A wonderful book about bread and all bread products. This cookbook covers everything from making bread anywhere from yeast, old fashioned, no knead, gluten free and sourdough breads to doughnuts, bagels, naan and crackers. This book will open your world to making many variations of bread at home and discover your love of freshly baked breads, crackers, bagels, and dumplings. Many tasty recipes to explore with beautifully laid out photos. There are many I am going to try as I am just getting into baking breads and feel comfortable exploring these recipes. I believe everyone will enjoy the recipes and exploration of making fresh baked goods.
This baking bread book is the one that will cover all avenues and expand your knowledge on baking.
Thanks to Netgalley, Publisher and authors for the opportunity to review the cookbook as well as the recipes!
I was looking for a recipe book on breads for my friend’s birthday when I stumbled across this one on NetGalley. It is a comprehensive collection of many types of breads, and even other baked goods like muffins and donuts. There is even a gluten free section. There are a lot of pictures, not one for every single recipe but probably for 80% of them. This won’t be published in time for my friend’s birthday but I would definitely purchase it for myself!
I’ve been baking bread for the past 14 years. My youngest has severe food allergies to an ingredient commonly seen in many breads, and the risk cross contamination can present has seen the need for Benadryl with the Epi-Pen at the ready (we didn’t need it, thank goodness) and I started baking bread so we could all have bread in our lives again. While we may have started home baking as the only safe option, we’ve kept with it because it’s what we all prefer and I’ve more or less relied on one recipe (Jim Lahey’s no-knead) and generally bake a loaf or two every week and over time I’ve tweaked that no-knead recipe and cooking method to something that works perfectly for us.
But… every so often I want ciabatta bread, or French bread, or sourdough, etc., etc., etc., and I’ll admit that I tend to feel uncomfortable when thinking of veering out of my carbohydrate comfort zone so when I saw this cookbook I immediately wanted to read it because I absolutely still consider myself a beginning baker and the recipes here are amazingly appealing and still manages to seem pretty stress-free.
There’s so much in here and the cookbook is cleanly set up - black font on crisp white with homey photos of seriously appealing loaves, rolls, biscuits, quick breads, crackers, Yorkshire pudding and popovers, pizza crust, muffins and scones, bagels, pretzels, dumplings, ending with the gift of doughnuts and other fried treats. There’s even a section for gluten-free. Like I said, a lot. And, bonus, the vast majority of these are already vegan or easily veganized.
This one is an absolute winner and we’re planning on getting a physical copy of it. I can easily see this becoming a very well loved cookbook in our home and I’m thinking of a few friends who I’d order this title for as well. My final word on this comes straight from my 15 year old who was perusing this with me - “this has so much potential, we need to make a lot of these”. 🙂
If you like bread, donuts, muffins, no knead and many more bread items then this book is for you. I will be purchasing this book as soon as it is published because there are so many great easy recipes that I can't wait to try for myself and my family. There are beautiful pictures that accompany many of the recipes as well that I think just adds to the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a nice book on baking!
With gluten-free and gluten-filled options there's a lot of different recipes in this book. It covers breads, crackers, scones, and more. There's sweet and savory ideas throughout the book and so many varieties! The recipes feel approachable and are thorough without being overwhelming.
This is a helpful book for those interested in baking more.
I am late to the bread baking game, but loving it so far.
This book is amazing for a beginner and my whole neighborhood is very thankful for this book. I having been baking different recipes out of this book and sharing with my neighbors. Everyone has been loving the different breads, and I am ready to move on to trying biscuits and scones. I have been posting photos of my baking and had a couple friends reach out about the recipes, I can't wait for this book to publish so I can just send them the book.
Not even joking, this was the absolute easiest book for making homemade bread! Great recipes and very simple! My favorite from the few recipes I made was the Banana Walnut bread! I made it without the walnut BUT still just the same it was delicious!! Highly highly recommend!
This book is a great resource for easy bread recipes that aren’t intimidating for beginners. The varieties of bread include crackers, biscuits (the American kind), scones, flatbread, muffins, doughnuts, and much more. Some items are not common in the US, which is nice for those who want to embark on a culinary adventure. There is also a gluten free chapter along with a GF flour mixture to get better results in your bakes.
