Epic Vegan Quick and Easy contains an array of recipes for meals and desserts.
This book was excellent. The food photography was beautiful, and I especially loved the sections on meal prep, the tips beside recipes, and the variety of ideas included. The approach that this book took in not just being a good selection of recipes but a good collection of recipes for anyone to enjoy! I think these recipes sound so delicious anyone would be happy to give them a try.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wonderful easy and approachable recipes for the vegan home cook. Loved the sheet pan recipes and a pub cheese made with saurkraut? I'm in.
The book was well-organized and the photography is brilliant.
I do love a cookbook which centres around one pot meals! No fuss, no extra washing up and with ingredients that are accessible to all. No frills cooking that delivers incredible and tasty food is something that all cookbooks should aspire to and the Epic Vegan by Dustin Harder definitely achieved this.
I think there can be a certain amount of stigma with vegan cooking; that it might be difficult with weird ingredients and not that good to eat. It’s so wrong! Ive been vegan for over 4 years, I know just what delicious foods can be made in the kitchen that don’t need animal products or derivatives and it’s books like these that given vegan food a good name!
I particularly loved the Seitan Tikka Masala, the Pad Thai recipe and the no bake cookies (amongst many others) as there’s just so many fab recipes in here.
Would be a definite recommended cookbook to have on every vegan (and non vegan) shelf in their kitchen.
Eye catching cover and title, and even though I’m not vegan I love vegan meals so this was a super fun cookbook to take a peek at.
What did I like? Gorgeous cookbook with some really beautiful pictures! I’m a meatless monday fanatic and I’m always on the lookout for some vegan type recipes to enjoy and was not disappointed. Of course it would have been nice for all the recipes to have a picture. The book also includes some handy kitchen staples, and some basic meal prep. Handy tool and lovely book.
Would I recommend or buy? Epic vegan will be a great book for any vegan food lover! Loved the recipes and definitely bookmarked s few. I would recommend and would love a personal paperback... wish listing it! Five stars!
I received a complimentary ecopy to read and voluntarily left a review!
I am not a vegan and this cookbook looks great! I like the layout especially with the recipe titles in the table of contents in the beginning so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. Some of these recipes look delicious!
Thank you to Quarto Publishing for the eARC opportunity! I was granted galley access via NetGalley. My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
I'd like to start my review by admitting a couple of things. First of all, I rarely review cookbooks. Second, I'm not vegan. So why did I request this one? I've wanted to go more plant-based for years and used to observe a more vegetarian lifestyle while living in my home province of British Columbia, but ever since moving to the land of 5 vegetables and lots of wild meat (Newfoundland) it's been a struggle. Most of the produce in the grocery stores is overpriced, imported, and already starting to wilt, discolour, or spoil. I can't remember the last time we bought broccoli that isn't frozen, and if you want kale from the grocery store nearest me you're going to have to pick it out of a prepared deli salad (which is probably covered with soggy feta.)
So I started flipping through this book wondering if anything that caught my eye would even be possible with local grocery offerings. To my surprise, yes! Most if not all of the favourite ingredients discussed at the beginning are definitely available at my local store. And the recipes? They look delicious, easy, and quick! So many of the recipes in this book will appeal to my little family, and I can't wait to put them into the rotation. Is this a great well-rounded book for vegan households? I honestly don't know. Is this a great resource for households who want to introduce or expand plant-based dishes into their usual rotation? 100% yes!
My one wish for this book is a conversion section. Things like flax meal in used to do the job traditionally done by egg are discussed, which immediately had me thinking I could try such things with egg-using recipes I already know, but this book doesn't tell me how much flax meal to use to replace 1 egg, 2 eggs, etc. in an existing recipe. I'm sure this information is online, but this could very well be the first vegan or plant-based book someone new to the lifestyle picks up, and it would be so much easier to have conversion tips included.
The recipes in this book look amazing. Reading through them they all seem pretty straight forward and simple. I can’t wait to try some.
