A suspenseful read that keeps you turning the pages. Good how it goes between past and present and all comes together at the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

Once again Sarah Alderson proves that she is truly one of the greats! This book is easily my favorite I’ve read so far this year. The level of detail is astounding & provides such a clear picture of the story.

I enjoyed the perspective of the present and also going back to the past. It was the perfect build up to the climax and the resolution. You slowly get the true picture of the monster that Ryan was. I really enjoyed a lot of the characters in this book. Gwen, Jake, Isabel, and even Rose (despite her initial naive tendencies) were all great.

So far, I’ve read 3 of Sarah’s books. Each one, twisty, atmospheric, and unputdownable. I cannot wait to see what else Sarah writes. I will be first in line to read! 10/10 recommend!

I absolutely loved reading The Cabin In The Woods.

Rose Reid is isolated in the middle of the woods in a rundown cabin, paranoia sets in frequently, she doesn't want to be discovered.

The narrative switches between past and present so as the story goes on we discover the events that lead to Rose hiding out, learn of her childhood and how she came to meet her husband.

The book was heartbreaking at times, full of suspense and left me not wanting to put it down!

Thank you to Netgallery and Avon Books for allowing me to review an arc copy.

The Cabin In The Woods - Sarah Alderson

I loved Sarah Alderson's most recent book The Stalker so couldn’t wait to read this.

A lone woman holed up in a remote cabin in the woods, cut off from the outside world, she doesn't want to be seen, doesn't want to be recognised. Is she in hiding? Is she on the run?

Told using a Past and Present narrative, the Present shows her struggle to stay undetected, the Past explains who she is, why she's in hiding and who she is trying to escape from.

From the mysterious opening the tension builds and builds, a steady drip, drip, drip water torture as details are revealed. The pacing and flow are perfect, all the reveals and elements combine to create a nerve shredding thriller.

Past and Present are wonderfully balanced, both had me enthralled as they progress and come together. The plotting is intricately layered and the tension grabs you by the throat.

Absolutely compelling and compulsive reading! I felt like I was being psychologically tortured in the best possible way.

Even better than The Stalker, I can't recommend this book highly enough. The best psychological thriller I've read this year and sure to be a contender for my book of the year.

She does it again with a new brilliant novel!
I loved Sarah Alderson's novel The Weekend Away and just watched the Netflix film adaptation which was amazing as well.
So to say I was excited for a new novel by her is an understatement.

The Cabin in the Woods is a spellbinding story.
Sarah creates characters unlike anything I've seen before. They are so relatable, realistic, raw, emotional and and just phenomenal.
I heard myself say "Holy crap! Like this is good"!
I was all over the place!
An absolutely riveting, exciting, heart throbbing read!
This book kept me guessing till the very last page! I loved the twist and turns, writing... Honestly everything about this book was wild.
I just love this author!

This book was sent to me by. Netgalley electronically for review…murder…horrors…abuse…family and friends…running away…discovery…fear…hiding…trusting or not…children…marriage…breakups…these themes run throughout this novel, written by an author who has woven an ingenious can’t put down story. It is as if this is true crime…most of the characters just are not likable…some are but still not at all what they should be…they are far from quirky and fun…serious and foreboding…the protagonist is trying to survive… the horrors she endured are endless…it seems when the reader thinks things will be fine, they turn… one part (of many)that bothered me was the story of the child…I can’t put my finger on it, but there seemed to be something about that aspect of the book that did not ring true…I can’t write about it as it would be a spoiler…that being said, this author is one I will continue to read…a thriller…

Jaw dropping.
It's like Ruth Ware's In a dark dark wood. It's really creepy.
In a cabin in a wood,
A woman by the window stood.
Glancing out, she thought she heard
Footsteps, whistling, something stirred. Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what’s done in the dark will come to light.
She must run fast to escape her lie

I think everyone should read it. I enjoyed it very very much.

This book captured my attention right from the first page and kept me guessing until the last few unbelievable twists. The storyline was very fast-paced and increased in tension as I frantically turned the pages - itching to discover what happened next. I enjoyed the past-present narrative. The "past" chapters were engrossing, without giving too much background information/unnecessary detail, while the "present" chapters were thrilling and suspenseful. I would recommend this book to all thriller lovers!

Rose is missing, and there is a huge reward offered for information on her whereabouts.

Rose had a tragic childhood, along with her younger sister, Daisy. They live in a trailer with their drug addicted father. Rose spins stories to Daisy about their deceased mother, how perfect she was, and how much fun they had with her, all the stories are imaginary, their mother was a drug addict who died of an overdose.
After their father dies of an overdose, the children are sent to a grandfather who never knew of their existence, and teaches the girls the art of surviving in the wild.

Years later, Rose is working as a waitress while doing a creative writing course, and meets an ambitious young lawyer, and falls head over heels in love with him. His mother tries to pay Rose off in order to stop the relationship going any further, to no avail, within months they are married.

The marriage, however, is not an easy one, after Rose has a child and is diagnosed with Postpartum Psychosis. Then she finds out what her husband actually is........

Wow!! This book kept me riveted from beginning to end. I sat up all night in order to read it. "Just one more chapter".....

I liked the flow of the novel, which jumps from Past to Present, and I liked the main character very much. Rose, to me, was a strong, but naive woman, who gained wisdom.

I definitely want to read more from this author, she tells the story perfectly, keeping the reader engrossed.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.

Overall Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books UK Publishing for the opportunity to read this arc.

The Cabin in the Woods follows a young woman named Rose, who has disappeared from her New York socialite life in mysterious circumstances. Hiding out in upstate woodland, she begins to worry she is not as off-grid as she thought when it becomes clear she is being watched.

