking matters into her own hands, Bridget begins to look into the incident, but things take a sinister turn endangering her family.
I struggled with this book at first because the blurb and reviews had promised a dark and absorbing thriller but all that I was reading was the self-loathing and crazy obsession of a sleep-deprived and depressed working mother. It wasn't until after 60% of the book that the plot picked up pace, things started to fall in place and everything until then began to make sense.
While I wasn't a fan initially, the latter half of the book totally redeemed any misgivings I may have had. The brilliant manner in which the climax unfolds is absolutely mind-blowing.
Overall, I found this to be a compelling read with a shocking end.
A big thank you to Avon books and Netgalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Girl on the Platform follows new mom Bridget after she sees a kidnapping on her train ride home from work. Bridget struggles when no one believes she saw what she did and it leads her to find the truth even if it costs her everything. The beginning of the book is slow and it gradually builds until the end. Overall its a good, enjoyable read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
Wow! What a fantastic book. I was infuriated by bridget for long periods of the book and them when I wasn't i was saddened for her. The plot is brilliant, a real page turner.
This book was insanely good and so hard to put down! It kept me on edge throughout, and it literally kept me up at night when I finished it as I just couldn’t switch my brain off!
This was such a fantastic and well thought out plot, and was unlike any thriller I have read before!
I won’t say too much more as I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that I will be buying this book when it is released as a physical copy.
When I first started this book I was afraid it was going to be too much like other books I’ve already read. But there was a fresh twist which I really enjoyed. I would have liked to have not uncovered the truth so early on but the suspense was not ruined despite figuring it out.
The Girl on the Platform by Bryony Pearce is easily one of the best books I have read thus far in 2021. I was held captive from the very start, and I happily devoured it in a single go. All of the boxes are ticked, and I am running to add more Bryony Pearce to my TBR immediately.
Bridget is an exhausted new mother who has just found the last seat on the train for her commute home to her husband and infant daughter. But as she dozes, head pressed against the window while trying to avoid contact with her seatmate, Bridget witnesses a scene that will chill her to her very core. A young child is being abducted from the platform of a station, and as the train continues past without stopping, Bridget knows that her involvement might be the only chance that the young girl has of being saved. Far from being hailed as a good samaritan, Bridget is met with disbelief at every turn, from the police to her own husband, and knows that she will not rest until she battles her own demons, and does all she can for the unknown and helpless child that she cannot get out of her mind,
If you are drawn to a thrilling premise, a masterfully executed plot that does not let up, and a narrator whose reliability remains in a constant state of flux, bump this one to the very top of your list.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an ARC of this title.
“The girl on the platform” is a real page-turner. Its story is captivating and the reader cannot let the book down. I spent the midnight oil twice to read it and it really rewarded me. The main heroine, Bridget, a young mother under postnatal depression sees a little girl getting kidnapped while she is returning from her work. No one believes her and her strict mother tries to convince her that she imagined everything. But Bridget is sure about what she saw and her nightmares of the little girl asking her to find her not cease. As the story evolves the reader cannot be sure about the truth, but the final revolution, that Bryone Pearce builds masterfully, predictable or not, leaves the reader speechless.
In my opinion, “The girl on the platform” is a must-read, a psychological thriller that everyone should read. The writer proves to be a great storyteller and I cannot wait for her next book. Even though the premise seems inspired by the bestselling “The girl on the train”, with the artwork of the cover and the back cover to be the most obvious common point for both books, any similarity stops here. Pearce creates a memorable story, and the most important, an original one that speaks deeply about human behaviour.
Thank you #NetGalley, #avonbooks and Bryone Pearce for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange of an honest review, but, most of all, thank you for giving me the opportunity to read such a marvelous book before its release. “The girl on the platform” is the thriller of 2021 and Bryone Pearce is the new author everyone needs to discover!
Bridget has had a long and exhausting day at work and catches a train home for the day. Then something terrible happened. A young girl was taken while waiting on the train platform. A new mother herself, Bridget is devastated and scared. Yet when she arrives home and tells the story of the kidnapped girl, no one believes her. Maybe she was just too exhausted. Bridget starts her own investigation into the child’s whereabouts. Could this really have happened? Her life unravels when she becomes consumed with finding the girl. This book has everything needed for a perfect psychological thriller. The ending blew me away and brought the whole plot together. Definitely a 5+++ star novel.
Thank you to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
"The Girl on the Platform" by Bryony Pearce is a riveting, must-read adult novel that combines crime and a psychological thriller together in an enthralling tale. Everything about this novel is deeply unsettling from the main character's behavior, the dreary atmosphere, and the inexplicable disappearance of a young girl.
On the train ride home from work, a young girl on a platform is kidnapped. Bridget, a new mother, is the sole witness. Except, no one believes her. Diagnosed with prenatal depression, the police believe her medication has caused her to hallucinate the scene. With no other witnesses or children from the area reported missing, Bridget's the only one who believes there's a little girl out there waiting to be found.