The layout is very easy to follow. I love the amount of pictures of recipes included. The organization and diversity of recipes is excellent. My only criticism is I wish it included nutritional information for each recipe.
This is such an awesome cookbook. The first thing I noticed is that the author's personality clearly comes through in his writing - his tone is fun and you can tell that he not only loves food and cooking, but has a passion for sharing easy to make recipes.
It's clear that this isn't just a cookbook for vegans, but can be used by anyone who wants to incorporate more plant-based recipes into their diet. The ingredient lists are full of ingredients that I could find at any supermarket, without having to travel around to a bunch of specialty stores or order things online. I especially liked that some of the recipes incorporated plant-based protein substitutes, which I've used and enjoyed for the most part.
Nearly all of the recipes have gorgeous pictures that leaped off the page. They look delicious and made me want to try so many of these recipes. I'm looking forward to trying a lot of them, and there is a great selection to choose from. From breakfast to dessert, with everything in between, including things that I'd be able to bring to a social gathering without any flak, I bookmarked quite a few of these recipes to try out in my own kitchen.
This is one cookbook that I'd definitely recommend whether you are vegan or not!
Great collection of diverse vegan recipes. If you're looking to try to cut back on animal products or making a complete switch, this is a great intro cookbook. Can't wait to try more of these recipes.
What a great vegan vookbook! It has a ton of great looking recipes and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the meal prep suggestions. It even includes a recipe for your pupper called Mr. Benson's Puppy Bites. I am a bit of a lazy cook and some of the recipes had a few too many ingredients, but I guess that's what makes a flavorful dish. I do wish it had nutritional info however.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy is a simple and very accessible recipe book for anyone wanting to include vegan meals in their diet without the fuss. There is a very good variety of recipes and ingredients, and a lot of extra information is included such as 'gluten free'. I liked the mouth watering pictures that were included but it would have been so much better if there was picture for every recipe. Overall a very good and inspiring simple recipe book.
I’m not a vegan. I don’t plan on becoming a vegan. I do plan on incorporating more plant based meals in to my families diet. That being said I think even a meat eater and vegetarian will love this cookbook. My absolute favorite part is in the beginning the author gives you combos for meal ideas. The recipes look incredible and easy to follow.
SImple recipes for the person new to a plant-based diet. ALl ingredients are readily found and cooking will take minimal effort.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy by Dustin Harder is a cookbook that makes me think I could actually go full on vegan! It’s filled with delicious sounding recipes that seem simple to make with easy to access ingredients. There are gorgeous pictures to go with the recipes and everything you could want is covered. I will definitely be adding a physical copy of this one to my cookbook shelf!
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
A lot of great looking dishes that seem relatively easy to make. There isn't many ingredients that I wouldn't already have in/be able to get my hands on easily and the instructions are nice and clear. The photography is also stunning which always makes me want to try that food. Definitely some meals in there that I will be trying asap.
A fantastic collection of vegan recipes that are clear, concise and easy to follow. I particularly enjoyed the loaded sheet pan nachos and the made in minutes pizza cups which I made with my children. The pictures of the food are very well done and had my mouth watering. I will definitely be making more of these recipes. Thank you for the opportunity.
Lovely recipes with great pictures to go with them. I do wish these books would have pictures of every dish though, somehow it is really important to me. I can see myself trying several of these recipes. The book looks very inviting, and I enjoy the colourful and eye-catching layout. The recipes are clear, to the point, and easy to follow.
I think this book is a must for not only vegan households but in homes that want to make more meatless meals. This book is full of so many amazing mouthwatering meals. I know it will be used often in my home and we are not vegan but want to make more meals with more veggies.
Holy cow this book is right in my wheelhouse. Not only are there many, many fantastic sounding recipes, there is a photo of each one! To me, that is a necessity.