The suspense building is fantastic. You feel like your walking this journey with Rose, feel her sacrifes, pain and determination to stay alive. Most surprising was the turn this thriller took, it gives you so much more than you expected. The character building is superb with the dual timelines and really added to building this book from start to finish.

This was truelly a really great read. Highly recommended!

Another fantastic highly addictive thriller from Sarah Alderson.

This was a really gripping and easy to read thriller which I managed to read all in one day.

I really enjoyed the plot of this thriller. It starts off as a pretty standard thriller but sound there were plenty of twists and turns I didn't see coming.

I loved the dark, atmospheric nature of the cabin in the woods. The descriptions were particularly strong in this book.

I also really enjoyed the structure. The back and forth between the present and past made for a very interesting story to follow.

The writing style was easy and engaging to read all the way through.

Overall, I think this was a fantastic thriller and one which I could easily see being turned into a neflix film. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book! It was a great psychological thriller. Told in the past and the present, you don’t really know what is going to happen but when you do, you know it’ll be a good story! I thought the beginning was a little slow but 55% of the way in, it picked up and I couldn’t put it down! I loved Rose’s story and how it was written. You could feel the trauma, pain and excitement in her dialogue. Great read!

Atmospheric, Tense, Menacing…
Rose is alone. In a secluded cabin in the wilderness. She thinks that she might be being watched. Is she? If so, why? Atmospheric and tense from the off with an underlying sense of menace this is a veritable thrill ride. Effectively told in a dual timeline narrative with a credible voice. As the tale unfolds the reader learns the reasons for Rose to be so afraid. Twisting and turning suspense which maintains a mounting tension until the final denouement.

I read this quickly, gripped by the story and desperate to know how it would all work out. Loved the present day setting, all snowy and atmospheric, I felt as if I was there with Rose, and the unfolding backstory was horrifyingly realistic. I was desperate for Ryan to get his comeuppance! Well-written and totally absorbing, I could easily see this playing out as a TV series. Highly recommended.

Sarah Alderson's new psychological thriller has been receiving 5 solid stars on Netgalley and Goodreads, and can I say it totally deserves it!! By far one of the best books I've read this year. I don't want to say too much as risk of spoilers, but I will say I read it over two nights, literally couldn't put it down. Told from multiple points of view, a woman on the run and a New York socialite with an unusual marriage. This book has everything. Highly recommended 5 stars from me xx

YES! 👏 I tore through this book, what a page turner! Any book that has me scream YES out loud is sure to be a 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ book for me!

I went into "The Cabin in the Woods" blind, not having read the synopsis and had no idea what was going on, and it really worked. There is a girl injured and hiding in a remote cabin by herself but WHY is she there? All is slowly revealed through past and present chapters. What a story! The tension builds throughout and I just had to find out the whole story as quickly as possible. Twisty and clever! This is one of those books I thought about when I wasn't reading it and couldn't wait to get back to it.

Alderson is a new author to watch our for. This book was fast paced, suspenseful and unpredictable. I highly recommend to all thriller lovers!

Thank you so much Avon Books UK for approving me! Thank you NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

What a riveting psychological thriller. I was completely engrossed in the story, which was cleverly done, jumping back and forth between now and then seamlessly. I loved how the author didn’t go into too much detail, because it increased the suspense.

Synopsis:

Cabin in the Woods follows a young woman named Rose, who has disappeared from her New York socialite life in mysterious circumstances. Hiding out in upstate woodland, she begins to worry she is not as off-grid as she thought when it becomes clear she is being watched

This book was engaging, interesting and original. There were some minor inconsistencies, for example when Rose talked about escaping to another place which didn’t make sense when more of the story was revealed. Other than that, I loved everything about the book. The writing style appealed to me, and Alderson’s writing was flawless. I had to read on whenever I could and felt very happy with the outcome of the book. A major plus was that at the end things that happened earlier in the book, made even more sense.

This is all I knew when I started reading this book but oh boy was I in for a good story. Before I properly start the review, I want to thank Netgalley and Avon Books for letting me read this ARC. Now, let's start.

You start this book knowing nothing about the main character, what happend, what she is running for. But believe me it all becomes perfectly clear in due time. And then I hope you'll like it just as much as I do, because I rated it 5 stars. And here is why:

As I said at the beginning you know absolutely nothing. You honestly don't even know whether you can trust the main character or not. Everything is narrated by her, and you can't be certain whether she is telling the truth or you are caught up in her reality. It made me want to read more very quickly. I just wanted to find out who I could trust in this story. During this review I will try to keep away from the details in order to keep it spoiler free. Normally I like to talk more about the details but I don't want to give the plot away.

The book often switches between the past and present, and through these changes you'll find out more and moreabout what is happening and how the main character got into this situation. I started to have suspicions during the book, but I was never sure whether they were true or whether I wanted them to be true, and then in the last 100 pages it just all connected and it made so much sense.

Tense is a good way to describe this book. There is continious tension and the main character is contioniosly on her guard. This made me feel very tense as well, but in a good way! I got absorbed into the story and wanted to know more.
They way the story was build up and the backstory was just perfect, it fitted perfectly within the story. I have genuinly nothing bad to say about it.

Amazing. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The plot was nice, the characters were fleshed out but it was the pacing that was the real winner here. I want to put my hands on everything Sarah has written and read it all in a day. She's very good.

Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy. It doesn't influence my opinion in any way.

I received another book to review by @netgalley and it was a real page turner! It's The Cabin in the Woods by @sarahaldersonauthor . It will come out on the 7th of July.

