Thank you to NetGalley, sharper Collins Audio, Avon Books and Laura Jane Williams for an audio ARC in return for an honest review.
Ruby is leaving London, she needs to focus on her ambitions. Nic is moving to London after a nasty break up. Nic buys Rubys sofa and the chemistry is instant but it’s the wrong time for both of them.
Oh my goodness, I adore this book. ‘One Night With You’ is just outstanding from start to finish. It’s romantic, funny and sad in places. You end up so invested in all the characters and the plot is brilliant. I can’t hype this book enough. It will be a bestseller.
The narrators; Charlotte Beaumont and Arthur McBain add extra warmth and romance to this already outstanding book. Their voices are perfect for Nic and Ruby and suited them beautifully.
This is perfect for fans of Beth O’Leary.
This was a truly beautiful story. It is packed full of flirty romance, awesome characters and guaranteed to give you all the feels! Loved it.!
Works great as an audiobook, the narrators are great and it was a lovely effortless listen.
Laura Jane Williams does it again. I don’t know how she can consistently creates characters with such depth; with female leads you root for and men you wish were the majority, not minority, in real life - but she does. The world would be a much better place if it was filled with LJW characters.
This book broke my heart in the best way, and as long time LJW lover, it’s so lovely to see how her stories have progressed over time. Yes this is a romance, but it’s just as much falling in love with yourself, your friends, and life, than it is about a partner. An excellent read and I already can’t wait for her next novel.
Thank you NetGalley and Harpercollins for the advance version of the audiobook.
Timing is everything.
One Night With You is a story of a one night stand - in theory. In practice Ruby and Nic are starting to feel something, but they are not sure what and life just happens and everything gets a bit complicated.
Laura Jane Williams has an incredible talent to describe life in a captivating way. That was my second read of this author and would swear that she is presenting me with a real life story. It is amazing.
Nevertheless, I am a little confused, and I think I liked it more than I didn't.
I'm assuming that it is because I can't fully understand the behaviour of the characters. And it is not because it was not logical, but because they had so much persistence in their decisions - very strong characters - unexpected.
What is also confusing is the fact that it is a happy ending story but it leaves you sad. Hard to describe this feeling in between.
I do recomend this title. It is a very well written story, it's unexpected and in a very Laura Jane Williams style.
Ruby and Nic meet by chance. They have a connection. It's Ruby's last night in London, as Nic has only just moved to the area. But sometimes fate allows you to meet the person you are meant to be with, it just means it isn't the right time.
Williams writes a thought-provoking narrative on love and chance encounters, that not only do we follow the main characters, Nic and Ruby, but also the character of JP. This narrative has twists and turns that you do not see coming and will leave you honestly guessing until the very end. This novel also has very sensitive themes such as death, grief and miscarriage.
My favorite character was Ruby because I liked her determination and ambition, how she knew what she wanted and wouldn't let things get in the way. However, each character had depth and personality that you wanted to know personally and have as your friend; especially the character of Jackson.
This is the third book I have listened to by this author and it doesn't disappoint, a more complicated narrative than the previous novels, but I still enjoyed it and will continue to look for their name when searching for my book choices.
Laura Jane Williams has done it again! Another amazing book that I couldn’t stop listening to. I’ve listened to all her books, rather than reading them and this audio did not disappoint. The narrators were fabulous and really bought the characters to life. The story itself was great. Our two main characters meet on Ruby’s last night in London as Nic has just moved to the area. As they only have one night together, Ruby decides to enjoy herself before moving to university and starting a celibate ‘year of me’. Sparks fly but Ruby moves out of London in the morning. With great supporting storylines, this book is definitely one I’d listen to again.

Thank you to NetGalley and Laura Jane Williams for an ARC copy of the audiobook, in exchange for an honest review.
I adored this story! Ruby and Nic had a chemistry that was undeniable and the will they won't they aspect of the story had me on tender hooks throughout. What I loved most about this story was meeting characters like JP. I love a good love story and the journey to find his missing love was both heart breaking and emotional. Fun, sweet and full of so much love I swept through this story in one sitting and loved every minute of it.
A beautiful story of all types of love.
Heartbreak, lust, new love, love at the wrong time and love at the right time.
A wonderful pair of narrators who really brought the chemistry between the character.s
It was an absolute joy to listen to this audiobook. Charlotte Beaumont and Arthur McBain were a perfect choice to voice Ruby and Nic.
Ruby meets Nic after selling her sofa to him. Who'd have thought that by this simple act, would lead to a one night stand on Ruby's final evening in London. She's moving to Manchester to run away from her ex and to start Uni. That is just the start!
I didn't want this to end, I've always enjoyed Laura Jane Williams' writing and I think this is her best yet.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC audiobook.
I was excited to read this as I've enjoyed other Laura Jane Williams books and I did enjoy it but it's not my favourite.
The chemistry between Ruby and Nic was great and I was rooting for them to get together but I didn't enjoy some parts in the middle, there seemed to be too many subplots happening all at once, but I did enjoy how it all came together at the end.
The side characters were fantastic and I loved the dynamic between them all, especially JP, and I was very invested in his story as well as the main plot.