Against the wishes of her husband and mother, Bridget takes on the responsibility of doing everything in her power to find this missing child. Consumed by this girl's case, Bridget risks losing her job, her family, and maybe even her own sanity. The deeper she digs into what happened to this missing girl and who might've taken her, the clearer it is that Bridget has landed on something big, big enough to put her own life and that of her family's in danger. But if she doesn't stop looking for the girl on the platform, who will?
Wild, intricate, thrilling, and highly emotional are only a few words to describe the heartbreaking tale audiences will easily be captivated by as they are drawn into Bridget's complicated marriage and her grim determination to find a young girl despite the odds against her. There is no easing into this story as the action begins on page one and continues to excel with alarming break-neck speed as the tale progresses.
Bridget is a compelling, though oftentimes frustrating character. Some of the things she says and does are hard to understand, even shocking in some places. It creates this fascinating love-hate relationship in which her motherly affection produces warm and fuzzy feelings while her more extreme behaviour leaves behind a deeply unsettling chill. What causes these changes in Bridget? Is she a reliable character or are the people around her onto something about her mental health?
One of the many elements that make this novel special is the insight it gives into the psychological aspects of living with prenatal depression. The author shows how easily women become dismissed when it's clear they're suffering from a mental illness. Nothing they say or do can be taken seriously when people perceive their illness as all-consuming. Bridget's story gives agency to those who suffer from mental health issues, especially prenatal depression, by trying to find this little girl despite the claims that she hallucinated the whole thing.
One thing for sure is that "The Girl on the Platform" is an extremely unsettling and chilling novel that fans of crime and psychological thrillers will not want to miss. It won't be a surprise if this one day gets turned into a film! Bryony Pearce's novel is expected to be published on April 15th, 2021. Pre-order the novel now or save the date!
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for providing me with an e-arc of this story in exchange for an honest review.
Now this was a thriller! From start to finish I was hooked. Such raw emotions and so many twist and turns. I had to keep reading to see if Bridget was going mad or was there really something more going on. Wow. Loved it.
Thank you netgalley for giving me the chance to read this awesome arc
What a fantastic heart pounding book! If you like psychological thrillers you will love this one up to and including the final chapter! Thank you @netgalley for my advanced readers copy. The synopsis grabbed and sounded like a good psychological thriller.

I will say that I figured how who the girl of the platform was about 35% in. Kinda disappointed in that. However, I didn’t know why so I kept reading.
.
.
The story jumped from past to present. Telling of the girl on the platform when she was kidnapped. It was definitely eerie listening to where she was being kept and how she was treated. It was heartbreaks unsettling.
.
.
The main character Bridget is obsessed with finding the missing girl that she saw. She’s the only one who saw her taken. Her life revolves around the kidnapping and she soon makes connections to other kidnappings.
.
.
The ending confirmed who the girl on the platform what I thought. The reason as to why was shocker for sure. It definitely came very fast in the final chapters. I definitely was shocked 🤯

Bridget was on a train heading home after work. As the stations flash by she sees a startling tableau before her very eyes. A young girl perhaps six is sitting on her suitcase when two men grab her and place her in a white van. A kidnapping!!!
She calls police. She is the only one in the whole train to have been a witness to the crime. How can that be!!?
I was gifted this book from the publisher, through Netgalley.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Get ready for a stomach churning twisty story. It's great! An unexpected ending, it's marvelous!
Amazing!!! This is the thriller we all need right now. I read this book in one day because I couldn’t put it down. The twists, the original story, the writing— all of it fabulous! This is going to be this years hard to top thriller. I will be recommending this book to everyone. Just the distraction you’re looking for!!

Thank you NetGalley and AVON/HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. for a copy of "The Girl on the Platform" in exchange for my honest review.
This story starts off with a girl being held captive, possibly hurt. The story is told through the eyes of Bridget Carlson and this girl who is not identified, nor are we told if it is in the present day or in the past. This story is a brilliant thriller that was impossible to put down because I was so invested in these characters.
Bridget Carlson is 28, a senior manager at a London research agency. He husband Tom has put his career on hold to stay at home with their almost 8 month old daughter Grace. While coming home from work one night Bridget believes that she sees a little girl who was sitting alone on her suitcase abducted by two men and put in a while van at one of the train stations that they are passing. No one else on the train saw anything, nor was a child reported missing. The police don't seem to believe her and even go as far as saying that she is seeking attention. They also find her unreliable because she is on meds for her post-natal depression.
The little girl that is part of the other voice in this story, the reader "hears" her being told that her parents don't love her anymore and they wanted her to be taken away from them.