I've read this book in just an evening and morning. It is written in such a way that you can't stop and put it aside - you just need to continue because you want to find out what will happen and what has happened.

You follow Rose who had a terrible childhood, which is really difficult to read about! Rose ends up working in New York when she meets Ryan. They marry rather quickly and then it all happens.

The author manages to create excitement and unease by alternating between flashbacks and the present day. Some shocking events come to light as well. This all makes it an absolutely brilliant book which I would recommend wholeheartedly.

Wow! I couldn’t put this one down, reading it every chance it got. Suspenseful right from the first page, the story had me hooked and having to know what happened next. The settling alone was spine tingling!! Both past and present story lines are well told and weave together perfectly in the end. What an accomplished, atmospheric and suspenseful thriller! Loved it and will definitely be keeping an eye out for this author.

Sarah Alderson has become one of my favourite authors and this was another brilliant novel.

A woman, in a cabin in the woods, hiding, waiting, ready to run.

We are told very little from the synopsis and deliberately so. As the story goes along we see the narrative in past and present and see how this woman came to be here, waiting. Aldersons writing is suspenseful, intriguing and clever. The story led me on an unexpected journey and while I could anticipate some small elements, I could never have guessed where it would end up. Such an enjoyable novel.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this gifted review copy.

The book is the best book that I have read in a while. Rose is on the run and hiding from the police. She hides out in a cabin in the woods far from home where nobody knows her. She thought she had the perfect marriage, loyal loving husband, rich and good looking she felt so lucky he had chosen her. That is until one night when something so horrric happens that turns her whole world upside down and opens her eyes to what her husband is really like.
You will be hooked from start to finish with this book. There are so many twists and turns to keep you wanting more.

The Cabin in the Woods is the first of Sarah Alderson's book's I've read, and it was everything I love in a murder mystery. There was only one person's point of view in this book, but it spanned across both her past an present, with the past working its way up to the present, so reader's are filled in on her past as the book comes to its climax. It wasn't 100% what I thought it would be when I went into it, but it was great nonetheless!

This book is definitely one of the best that I have read this year, and satisfies me enough throughout, and I was really happy with the outcome, and for Rose in the end.

(Will update with blog and social posts when live)

A fast paced, action packed, ever changing thriller. Kept me reading and guessing through the night.
Rose and Ryan meet and marry within six months despite the extreme difference in their upbringings and financial status. But their perfect marriage may be a little too perfect, and Ryan may not be the wonderful husband he portrays. When a stranger approaches Rose one night at a party and tells her who her husband really is, Rose's life begins to spiral out of control. Getting justice may just prove to be too much!
Characters were great - even Ryan the villain was perfectly portrayed. The plot had a lot of ups and downs, some small twists, and a good ending. If you like domestic thrillers, this is definitely a good one to read.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A great thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and had me constantly worrying about the MC's well-being.

What I liked:
- The story itself. It's interesting, it's tragic, and the ending is cathartic.
- The pacing is good. There is very little filler (in my opinion) and it's all interesting (even the more, simple parts like what she does in her everyday life)
- The characters. The villain is despicable (especially because he is so similar to a lot of modern-day politicians). The main character is so sympathetic and I rarely felt annoyed by any of her actions, even if they were clearly the wrong ones.
- The ending. I really enjoyed it. My only complaint (which is barely one) is that the big reveal at the end relied on keeping readers in the dark but that wasn't a huge deal. It was satisfying to see everything wrap up well AND they were all due to the MC's actions, not coincidences.

What I didn't like:
- There isn't much. Maybe the pacing in the epilogue.
- The cabin didn't really matter in the long run (so naming the books after it felt a little odd). Again, not a huge deal. Just a thought.

Overall, a really enjoyable read. Great for reading on vacation in a cabin. It's partly a thriller and partly just a woman recalling her life and all the tragedies related to it. Highly recommend.

I am a huge fan of Sarah Alderson and was extremely excited to read this. The cover drew me in as did the synopsis, both pointing to a read that would be right up my street and had the hallmarks of all my favourite thrillers.
I love Sarah’s writing style and find her plot lines thrilling and complex without the confusion created by some
Authors who attempt such a multilayered plot. Sarah handles an intense, intricate plot and intelligent storyline adeptly and saves a story that hooks you in and keeps you turning those pages enthusiastically. This book kept me excited and moreover guessing and hypothesising right until it’s breathtaking reveals. Utterly brilliant storytelling and a 5 star thriller that I can’t wait to recommend to everyone. Sarah is a go to author for me and I await all her new releases with high anticipation… I hope she keeps them coming she is fast becoming one of my all time faves

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the copy of The Cabin in the Woods. The description of this book gives nothing away and that turns out it was better that I had no idea what to expect. The book was great! I loved Rose and learning about her story. Rose was resilient and resourceful.
The suspense just kept building as I worried about Rose in the present and found out more about what happened in the past.. The story was complicated but written so well it never got confusing. There was a lot going on, and the ending tied up loose ends I didn't even realize were loose! If you want a quick, suspenseful read, this is the book for you. 4.5 stars rounded up to five stars.

I devoured this entire book in one sitting… it was that good!!!

The Cabin In The Woods is structured by jumping chapter to chapter from past and present. This was done so well that I couldn’t put it down until I knew what happened in both the past and present situations.

Carefully well thought out, wonderful ending. I especially love how the first 15 chapters of the book give so little but also give just the right amount of information to keep the reader guessing but not bored in anyway.

Twists and turns delight throughout the entire book.

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!

