I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is an interesting book!
As a rum drinker I'm always interested in learning more. This book talks about the disputed history of rum and how it's made. It also talks about the differences in types of rum - like silver or aged - and different brands of rum.
About half of the book is the journal portion that is broken down by how the rum is served, tasting notes, where it fits on the spectrum of flavor, and room for notes. There are also recipes included for standard rum-centric drinks like mai tais and daquiris.
I was hoping for a few more recipes and history, but it's an interesting read.
Thanks NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am not much of a drinker. I drink in social occasions but I've always been fascinated by the making of alcohol and lets be honest I love liquor bottles they are so pretty to look at.
I've had Rum before but I can't say that knew much about it before this book.
This was such a delight to read from the introduction you get the sense that you're talking to a friend and they're giving you the ins and outs of Rum.
From the history of it to some cool party drinks.
This book really goes into detail about the making of the product. It talks about reading the labels and tasting it, it talks about the famous Rums that we've probably had or at least seen.
The cocktail recipes were such a good add because you feel like you can in some way put what you've learned to the test.
& best of all this has "Tasting Notes" were you can write down knowledge of what you're drinking.
So I will be adding this to the cookbook shelf because it's honestly such a great addition.
I thought this was a brilliant book, especially as it was about my favourite tipple! Lots of interesting facts and tasting tips that I had no clue about before.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
A detailed book on Rum from its history to how it is made and who makes it. There are plenty of photographs to accompany its history.
The book provides details on some of the main rum drinks you can purchase in the shops (Barcadi, Captain Morgan) along with 6 simple cocktail recipes (each one has a photograph). There are also many pages for you to put your own tasting notes in each time you try a new rum.
I certainly learn much about rum and found it useful. Next time I'm in the supermarket I will be able to read the labels with more understanding. I have already looked at the rum bottle I have at home and now know more about it from the information contained within this book; had thought it was a good one, but from the information on the label, its got lots of extras added rather than made in the distilling process!
I would have liked more cocktail recipes in the book to try and perhaps fewer tasting note pages.
I received this book from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
Perfect for anyone who enjoys Rum, this book includes a short history, how rum is made, cocktail ideas, what to consider when tasting, and a guide sheet to complete after each tasting. It has plenty of photos to illustrate it too. I also really enjoyed ‘Enjoying Bourbon’ written in a similar format by the same author. Thank you to Frank Flannery, Net Galley and Quarto for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A super interesting guide on the history, making, and varieties of rum! I liked that it also went through popular brands that the average person knows, such as Bacardi and Captain Morgan, and also included recipes and popular rum drinks.
This book would make an ideal gift for any rum drinker (along with a bottle of course).
The book covers the following :-
Brief history of rum
Making of rum
How to read labels
Tasting
Rum cocktails
Tasting notes
I feel that the tasting notes take up a large part of the book, and I personally would have preferred more cocktail recipes.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.
