Holding Superman’s Hand

This was hands-down the most mesmerizing contemporary romance I have read in a long time. I absolutely loved the playful oscillation between the present and past so that we are seeing how the characters both fall in love and sort of hate each other at the same time. A brilliant classic enemies to lovers trope here.

I’m a little confused because I read reviews where a few people were upset about the age difference between the male and female character. Clearly the age of consent in Texas is 17, she’s almost 18 & he’s in his twenties, they are both in college, and it is a consensual / respectful relationship where they are both in love and happy. I don’t know what kind of ridiculous world we live in where everyone wants to be a victim and we look for really sweet beautiful things to destroy. This book was FANTASTIC! So many books today focus on abuse, trauma, and extreme descriptive depictions of assault. This book was really sweet and lovely actually. Refreshingly so!

This book has not only touched my heart and soul, it kept me drawn from page one!
Author Amy Katherine is a true natural, a yet undiscovered talent, this being her debut novel.
It is an amazing read, taking place in the 90’s about Amy, a 17 year old college freshman, wise beyond her years and Matt, aka Superman an older, seemingly rude and grumpy bouncer / graduate student.
Amy is sweet and innocent, due to her very conservative upbringing and Matt is a cowboy and gentleman at heart—they are a couple made in heaven, not at first sight, but a perfect match, once you get to know them, you can feel their love story grow with every page you turn and with every word, a reader wants to get to know them better and be a part of their one of a kind love story. One wants to sit at the table with them and just watch them.
The story has it all, it is funny at times, tragic, touching, passionate but mainly inspiring.
It reminds me of the classic Love Story from Erich Segal and its famous quote “Love means never having to say you are sorry,” suits here as well.
Amy Katherine is so passionate about her characters, that they become alive in a heartbeat and you simply want to know more and more about them, you want to be a part of their journey.

I found this book to be both interesting and quite a fun read. The plot really pulled me in, and I found myself rooting for the main character, Amy. It was so different than anything I have read in a while, and it had an intensity to it that took me totally out of my head and engrossed in the story. I believe it is a series, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next book.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Amy is vulnerable as a college freshman. She is profoundly sweet, full of integrity but she’s struggling—it’s like she is drowning, never aware that she’s immersed in water at all…and HE is the only one who sees it. And very much like the superhero he resembles, he rushes into her life and rescues her. Better than that actually, he teaches her how to rescue herself. I really enjoy the enemies to lovers tropes and so this is the epitome of excellence in this genre! I devoured his rudeness knowing that she would eventually melt him—and she does. I think it was the cab ride to the ER when the drunk bar patrons were so mean to her. But he liked her before that because this really affected him. And it made him hotter when he was affected by her tragic incident. Love a man affected and afflicted by a woman. And I like her to be worth it. Like Amy. Five stars!

Loved this book. Took me out of my head for a few hours each day as I read it. I felt a genuine element to the storyline that feels rare. Can’t remember the last time something caught my attention like this and can’t wait to see more from this author.