Bridget's mother Alison Monahan is a character that is very hard to warm to. She is incredibly controlling and demanding of Bridget. She insists on Bridget going to see her friend Gillian who is a therapist. Bridget used to go to therapy with her "Aunt" Gillian when she was younger and she was helping her to forget and block memories. Alison even sits in on Bridget's sessions. She doesn't seem to realize that Bridget is an adult with a family of her own. When Bridget and Tom decide that they want to move to a house near their friends, Alison appears to become unhinged. She forbids them from moving.
She goes as far as to call social services and the police on them. Abuse of Grace was reported by multiple sources. She insists on getting custody of Grace. Alison validates what she did because she doesn't want them moving and Bridget's obsession with the kidnapping. Why is Alison so busy trying to convince Bridget that she is unwell. Why is Grace so well behaved for her grandmother?
The last 2 or 3 chapters are an incredible conclusion to this book.
Time to get your heart pumping! This is the thriller that will make your pulse race. New mother Bridget sees a girl kidnapped on a platform while on the train. Nobody believes Bridget. This is a complete psychological thriller you won’t believe! Read it!
3.5 stars for The Girl on the Platform by Bryony Pearce
I’m not usually a thriller reader, but sometimes a blurb will catch my eye and make me sit up and take note.
The Girl on the Platform is about Bridget, who during her commute home from work in London sees a little girl kidnapped and thrown into a van. She contacts the police, but as she has had mental health issues and is taking antidepressants, the police don’t believe her and she needs to start investigating on her own. Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so to. Train, London, woman who can’t trust her own mind but just KNOWS she saw something - sounds like a preeeetty popular book with a preeeetty similar title. To be honest - that’s part of what drew me in, since I quite enjoyed the Girl on the Train, and I was hoping for a good twist.
And there is for sure a twist, a crazy twist which the author was building up to for hundreds of pages, a twist that... I figured out after about 30 minutes of reading! It didn’t make the read any less enjoyable, but I’ll be surprised if someone who reads it claims to not have seen it coming from quite early on.
The writing was great, just suspenseful enough to keep me second guessing myself after I thought I’d figured it out, and I was NERVOUS towards the end when everything starts to unravel. I can honestly say I had no idea what would happen to all the characters in the end - good for a thriller!
I just wish it hadn’t been so obvious so early what the twist was. Pearce kept dropping too many hints to the truth throughout, that I was hoping that I was wrong and it was a double bluff, because it was just too easy to figure out.
I have to finish by saying though that I read the whole book in one sitting in about 3-4 hours, so it clearly kept me engrossed and it had me on the edge of my seat for the second half of it especially, where the pacing was excellent. For a casual Thriller reader like myself, this was an enjoyable book that occasionally made my heart race!
Sincere thanks to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
It’s everyone’s worst nightmare come true – your child has gone missing. Except in this case, Bridget is the only one who seems to be worried. Bridget is a new (and exhausted) mom. She has just started work again and fell asleep on the train journey home. She wakes up to witnessing a little girl being snatched from the train platform.
Believing that she was dreaming the incident, no one believes her, not even the police, since no other witnesses come forward. And there are no reports of a missing child. Bridget can’t let it go and she starts to investigate the mystery herself – but at the risk of losing her family and putting herself in danger.
Lots of intriguing twists and turns. Ask yourself, what would you do if this happened to you?
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Bridget is travelling home on the train to her husband and her 8 month old daughter. She is sleep deprived and struggling with PND when she sees a young girl sitting alone on a platform and then bundled into a van. No one else saw this kidnapping apart from Bridget. After reporting it to the police strange things start to happen. Bridget and her mother already have a strained relationship but what length will her mum go to to stop Bridget moving away?
This was a really gripping read which I throughly enjoyed. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This was a real page turner with lots of twists and turns. When Bridget witnesses a kidnapping of a young girl through the window of her train home from work, it sets off a chain reaction leading to some life threatening shocks for her. It’s a cleverly plotted thriller but I did guess the main twist very early on. This didn’t dull my enjoyment of The Girl on the Platform but I did get a little frustrated at times as the other characters took a lot longer to catch on than I did!
A really gripping read though and one that will have you shouting at Bridget more than once!
Firstly a huge thanks to Avon Books UK for my ARC in exchange of an honest review.I devoured this book in days and I could not look away or stop reading because it was that good. Bridget a wife and mom one day during a train ride witnesses a kidnapping that no one else saw. Y'all it was tense and the way the author toyed with our emotions is first class. I was reading it and thinking one thing only to discover that I wasn't even close in shaming Sherlock Holmes. It's a fast paced psychological thriller that will keep you in engrossed . I had moments I lost my grace with one of the characters but I reckon Bryony Pearce intended it so . Plot and character development was done so perfectly well and I recommend this book to everyone
Coming home from work late one evening, Bridget glimpses the kidnapping of a little girl. She reports it to the police but no children have been reported missing. Bridget has been suffering from post natal depression and the anti depressants she’s been taking can cause nightmares and hallucinations. Before long, everyone think she’s made it up, but Bridget can’t let it go.
