It’s been suggested I try an anti-inflammatory diet by various people/professionals as a way to to help my chronic pain. I’ve spent some time looking up anti-inflammatory recipes but don’t have a solid understanding of which foods are ”good” or ”bad”. The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods: To Boost Your Health and Immune System by Lizzie Streit seemed like a good way to learn more. The is a registered dietitian who has published another book, various recipes and has a website called Itsavegworldafterall.com. The book is split into 3 major sections: what it means for something to be considered anti-inflammatory; detailed information about 50 different foods; and recipes featuring those foods. There are also tons of color photos throughout.
The book was informative but a little overwhelming. For each of the 50 foods the author described the food, tips for adding it into your diet, a sample serving size’s nutrition information and whether it’s suitable for people following certain diets for medical or personal reasons. This was both good and bad because certain diets were mentioned for some of the foods but not all. For example, the low FODMAP diet is only mentioned maybe twice. I think this would have been helpful to include for more of them (at the very least the fruit section) since I know first hand it is confusing to figure out is FODMAP friendly. While I know that no book can cover everything, it gets hard cross-referencing a bunch of different food lists. Finally, I wish there were a few more recipes at the back of the book.
Overall I would suggest this book to anyone interested in learning more about the anti-inflammatory properties of various foods.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of "The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods" by Lizzie Streit. This is not sponsored and my opinions are all my own.
This book is a great guide to 50 foods that are anti-inflammatory and can be used to "soothe chronic inflammation and improve health" as Streit writes. I really appreciated the section "how to use this book." Additionally, the author includes a glossary at the beginning of the book that explains some of the key terms. Those sections aided in making this information more accessible and digestible for anyone.
In general the set-up of this book is extremely user-friendly. For each of the 50 foods, it covers the basics of what it is, how it fits into your diet, and examples of how to eat it. This book not only goes through seven different categories of foods, but includes some useful recipes as well making it very beginner-friendly.
I really enjoyed the graphics and displays in this book. The photos were high-quality and beautiful. The backgrounds and overall aesthetic was very pleasing and more modern than usual recipe or health-related books that I have read.
One thing I would've preferred to be added would be citations and references to the studies that were mentioned throughout.
This book is full of facts and information about inflammation. It gave a great overview of food to eat and how to combat inflammation.I would definitely recommend this book
I found the ideas and suggestions in this book most interesting. I do have some stomach issues and plan to follow this book for a while and see if that makes any difference. Made a lot of sense when looking back at when my stomach is more irritated ,worth a try.
This is a helpful, informative guide to help readers add foods that are anti-inflammatory.. I liked the good explanations and beautiful illustrations as well as serving suggestions and benefits to your heath.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was around 3.5 stars for me.
The book is a bit overwhelming in some places and a bit high level in others. This book talks about anti-inflammatory foods and how to incorporate them into your diet. The book touches briefly on other diets like keto, but doesn't delve into them much. There's information on what foods are "good" and what foods cause inflammation and has a Q&A that covers things like diary.
The book is broken down by food with approximately a page of information about each including why the food is anti-inflammatory and how to eat more of it. There are some recipes included as well which is helpful. More recipes would be nice.
Overall there's a variety of foods and helpful information in this book.
really liked the book, it made me understand a lot of how I can help myself with my IBD and what things I should moderate in my food, what I need to eat more and the things I need to change to better my diet needs.
I would have loved more recipes at the end, but with all this info I think I can do a little recipe searching with this marvelous anti inflammatory foods.
This is a really useful reference book. The first few pages give a really straightforward introduction, and I particularly liked the red, amber, green charts which detail which foods are anti-inflammatory, which foods are neutral and which can cause inflammation.
The book then goes on to give lots of details about the top 50 anti-inflammatory foods. Some of these I knew about already, but there were other more obscure ones like wheat grass. It was good to see dark chocolate on the list! For each of the 50 foods, there was bite sized information about how to choose the food, what to do with it in the kitchen, nutrition facts, why it needs to be included in your diet and how to eat more of it. I learnt some interesting things, for example, I didn't realise that mushroom powder existed, and that I could add it to other dishes. I'll certainly be trying to add these foods to my diet as much as possible, and I'll be looking up the suggestions of how to do that, especially the foods that I don't eat at the moment.