Loved it, devoured it, A FIVE star read from beginning to end.
Rose & Daisy have an awful start to life with their abusive drug addict father. Rose finally meets the man of her dreams who whisks her into the heart of New York Society. She finally has the perfect ending or does she?
Thank you to Netgalley & Sarah Alderson for the advanced copy of this book.

This is a quick psychological thriller. Rose Reid is a NY socialite that has "disappeared" and is now hiding out in a cabin in the woods. She is hurt, scared and not sure if she will survive as her past threatens to creep in. The story is told from Rose's POV in the Present and Past. She had a terrible childhood with drug addicted parents, forced to practically take care of herself and her little sister Daisy. The author's writing style is great and easy to read. There are points where you can tell it was not written by an American author, but if you bypass those inconsistencies, it is a great read.

i was provided an arc of this book via netgalley! thank you to the publisher, the author and netgalley. all thoughts are my own.

so this was really good. i keep going between four and four and a half stars, but just know that i really liked it. tws for this one include discussion and representation of addiction and mental health issues. i clarify this part first, obviously, just in case someone doesn't want to read those topics, but also to clarify i deal with none of those things first hand, so i can't speak in terms of how the representation was done. i think it was done well, but again, my opinion doesn't count for this part.

as far as the rest goes... i enjoyed this so much. i was a bit unsure during the first half, but once we reached the second half and everything fell into place, it was amazing. and it's one of those things that i really liked looking back after we had passed the second half mark to see how everything fit now with what we know. not only that but i was still in the edge of my seat during the whole book and i couldn't put it down once i started reading. i read most of it yesterday and then woke up very early today to finish it, so... do with that information what you want. also, i really liked the protagonist personally, i really liked reading her.

this one even had some really good twists that i wasn't expecting (but also keep in mind that i go out of my way not to try and guess what will happen in books. it puts me in a bad mood, so i try very hard to not try to solve things) also there were some things that in the first half i had like criticism and the author completely overturned those in the second half so i liked that a lot, tbh, and the jumps between timelines were really well done.

i guess the only reason as to why i'm not giving it a five stars is because i tend to leave that rating for my favorite books, that's it. overall, i really really liked this, a lot more than i was expecting i would.

A fantastic read I demolished in a few hours! Lots of suspense as the plot plays out. The story is deftly handled and the characters are really well-drawn. I highly recommend this novel.

It's been quite awhile since I read a book straight through. In fact, it's been quite awhile since I even WANTED to! So, despite some language and grammatical errors, I found this one very refreshing. There were plenty of surprises (not, necessarily twists, but just about as good) to keep my interest, and I didn't want to quit till I was done. As I read, I could not think of a possible way that this story could end well, but, somewhat to my amazement, that was accomplished! It's an emotional read and made me appreciate my warm bed (where I lay to read most of it) all the more, as I kept being reminded of the heroine's freezing, unheated cabin in the woods. I am eager to see what else Sarah Alderson has written.

Reviewed on GoodReads, will post on other sites upon release.

This is a pretty typical thriller with a lot of the usual tropes, but I enjoyed it.

At first I thought we weren't getting enough details on the relationship between Ryan and Rose, but as the story progressed I saw that it wasn't important to the story. I liked the way the plot went back and forth to the past and the present. Sometimes that style can be confusing, but it was well executed in this case.

The ending was satisfying, and the story itself kept me interesting and turning the pages. Finished it all in a few hours. 3.5 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sarah Anderson delivered a page turner!

I am only sorry I read a review, prior to ready the novel, which gave away too much information and therefore partially spoilt my reading experience. So no storyline nor character information will slip into my review!

However if you enjoy a psychological crime thriller then this is definitely worth reading. The compact chapters, varying timeline and good writing style make this an effortless read.

Rose grew up in less than ideal conditions. Her life conditions changed considerably and she is living the high life, or so it seems. One day she decides to disappear to a cabin in the woods in upstate and is hopeful that she cannot be found there. Why is she on the run? Did someone follow her?

Sarah Alderson’s latest book is phenomenal! Told in multiple time lines it takes you on a very twisty journey through Rose’s life story. This kept me guessing throughout the story and my interest was piqued for the entire book. No slow burn here, it was perfectly paced and I loved it! All the stars for THE CABIN IN THE WOODS!

I've finished reading The Cabin In The Woods by @sarahaldersonauthor and I rate it 5 brilliant stars 🌟

In a cabin in the woods
A woman by the window stood watching, she’s hiding from something from somebody that's destroyed her life..

Omg what a fantastically brilliant book this is!

Oh I couldn't put this down, it had me hooked by the throat and wouldn't let go, the story Is extremely well written and plotted, it's gritty and edgy with plenty of twists and turns, I really liked the character of Rose i instantly took her to my heart i was on her side the whole time, the setting in the woods gave it that dark isolated creepy feel, this book was nonstop drama I didn't want to put it down as I wanted to know what happen next.

After loving The Stalker, I just had to read this. The past and present are wonderfully balanced. The plotting is layered very well and the tension grabs you by the testicles.

I really enjoyed this domestic thriller. The characters were amazing and kept me invested in the entire story. Great timeline that was delivered with a bang. Very well done. Highly recommend

Sometimes when you start a book right from the start you just know it’s going to be a good one well this certainly was one of those and I loved it. Told from two timelines past and present it was a story full of twists which were clever and unexpected and the pages flew by I just couldn’t put it down. The main character Rose was so well written and as the suspense mounted she really came into her own and I liked her even more.
The story in someways is a sad one in parts and how Rose dealt with things came over well and I found myself really rooting for her.
So a fast paced read that I devoured in a day I really did enjoy it so much and if you like a thriller that you can set completely immersed in then this is the book for you.
My thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK, and Sarah Alderson for an advanced copy of The Cabin in the Woods in exchange for my honest review.