This is the start of a gripping psychological thriller. I guessed about half way through what had happened but I think that was the author’s plan. The rest of the book I was just waiting for Bridget to work it out and fearful for what might happen when she did.
At the start I thought this might follow a fairly predictable pattern but towards the end I literally could not put it down. Absolutely brilliant.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. Twists and turns and not sure who to trust in the book, a great read, and loved the twists
What a solid thrill ride full of twists and turns! I read this one quickly and was quite taken with the "kidnapping" and no one believing Bridget and how it all evolved. I did not see some of the events coming ahead of time, which is always fun! Note - this book is really nothing like "Girl on a Train". I didn't think it would be, but wanted to caution ahead for folks who might.
Great writing, great characters and solid thriller. Thankful for the ARC!

I would like to thank net galley , the publishers and the author for an ARC of The Girl on the Platform in exchange for my honest review. I loved every well thought out twist and turn. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
Thank you Avon Books for allowing me to read this.
I greatly enjoyed the story and couldn’t put this down. I had to keep reading to see if what I thought was happening was actually true.
From the very start, Bridget’s nightmares and what she seemed to be hallucinating were heartbreaking and terrifying all at once. A mother’s worse nightmare is losing her child in any way.
Pearce did an amazing job with writing this novel. Every loose-end was tied together by the end, and the ending left me in tears. Happy ones.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Bridget believes she saw a young girl abducted while on a train. No one believes her including her husband. Bridget knows what she saw and is determined to find her. This book was gripping from the start.
Thank you so much for sending me an arc of this fantastic book.
This was a heartbreaking, chilling psychological thriller that I found difficult to put down. When you’re still up at 3am racing through it to find out what happened you know you have a good book in your hands!
The story is told from Bridget’s POV then scattered throughout are moments from the missing girl’s POV which keeps you intrigued.
Postnatal depression was a huge focal point and having personal experience of this I thought Bryony done a superb job of allowing the reader to understand the difficulty of living with a mental illness as well as highlighting just how much someone’s credibility can be undermined as a result.
I thought it was a fantastic plot twist, possibly hinted at too early on in the story as I picked up on it quickly.
You are traveling on the train, going home, tired after work, can't
wait to see your husband and baby, Then you look out of the window and pass a station. There sits a small girl and 2 men are taking her. You can't believe what you just saw. You ask the man sitting next to you, but he saw nothing. You report it, passengers are questioned, but nobody else has seen it. Even your husband thinks you imagined it. Finding out about the girl and hoping she is going to be OK consumes your life. You go to the library, scan the newspapers, but nothing is reported. You have to find the girl before it is too late, but digging into the past can reveal more than you imagined.
I did enjoy this book even though I guessed the outcome.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Fast paced suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout book. Thank you to publisher and NetGalley for chance to read this arc. My first by this author. I can’t wait to check out more!

Bridget is travelling home on a train when she witnesses a girl being kidnapped - or does she?
Suffering with post natal depression and having just returned to work and on anti-depressants no one believes her.
This book has me gripped from the start and the whole story unfolding had me guessing.
Great read.
I was absolutely hooked, a great thriller, although I guessed the outcome quite early it didn't put me off as there was so much more to the conclusion. A brilliant fast paced read with fantastic characters. Will look into the authors other books.
The interesting dynamic of new parenting and the pressures of navigating the journey of post partum and the affects medication can play. A new mum sees something out the ordinary on a seemingly normal train journey home after a long demanding day at work, how will this unravel and what’s is real and what is imagined. Gripping read from start to finish.
Bridget, a tired and over-worked mother of a young baby, witnesses a girl being abducted from a train platform on her commute home from work. Looking through the window of a train, the events play out leaving Bridget helpless. She frantically tries to get help, however, the other passengers aboard the train didn't see anything. As she is suffering from post-natal depression, Bridget's account of the events is dismissed as a dream, but she's convinced by what she saw and starts her own investigation into the events.
Firstly, I am a huge fan of an unreliable narrator - see anything by Paula Hawkins - so I was hooked from the first chapter. I empathised greatly with Bridget's struggle to be taken seriously, and her frustration at those around her who failed to believe her. Her behaviour becomes unsettling and almost disturbing as she becomes obsessive over the child's disappearance. She's almost consumed by the responsibility she feels for the missing girl and risks losing her job, her family and loved ones to find out the truth of what really happened.
Her dedication was compelling, and I too wanted to find out what happened to the missing girl. Her experience of postnatal depression is insightful, with an in-depth look at the psychological aspects and the consequences of not taking her medication. Suspense and tension building is used cleverly, but ultimately the final 'twist' is hinted at far too many times to be that shocking. The plot and secrets she uncovers are intricate and some emotionally-charged moments made me gasp out loud, but for me, the ending was too neat and definitive after the trials and tribulations Bridget encounters throughout the story.
*Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for the review copy in exchange for this review
Absolutely chilling a book that drew me right in.The characters come alive had me reading blare into the night.Tense edge of your seat read a book I will be recommending,#netgalley#avonboojsuj
I would like to thank #avonbooksuk and #Netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m happy to say I thoroughly enjoyed this one!
It was a fast paced domestic thriller without one boring moment in it.
We follow Bridget a new mom struggling with postpartum depression while she’s heading home on a train late at night after work. She’s exhausted and can’t wait to see her 8 month old, whom her husband is looking after. When the train pulls past an old station she watches aghast as a little girl is taken by two strong men and hurled into a white van. Nobody else on the train sees the incident and when she calls the police she soon finds out that they don’t either.
This was so good!
I practically flew through the pages. Desperate to know what was going to happen and furious that nobody seemed to believe her. There were som red herrings along the way but I did figure out what the big twist was at the end!
I just loved the whole psychological aspect of the story! Bridget is taking anti-depressants and she frequently has nightmares. She’s also a little paranoid fearing someone might take her little girl, so you’re really not sure she’s a reliable narrator. But there are no jumbled thoughts here, no confused story-line! Bridget is a mum you can relate to, battling with depression while trying to be a good daughter, mother and wife. She’s also working and not getting enough sleep! Who can’t relate?
So when she starts lying to her husband so she can start to investigate the little girls disappearance, who can blame her?

I urge you to pick this up as quickly as you can!
I found The Girl on the Platform to be a slow burner that gradually builds in intensity and you find yourself getting totally absorbed into the novel. There are a number of twists and turns in this plot that add depth to the story and although I did guess the ending, it was still most enjoyable. Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author for the chance to review.
I love books that make me feel uncomfortable and send shivers over my skin.
The Girl on The Platform manages to do this, and more! Highly addictive read
A wonderful thriller with a lot of unexpected twists and turns that really kept me entertained throughout.
It also touched on themes of mental health, and how that can affect us including the wider reaches of how it can affect family's. I really felt there with Bridget at times as the descriptions of how she was feeling were so detailed and true to life.
Really enjoyed and read in a couple of settings.
I received a copy of this e-arc thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books.
The copy I received had, what I assume to be, the editors notes written throughout it. It was interesting to read an arc that hasn’t had its final edit.
This seemed like a typical thriller; the main character witnesses something and decides to conduct their own investigation. This was the case until about 3/4 of the way through when the story took a whole different turn. Completely unexpected! It was a brilliant twist to the story, different to what you’d be expecting. It then started to clear up some details from earlier, which wouldn’t have been seen as suspicious as it was easily explained away. I didn’t think it a heart-pumping, gripping read but I found it very interesting and clever.
I was completely engrossed in this book that I read it in one day!
When a woman sees a kidnapping on a train station, she does all she can to find out what's happened to her.
But is it all it seems?
Very well written and even though I did guess what was going on, I still throughly enjoyed it
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for ARC
This book started off slowly but developed into a very good read. I did guess some of the twists but that didn't spoil it at all. A very good 4* story
This book is brilliant. You totally experience and feel Bridget’s anxiety as a first time mum as she is trying to balance her life, being a new mum, depression and working life. Alongside this Bridget has become obsessed with the kidnapping of a young girl she saw being kidnapped from a train platform as no one will listen to her and take it seriously. This is a really great and dark psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat, sometimes hiding behind your hands, and at other times silently shouting warnings Bridget, it will definitely keep you hooked until the end.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This story is about Bridget. Bridget is happily married and has not long returned to work after giving birth to her daughter Grace. Her husband stays home to look after Grace. One night whilst coming home on the train Bridget witnesses a girl being kidnapped. The problem is that nobody else witnesses it and she has a hard time getting anybody to believe her.
I really enjoyed this book. I must admit at the beginning I just had no idea how the author was going to be able to make the story interesting. I need not have questioned it. This was a fast paced story with some twists and turns along the way. I managed quite early on in the book to figure out what was actually happening. This could have been a five star book but I felt towards the end a few things just didn’t make much sense.
What a good book – I really enjoyed it from start to finish. It is about a lady called Bridget who is married to Tom and they have a young daughter called Grace. Bridget’s upbringing left a lot to be desired, her mother being a complete control freak. Tom is out of work but Bridget has a very good job in London which is a daily commute. On a return journey home she is convinced she sees a kidnapping which she reports causing drama on the train as everyone is questioned. She is seen by the police at home. Everyone including her husband and mother decide she was seeing things and this did not happen but Bridget cannot let it go and starts her own investigation which causes a lot of trouble for her and her family. Everyone decides she is suffering from postnatal depression and whatever she finds out or says they all ignore her. Eventually everything spirals out of control. The story moves along with Bridget and culminates is a story line which I did not expect which was surprising and a very good plot. Really liked this book
Great thriller. Could see where it was going but keeps you interested.