There were about 8 recipes at the end, and I'll be trying a couple of them. However, the suggestions on each food page give you lots of other ideas too.
This is a great book for anybody wanting to learn about inflammation in the body. Lizzie does a great job explaining what inflammation is, how it affects our body, and what to do to help combat it.
As somebody who is well educated on the subject of inflammation and clean eating, I knew most of the information given in the book but still valued it for the recipes and in-depth information about the various foods. I’m a certified personal trainer & nutrition coach and will definitely be recommending this book to my clients who fight inflammatory conditions.
I like how the book explains how to choose the foods at the store as well as how to incorporate them into your diet. This will be very helpful for readers who are new to healthier eating and selecting ripe, Whole Foods at the grocery store.
The photos in the book are gorgeous also!
Streit does an amazing job of breaking down anti-inflammatory foods, the research behind them, and how to incorporate them into your diet.
The biggest thing that I appreciate with this book is that the majority, if not all, of the foods are available easily in your local grocery store. I live in an area where specialty food are difficult, if not impossible, to come by.
There are only a handful of delicious recipes, so this book is really geared more towards education and helping the reader make thoughtful food choices and how to best prepare that food.
A list of anti-inflammatory foods and some helpful hints of nutrition and how to add more to your diet. A must have for people suffering from a list of ailments from diabetes to cardiovascular disease.
What did I like? It’s a clean colorful look with a wealth of information on types of anti-inflammatory foods and how to get the most out of your servings. I really enjoyed the how to add more to your diet, and thought the book offered a wide variety of different foods.
Would I recommend or buy? I’d definitely love a copy and I would recommend to people looking to take better care of there bodies by monitoring what is put in it. Four stars!
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review!
I’ve been looking for this exact book for years to no avail! I can’t wait for it to hit the shelves so I can pick it up - it will be my go to reference book for information around the foods that make up a healthy anti-inflammatory diet. Other anti-inflammatory cookbooks include recipes but often with ingredients that are either hard to find or are expensive to procure - and most also don’t educate you on what it is about that ingredient that is so beneficial.
The bulk of this book provides insight on specific ingredients that a healthy diet requires that I’ve never been able to find delivered as clearly or concisely. This book identifies why it’s considered an anti-inflammatory ingredient, ideas on how to best use it (and how it would be best absorbed by your body), information on which diets would benefit from it other than just anti-inflammatory diets (ie. keto, low carb, diabetic, fodmap, vegan, vegetarian, Mediterranean, etc.) and lots of colourful pictures! This book also has eight simple but delicious recipes at the end of the book that I can’t wait to try as well! The recipes include page numbers to reference specific ingredients discussed earlier in the book. It’s so well organized!! Overall, the perfect reference for anyone trying to prepare food that will have beneficial anti-inflammatory effects on your health no matter which diet you’re trying to follow!
Loved this book! As an athlete and unfortunately an aging one, anti-inflammatory foods are a major interest of mine. As a vegetarian, I love any recipe or guide book that identifies whole foods and recipes that embrace vegetables. This book does that and so much more!
The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods is a guidebook to 50 of the most popular anti-inflammatory foods.
It's an extensive guide which will help any beginner begin to learn more about anti-inflammatory foods and how to best plan meals. The book includes lots of information on the "why" anti-inflammatory foods as well as the how which all beginners need. Even better, there is information on how different medications will react with the foods and the nutritional values based on preparation. There are tons of recipes that are vegan and/or gluten free as well.
Lizzie Streit, is the author and a nutritionist Healthline.com writer. She has drawn on her experience to create this easily used guide ( Also check out Lizzie's website Itsavegworldafterall.com).