The Stalker was one of my favorite books of 2021 and when I saw Alderson had another book publishing this year I could not wait to get my hands on it.

This book is thrilling, fast-paced, and a verified unputdownable. Fair warning: there's some pretty dark content. It did take me a little while to get fully invested in, but once I was in I was *all in.*

I for sure did not predict the way this one would go, and I always appreciate that in a thriller. I also enjoyed the past and present narrative and how all the pieces of the puzzle eventually came together.

The Cabin in the Woods will be on bookshelves in the UK July 7, and in the US October 18!

Rating 4.5

Being a huge fan of Sarah Alderson’s work since her YA novels I always look forward to reading her work, and can safely say that once again I have not been disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of this thriller and especially the seamless transitions from past tense to present. I felt that this really added to the suspense and kept me hooked and wanting to read on to uncover the truth behind the mystery. I also liked that the synopsis did not give away any of the story and so I had no expectations as to what Rose had been through and what to expect from each character. As someone who enjoys a ‘happy ending’ I liked the way that this book wrapped everything up at the end but still didn’t feel far fetched.

Once again Sarah Alderson writes a gripping novel with strong female characters whilst also tackling some thought provoking topics. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of thrillers, mysteries or even just a fast-paced read. This book is the perfect holiday read!

Fast paced, emotional, gripping, exciting, great multi-layered characters (the good, the bad, and the really ugly), and a perfect ending!

Rose is on the run, hiding out in an abandoned cabin in upstate New York. In the middle of winter - no electricity, no heat, no hot water. Brrrrrrrr. She’s exhausted, injured, in pain, and frightened for her life. Initially, we have no idea why she is there, or who she is running from…

Sarah Alderson weaves a dual timeline masterfully. Set in the present, recent past, and distant past, the plot is emotionally charged with tense pacing, as the timelines converge for an explosive finale.

I was rooting for Rose, our rags to riches to desperate fugitive, every step of the way. Her character is so artfully developed - in all the beautiful and heartbreaking ways.

I absolutely loved The Cabin in the Woods, and intend to catch up on all of Sarah Alderson's earlier work!

Highly recommended!

Thank you NetGalley, Sarah Alderson, and Avon Books, UK for the opportunity to read an ARC of this fantastic thriller in exchange for my honest and wholly independent opinion.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This book kept me on the edge of my seat all the way until the very end. I couldn't put it down! Lots of cliff hangers and twists and turns throughout the entire storyline. Excellent read. I would highly recommend this book to any psychological thriller lover. I will be picking up another one of Sarah Alderson's masterpieces for sure! 5 Stars!!!

I read Sarah Alderson’s first novel, The Weekend Away, and fell in love with her writing. I was grateful to be picked for reviewing this arc!

Rose is on the run, but only she knows why. Flashing between past and present, from Rose’s childhood in a trailer park with a meth-addict father and baby sister Daisy, to her rise to a socialite of New York, and to her escape to a cabin in the woods, Alderson tells a compelling story. I enjoyed Rose’s character and thought this was a great read, though I had to suspend my disbelief a few times.

Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley for this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This was my first Sarah Alderson thriller, and I really enjoyed it! There were twists I didn't see coming, and I really enjoyed the characters and character development. Some of the story line was a little unbelievable, and the book description definitely didn't fully capture the book, but I still really enjoyed it! I'll be trying other books by her! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

At this point, we should all be sick of the sadistic husband disguised as good guy trope, right? I thought I was until I picked up this twisty, terrifying novel. For fans of the women-centric thriller genre, this one will be a winner. At the risk of giving anything away, I don't want to say much other than to not make plans once you pick up this novel. You will read it in a matter of hours.

I read The Stalker last year and loved it and this one didn't disappoint either.
Rose and her sister Daisy live with their druggie dad until he dies. Then they go to live with their maternal grandfather where he teaches Daisy survival life skills.
Rose works as a waitress in a restaurant where she meets Ryan.
Rose's life goes from rags to socialite.
So how does Rose end up as a fugitive living in a log cabin in the woods?
The chapters alternate between past and present.
I found this totally gripping and couldn't put it down as we see how Rose's life spirals.
I loved the alternating chapters as we are left on tenterhooks after each chapter.
The setting was so well written. The cold and having to kayak across the lake in deepest winter, brrrr.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon books for the ARC in return for an honest review.

I discovered Sarah Alderson’s books about 5 months ago and I’ve been devouring all of her books since then. I was so excited to receive an ARC of her newest book, and I can confirm that The Cabin in the Woods is yet another compelling, twisty, character driven book. Whether we are in the remote forest or in downtown NYC, Alderson has a beautiful way of writing the setting as though it is another character in the book, playing a key role in building the tension and atmosphere. The characters were well developed and, as I’ve come to expect from Alderson, the plot twists were plenty. I tried to make this one last, but I just couldn’t stop reading!! Can’t wait for her next book!

LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!!!!! A poor young woman working as a waitress is swept off her feet by the handsome blue eyed man at her table. He treats her like royalty, giving her everything she could ever dream of having. But after the birth of their first child, things start to change and she suspects he is having an affair. It’s only then that she begins to really see the man she married and what lengths he will go to feed his (and his mothers) ego!
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. I will without a doubt be recommending it to friends!

A first-class thriller that holds your attention in a vice grip until the very end.

