Description
This book is about a knight on a mission: to find and slay a dragon. The other knights have told him that there's no such thing as dragons, but he doesn't care. For he has a map, and the map says:
"HERE BE DRAGONS."
He travels right to the spot marked ‘X’, past treasure, suspicious bones and many signs telling him to turn back. He wanders up and down a huge, spiky hill (the dragon's back) shouts into a burrow (the dragon's nose) and eventually walks into a cave (the dragon's mouth)… Will the hapless knight see the dragon before it's too late?!
Young readers will love spotting the dragon in the background in this laugh-out-loud story from the author of This Book Can Read Your Mind.

Who doesn’t love a hapless Knight on a mission to find a dragon?
This Knight speaketh in funny words and would make for a superb read aloud to children. I can imagine using a very posh voice while pretending to be the Knight.
In this tale, he is on the hunt for a dragon and though he has a map, he misses every clue around him all the time. Even his horse is not amused!
A brilliantly funny tale from the master storyteller that is Susannah Lloyd and superbly illustrated by Uber talented Paddy Donnelly!
This is one not to be missed! Join in on each page and see if you can spot the clues that this ridiculous Knight is missing!
Of course, there is a Princess involved and there might be a dragon but you will really need to read it to find out where it is!
Excellent title and ingenious story will ensure plenty of children pick this one up!
A knight on a mission to find a dragon. This was a cute read and the illustrations were stunning. Also I really like how it ended—invites a lot of silly laughs.
A great book for children about a knight and his mission to find a dragon - despite his friends telling him he wouldn't find one!
Some of the words are a bit old fashioned that my daughter kept asking what they meant, but overall the story was enjoyable and the illustrations were really cute as well
This is very cute! Lovely illustrations! Quite humorous and enjoyable. Love the way the knight is so blind and ignorant, and the "damsel" saves the day.
A book made to be read aloud with silly voices & lots of fun.
The illustrations are fantastic, so detailed for lots of extra chat about the book.
This is a book that takes more than one read to find the joy as the language did need some explaining, but the second time through, without questions, they enjoyed it more.
A knight is in search of dragons to defeat in glorious combat to make himself a name.
He might be near sighted, I don't know. This book is about him travelling, grumbling about the lack of dragons, while the pictures show you signs he's missing. I am sure this will get many a giggle out of a toddler.
The illustrations are very detailed and stunning. I had fun and will look up further works by the same author.

Here Be Dragons is a charming medieval fantasy picturebook about a clueless knight and his intelligent steed, who are on a quest to find and slay a mighty dragon. This book will have readers in stitches as they follow the knight through his misadventures, as he fails to recognise all of the clues that a dragon is nearby.
Susannah Lloyd is in top form in this enchanting picturebook – the main character’s dialogue contrasts sharply with Paddy Donnelly’s beautiful illustrations to amusing effect, showing just how oblivious the knight really is. Lloyd’s use of old-fashioned terminology sets the tone of the story and adds a performative quality to the book.
Paddy Donnelly’s illustrations are atmospheric and eye-catching, drawing the reader right into the action and beautiful setting of the story. Donnelly creates an artful panorama across each double-page spread, at the same time including little details that further highlight the innocence of the intrepid yet unobservant knight.
Donnelly also imbues the illustrations with a warm sense of humour, including little jokes in each picture. For example, at the beginning of the book there is a drawing of ‘Ye Olde SHOPPE For the Gullible and Rich’ and its many wares of questionable quality, such as ‘Genuine’ Dragon Maps and .
Endearing and highly entertaining at every turn of the page, Here Be Dragons promises a rip-roaring bedtime adventure for parents and their little ones.
I liked this book very much. It's a story about a girl called sophy, who loves her wolf custume. In this custume she is strong and brave. But she can't find any friends, until she has a little adventure. Up to this story she feals brave without her custume and in the end she finds friendship.
The drawings are very lovely and the story is touching.
What a delightful book! A funny book that begs to be read aloud. The illustrations are superb and adult and child alike will enjoy hunting the clues and looking at all the extra details.
The book uses story language “of olde” when the knight speaks and this only serves to add to the charm and to show the knight for what he is. The horse and damsel are great characters in their own right and form a great partnership.
I will be buying a copy of this and anticipated it will be read often.
I thought this was good fun. It's a gently subversive tale about a foolish knight in search of a dragon. Through the illustrations, which I felt were particularly well done, his version of his quest is contrasted with the reality which children are sure to enjoy exploring. I loved all the details in the illustrations, the expressive horse especially, and the resolution was satisfying. A very enjoyable picture book.
A brilliant picture book that children of all ages will adore. When a hapless unintentionally funny knight is on the hunt for a dragon he is concentrating so hard on his quest that he can't see what is right in front if him. This is a story that is bound to have small children declaring that the knight is so silly, whilst they insist on it being read over and over again.
The detailed illustrations are amazing too with lots tp see on every page and a lot of the story bring unveiled by the pictures alone. A great book for dragon lovers, children who appreciate humour and illustration fans alike.
What a wonderful, beautiful story. Fantastic illustrations which really helped to piece together the scene! My son, who's 6, absolved this book - the fact that he's dragon crazy probably helped though!
This book was excellent. A knight wants to prove there are Dragons so sets off with his horse to find one.
However wherever he goes he cannot find the ellusive dragon.
The reader is let into the secret with clues on the pages to where the dragon is hiding. Children will love look for the clues in each picture.
The princess in the story may be tied up but she is the one who saves the day.
This book would be excellent to read at a storytime

4.5 rounded up to 5 stars.
This was a pleasant surprise. I was just expecting an average picture book about a dragon but I got a bit more when I quickly discovered that the hero of the story, is a bit of an idiot. It made this book so much fun to read as it was really rather funny.
I also really like the illustrations. The scenery looks like actually paint brush work and makes it all look so beautiful. The colours were very well chosen.
I have nothing negative to say about this book except I wish it was longer. I would love to see this as a series with this main character.
Highly recommend.