I found this book so helpful and plan to check out other books in the series including:
The Celery Juice Book, The CBD Handbook, The Complete Guide to Self-Care, The Plant-Based Cookbook,

This book is a helpful guide informing the reader about the benefits of an anti inflammatory diet and gives a thorough list of foods to combat inflammation. Each food listed includes good information about varieties of that food, how it interacts with medication and medical situations, explains how it’s beneficial, how to best prepare or serve that food as well as nutritional values. At the end of the book are a handful of recipes using these foods. I would have enjoyed more ideas and recipes but found this book to be an easy to read, comprehensive look at how to fight inflammation with the right foods.
Thank you Netgalley, Quarto Publishing Group-Chartwell Books and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Very informative book! I will be reading this book over and over.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
Excellent read and very informative.
The Complete Guide To Anti-Inflamatory Foods, will educate and aide you to make good choices for you, your body and your health.
Seems to be a great book so far. I need to download it to my big iPad because it’s really not easy to follow in the format that it dowloaded on my app. Can’t wait to finish and learn more about inflammation and foods. .
I really enjoyed this book! It's a well written guide with a ton of information. The only thing I wished was that it had a few more recipes. But still, a really great educational book.
The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods by Lizzie Streit is a great reference book for all kinds of foods. The book is colour coded and well laid out making it easy to follow and read.
This is an awesome book with a wealth of information within its pages. It’s a great reference book. Thank you to the author.
The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods: To Boost Your Health and Immune System is an excellent reference book for everyone. The information is clear and helpful colour charts are used to help you see at glance which foods are most useful and which can cause inflammation. The book details 50 0f the best anti-inflammatory foods, providing nutritional information and how to use and store it. It is a great book for anyone with an interest in diet and health and will definitely get you thinking about what you eat, as well as avoiding inflammation.
I found that it inspired me to think about a range of beautiful, nourishing fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables.
The complete guide to anti-inflammatory foods does what it says on the tin - it provides a catalogue of beautifully photographed foods purported to have anti-inflammatory properties. Personally I have little understanding of the evidence base for anti-inflammatory nutrition, and I am always a little sceptical of anything that looks on the surface like it might be in the business of selling me 'clean eating'. Fortunately Lizzie Streit simply advocates for adding more 'anti-inflammatory' foods to your existing diet and this is something I can absolutely get on board with. There is a wonderful sense of wellbeing that comes from consuming more plants and a range of plants. For this reason I found The Complete Guide to be a lovely resource to inspire me in my cooking as self-care.
I find it fascinating what food does to our body, especially as we age. The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods is a perfect book to help guide us in our better health journey. Thank you!
I have been on a lookout for diets and nutrition which can help me with my Sinus inflammation and nasal polyps. I have recently realized , through trials and rejections , is that I am highly sensitive to foods which cause inflammations , especially dairy, gluten , added colors and flavors.
This book is a very good introduction to anti-inflammatory foods. I had researched a little about the topic before I got to this book, and I think the information in the book , although very relevant ,is not novel or groundbreaking. What is more interesting is that for each of the 50 foods under discussion, the author covers the basics of what it is, how it fits into your diet, and examples of how to eat it. It discussed if the food can have possible other reactions in the body so a suggestion to consult physician is provided , whenever needed. All this information put as a guide for foods is really helpful. The most fascinating part of the book for me were the amazing and superb photography, absolutely stunning. The only thing which did not work for me , is that some of these foods are not even available around me. Also , some amount of dairy and gluten were ok as per the recipes but in my particular case , these have been unacceptable. Both the points have nothing against the book but it is about what I needed from the book, for my particular situation.
The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods by Lizzie Streit is great informative guide about the healing or hurting properties of food. The layout is well done, the colors are vibrant, and the pictures are enticing. There are helpful tips and hints, and nutritional information for each item. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand how our bodies react to all types of whole food.
***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****
This book has a lot of information that is very helpful I like the way it breaks it down with pictures and graphs to reference it later as well. The book also breaks down each vegetable with information and cooking suggestions. However, i would have loved to have seen more recipes ideas in this book as well.