There are so many of these recipes I can't wait to try:
Spicy Chickpea Almond and Kale Soup
Hawaiian Tofu and Pineapple Sando
One-Sheet BBQ Mushroom Jack 'n'Peaches sandwiches
Mushroom Carnitas and Brussels Burrito with Sweet Red Onion
Salted Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie
Crunchy PB Pretzel Chip Bites
This will keep me busy for a while.
I love to cook, and ever since my brother went vegan I try to incorporate more vegan dishes into the mix. This had me hooked right out the gate with the words "quick" and "easy" haha As much as I love cooking, sometimes I don't want to spend all day in the kitchen. This had a wonderful variety of recipes and there was even some in there I hadn't come across before, so double bonus points! Great cookbook if you're vegan or even trying to do meatless meals on occasion. Highly recommend.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy by Dustin Harder is a fantastic cookbook that features tons of hearty recipes. I loved the variety of recipes with easy to find ingredients. Gorgeous pictures accompany many of the recipes.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds Press and NetGalley for providing this ARC.
This cookbook is filled with so many good vegan recipes that seem simple and easy to make with most ingredients you would have on hand.
This cookbook is very easy to use. The introduction talks you through ingredients, tools needed and meal prep suggestions. The recipes are divided into 1. Basics, 2. Breakfasts, 3. Snacks, 4. Soups, 5. Sandwiches, 7. Lunch, 8. Dinner and 9. Sweet Treats. It is well laid out with full page pictures beside most recipes. Ingredients are to the left, the method is in the middle and a tip is on the right. Each recipe has a small number of easy to find ingredients, and there are only a few steps in the cooking process.
This is the perfect book for lazy, unimaginative, vegans, vegetarians and even meat eaters. Now, I'm off to make the Garlicky Nooch Broccoli and Potatoes.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The recipes are pretty tasty sounding, and most should be easy to whip up quickly. Nice resource for vegan/vegetarian cooks, even if just for inspiration.
If you are new to veganism, or just new to cooking in general, this book is great! Tons of high quality pictures alongside almost every recipe and lots of basic recipes to have on hand as well as more complicated ones. Ingredients are all relatively simple (NOT the case in a lot of vegan cookbooks!).
I am especially looking forward to the creative tempeh recipes (Smoky Tempeh Peanut Satay to start)!
I can not rave ENOUGH about this book! I felt so spoiled in the beginning with meal prep suggestions. Half my battle with sticking to a diet or life change is planning the week out. He already did that for us. How fabulous is that?! The recipes were so easy to follow and mighty delicious. I just wish there were photos on each recipe. But overall it’s a fantastic vegan book!
I am so excited to try out these recipes. I am not a fan of soups, but I even want to try the soups. Here are the yummiest sounding ones:
* Very fast lentil soup
*Creamy chickpea potpie soup
*Mindful Mushroom and Corn Chowder
*Minute made miso soup
I know that the first two snacks I will try are the loaded sheet-pan nachos and the cheesy burger tater tots. The Hawaiian tofu and pineapple sando is screaming my name. As are the mushroom carnitas and Brussels burrito with sweet red onion. Just trust me when I say that each chapter contains a handful of delicious recipes you'll want to try.
loved the layout, this had great spicy and filling vegan recipes. lots of great photos of the colourful food to show how to plate it.
I am not a vegan but do eat vegan occasionally and this cookbook will seriously help out with some new recipes. I especially loved the meal prep section. The book includes a gravy recipe, multiple new ways to eat tater tots, lots of really yummy looking desserts. I'll be making quite a few of these!
This follow up to Epic Vegan is full of fun recipes perfect for weeknights and get- togethers. The recipes are packed with flavor , yet require minimal time and ingredients. These one pot meals are perfect for after work , or when I just don’t feel like spending a lot if time in the kitchen . As with his previous books, There are tons of beautiful photos of the actual recipes rather than the vanity and art photos often found in cookbooks . This has always been a “make or break “ issue with me as I like to see photos of the completed dish . Dustin’s fun, quirky personality shines throughout the book . His down to earth approach feels as if a good friend is sharing his favorite recipes .