Rose Reid had a typical rags-to-riches story - the daughter of drug-addled parents from a trailer park in Mussorie to the socialite wife of D.A Ryan Reid and living in an eight-bedroom mansion in Westchester -  her life was nothing short of a fairy tale. And then one day, it all came crumbling down, forcing her to go on the run. A fugitive hiding out in a crumbling cabin in the woods, Rose decides she is done being a victim and has to get back at those who have wronged her, before they find her first.

The plot employs a tried-and-tested trope of 'woman blindsided by treachery and lies, turns avenging angel on her wrong-doers,' but what makes it stand out is its execution, which is just perfect. The prologue - a live news broadcast - that rattles off terms such as 'cadaver dogs,' 'trash bags,' and 'evidence' is enough to spike one's intrigue and from there on it's a free fall into a pit of suspense.

The story is teased out gradually through Rose's flashbacks and present day narratives, but takes off on full steam after 75%. The author's writing style brings the intense climax scenes to life. The denouement, IMO, was rather cheesy, but after everything Rose was put through, cheesy was quite welcome.

Overall, an adrenaline-packed punch. Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Sarah Alderson's intriguing new novel, The Cabin in the Woods, will hook you from the very first page of this gripping and suspenseful domestic thriller. The strong female characters had me cheering for them despite some heartbreaking scenes in the novel.

The Cabin in the Woods is an excellent book I highly recommend. Once I started reading, I could not put down this dramatic work by Sarah Alderson. I finished it in one night! In this emotional novel, the author knocks it out of the ballpark with her heartfelt writing style and plot twists. The Cabin in the Woods puts a powerful spin on mystery! (4.25 ⭐⭐⭐⭐)

A top contender for the best thriller of the year for me. I’m calling it now! I was engrossed in Rose from the first chapter. The alternating timeline was fantastic and I loved the snippets from the past while trying to piece what little we were given of the present. This book is going to get anyone out of a reading slump. Well written, tension that built slowly and a great mix of past and present made this book a total win.

A splendid and intense thriller mystery! Especially if you like things wrapping up with a neat bow by the end of the story. I was gasping out loud at some of the chapter endings! What a ride.

I’m glad I went into it not knowing a thing. I think it’s best that way!

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK, and the author Sarah Alderson for this advanced copy!

Rose grew up in a horrible environment, fleeing her father, and a rough life. Then we find that she is older but also in hiding - but who is she hiding from? The book switches between timelines seamlessly to expose some of Rose's path through life and explain her current circumstances. It includes several twists and turns to keep the intrigue high, and is a very fast read.

Rose has a rags to riches, back to rags story to tell. Growing up, protecting her sister from her addict parents, Rose’s life was a daily struggle, until she met Ryan. Extremely rich and powerful, Ryan sweeps Rose off her feet and into a life she never dreamed possible. So why is Rose now hiding out, unrecognizable and just trying to survive, in a cabin in the woods?

Taking us on a wild ride, in alternating timelines from the present to the past, Rose’s story unfolds with a fantastic amount of twists. I wasn’t super invested in the story at first, but I couldn’t put it down after I reached the halfway mark, there were SO many plot points I just NEEDED to have revealed and I couldn’t stop until I knew everything! The story almost felt like it had two different pacings - the slower, tense story of the present and the fast paced events of the past. It worked really well together and ensured the two timelines didn’t blur together too much.

A brilliant thriller with excellent, three dimensional characters, I’d highly recommend picking this one up!

A super enjoyable thriller. Rose Ried is injured and hiding in the cabin in the woods. Learning the how and the why will lead you down a familiar tale told differently and in a very engaging manner. This novel is thrilling and twisty with great atmosphere. I loved the I could not guess the plot! I recommend it to all who love a domestic thriller, a fairy tale gone bad or a creepy story.

I loved this book from the second I picked it up to the moment it ended. It is literally impossible not to fall in love with the main character, Rose. From being raised by drug-addicted parents and taking care of her little sister to marrying into a wealthy man who gives her everything she could ever want… until it all falls apart.

Rose is smart, tenacious, fierce in every sense of the word. She loves her sister, her husband, her daughter. When her world is turned upside down in the worst possible way, her grit and derminarion to fight through is amazing. As a reader, I was rooting for her every page.

I enjoyed how it went from past to present time. It kept me guessing about what had happened to get her to her current circumstances, while piecing together how she was going to overcome her situation.

Again, loved it. A true page turner with an ultimate protagonist.

Oh my god, I absolutely devoured this book in just under 4 hours. It’s been so long since a thriller has managed to keep my attention throughout its entirety and I’m so grateful to have been approved to read this one a little early!!!! The Cabin in the Woods had everything I needed, a dual timeline, a main character that you can’t help but love and such a believable storyline!!!! Sarah did a fantastic job of describing the cabin and the cold that it truly felt like I was there too!!!! I will definitely be picking up a finished copy and can’t wait for it’s official release!!!!

This was brilliant, it really got me hooked and thinking about it when I wasn't reading!

A little slow to start, but I'm not sure if this is because I had no idea of the plot as I requested based only on the fact that I loved Sarah Alderson's The Stalker.

I enjoyed the style of writing with chapters switching between past and present. Sometimes this can be hard to follow but in The Cabin's case, it flowed beautifully. I was invested in Rose's story and the twists in the plot worked well.

I was unsure whether I was happy with the ending, but actually I think it couldn't have been any other way!

Thoroughly enjoyed and would read more!

