Written in memoir style, but with lessons that apply to readers in different circumstances, this book is practical and inspiring. Overall, it's one I'd recommend. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A business memoir with a difference.
I don't usually read business memoirs, so Barbara Polk's book was a delightful surprise. What a life!
I am not a woman of colour, but I have worked in large companies and academic institutions, so I do have an understanding of the dynamics of management systems and procedures.
The key learning points for me was the underlying message that you can leverage every aspect of your life, good and bad, to have the future you deserve.
Barbara:
* focused on what she wanted to accomplish
* was aware of her strengths
* amplified those areas rather than wasting time on sub-optimal tasks
* valued her time.
Chapter 15 - Facing your fears and Chapter 16 - Wheel of Fortune - were particularly useful.
Recommended.