A much needed read in today's world of fast meals, stress, and comfort eating. A comprehensive look at how to beat systemic inflammation in the body through the foods we eat.
Thank you to the Quarto Publishing Group – Chartwell Books and NetGalley for the advanced electronic copy of this great book. This book is a wonderful and very useful guide that clearly explains anti-inflammatory diet and foods. I liked the red yellow and green chart that showcased the difference between the anti-inflammatory, neutral, and inflammation causing foods. The book provides detailed information on 50 foods that are anti-inflammatory and how they can be incorporated into the diet. The last section is a collection of anti-inflammatory recipes to try. I’ve been using many of the foods mentioned in this book and am looking forward to trying the recipes.
Handy guide to anti-inflammatory foods. I suffer with several inflammatory chronic pain issues and this has given me alot of information about what foods can help
A well written and photographed book with plenty of information on which food helps inflammation. Easy to follow recipe's.
I received this book from the publishers via Netgalley for a review.
I loved this book, it gave me helpful tips that I did not even know about and some good recipe ideas that I look forward to trying out. I would suggest anyone that enjoys learning about food to pick up this book and learn somethings that maybe helpful to add to their diet for a healthier lifestyle
I love how this book is a guide to wellness utilizing anti inflammatory foods. It breaks down which foods are good, why they are, and some ideas for incorporating them into your diet. It is a great book to start with for anyone starting their journey into anti inflammatory eating.
The beauty of this book lies in its presentation, photography and food explanations. It was nice to have some easily attemptable recipes too. Nicely done. My review is based on a digital copy from NetGalley.
Surprise surprise another person with a new years goal of eating healthier! But as someone who struggles the last year with mental health and fatigue I am finding this book a useful guide to eating better for my body. I love that this book is about healthy and nutrition vs dieting.
4/5 Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a good reference detailing which classes of foods are anti-inflammatory, which are neutral, and those that are inflammation promoting. It then goes on to list 50 anti-inflammatory foods, explains their properties; and how they contribute to your health and well-being without being overly long or verbose. Information is given clearly and concisely. Each food has a section on why it is anti-inflammatory, how to choose items from the group, the best ways to cook/serve them, and hints on how to eat more. There are also tips for eating out and pitfalls to avoid.
It is nice that the author discusses how each of these anti-inflammatory foods fit into different diets such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Ketogenic, and low GI or Diabetic diets.
The idea that lectins in the nightshade family of plants cause inflammation is debunked. The author believes that these are anti-inflammatory foods, especially when cooked.
There are a few actual recipes at the end, but there are lots of recipe hints throughout the book.
My only criticism is the order of the anti-inflammatory foods. It isn’t stated why they are presented in that particular order. They are grouped by fruits, vegetables, etc; but aren’t alphabetical within those groups. Is it most anti-inflammatory to least? It isn’t stated.
With fifty foods to choose from, everyone is sure to find something they like in the Complete Guide to Anti-inflammatory Foods.
The book begins with an explanation of what inflammation is and what horrors it may do to your body. It also includes a chart of inflammatory foods to avoid. Then each of the fifty anti-inflammatory foods are profiled on a single page with a colorful full-page photograph accompanying it. Every food page contains nutritional information. There are also tips on how to work the food into your diet.
Overall, reading the Complete Guide to Anti-inflammatory Foods is a great start to modifying your diet to feel better. 4 stars!
Thanks to Chartwell Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
The Complete Guide to Anti-Inflammatory Foods by Lizzie Streit This book is full of easy to read and understand information about inflammation which is of interest as a sufferer of RA. A wonderful overview of the food and how it combats the inflammation in your body. The pictures accompanying the pages are works of art in themselves. The information is presented in a concise and covers many aspects of the foods as they relate to helping fight inflammation. The ideas and suggestions in this book are most interesting and would be easy to incorporate into daily diets. While the PDF file is clear and easy enough to read and page through, I believe this book that would best to have as a hardcover. Look for the book in June 2022 (Hint to hubby... as my birthday is in June, would love a copy) Highly recommended
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
