The Encyclopedia of Unbelievable Facts

What a fabulous book with a quirky set of facts which I think many children will enjoy perusing; this is the sort of title that they will return to again and again, I certainly learnt a lot from reading this title. The facts are accompanied by fun illustrations which makes each page a joy to explore, There are ten different sections so there really is something for everyone! The facts are random and often unrelated to each other - goodness only knows how the author chose each one.

My only criticism is that some of the answers are a little woolly and imprecise e.g. how many times does a blood cell travel through the heart each day? Answer: More than 1,000 times...I wanted a more definitive explanation. Are we talking 1001 or 5000 - or somewhere in between. I know that the children in my school would question the imprecision of that answer! Perhaps it would have been better to omit questions that don't have a clear answer? I'm sure that Jane Wilsher's research in the collation of this book meant that many unbelievable facts did not make the cut.

Don't let that put you off - this is a great book with lots to learn from it: probably things you have never thought to ask. This will be a big hit when I can get a copy in my library!

A 'light touch' encyclopedia, this book has a natural, chatty tone and quirky illustrations. Rather than in depth, precise answers, it leans more toward a quick Q&A format, with short facts, historical figures and trivia. It covers lots of categories including the human body, animals, culture and customs and would appeal to children 6+.
There's even a glossary at the back (labelled a 'jargon buster'.
Lots of fun facts which make it a quick read for non-fiction fans.

Really enjoyed reading this book with my son and all the facts it's very fun and informative. It made a nice surprise for me and my little boy. I would highly recommend it for those who like to read and like facts.

It contains so many interesting and incredible facts to pore over and the accompanying illustrations by Louise Lockhart are delightful. I really liked the inclusion of the ‘how to read this book’ page and the clearly organised chapters. This is a fantastic book that children will love to revisit time and again and I can’t wait to share it with my class.

5☆ Fun, Witty, Entertaining Facts for Children!

The Encyclopedia of Unbelievable Facts is a witty and entertaining children's fact book.

The book is made up of several chapters consisting of :-
Human Body,  Science and technology, Animals, The Natural World and Space.

Each section has brilliant Facts all based around the subject heading.
I actually learnt quiet a bit and some of the Facts even made me laugh.

I loved the added illustrations, they will most definitely appeal to children as they are fun and eye catching.

The Encyclopedia of Unbelievable Facts is a great book to introduce children to the joys of Encyclopedias.
This book is perfect for ages 5-10years, it would make a great gift idea or as a fun activity to do with your child. Also it gives children an opportunity to explore the Facts further.
Either way there is plenty of fascinating facts to keep children entertained for ages.

A great non-fiction book organised into different areas including the body, science and nature and history. Really accessible and fun to read.
This is a book you could read throughout or delve into from time to time for the amazing facts.

The Encyclopedia of Unbelievable Facts is a superb book for both kids and adults alike (although it is recommended for children aged 7-9 years old) with so many intriguing, odd and unique questions posed followed by the fact as the answer. Let's face facts, facts are just fascinating especially the unbelievable ones. They open our eyes, they boggle our brains and they help us to impress our friends and families. If you're a philomath - that's someone who loves facts - and you want to be a pantomath - that's someone who knows everything - then this is the book for you. This encyclopedia is bursting with 500 facts on a variety of subjects and many of them are unbelievable, make you think and inspire further curiosity.

Split into 10 neat sections with each packed with 50 fascinating facts, the chapter titles are as follows: Introduction, Human Body, Science + Tech, Animals, Natural World, Space, Mindbending Stuff, History, Customs + Cultures, Our World and Arts + Entertainment and a jargon buster follows these to help with tricky words for younger readers and fact-finders. This is an accessible, interesting and informative book that provides useful facts in bite-size, digestible chunks and is perfect for dipping in and out of and to be read either alone or with a parent. A versatile, entertaining and enjoyable little book. Highly recommended.

The Encyclopedia of Unbelievable Facts by Jane Wilsher is one of the best nonfiction children’s books I read. It is full of interesting and fun information and beautiful illustrations. I couldn’t stop reading and sharing the amazing answers to excellent questions. This would make an adorable gift for all children. Lovely book!
