Description

Rookie Homicide Detective Malachi Wolf investigates a string of murders in Washington, DC and uncovers both a vigilante killer and a terrorist conspiracy—making himself a target.

After his father’s murder, Malachi abandoned his economics doctorate to become a police officer and protect the innocent. Now, he must solve his first homicide to prove himself worthy of the badge. Austin grew up in a strict religious home, with an abusive father who taught him to solve problems with violence, so when an Islamist infiltrator murders Austin’s girlfriend, he seeks revenge the only way he knows how. The body count grows as Malachi hunts the brutal assassin and unearths a sinister scheme that threatens the country. The former academic seeking justice and a vigilante set on revenge travel on a collision course—two men fighting evil by different means. Can Malachi stop the murders and expose the plot before the streets run with blood?

Jeffrey James Higgins chased terrorists around the world during his career as a supervisory special agent, and he brings gritty authenticity to his writing. This fast-paced thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat.

This was a really interesting story. It was action packed, fast paced and makes you wonder how close to the true of today this could be. This is a new to me author and I will be looking for more stories by Mr Higgins.

The action starts with a SF-confessed, soon-to-be serial killer, who wishes to ride the world of the mouthpieces of a steadily-growing evil growing at the heart of a free America. But he is nearly foiled from the outset by a tenacious cop who happened to be in the vicinity, Detective Malachi.

Having once let him go, Malachi is determined not to let this one slip the net. However, the murderer is to strike several times again. Malachi soon begins to discern motive and possible means, bit he is to find that his colleagues are not receptive to his ideas.

He is to find an ally, as well as possible live, in an expert on terrorist politics in the beautiful Zahra, only now, both get pulled into greater danger.

This is a meaty plot with meaty themes, but the writer seems to have a good grasp on how certain beliefs and ideologies might be deployed by manipulative and seditious minds. Whether or not the writer has agendas beyond crafting a classy thriller will be something the writer will need to decide for themselves.

The characters are well fleshed out. The hero Malachi is as damaged and complex a policeman as might be wished for, and he certainly has a talent for pitti g himstlves in harm's way in his bid to get at the truth - making for good, suspenseful reading. Recommended.