Worth a read.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
It's no secret that 'mystery and thrillers' are my genres of choice and The Girl on the Platform didn't disappoint.
Although I guessed the twist fairly early on, I don't think it's super obvious and I enjoyed the suspense as I read on, waiting to see if I was right.
Thanks to Avon Books and Netgalley for a copy of the ARC in return for an honest review.
This was a good addictive heart pounding read! Not going to lie I think the first few chapters were a struggle for me. I thought it was a little slow. But I pushed through and I'm happy I did. Because it got crazy after!
New mum Bridget has returned to work after having 8 month old Grace, whilst husband Tony stays at home looking after the baby. Late one evening, Bridget catches her train home from work only to witnesses something terrible as her train speeds through a station she notices a young girl standing on the platform is bundled into the back of a white van. Immediately Bridget asks her fellow commuters if they saw it and frantically she calls the police who meets the train at the next station. However, Bridget was the only witness and also no child has been reported missing, so she is written off as an attention seeker. Bridget becomes somewhat obsessed with what she saw and is consumed with finding the little girl, but will trying to save one life cost her her marriage and own family?
WOW! WOW! WOW! This is the fastest book I have ever read in my life – in parts, my mouth went dry, my heart was hammering out of my chest, and I was rooted to the spot!!
Half way through the book the author leaves a heavy hint as to what is happening, which you may or may not get at time but if you do, don’t worry as you will then become completely invested in how it all pans out, and there are still endless twists and turns, and you won’t believe anyone is telling the truth! To me every character was a suspect at one point or another!!
I was exhausted and emotionally drained at the end, but I absolutely loved it – a brilliant read and I can just hope that Netflix have bought the rights, as it would make a wonderful six part drama.
Bridget is hurrying home as she does every weeknight. Home, to her husband Tom and their 7 month old daughter Grace. They are living in a small apartment in the commuter belt, and it takes Bridget a couple of hours every day to go to work and back. She does this because she has a very interesting and well-paid job, whereas Tom doesn’t. So, they decided that he would take care of Grace while trying to write a book, and Bridget would go back to the office.
But life isn’t easy. Tom is a very caring father and he takes care of the household nicely, but Bridget is nothing but exhausted every day. She still carries extra weight after her pregnancy, her breasts hurt all the time because she is still nursing Grace, and work demands long hours. Above all, she is very unhappy with herself. She is taking an anti-depressant because early after the birth of Grace, she suffered from postnatal depression.
So we meet this woman who is doing her utmost to try and make something out of this life that should be such a happy one. Even Bridget’s mum comes around often to help, even though she is already taking care of Grace one day a week, and although she and Tom are not always seeing eye to eye. Bridget’s mum is of the type ‘mum knows best’ and she, together with her sister Gillian, do everything they can to ‘help’ Bridget and Tom. With mixed success, because she doesn’t listen to Bridget and Tom and feeds Grace sugary snacks all the time.
As Bridget is almost asleep on the train, she suddenly awakes to see they are passing a small station and then Bridget sees, in a flash, how two grown man take a little girl with them. She was sitting on a suitcase and bundled inside a white van. Bridget panics, calls the authorities and the next few hours are filled with trying to explain to the police what happened. She comes home in the middle of the night and finally falls asleep, but then the nightmares begin.
The start of a very, very intense story. I had to stop reading several times to think about what I’ve just read. During the entire book we see how Bridget is suffering, we hear about her nightmares, her past, her feelings for Tom, the big secret she is carrying with her since childhood… It all comes together and it is all very harrowing, to say the least. Bridget is determined to find out why she was the only person seeing the kidnapping and so she goes on a mission on her own, armed with her skills in finding patterns in statistics. In doing this, she has to lie. Lie to Tom, lie to her mother, and lie to herself – till eventually the truth comes out in a very unexpected way.
This book doesn’t let you go. It stays with you for a long time. I’m impressed, very much impressed, with the way Bryony Pearce brings her characters to life.
I think it must be me - subconsciously requesting books where the primary character is female, in late 20s or 30s with psychological problems that deteriorate as the story progresses.
The Girl On The platform definitely fills this description and in fact more of the book is about Bridget's worsening actions than the actual story.
BUT ..... This is my problem with having read so many of these types of book and it should not put you off. The story is excellent and is well told. The book does not use the common approach of 1 chapter for each of 2 or 3 characters with switching timelines. There are a few paragraphs ending most chapters in italics about a little girl held captive. There are some clever twists and turns and the ending is very good.
So for this genre it is a very good book that I am sure will be enjoyed by many, many readers
Warning - do not start this book if you do not have time to finish in a single sitting. Also, finishing it right before bed... maybe not the best idea either because WOW.