It's his first night in London. And her last...
Ruby's leaving London after being offered an exciting opportunity in a new city at just the perfect time – away from her ex. Nic is moving to London after a bad break up – he is excited to see where the big city life could take him. When a chance meeting throws the pair of them together for just one night, it's clear that this could be the start of something special. But there's one problem: she's leaving, and he's just arriving. So, after tonight, they'll never see each other again... will they?
I was thrilled when netgalley offered me a chance to read an ARC for One Night With You. Laura Jane Williams is a romantic comedy guru and I really enjoyed ‘The Lucky Escape’ and ‘The Love Square’.
I found this one to be a very contemporary romance- more emotional. It was funny, heart-breaking and genuine. I enjoyed the chapter split between the perspectives of Nic and Ruby. Nic was great, a totally unique character and I valued his quirkiness.
This isn't a typical romance, more contemporary but overall a wonderful story of two strangers and one night that changes everything!
One Night With You by Laura Jane Williams
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins and I am leaving this review voluntarily

I have previously enjoyed a novella by Laura so I was interested in seeing if I would also enjoy a full length novel - this lived up to my expectations. The night before she leaves London, Ruby meets Nic on his first night in the city - you may guess what happens next. There are multiple plots running in parallel through this book with Nic and Ruby going their separate ways - will their paths ever meet again?
A good representation of right person, wrong time. A beautifully written book that focuses on the main characters as individuals. I enjoyed the ending and I am sure you will too.
Rating 4/5
I have mixed feelings about this book couse I was lost in the middle but it comed all together and the end so I was glade and sattisfied. I love the steam between the mc but then suddeny was all dark and I was sad but it is all part of a plan and belivable somehow. Many difficult themes like abortions and death .
Many thanks to Harper Collins Audio and Netgalley for this audio copy.
One Night With You
I was given the opportunity to listen to this audiobook and I was happy to give it a go. I have tried to listen to audiobooks in the past and I haven’t enjoyed them, so I was apprehensive but keen to hear this story. Ruby is spending her last night in London before embarking on ‘The Year Of Me’. A bad break up has spurred her on to go back to uni - to pursue her dreams of becoming a filmmaker. It’s Nic’s first night in London. He’s left his life in Liverpool for an adventure. On this night they meet by chance - or destiny. They both know they only have one night together, so they’re going to make it count & then go their own ways. Except life has other ideas. This book was really funny, but I could tell early on I wasn’t going to enjoy it as much as I would if I were reading it. I felt the narration hindered my imagination but I wasn’t ready to give up on the book so I switched to the ebook to finish it. The story was sweet, the dialogue funny and I liked a lot of the characters. Ruby was funny and I admired her determination and dedication to herself, Nic while also funny was a little bit too perfect, he didn’t seem to have a single flaw. I really enjoyed this one.
Ruby is leaving London after breaking up from her ex boyfriend she’s not leaving because of him per se but she does feel like he broke her Slightly but an exciting opportunity in Manchester has landed at the right time to get her Master’s degree in film and Nic is moving to London after a bad breakup from his ex girlfriend he goes round ruby’s to buy her sofa where he gets invited round for pizza and drinks with her friends they share a house and say that they let out the back bedroom to foreign students and scamming them by paying way to much rent and ruby and nic have a one night stand and ruby leaves for Manchester but they can’t forget each other and go on a date but will they be each other’s happily ever after
This is a great story with romance and laughter and had me gripped throughout so totally recommend
Thank You NetGalley And HarperCollins Uk Audio
I just reviewed One Night With You by Laura Jane Williams. #OneNightWithYou #NetGalley
Really enjoyed this audiobook, the narrators were making the book better than if I’ve read it myself! I would highly recommend it.
Synopsis: When a sofa on Facebook Marketplace leads you to your soulmate, but they’re moving across the country, what do you do? This is the story of Ruby and Nic, as he moves down to London while she moves north to Manchester. They spend one night together after he buys her sofa and they lose touch. After they can’t stop thinking about each other for months that follow, their mutual friend Jackson puts them back in touch. They get to know each other over silly rhyming poems in text messages and flirty comments under Instagram pictures, and they almost take the step to become something more. When a life-changing event threatens to split them apart, will they find their way back to each other?
I loved everything about this story. I think Laura Jane Williams has done it again. This was a funny, feel-good, sexy contemporary romance, where the characters had a lot of depth, internal and external conflict and you were really rooting for them as a couple. I loved their rag-tag team of friends and family, all of whom made the book that much more interesting. They added support, additional conflict, and interesting side-plots which helped us learn so much more about the characters themselves.
I thought the audiobook was especially interesting and really fun to listen to. I loved their distinct accents, as Nic is from Liverpool and Ruby’s family are from near Manchester. This is definitely my favourite of Laura Jane Williams’ books and I’ve read 4 of her romance novels already! I loved how there was a prominent debate of fate vs choice throughout the novel and I felt that it both felt like kismet to the reader and at times also empowered the characters to act.
I’ll definitely be recommending this book to anyone who loved a good rom-com. I could easily imagine this as the next Hating Game style adaptation for Netflix and I would honestly watch it repeatedly because of how good the dialogue was and how great the chemistry between the two romantic leads was.