Friends like these was one of my favorite books of 2018 so I was thrilled to see this one come out. This was a page turner for sure. Rose is a young New York socialite who has disappeared upstate in the woods. We don’t know much more than that at first, but as the storyline jumps from past to present you become more engrossed trying to piece together the hints about why she is there and who is watching her.

The character building and the way you feel like you are with Rose really draws the story together as it takes some turns you won’t expect. I recommend this book for a day that you have time to sit down and do nothing else.

When I tell you I tore through this one – one of the better thrillers I have read this year, if not in the past few years. Could not wait to see what would happen but I did not want it to be over. Easy five

I loved this book, loved the intruige and suspense. With a setting in a lonely cabin in present day Rose is injured and in hiding, but we have no idea why. The story then works backwards and slowly gives the reader the reasoning behind her fear.
Very well written, keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I enjoyed The Stalker but I think this is my favourite so far

Wow! What a great book!
I loved this story from start to finish. The book was full of suspense, tension and twists, and it was fast paced throughout.
I loved the character of Rose Reid, with her determination and bravery, despite the challenges she faced at the hands of her husband, Ryan.
After a difficult childhood, years of marriage, and the difficult time she had after the birth of their daughter, Rose finally seems to be coping with life. However, things are not as they seem with husband Ryan. A monster lurks inside him, and Rose discovers the horrors of his true self. Just what is he capable of?
The story takes a turn for the worse, and Rose finds herself on the run. She ends up in a small cabin in the woods, hoping that no one will recognise her, and turn her in.
Despite the darkness in this book, it is also a book about friendship, and learning to trust other people.
This is the first book I have read by Sarah Alderson, but it certainly won't be the last!

This book was amazing! I was blindsided so many times during this story, and yelled out scaring my dogs. The ending had me reeling, and I’m so happy everything fell into place. Definitely worth a read!

Life starts out rough for Rose and her sister Daisy, both born in a trailer park to drug addicted parents in a no named town in Missouri. Having little shot at making it in the world, Rose is enamored when she meets a wealthy, charismatic man named Ryan who sweeps her off her feet bringing her from rags to riches. She thought she scored the most eligible bachelor in Manhattan and that all of the surrounding women were envious. But were they? Or was Rose naive to what their side eyes and side conversations were really about? In an effort to hide his crimes, Ryan frames his wife as a mentally ill murderer. Finding friendship and allies in unlikely places, Rose sets out on a journey of revenge, one that will right all her wrongs.

This was my first book by this author, and I thought it was a solid psychological thriller. I loved the present and past timelines that eventually merged right at the climax of the story. The short chapters and no frills no fluff writing style had me devouring this book in a day. I thought the first quarter of the book could have benefited from some additional development and I could have done without the emerging love story at the end but all in all, this was a sold 4 star read for me.

This one races from the start line and doesn't let go until the end
Fast paced
thrilling
dark and deadly in the woods
ooh this gets the heart pumping!

A tense gripping read, easy to read and get through quickly. Lots of great twists, and real emotion. My main gripe was that Rose 'gritted her teeth' on pretty much every page. She must have jaw ache by now. But still a great thriller, quite different in many ways but with the tropes that make thrillers so gripping.

I absolutely have loved every Sarah Alderson book I have read! She never disappoints. The Cabin in the Woods was no exception. We follow Rose, and we learn about her childhood background with her sister, Daisy as well as following her in her current life, where she lives in a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere. It is somewhat of a rags to riches story, after she meets, handsome, rich, aspiring political congressman Ryan. Ryan comes from a very astute family, where Rose is not welcomed with open arms. Following along the timeline, finding out more about Rose's background, why she is in the cabin in the middle of the woods, and who Ryan really is, was a journey that made it hard to put the book down. Alderson's writing style always appeals to me, and just made the characters and setting come to life. I highly recommend this book for any thriller reader!

4.5 STARS

My first by this author, a page flipper that I didn't want to put down!

I went into this one blind, and was hooked after a few pages. The first person POV of Rose was gripping. A fairytale gone wrong, nightmarish. A fast moving pace, very little filler, past and present timeline that eventually collides. Cliffhanger chapters were a plus.

Rose won me over. She was so sympathetic that I forgave her many times. She has to disappear and fast. She was in a shark tank and had few options. She has a rags to riches story that goes back to rags. Where is her Prince Charming? Her enchanted castle is now a freezing, remote cabin in the woods. She is like a deer, being watched, or at least she feels that way.

I absolutely enjoyed it! I felt the tension that Rose had and rooted for her at every step of the way. If you don't like a story where you need to suspend belief (or one that is possible, but unlikely), this may not be for you. It also deals with some serious themes of neglect and domestic violence.

I've already added two of her previous books to the TBR!

Whoa! What a ride. It was very fast-paced. The writing style kept me hooked and I didn't find myself losing any interest. I enjoyed getting to know each of the characters and how real the story felt. The author did a great job painting the setting, so it was easy for me to visualize the scene played out before me. I recommend giving this one a chance!

An ominous tale that unfolds in great tension and suspense answering the number one question: What is this woman hiding from on this cabin in the woods. A quick, fast-paced read with an explosive ending. Wow!

In a cabin in a wood,
A woman by the window stood.

Glancing out, she thought she heard
Footsteps, whistling, something stirred.

Hiding here, she fears the night,
For what’s done in the dark will come to light.

She must run fast to escape her lie
Or she’ll be the next to die.

Ooooooooh, I just simply loved "The Cabin In The Woods" by Sarah Anderson.
The storyline is set in present and the past and doesn't give much away at all in the beginning. Either way, it gave you enough to be gripped by what it is Rose is hiding out in the cabin from.
The storyline isn't too drawn out and I loved the fast pace of this book. I read it in under 24hrs which is quite the achievement when I've been struggling to finish a book this year!.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and fully Recommend it!! 5***** from me.