I like that some of the first recipes use all purpose flour instead of bread flour so you can try baking bread without a trip to the grocery store. The book promotes the use of healthy fats over common vegetable oils. My only complaint is that one of these is lard, which is not something I have or want to use. I wish the book had offered a lard alternative.
Yum! Whose mouth doesn’t water when they think of freshly baked bread?! And boy, does this book feature bread! This delightful recipe book covers everything from the basic, traditional bread loaf, to fritters, dumplings, and pizza bases. Each recipe has clear, concise step by step instructions, and most have accompanying photographs to guide you through. There are helpful tips throughout the whole book, giving you the confidence to re-create even the most complex of recipes. The added gluten free section is a real added bonus too. Would definitely recommend!

One of my favourite types of books to read are cookbooks, books about food, stories based on food. I just love food. And one thing have always wanted to do and never had much luck is bread baking. With this book I can see I will be trying harder to make a success of my bread baking.
The recipes are easy to follow and understand. The photos are wonderful and I love the chapters on 'No-Knead Breads, Flatbreads and Crackers, Muffins and Scones and Biscuits and Cornbread. At least I have a better chance of success with these recipes.
Looking forward to working my way through this book and trying all the different recipes. YUM!
A beautiful book with simple recipes. I have tried buttermilk biscuits and raspberry scones, and all the ingredients were in my cupboard. The instructions were easy to follow and the outcome looks pretty much the same as in the book. They taste good too.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for an Advance Review Copy.
Beverly Hudson now has a fan in me. I absolutely loved this bread recipe book and I look forward to making bagels. The recipe book was layered in a way that makes it easier to follow and you can easily go to the section you require. I recommend this book to fellow beginner bakers and highly recommend it to everyone
I received a complimentary copy all opinions expressed are entirely my own
If you, like me, are afraid to try and fail at bread making then this is our cookbook! The recipes in this collection are so well laid out, presented, and photographed so simply and beautifully that I already feel like a “bread baker”! I cannot wait to try the recipes for 48 Hour No Knead Ciabatta and 72 Hour No Knead Sourdough. But if making and maintaining a sourdough starter are what you want, then that’s in here too.
This book is packed full of every kind of bread, that we all want to eat, that you can imagine. Included in this book are recipes for quick breads, yeast breads, no kneads, flatbreads, tortillas, naan, pita, cornbreads, bagels, pretzels, doughnuts and so much more. And the chapter for gluten free is chock full of delicious bread recipes. If I needed to bake gluten free, I would buy this book for that chapter alone!
Seriously, this is a bread baking book that will sit on the counter getting dirty from bread ingredients because it’s a book that will be used often!
Thank you Netgalley, Quarto Publishing Group-Harvard Common Press and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Let's be clear - I am no baker. My history with baking ranges from mediocre to bad (real bad), so when I saw the title of this book, I wondered just *how* easy baking bread could be and decided to put it to the test. If I could just make something that looked vaguely bread-like and was edible then I would be calling it a personal success.
But first, let's talk about the actual book - Easy Homemade Bread: 150 Recipes for the Beginner Baker by Beverly Hudson. Sometimes when a book claims to be for beginners it still assumes a basic level of know-how, this book, thankfully, covers all the basics including how to prove and how to knead dough.
The information and recipes are set out cleanly and clearly along with delicious photographs of baked bread goods.
My favourite sections are the No-Knead Breads and Quick Breads. One of my main barriers to baking is finding the time and I found these two sections extremely useful as they made it possible for me to bake a loaf of bread whilst juggling kids and homeschooling.
So, how did I do? Let's just say I'm calling myself a baker now. I can't express the strange joy that I felt having made my own bread from scratch. I was so proud of how my first loaf turned out, especially when my fussy 8 year old said that they really liked it too.
Do I recommend this book? Absolutely!
This book is perfect for the beginner baker and those with limited free time who want to learn to bake bread.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader's copy of this book.