So far, I’ve made the Baked Thai Chili Cauliflower Bites, , Garlicky Nooch Broccoli and Potatoes , and the Made In Minutes Mini Pizza Cups. They were all excellent , and like many of the recipes from his previous “ Epic” book, they will be in my weekly rotation.
I love everything about this book. Unique recipes, gorgeous photos, and some extras that aren't usually included in cookbookz, like meal prep combos using the recipes from the book. I only wish it were longer so I could get even more great ideas. Also, pineapple basil sorbet?? Yum!
I am a total sucker for organization in a cookbook. The moment I opened this one my eyes feasted as well as my guegling stomach. And it's not even lunch time! I love the organization in this book and the list of recipes that hit you as soon as you open the cover. A bunch of recipes really stood out for me- the quesadilla with the pineapple dream sauce, miso garlic cheese bread, the seitan tikka masala, rainbow vegetables and tofu sheet pan, dustins summer salad and stovetop mushroom tetrazzini.
There are plenty of lush photographs HOWEVER, in the salad section it could have been more plentiful with the photoillustrations. I would have much rather have seen the salads shown instead of the roasted potato dish with broccoli as that dish is rather lackluster. Id like to see more colors like I do in other sections.
Plenty of variety here in this book. Its going tonbe a GREAT addition to my cookbook shelf and also a great gift for a friend who has had to go vegan for the health benefits.
Thank you too Netgalley and publishers for this advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoy going through new vegetarian/vegan cookbooks in hopes of finding new recipes. The ones in this cookbook were fun and healthy. My favorite were the sheet pan pancakes! It is a great one to check out if you are looking for new things to break up what you normally eat.
Epic Vegan Quick And Easy is a wonderful cook book, featuring a wide range of easy to follow vegan recipes. Majority of the recipes look fairly healthy, and there are a wide variety to choose from, encouraging those new to a vegan diet to follow a more diverse diet (sometimes hard to know how to complete when starting out).
One thing I loved about this book was how accessible it is for those with allergens, many of the ingredients call for gluten-free flour/oats and there are many alternatives suggested when other allergens are done. For me, personally, this is a key feature as I feel vegans with allergies are often forgotten about, and it can be difficult when beginning (or for family members/friends wishing to cook for said vegan) to find recipes safe to follow.
The only negative I had with this book was the lack of photographs, however, the ones displayed in the book were beautiful and clear and matched the corresponding recipe or section. Being a reader not from the same country from the author, many of the recipes they were giving us I have never heard of, so have no clue how to present them or what they even are. I feel like this could be an easily resolvable issue by either having a short description of each recipe, or a photograph.
Over all this book is a wonderful introduction to veganism, and a wonder spark of inspiration to those following the life-style for a while. I will be purchasing the book as there are many new recipes I have not tried that I am wanting to taste.
This is the first cookbook I have read in this series however I would like to try more.
It was very easy to follow with some good tips. I think this book would make an excellent present for a student going to university.
Thank you for the arc
First of all, the Layout is beautiful. Readability is great, photos make you hungry and want to try everything and the introduction is helpful if you are new to vegan cooking. The variety of recipes is nice but overall a little on the unhealthy side. There are mostly whole foods used though which is nice and more affordable plus more easily available than certain fake meats etc. Overall would recommend!
I'm always interested in vegan recipes, but so many require uncommon ingredients that are difficult to find at a regular grocery store. I also don't like tofu. At all. No matter how it's prepared. I was delighted to find several recipes in this book that don't seem too difficult to make - Spiced Hot Chocolate S'mores Brownies, One-Pan Super Saucy Garlic Ziti, Garlicky Nooch Broccoli and Potatoes, Easy 5-Alarm 2_Bean Tacos, Loaded Sheet-Pan Nachos, and Cheap 'N Cheesy Jalapeno Grits.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group/Fair Winds and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.