Serious 'Girl on the Train' and 'Gone Girl' vibes, but still uniquely captivating.
Bridget has a beautiful 9month old baby daughter, and a wonderfully supportive husband, but just because things seem perfect, doesn't mean that they are. Post Partum is very much real, and is very much a medical condition that needs to be attended to. So, Bridget does. She goes on meds and they help - they clear her mind and help calm her, going beyond what they were intended to do. They start to clear her mind of her past traumas that were repressed, erased.
She knows what she saw. She knows there was a girl on the platform wearing a school blazer sitting on an old-style suitcase. he knows she saw two men in dark clothing take the girl, who clearly did not want to go, and put her in a white van.
And she knows now that she has seen and reported the kidnapping, that she is being followed by an unmarked white van. But they already think she made it up, that it was a dream - so who would believe her if she said anything?
Unable to let it go, she goes and does what she does best - she looks at the data and what she uncovers is more than she bargained for (cannot wait for book2 - if there isn't already one in the works there should be!) but how much is she willing to risk to prove that she isn't crazy?
Absolutely loved this brilliant thriller it had me gripped from start to finish.New Mom Bridget is on her way home after a long day at work as the train passes a station she witnesses a young girl being kidnapped but no one else see's it happen.Determined to prove to everyone what she saw she embarks on a mission to find the girl.Excellent book 5*
The Girl on the Platform is a psychological thriller that keeps you reading into the night! Bryony Pearce tells us about Bridget who has postpartum depression. She witnesses a child being kidnapped from the platform where she is waiting for her train home. Nobody has reported a missing child and Bridget is not believed by anyone, even her husband. She is consumed with finding the child. I could not stop reading and was amazed at the ending of the book!
Thank you to Net Galley and Avon Books UK. for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Bridget is exhausted, working long hours while her husband is at home with their baby. When she witnesses a child being kidnapped from a station, when she’s rushing past on the train, she’s desperate for her to be found. But the police don’t believe her. They think she fell asleep on the train and dreamed the whole thing. Even her husband wants her to let it go, but what if that little girl was her baby? And now she’s the only one who believes she’s missing.
The Girl on the Platform was a frantic, gripping thriller that I couldn’t put down. I was exhausted on behalf of Bridget, dealing with post natal depression, anxiety and an overbearing mother. The author did a wonderful Jon of hilighting the difficulties of both sides of parenting - for ones working away from home and ones staying home with the child. Although a few twists were fairly easy to guess, there were more reveals at the end that had me reeling.
I’d definitely recommend this one for thriller lovers!
A story which sees a Mum, Bridget, witness a little girls kidnapping and become so invested in solving the crime she is willing to put her own family life at risk. Initially a slow burner yet still a highly engaging psychological thriller.
Whilst I enjoyed the entire book I do feel like I only really started to get the "must keep reading, must keep reading" feeling as the story progressed. I love how we were fed little pieces of information until eventually I was like OH MY GODDD, I KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENED 😱 To be honest, I'm a little surprised I didn't guess the plot sooner than I did but I thought the twist of the story was albeit chilling, just brilliant!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review 📖
If no one else saw it happen, did it really even happen?
Bryony Pearce’s first adult domestic noir, “The Girl on the Platform,” is to be published April 15, 2021, and highlights post-natal depression and a kidnap sighting.
Bridgit Carlson, 28, is on her way home late one night from her work at a London research company when, from the train window, she witnesses a little girl being kidnapped from a dark train platform. When no one else on the train comes forward as a witness and there is no missing persons report filed, police and her family start to doubt whether she’s telling the truth. Bridgit is on medication for post-partum depression and her sighting is chalked up to hallucinations brought on by the medications and sleep deprivation due to balancing her career and an 8-month baby girl, Grace. She also has a history of attending counselling and a controlling mother, Alison, who loves to paint her daughter as an incapable mother and a depressed soul. This drives Bridgit to start her own investigation. She’s so convinced of the event that she puts it all on the line to find the little girl and to prove that she witnessed an actual event.
Told from two perspectives, Bridgit’s and the missing girl’s, this thriller is difficult to get into at first. Not having had children, I couldn’t understand what was wrong with Bridgit and didn’t understand why she was being treated with such disdain and disbelief. I commend the author for her insightful forray into the mind of an anxious and emotionally unstable mother. I could almost feel her vulnerability jumping out from the pages. I can only imagine how frustrated Bridgit must have felt experiencing a lack of credibility due to her mental illness. Halfway through the story, the pace picked up and, what were initially loose threads in the story, became part of the tapestry. It all made sense. I wasn’t ready for the mind-blowing climax and was aware of my heart pounding as I neared the end.