A well-written book covering many aspects of, mostly, leavened baking - bread, doughnuts, bagels, muffins etc.. Clear instructions although only in US cup units but there is a useful conversion to Metric at the end. Many recipes use the US "all purpose" flour whereas in the UK we would tend to use "strong" flour, white or wholemeal, for breads as they contain greater amounts of the gluten needed to hold a rise. A few recipes did use an American equivalent. My main grouse has to be the author's comments abut the oils used in bread making - just bizarre. She claims plant oils - sunflower, olive, canola (rapeseed) are bad for you and that she always uses coconut, peanut oils, butter or grass fattened hog lard, acknowledging that the coconut and peanut have strong flavours. The saturated fats in animal derived fats are not good for you, there is plenty of good scientific evidence for this whilst the non-saturated vegetable oils/fats are far healthier! A minor point, where on earth do you get said grass-fattened hog lard outside the US? We have lard in the UK and, better still, vegetable lard - a solid white fat which works like traditional animal lards. Still, most recipes use rather little fat so what you use probably has very little real difference to any health issues associated with them. A good basic book with good illustrations for many of the recipes - 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
The use of bleached and unbleached flour is discussed, along with the benefits of using coconut oil, lard, peanut oil, lard and sesame oil instead of unhealthy vegetable oil.
You will learn how to produce yeast breads and no - rise artisan breads in this book. There are recipes for sandwich bread, Greek bread, wheat bread, bread that is braided, bread with onions and herbs, and bread that contains fruit, oatmeal, and pumpkin.
There are also recipes for sourdough bread, sourdough bread has to begin with a starter dough of flour and water that has been allowed to ferment for a couple of days to rise. This dough then has other ingredients added to it to make its unique texture and flavor. Sourdough bread can be made with unbleached flour, oatmeal, or wheat flour to make either bread or buns.
You can make your own hamburger or hot dog buns, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, pumpkin bread, and flatbread using these recipes, instead of paying high prices at the store !
You will be able to make gluten - free breads, rolls, and treats with these easy to use recipes too!
A great collection of all sorts of breads and flour-based baking. There are easier and a bit harder recipes, but starting with the yeast and moving on to sourdough makes life interesting. I am eager to try out several recipes immediately, for example the rustic wheat bread with savory herbs and onions, the no-knead sourdough breads, the sourdough blueberry muffins, flatbreads, and bagels. Yummy times ahead! Recommended to anyone who likes to bake!
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. A great resource for a beginner baker with a good selection of recipes.
The easy homemade bread does exactly what it says. 150 easy to follow recipe's with clear instructions. The only let down was the ingredient lists are only in Cups etc with conversion tables at the back of the book.
I received this book from Quattro publishing group via Netgalley for a review.
This is definitely the “idiots guide to making bread, (So perfect for me!)
Everything is written in the right order in steps, so
first-what tools
Second ingredients
Third method
Fourth cook.
This really makes baking much easier.
There is a wonderful range of breads including French Bread-which my daughter and I have always wanted to make. and hot cross buns, just in time for Easter 😊
I love this book, and, particularly in these economic times in Britain a must have recipe book.
I loved all the recipes in this book. It contains multiple recipes from bread to muffins and doughnuts. The recipes are clear and simple so it's easy to follow them and make homemade bread or focaccia or muffins.
A great resource if you are a beginning baker. Clear and concise instructions are given for making a variety of breads, buns, quick breads and even crackers.
Mmm....bread! This is a fantastic cookbook for all types of bread!
Clear, easy to follow instructions with awesome color photos of the finished products. And it's not just bread - it also has recipes for crackers, scones, muffins, hushpuppies and more. I am making the baguette bread now!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
This is a beautiful book that contains a wide range of recipes for novice bakers. From popular recipes such as sourdough, to sweet treats like doughnuts, this book walks you through the ingredients and methods to produce beautiful home made products. There are useful tips and photographs to help with your confidence too.
This cookbook is all, and I mean ALL, you will ever need to have in your home for making breads, muffins, pitas, cornbreads and all the other delucious foods.
I saved sooo many recipes from this book and will soon be making all those delicious muffins and tortillas.
***Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for providing me with the eARC version for an honest review.***
I love my carbs, and the recipes in this book were right up my alley. I can’t wait to try the braided bread, I’ve seen a lot of tutorials for it and this book may be my opportunity to try making it for myself. I love that it has so many different recipes, including sweets like doughnuts. The way the instructions are presented also make it easier, in my opinion. It basically baby steps you through the bread making process, which is what a first time bread maker is looking for.
