Description
In this book from the critically acclaimed, multimillion-copy best-selling Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the life of Andy Warhol, the ground-breaking pop artist.
Little Andy was the tiniest and palest child of the Warholas, a humble couple from Slovakia who lived in Pittsburgh. Sketchbook glued to his hand, he loved every minute of drawing, but he was too shy to show his work to others, even to his family! As an adult he got a chance to publish his first illustration for a glamorous magazine. He turned his attention to the ordinary, like soup cans he ate from for lunch every day. He showed the world that the ordinary objects could POP, and founded a cultural movement. This moving book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the inspiring artist’s life.

The exceptional Little People, BIG DREAMS series prides itself on providing child-friendly biographies of renowned public figures and celebrities and in this, the sixtieth book in the series, we explore the life and times of leading figure in the visual movement know as pop art, Andy Warhol. This potted biography runs from his birth in 1928 Pittsburgh, his early years in which struggled with shyness and the beginning of his love affair with drawing and painting. It’s written in such an empowering fashion that gives children the message that they can achieve their dreams whatever they may be and shows that even with while suffering from crippling shyness you can overcome it.
What's impressive is there is just enough here to enable a child to become curious yet not enough to overwhelm, and the colourful, fun illustrations complement the text perfectly. It's an educational and entertaining read that empowers young ones to pursue their dreams without limits and inspires children to dream bigger and realise their fullest potential, by introducing them to extraordinary people throughout history. It's a wonderfully engaging and simple to understand book that also helps kids with literacy and fosters an enjoyment of reading. You simply cannot go wrong with this series in general as everything is executed perfectly and tailored beautifully to youngsters. Highly recommended.

Andy Warhol is known as one of the worlds most influential ‘pop’ artists, who is remembered today for his ability to find beauty in everyday objects and transforming them into works of art. He is also known for his reimagined works of popular icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and Elvis.
This wonderful short book introduces children to the artist genius that is Andy Warhol. It tells the story of his life and his journey to becoming the influential artist he is known for today. As you follow his story from childhood to adult life you learn how a quiet, shy little sickly boy discovers his love for drawing and finds the confidence through his work to share his bright, bold view of the things around him. The story is told using simple child-friendly text, that perfectly summarises Andy’s life in a way children can understand. The illustrations which accompany the text are bright and bold, with the familiar ‘pop art’ feel recognised in the artists work. These compliment the book and gives it a fab cartoon-like look which children will enjoy.

I love these books!!
The series 'little people big dreams' is just brilliant.
This definitely isn't my fab book int he series but it was still brilliant nevertheless.
I love how the young/little Andy Warhol just looked like the grown up version haha. I also like how the illustrations of Warhol paid tribute to the style of his artwork.
I never knew that he was actually called Andy Warholas and was called Warhol by mistake - yet this is the name that stuck.
Learnt something new there!!
Love these books!
My thanks to Quarto Group - Francis Lincoln Children’s Books for a temporary digital edition via NetGalley of ‘Andy Warhol’, written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and illustrated by Timothy Hunt,in exchange for an honest review.
This little book is intended for children aged 4-7 and is part of its publishers highly acclaimed ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS’ series that introduces young readers to the lives and works of significant people including writers, artists, scientists, political figures and the like via books and educational games.
I always enjoy reading the books in this series as Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is so skilled in distilling the essence of a life focusing upon their early childhood.
I was especially impressed by Timothy Hunt’s illustrations. As shown on the cover and previews of its inner pages, these perfectly captured the bright colours and simple lines of Warhol’s pop art. They also were very playful, such as Andy flying away on a tomato soup can. So adorable!
Following the main text is a timeline with photographs and suggestions for further reading suitable for young readers.
This is another excellent addition to this superb series that I am always happy to recommend to parents, educators, and librarians. As an admirer of Andy Warhol’s art this was such a delight.
This is an inspiring tale of one of the most famous modern art figures. I always adore the story telling style and illustrations and eager await further releases.
Fabulously intriguing and interesting.
This book tells a story and one that is full of interesting factual information that doesn't feel like you're learning.
This whole series is amazing and is a great way to get your children learning some of the basics about key people in history and fame.
The book itself is well designed, bright and colurful with just the right mix of words and pictures so meets a varied audience.
This story about Andy Warhol not only taught my daughter some bits and pieces but also myself and made us talk about him in more detail.
Having previously bought other books in the little people Big Dreams series for my daughter and I to read, this book is just as informative, bright and easily accessible as the others.
These books are good biographical introductions for younger readers (and also time pressed adults) to famous scientists, artists, engineers etc and this book is no exception.
This book is about the famous artist Andy Warhol, you may have heard of the phrase, everyone has 15 minutes of fame, this originated with Andy Warhol.
The genius of the book is the way in which the author distils a very busy life into just 30 pages, combined with superb vibrant illustrations that enchant the younger reader, inspiring children with the possibility of what they too could accomplish in the future.
I knew of Andy Warhol and the odd snippet about him, but this book was superb in briefly giving me his biography in such as few pages.
Due to the length of the books, the child can either read it themselves or it is just the right length for reading to your child at night.
I recommend this book in the Big Dreams series along with all the others, my personal favourites being Marie Curie and Amelia Earhart.
4☆ Fun, Informative and Inspiring!
Ok so I'm going to confess I had heard of Warhol's Art but didn't know anything about him. So for me this book was quiet fascinating.
He created Pop Art....'The Art for All'
He liked to take ordinary things like tins of soup and make them Pop with colour and vibrancy.
What I learnt from reading Warhol's story, is to never give up on your dreams, it's ok to be different, and to appreciate Art in all forms. As Art is expressive and has many meanings to different people.
As always this Fantastic series of books are fun, factual, eye catching and informative. Perfect for all ages. It's nice to get some brief history in a snappy way that's not boring for children. This brilliant book would make the perfect gift.
I enjoyed this book and I thought that it was another great addition to this fabulous series.
This book features Andy Warhol, he is probably someone that most children, who the book is aimed at, would not have heard of so it gives a great overview on him.
I loved finding out as an adult that is name was always wring but he just went with it – a great fact to learn as an adult! A great book for kids and one of my favourite series for little ones!
It is 4 stars from me for this one, another great addition to the series, fabulous images and easy to follow – highly recommended!
I found this book about Andy Warhol very interesting, as I had never really read much about him before. I was happy to find out about his life and how he came to be a famous artist, creating art from everyday objects. This would be an interesting book for students to read and perhaps they would then want to go on and find out more about Andy's artwork. The book itself had lovely, bright illustrations.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story of Andy Warhol is fantastically told and paired with bright pop illustrations makes it such a great read. I find the illustrations and art in this title so cool and quirky. I'm even considering using it as an art topic for school when I'm back in the classroom next year. A definite must have for your collection!

Many thanks to Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another great edition to the collection.
Bright, colourful and informative a great book for children and adults!
Thanks Netgalley for this arc
I love this series and how they give information about important people. I wish they gave a bit more detail or information, but it is a good way to start learning or having a discussion. It certainly made me want to learn more about Andy Warhol. There is a short biography at the end with more information, but I don't think young readers would necessarily read that part.
