Description

Ray, a humble, comfortable analyst, barely survives a terrorist attack on his city. Forever changed, he quits his job to become a full-time father so he can give his son Billy the protection and attention he deserves. Ray moves with his wife Penny and Billy to a seemingly ideal town and for a time finds his fatherhood odyssey fulfilling.

But the plummeting bodies he saw the day of the attack haunt him in ways he finds hard to share, even with Penny. He battles the growing effects of isolation, migraines and a deeply rooted anger. He grapples with what it means to be a father.

The more the killers appear to come after him, the more Ray must test his vow to his son that he loves him more than life itself.

A mixed response to this for me. I found it hard to engage with the characters and this made it hard to lose myself in the story. It’s a great premise and some of the depictions of the main character’s experiences of the horrors he was exposed to were really moving. A bit long, some tighter writing might make this more appealing to people who read mysteries as a regular and frequent hobby.
