Description

Eli Hayes knows what it takes to survive. A lesson he learned at a young age when he witnessed the death of his mother along with hundreds of others during the Mountain Meadow Massacre. Living in a Mexican border town where resources are scarce and safety is a myth, he’s organized a way to stay alive by robbing rich stagecoaches and giving the bounty to his poor townspeople.

Hannah McKinney has maintained her moral compass while faced with the devastation to her family and lands during the civil war. When seeking a new life and refuge in the arms of her betrothed, her optimism is sorely tested by robbers who steal her few remaining possessions, including her wedding dress.

When Hannah meets the man she’s to marry, a scar on his hand gives him away as the despicable bandit who broke her resolve, and she is faced with the decision to marry a handsome stranger with a corrupt soul or face the realization that Eli Hayes might be right.

This story had me from the first page, I completely loved it! Not being completely honest carries consequences, but so does the unwillingness to forgive.

This was a story of love, forgiveness, and how God can heal relationships. I really liked how it both sides had things they needed to work through together. It was overall a light read.... Considering the material had potential heavy matters.
I love the time period and the characters, and of course, the happy ending!

Love on the Border is amazing. It has a heroine who places all her faith and future in God and a hero who has lost all his faith and believes in nothing except him and his family (all chosen, none by blood).

You have two lead characters who are complete opposites in every regard except for their love of the hero's adopted children and their ability to survive. Her remaining family, those who survived the Civil War, had to leave each other inorder to stay safe and Hannah traveled south to the border of Texas and Mexico. Eli survived an attack as a child that lead to the deaths of his family. Both are so strong and brave that you want their happiness and with the action and slow build love story you enjoy watching them receive it and watch as they both find their way back to God and His goodness.

An amazing story that I highly recommended.

I absolutely LOVE Ciara Knight books and am embarrassed I missed the first five books in the McKinney Mail Order Brides series. Love on the Border was a great stand-alone! I will be reading the previous books asap.

Two loving, caring, hurt hearts meet as Hannah meets Eli. Both struggle with their past going in opposite directions when searching for a loving God. Eli is as far from God as can be, while Hannah leans on her faith. Their HEA is a hard road. Yet, both are searching for family and love.

Hannah almost ruins both of their lives blaming Eli for not being the man she thought he should be as a husband. Eli believes she is too good for him. Eli’s ragtag friends and family contain great secondary characters adding to the angst of their romance. His children, and their connection to Hannah, is adorable. Hannah’s faith is strong and fierce for reasons of her own.

Their story is a difficult one, but the read is worth every moment of your time!

This year has been the year of discovering new authors and Ciara Knight is one author I’ve discovered this year that I have enjoyed.

I really enjoyed Love on the Border. One of the main reasons was the development that both Hannah and Eli went through in regards to their faith. Hannah, her faith already pretty strong, discovers whether or not things are truly black and white; Eli discovers whether or not God is real and if He cares for people.

I’ve always been a fan of the mail-order bride trope and this story used that trope well. I didn’t realise until towards the end of the book that Love on the Border is actually part of a series. I will definitely be checking out the rest of the series now.

Hannah is on her way to meet and marry the man she is betrothed to when her stagecoach is robbed. Her wedding dress is even taken. She meets a man, Calvin, who is handsome, caring, and very helpful, and she can't help but wish he was the man she was going to marry. But as he is taking her to the farm that belongs to her fiancee, she learns that this is actually Eli, her betrothed. Disappointed that he lied to her, she continues on with him. She doesn't understand why he is against anything to do with God, but she decides she will pray and try to discover all she can about this man. Until she finds out he is one of the men that robbed the stagecoach. Having had enough, she decides to leave, and that is when the story gets exciting! Great clean story, but I almost felt it was over too soon! Loved it!

Love on the Border (McKinnie Mail Order Brides #6) by Ciara Knight is an engaging story taken place in the 1880’s. This is a different story from what I usually read by Ms. Knight. Usually the books I read written by her are contemporary, plus I read a couple written right after WW II. However, this author has brought her easy read, character driven style to this historical romance too.

Eli Hayes knows how to survive but has lost his moral compass in doing so. A child of adversity he has carved out a way of life, just not a lawful one. Hannah McKinney also has experienced hardship because of the Civil War. Still she has her faith and a strong sense of right and wrong. Two more different people couldn’t be found, making their story one of trust building in each other and God. With an exciting conclusion, it is an excellent story.

Note – The description names the male main character as John Miller but my copy has him named as Eli Hayes.

An inspirational book that, kept me going right to the end. Encourwged me to see people around me in a different light. The mixture of cultures helps remind us of obstacles we face today.

Hannah lost virtually everything after the Civil War except her faith and that is put to the test when she becomes a mail order bride and is traveling to meet her fiancée on a stagecoach. When the stage coach is robbed by a group of bandits and they steal her prized possession, her wedding dress, she is angry When Hannah arrives in town, she later discovers that her betrothed was not only the one who robbed the stagecoach, but he has an animosity towards anything that has to do Christianity.

I enjoyed how the author had both main characters backgrounds as complete opposites. One is grounded in faith and the other one is in denial about faith. Will the two set aside their differences and go ahead and marry or will they decide to part ways? Will Hannah live by example for Eli and show him the true meaning of Christianity?

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review and opinion.

Union soldiers destroyed Hannah's s home in Georgia. She is traveling by stagecoach to meet Eli Hayes as his mail order bride. Before she reaches Mesilla, New Mexico, the stagecoach is robbed. Hannah's faith has gotten her this far. When she finally meets Eli in Mesilla, he confesses he gave up on God long ago and does not think he deserves to be her husband. Hannah knows God sent her to Eli and the three orphans he calls his children, but can she forgive him when she discovers he is one of the robbers? A young woman discovers the true meaning of forgiveness. A clean romance with a kiss or two.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

When I was approved to read the ARC of Love on the Border, I was unaware it was the sixth book in a series. Never having read any other book by Ciara Knight, I found the first two of this series on Kindle Unlimited. The McKinnie sisters’ stories quickly had me hooked and I read the first five books over two weeks. The series was no longer available on Kindle Unlimited after completing the first two, so I purchased books 3-5. I would have bought Love on the Border as well if I had not had the advanced reader’s copy.

The latest McKinnie Mail Order Bride release tells Hannah's story. Before this book, readers do not learn much about this sister, so I enjoyed getting to know more about Hannah. I really like the rest of the cast of characters as well. Roger gave me the creeps at first, but it was nice to see his character growth. Eli was a great leading man to root for. He is not perfect but works to overcome his personal demons. Hannah was easy to like as well. Although I admired the strength of her faith, I did not fully agree with the portrayal of faith. This was my third favorite of the series so far. I look forward to reading Cora’s story most! Love on the Border is a well-written and fast-paced story for those who enjoy this and other mail order bride series. I received a free copy of this story from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review. 3.8/5 overall.