Okay wow. I didnt expect this book to be so good! I couldn’t put it down.
Going by the description on NetGalley I though this was more of a horror book but it was a thriller / mystery. It takes place in the present, with Rose hiding out in a cabin in Upstate New York, and we are taken back to the past in flashes. We find out what happened to Rose and Ryan and why she ended up hiding out in this cabin.
I honestly didnt know where this story would go but Im so happy with it and with the ending. Finally a book that tied up all loose ends! This is a must read if you like suspenseful thrillers.

This turned out to not be whatbinwas expecting at all! I flew through it in a day and although I expected more of a thriller/ horror type vibe, I still wad incredibly captivated and really enjoyed the story. I wouldn't say it's bringing anything new to the "creepy cabin in the woods" type genre but its still a good and captivating read. The trauma aspect of the book also takes it from being "scary cabin fiction" to something more real world trauma which also adds a lot of depth to the characters and the plot.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an e-copy of The Cabin In The Woods by Sarah Alderson, in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I requested The Cabin In The Woods on a whim, in the mood for an atmospheric thriller. This creepy, slow-burn mystery definitely hit the spot! Winter is closing in and we are thrown into an cabin deep in woods surrounded by an icy lake, hiding with someone consumed with the idea that they're being watched. All the creepy vibes. We quickly find out that this person is desperate, in hiding from police for unknown reasons and surviving by a thread.

We jump 22 years into the past, into the tragic childhood of scrawny sisters Rose and Daisy, practically starving, living in a tiny trailer with their drug addict father. Rose is constantly risking everything to protect her little sister Daisy. After many years of trauma and hardships, Rose finally gets her lucky break and walks into the life that dreams are made of....or is it?

A roller coaster of scandal, drama and heart pounding suspense follow. The mystery of who is in hiding in the remote cabin and how they got there unfolds in snippets of past, present and future.
I loved the atmospheric, survivalist chapters the most, but the suspense, juicy scandals and thrilling drama kept me reading all night! I can't wait to read more from author Sarah Alderson! Enjoy!

Wow! The Cabin in the Woods is the best thriller I’ve read to date. Alderson’s writing style flows so smoothly and keeps the reader engaged with every word. The chapters in this book alternate between the past and the present, and while I normally don’t prefer this style, Alderson did a wonderful job making it very easy to follow. The one thing I notice about most thrillers is that they’re often wrapped up very quickly in the last few chapters, but not this one! Alderson took her time telling the story and allowed the ending to have its moment. The only critique I have is that there were moments in the beginning that were overly descriptive. I can’t wait to read more of Alderson’s work after this. If you’re a fan of thrillers, I know you’ll love this book! Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

A good thriller with a narrative that slowly reveals the plot in alternating timelines. The author has kept the book short thus maintaining a tight pace. The characters their behaviour and the transition are clear cut. I enjoyed it more than two of the previous books. Go for it

Unexpected in the best way! Though this didn't have much to do with a cabin in the woods, it was an exhilarating complex revenge thriller that ticked all the right boxes.
In the present, Rose Reid is hiding out in an abandoned cabin, injured and afraid. She is terrified of being discovered and it is clear her life depends on staying hidden. The story is intercepted by 'past' chapters that detail the dramatic events that led to the cabin. From her traumatic childhood to her chance meeting with her prince charming, Rose's life seems like an amazing rags to riches story but it's anything but.
The first couple of chapters were a little slow and I thought I was going to hate this. But wow. Once I got into the story I couldn't put it down. It literally infiltrated my dreams. I thought the ending was dragging and becoming farfetched but no. Dick kicking revenge. Is there anything better?

4-5 stars

This is a rags to riches and back again to rags scenario as walls and worlds crumble. Rose Reid is hiding in the cabin in the woods, closer to her skinny fearful childhood self than her more recent persona. Via backtracking from 22 years ago to more recent times which is seamlessly melded with the present day, we learn what has led Rose to the cabin refuge. She really does become a catfish in a shark tank following a meeting in New York City with billionaire Ryan Reid though he makes her feel safe. It’s a Cinderella story but as we know not all fairytales have happy endings with wolf like characters disguising themselves in sheep‘s clothing.

This is a riveting read, an absolute page turner from start to finish and I rip through the pages unable to leave it alone. It’s a fast paced never a dull moment storyline as the depths of what Rose has got herself into reveals it’s self a little bit at a time. The author drops in explosions of information that rock you as they’re so unexpected and you sit there stunned.

The characterisation is excellent you feel everything Rose feels and you root for her and those who help her. Her paranoia, tension, anxiety, helplessness and fear come across loud and clear.

The novel deals with some tough subjects which evolve organically via plot reveals and some do knock you sideways as does the appreciation of what it must be like living in a gilded cage. It’s full of atmosphere especially in the woods with the author using the isolation to ramp up the tension. There are numerous plot twists which escalates the suspense and it builds to a very good conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed the ultimate ending which is more than satisfying.

Overall, this is an addictive psychological thriller which I really enjoy.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Avon Books UK for that much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

I really liked this book a lot. For me Sarah Alderson, is descriptive without being overbearing or boring. She gives you small bread crumbs so that you will want to get to the end. Parts of the story could be a little unbelievable but the way Alderson takes you by the hand while getting you the to the end of Rose's sad tale -you suspend belief. I highly recommend to anyone who likes suspenseful domestic mysteries..

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.
