The Beginner's Guide to Wheel Throwing

This is a well written, attractive book that covers all of the basics of throwing pottery on a wheel. It makes the process seem very doable, and not at all daunting. The illustrations are helpful in explaining the procedure, and descriptive.

This was really great and I love how there's a ton of pictures as reference. As someone who has never done this, I think I could definitely get a good start from this book!

The Beginner's Guide to Wheel Throwing A Complete Course for the Potter's Wheel by Julia Claire Weber is a great compendium for a beginner interested in wheel throwing,.  When starting out on the wheel trying to keep the basic information straight can be a challenge and there is no way to take notes when one’s hands are covered in clay. One note, this book is not devoted solely to throwing technique but covers the many aspects necessary to successfully complete a pot.

The section on stages of clay with the trouble shooting tips is very useful for any beginner. So many factors can influence the success of a pot but understanding the stages of clay is critical.  My favorite section is the one devoted to surface decoration.  There is such a wealth of knowledge and so many great tips that I found myself returning to this section several times. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.). This is an excellent reference book that any beginner wheel potter should have in their library.

This is and excellent book for the first time potter. It explains from the basic steps and moves onto more difficult tasks, with easy to follow photo and text explanations.
I love this book and how it truly targets beginners, there are many pottery books on the market, but many just skim through these basic steps, leaving the would be potter frustrated in the fundamentals. I have potted for many years as a hobby and I really recommend this book to beginners and experienced alike.
