Almost a Whisper

This book was thoroughly enjoyable, another good one in the series.
Joanna Piercy is tasked with interviewing a young woman who was standing on the ledge of a huge drop with a baby in a buggy, looking as if she was about to drop the baby into the chasm below. However, the girl is not talking. Her clothes and the baby 's clothes have blood spatter on them, so Joanna knows someone is either hurt or dead, but the girl will not or cannot talk.
It's extremely frustrating for Joanna, who is not known for her patience, and the girl is finally brought under the care of a psychiatrist who will not rush the girl into talking, much to the disgust of Joanna. It is turning into a long and tedious case, with barely any clues.
I was quite eager to get to the end, feeling particularly bad for the little boy, and found the end not wholly satisfying. Also, the relationship between Joanna and her husband and baby puzzles me a bit, but I don't want to give anything away. Nevertheless, I did like the book a lot and can't wait for the next one. Definitely recommended!

The fifteenth outing in the Joanna Piercy mystery series finds the Detective Inspector with a thoroughly distressing new case on her hands, Not only is the case distressing but it is increasingly frustrating. Ultimately a forensic psychiatrist is called to assist. Things are about to turn very sinister indeed. Well crafted with a cast of credible characters and a disturbing but compelling storyline.

DI Joanna Piercy is baffled when a young woman and a child are found at the edge of a cliff, their clothes splattered with blood. Especially since the woman won't talk. She opts to call in Dr. Claire Roget, a forensic psychologist. This is a twisty procedural which takes some time to get going. Joanna is an interesting character and I'm certain that fans of this long running series will be pleased to see how her life is changing. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

Even if it's an entertaining and gripping story it's not the best in this series. The mystery part works fine and it's solid, I had some doubts about the part regarding Joanna's personal life.
The characters are fleshed out, the mystery is solid and gripping.
It can be read as a standalone but it's better to read the rest of the series.