This looks so good! I can’t wait to make some of these recipes for my daughter. I really hope she likes them. I will post to my blog after actually tasting them and will update here.
At first, I didn't have high expectations of this book since it kind of looked like a variety of other vegan cookbooks that I have digested in the past. However, this book exceeded my expectations and I am excited to try out some new dishes/combinations that I haven't seen before.
This cookbook definitely lived up to its epic promises. Filled with great, simple and straightforward recipes, and photography, this cookbook is definitely one that everyone will appreciate, whether or not they are vegan. (I’m actually not, though I do strive to eat whole food plant based as often as possible.) I am looking forward to trying many of these recipes, especially the carrot “bacon” (I mean, what?!), the garlic ziti and the pb & j banana muffins -- and there’s even pup treats, endorsed by the adorable Mr. Benson.
I’m very grateful to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds Press for the opportunity to read and review Epic Vegan Quick and Easy.

Epic Vegan Quick and Easy is a new cookbook for one-pan/pot plant based cooking by Dustin Harder. Due out 29th June 2021 from Quarto on their Fair Winds Press imprint, it's 192 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats (ebook available now).
I liked the casual humorous vibe here. The author is encouraging and supportive as well as presenting appealing food which can be prepared quickly and with a minimum of fuss. The dishes aren't too complex and none of them require esoteric ingredients or expensive tools.
The chapters are arranged logically and the recipes are grouped by theme: staples and recipes for ingredients are followed by appetizers/snacks, small bites, soups, sandwiches, lunch, main dishes, desserts and sweet treats.
Ingredient measurements are supplied in American standard measurements with metric measures in parentheses (yay!). The nutritional information is not included. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made for the most part with easily sourced ingredients (not all though, some of the recipe ingredients are vegan substitutions for other products (butter, cheese, chorizo, etc)). Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex and they represent a refreshingly wide variety of world cuisines. There are a *lot* of one-bowl (Buddha bowl) type meals, so there are lots of variations or DIY dinner bowl possibilities. The author has also included a nice meal planning graphic for days when inspiration is difficult to find.
The photography is abundant, although not all the recipes are accompanied by photos. The illustrations are colorful and appealing and serving suggestions are attractively styled and appetizing.
Four stars - there are many recipes included which are perfectly accessible for beginning cooks and busy people. This would make a superlative choice for singles, college students, or younger folks cooking for one or two. There are abundant meal planning options to minimize food waste (and costs).
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
As a vegetarian who is dipping a toe into veganism, I am always on the look out for new cookbooks, and this one does not disappoint. One of the main gripes I have with vegan recipes is the amount of ingredients needed and the preparation time, however, this book truly delivers on "quick and easy". In addition, all the recipes look tasty and are easy to follow
This book had a lot of easy to make recipes, a few of which I'm definitely excited to tryout. The ingredient lists are easy to understand and would be easy to find in a store and the directions are simple. This would be a good book for someone just starting to cook or to cook more or someone wanting to try out new recipes on a budget.
I did not read this through the lens of an educator, but through the lens of an avid cook.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy by Dustin Harder was a very useful cookbook. The photography and format kept my attention and the recipes were easy to follow and included easy to find ingredients. Epic Vegan Quick & Easy definitely would be a cookbook I would purchase for those wanting to go vegan and not knowing where to start.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy is a fantastic book containing easy to prepare, cruelty-free recipes. Cookbooks often describe their recipes as easy, but I often am disappointed by the complex ingredients and directions in some of the supposedly simple recipes. This book, however, fulfills its promise of providing clear directions that break down every step of the process.
I love that the author doesn't assume that the reader knows anything about cooking. He even warns to watch out for hot pans.
This book has so many recipes I want to try, including a lot of sheet pan recipes that look delicious. I made the tater tot recipe, which turned out very tasty. Beyond providing the ingredients and actual cooking directions, the author explained tips for preparation and clean-up that made every step easier. For example, in the tater tot recipe, he explained after cooking the potatoes how to arrange them on the pan to avoid unnecessary spillage and maximum taste. I made the recipe with vegan sausage. It would have been nice if the author had recommended brand names of certain products, but it wasn't necessary (and it's possible he did in recipes I haven't tried yet).