I am super excited about this book. There are so many breads that sound delicious. The no knead section really caught my attention. The iced cinnamon rolls and apple quick bread are on my list to try this week.
Thank you for the advanced copy!
This is an easy to follow recipe book that would work for beginners but also has something for the more experienced baker. Everything is clearly laid out and offers much more than bread recipes. A great addition to any cook book collection.
This is a really nice bread baking book and especially for beginners. The recipes, techniques and tips are very clear and the steps are well explained. The pictures are great and helpful to know what the finished product should look like.
What I really liked about this book was the range of recipes it covers. Of course it has the traditional breads, including the sourdough which is not so easy to get into but well explained here. But it also has quite a few no-knead breads, gluten free breads, biscuits and crackers. It is a really nice way to get started and to experiment different techniques and styles of breads. The recipes do not rely on the use of too much equipment and this is also a plus for beginner bakers as they can explore a lot before deciding what more advanced equipment they might like to add to their kitchen.
There are many books about baking bread but I think this one is definitely a good one for those who like to get started successfully and enjoy a great variety of flavours.
Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for this advance reader's copy.
I love that this book is geared towards beginners but still includes so many different styles of bread and types of recipes. There are a couple of intro pages on bread baking, including info on flours and fats. Some of the recipes (outside the gluten free chapter) use alternative flours. The GF chapter also includes formulas for flour mixes.
Recipes are in chapters on Classic Breads; No-Knead Breads; Sourdough; Buns & Rolls; Quick Breads; Flatbread & Crackers; Muffins & Scones; Biscuits & Cornbread; Boiled Breads - Bagels, Pretzels, & Dumplings; Doughnuts & Other Fried Breads, and Gluten-Free Breads.
The book has a lot of nice color photos. This seems like a great collection of starter bread recipes to get some practice and make things people are consuming more frequently.
I am always looking for different types and variations to the bread recipe. This has quick a few new and easy ones I would love to try such as Braided Onion Bread, Quick and easy spoon rolls, yorkshire pudding, and a cast iron skillet pizza crust.
There is no recipe index in the front, which isn't the best, nor do the sections include and index of each recipe which makes it harder to find the ones you are looking for.
Loaded with numerous styles of bread and their recipes. I appreciated the thorough section on how to knead bread dough that included excellent instructions and pictures. I also appreciated the author including a metric conversion chart at the end of the book.
Table of contents include:
An Introduction to Bread Basics
Classic Breads
No-Knead Breads
Sourdough Breads
Buns & Rolls
Quick Breads
Flatbread & Crackers
Muffins & Scones
Biscuits & Cornbread
Boiled Breads: Bagels, Pretzels & Dumplings
Doughnuts & Other Fried Breads
Gluten-Free Breads
For this review, I opted to make the Hot Cross Buns. They were sweet, but not overly sweet, and slightly fluffy, yet dense. They reminded me of dinner rolls but of course sweeter. The directions were quite clear and easy to follow, the kneading was quick, and the rolls only required a couple of hours of rising.
If you are interested in trying out numerous bread recipes, this book is for you. Easy to follow directions with numerous pics.
My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions expressed are
my own.
Delicious!! And so simple! Bread is my downfall. Both my love, and something I can’t seem to do. But this made it so simple with all the tricks and troubleshooting listed and easily accessible.
An amazing book of bread recipes that make it all look so easy. And with this book, it will be much easier. Perfect for beginners who wants to learn to make their own breads. Love the detail, the photos, and over 100 different recipes! When I first saw it said 150 recipes for the beginner baker, I thought yeah probably the same type of recipes, just different versions. Like white bread and then white bread with honey or something like that. But no, these are actual completely different types of breads, doughs, muffins, and even sweet breads to satisfy anyone's craving for bread, and baking. Loved the simplicity this book provides for baking bread. Definitely a keeper.
This book is exactly what I was looking for! I've been wanting to make my own bread at home but was too nervous. This book explains everything in detail-from different flours to the best oils to use when baking. The no-knead breads are the best. I have yet to try a sourdough recipe, but I will definitely use this cookbook when I decide to give it a go.
I really enjoyed how there were numerous kinds of bread recipes. Such as pizza crust, fruit and nut bread, flatbreads, muffins, scones, and your stereotypical sandwich bread! I can't wait to try even more recipes from this cookbook!
