Description
This inspiring picture book tells the story of the friendship between Flo, Mary, and Diana, and how by supporting each other they overcame hardship to become international superstars.
It’s 1960, and Flo, Mary, and Diana are three friends with big ambitions. They want to be superstars! But 1960s America was not the easiest place for young black girls from the projects to make it big. They audition for the new Motown Records label, but the manager says NO. Not to be put off, the girls try again, and this time, they succeed. They become...The Supremes!
They travel the world, singing hit after hit. Of course they have falling outs, like all friends do, but with a shared dream to keep their friendship strong, they became the USA’s most successful vocal group ever.
Friends Change the World is a series of picture books that celebrates the power of friendship. From musical greats to sports champions, scientists and explorers to artists and activists, these are the true stories of real friends who achieved amazing things. Whether best friends since school or thrown together by a chance encounter, they supported and inspired each other to make their shared dreams come true. This charming series shows 4- to 7-year-olds how togetherness, respect, and friendship can make the world a better place.

I really enjoyed this children's book which shows how the women from The Supremes formed the group and how they became famous. I found it very interesting and the graphics are beautiful too.

I received an advance copy of, We Are The Supremes, by Zoe Tucker. I loved this story about the three women singers from Motor City, and they had a dream, and they worked really hard to achieve them. A great book for kids.
The Supremes by Zoe Tucker
A non-fiction telling of the making of The Supremes and their rise to fame in a segregated world!
What a brilliant, fun and engaging book that can be used so cleverly within a primary school setting or at home to give extra learning opportunities around social skills and world history and knowledge.
The illustrations to begin with are beautifully colourful and engaging. The content is simple in it's storytelling and explanation but brings about a breadth of opportunities for learning.
I would happily use this in my KS2 class as a prompt during Black History Month and get so much from it: Black History and explanations around it, individual differences and talents, friendship issues, PSHE, writing opportunities, learn the music of the routines, art work.
I loved this book! Thank you!
A concise biography of The Supremes, detailing their rise to fame and the impact that they had on the music industry.
Bright, beautiful and inspiring, in the style of the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series with a great message about resilience and friendship.