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and making the recipes and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a non-complicated manual for making delicious food.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an electronic galley of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy by Dustin Harder is everything I want in a cookbook and the fact that it is Vegan, is inspiring me to try incorporating some new options into my weekly menu. The great news about this awesome cookbook is that I actually have most of the ingredients and do not have to go hunting for elusive and hard to find ingredients. The directions are clear and the recipes with accompanying photos look delicious. I think I am ready to get cooking vegan-style! Thank you to Mr. Harder, Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this advanced copy.
While these aren't necessarily the quickest and easiest vegan recipes I've ever seen, they're pretty darn close! Lots of great options ranging from breakfast, to on-the-go lunch, to dinner and dessert. I like how Harder includes meal prep ideas/plans and discusses tools and prep needed for some of these recipes in his introduction. Nice photos, tasty looking recipes. A good cookbook staple for anyone looking for relatively quick and simplistic vegan meals.
Epic Vegan Quick and Easy is exactly what it says it is—quick and easy. The cookbook contains 11-15 recipes in each chapter. The chapters are for breakfasts, snacks/apps, soups/stews, handheld foods, lunch meals on the go, main dishes and desserts.
Most of the recipes have familiar ingredients that you may already have in your pantry. I made the four variations of the sheet pan pancakes (plain, berry, cinnamon roll and chocolate chip) completely from stuff I had in the house. Using parchment paper meant I only had one bowl and spoon to clean up since they all cook together on one pan. They were delicious and much easier than traditional pancakes.
I also loved how quick, easy and tasty the 5-ingredient Pasta Fagioli was to make and eat. I had all the ingredients on hand. Strangely enough, it has six ingredients (garlic, broth, cherry tomatoes, beans, pasta, and tomato paste). So, the recipe name may be different in the finished cookbook.
My only complaint is that I would have preferred pictures of every recipe. Only about a third of the recipes in the Epic Vegan Quick and Easy cookbook have photos. In addition, there is no nutritional information. However, the recipes sound tasty so 4 stars! I can’t wait to try the Chickpea Potpie Soup and the Stove Top Mushroom Tetrazzini. Yum!
Thanks to Fair Winds Press, Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Great book! Excellent recipes, with accessible ingredients, great photos and mouth watering dishes.
I highly recommend this book to vegetarians, vegans and those that just want a few more Meat Free Mondays.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.
This cookbook is amazing! The pictures were gorgeous, the sections were great, and there was minimal use of "vegan cheese" or "vegan meat substitute." The author had awesome tips throughout and made it very accessible to vegan and non-vegan home cooks.
Epic Vegan Quick-And-Easy by Dustin Harder
Simple One-Pot and One-Pan Plant-Based Recipes
This beautiful, concise, relatable cookbook with tasty sounding recipes is a winner. I may not be able to find all of the ingredients in the small village I live in overseas BUT there are always substitutions, right? This was a fun book to read through and there are a few recipes I am considering making…soon.
What I liked:
* The photographs – gorgeous
* The basic information about how to cook…the basics
* Easy to follow recipes
* Most ingredients would be easy to find – anywhere but where I live
* That the recipes would appeal to non-vegans, too
* The idea of pancakes made in a pan
* Sheet-pan recipe ideas
* The 24 ideas for creating menus using recipes in the book
* The tip-box with the recipes
* The flavor profiles
* That the recipes were hearty and healthy
* Great index
* Knowing that more than one of the ideas and/or recipes could become part of my menu repertoire
* Wanting to find out more about the author by visiting his websites.
What I would have liked to have seen that wasn’t there:
* Nutritional information would have been nice
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I buy this book for myself or someone else? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds for the ARC ~ This is my honest review.