Thank you to Bryony Pearce, Avon Books UK, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book and couldn't put it down! The characters were relatable despite me never having gone through what Bridget goes through with post-partum depression. I guessed the ending about halfway through maybe? so would have preferred hints to have only started later in the book, but even so, the twists and turns leave you questioning everything and I would highly recommend this book! However, I think it's important to highlight the many trigger warnings associated with this book, including but not limited to: mental illness, self harm, suicide, suicidal thoughts, depression, alcoholism, etc.
This was a twisty, turny psychological thriller! I TOTALLY identified with Bridge’s postpartum exhaustion and feelings of being “another person” - so that drew me in from the start. Her fervor to find the kidnapped girl kept me turning pages until the end. Even though I guessed most of the situation about midway through, the story was still fast paced enough to keep me engaged and doubting myself. If you enjoyed The Girl on the Train or The Couple Next Door, you’ll love this one!
A solid thriller, with intrigue from the off, and plenty of doubt chucked in. While I found Bridget should really have made some connections much earlier, she is a troubled main character with a mind she can't trust...and it becomes more apparent why as the story goes on. The ending was dark and became more twisted with each page, but a satisfying conclusion to the story. It's slow paced at the start, but soon becomes a book you can't put down. Really enjoyed it. Thank you Netgalley.
This was brill book, the characters Tom his wife and the mother full twists and turn read this in one day
Thanks Netgalley for this ARC copy.
Bridget is struggling with a new born baby and a full time job. Meeting her self coming back with the night feeds and daily commute the tiredness and post natal depression are playing havoc with her. So when she sees a little girl being kidnapped from the platform of one the stations her train passes was it real or was she dreaming the whole thing. With her husband, mother nor police believing what she saw can Bridget prove it to them or did she really dream it all?
This, for me, was a book of three parts. The first third really got the story going and introduced the characters well. Unfortunately it was pretty obvious where this was heading and the middle section really dragged it out and it became frustrating. BUT the final third I couldn't put down as it had me gripped to see where it ended.
Really good read and I would definitely recommend.
A great read, it had me gripped from the beginning. You think you have the twists sussed, and then you are thrown in a completely different direction!
Very clever
This was one of the most suspenseful books I have ever had the pleasure to read. I struggled to breathe, I shouted out loud at times. So good. A really unique story. I could never in a million years guessed the ending. Brilliant xx
Story’s main character Bridget Carlson is a new mom of 7 month old Grace. Bridget has gone back to work as she and hubby Tom decided it was financially better if she went back to work and he would do child care. She is on the train on her way home from work, it is late and she is exhausted. She is resting her head on the window trying to sleep when they pass a small station and see a little girl perhaps six years old, sitting on her luggage waiting for the train. The next thing Bridget sees two men grab her and practically throw her into a white van. Bridget panics and calls the authorities; they board the train and question everyone. But no one else saw what happened.
Bridget arrives home very late after the questioning and is still very upset. Tom tries to comfort her and tells her surely the girl’s mom will report her missing additional the station has CCTV.
However, No one is reported missing! Now police and everyone else including Bridget’s husband, her mother etc. doesn’t believe her, fears are that her exhaustion had her seeing things.
~ I believed her but soon saw that Bridget’s world was totally unraveling in a downward spin.
I read enough psychological thrillers so I know three things:
Be suspicious of everyone
Expect twists and twist and turns
And there will probably be a secret or two.
Yep all three points ran through my mind.
Why is Bridget’s Mom so controlling?
Why is Bridget under such heavy meds?
The Fluoxetine causes tiredness, confusion, abnormal dreams and nightmares.
Hmmm? Might Bridget’s mother have ‘Munchausen Syndrome’?
This was a quick read ~ story kept me turning pages! ⭐⭐⭐⭐+ Stars
A must read for any psychological thriller fan ~ you won’t be disappointed!
Want to thank NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this early release granted to me for an honest professional review. Publishing Release Date scheduled for April 15, 2021
Exhausted new mother Bridget collapses into her seat on her train home at the end of a long work day. She leans against the window, dozing on and off, until a sight shocks her awake. Two man are dragging a little girl into a white van. She has just witnessed a kidnapping. As the train speeds on, she asks other train riders if they saw the little girl. They didn’t. She reports it to the police but no child has been reported missing. Where is the little girl? Why is Bridget the only one who cares?
Bridget becomes obsessed with the case and starts her own investigation. Her determination begins to affect her marriage to Tom, a stay at home father. He’s worried because she’s recovering from postpartum depression and dealing with her overbearing mother. Although Tom tries to be supportive, he begins to think that his wife is having a mental breakdown fueled by rage, paranoia and confusion. Her mother agrees. Will Bridget find the missing girl before she loses her own sanity?
The Girl on the Platform, an intense psychological thriller, is narrated by Bridget and it disturbing to see how she struggles to process information and express herself as she experiences nightmares and confusion. Also part of the story are the worried thoughts of a sad little girl who has been kidnapped. This is a book you won’t be able to put down. 5 stars.