Have you read any of Laura Jane Williams’ books before? Let me know what you thought below!
Some hard storylines but I did quite enjoy the novel anyway. Well written and it did keep me interested however I got a tad lost in the middle. Hence the 4 stars
What a lovely romance, which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you are looking for an easy to read holiday book, then this is perfect for you.
Ruby is moving away from London, and Nic is moving to London. Nic meets Ruby when he goes to her house to buy a sofa from her. They like each other immediately, and Nic is soon invited back for pizza with Ruby and her housemates. What will happen though when Ruby has to leave London. Will she be able to see Nic again so that they can explore their feelings?
This is a great book, which is funny and light-hearted, with dabs of sadness too, to make it feel authentic. A heart-warmer for sure, this book will give you all the feels, and satisfy that cosy space in you that you have been waiting to be filled!
The audiobook narrators were great, and I loved their accents. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a lovely feel good rom com of a book, funny, sweet and really easy to listen to. I like to listen to audio books on my way to work and this one was really easy to dip in and out of. Funny, feel good and a great storyline. I also liked the audio reader too.
Narrator 5 stars
Fantastic voice! So soothing
Story 4 stars
The characters were all likeable and the story moved along beautifully. It played out like a RomCom in my head.
First time I've heard of this author so will definitely be seeing what else is available from Kindle/audible
Thank you so much to both Laura Jane Williams & Net Galley for this audiobook.
I absolutely adored this book,
I had been listening to it whilst I was out walking and I swear it’s made me walk so much because I’ve just needed to know what’s going to happen next.
The narrators for this book were just incredible & the swapping back and end characters kept me so interested.
I was so invested in seeing how Ruby & Nic could work things out.
Them meeting on Ruby’s last night in London amped up the steamy romance levels so much, I instantly adored both of them.
As we saw there characters develop I actually loved both of them so so much, they were both such good people and it was such a good representation of right person, wrong time.
The fall out with friends, moving away to study, leaving old relationships behind, finding lost romances for others ughhh it was all just absolute perfection and I couldn’t have loved it more.
Laura Jane Williams has become one of my favourite romance authors by a mile.
I listened to the audiobook and felt at home with the Liverpudlian and bit of Mancunian accents. I think I’d have enjoyed it less reading it physically but it was a lovely listen.
I teared up towards the end of the book - it’s all about timing and it caught me when I was already a bit emotional. As a mood reader, I believe there’s a right time to read a particular book.
I liked the whole cast of characters and I enjoyed there being some older characters and the LGBTQIA+ representation.
It's a well known fact that Laura is the Queen of the meet cute, and creating relatable and hilarious characters, and this novel is possibly her best yet.
The plot is expertly crafted, and a complete page turner. I especially loved the intense emotional connection between the two main characters, it was as tangible as if I was there observing them in person.
If fast paced storylines and romance is your thing, you'll love this.
Another great audiobook from one of my favourite authors.
Nic meets Ruby and her housemates by chance on Ruby's last night in London, just as Nic is newly arriving in the capital. Nic has recently split up with his long-term girlfriend, while Ruby is about to embark on a "year of me"; staying away from men, focussing on her university course and achieving her dreams. The chemistry (and sex) is unbelievable but they're both clear that this is a one night encounter with no strings attached. But with their pasts throwing them both curve balls, nothing is plain sailing.
Nic, Ruby and their friends are great characters with warm, genuine relationships. I loved following them venturing into their new lives, the networks of friendships they develop and how fate keeps bringing them together and tearing them apart. I didn't want it to end.
Well that just happened ! Laura Jane Williams I hope your proud of yourself because you have now ruined all other rom com books (including coho) !
Wow
I’m not sure where to start but I suppose thank you to harper Collins, netgalley and of course Laura Jane Williams for gifting me this phenomenal book would be a start.
I adored this book , I kept trying to stop myself reading fast because I didn’t want it to end but equally I had to know what was going to happen next.
I’m in love with both nick, ruby and well basically everyone especially of course JP.
This book was perfection for me, everything just came together harmoniously. It had deep love without being sappy , realistic friendships that had bust ups, fall outs, forgiveness and honesty. It had tragedy, heartbreak and of course a bit of romp for extra spice.
I adored the writing and even the split between characters which can become a massive distraction ended up working perfectly in this case.
I couldn’t sense where the plot was going (like most rom coms) and was genuinely surprised with where the story ended up taking me.
This must be on everyone’s summer reading list because I genuinely adored it and can’t think of anyway it could be improved (which I don’t say often )!
I also tried this book as an audiobook and the narration was spot on .
As I have no criticisms I will leave this review here and be off to add all of Laura Jane Williams prior books to my Amazon wishlist!
Have you read this or any of Laura Jane Williams other books yet and if so what did you think?
kis·met- destiny; fate. "what chance did I stand against kismet?"
Sarcasm and silly are my thing and this book was dripping with it.
The romance was intense, tender and honest. They were vulnerable and interesting. The back and forth that was going on with these two just kept me glued. Nick **sigh** Nick. He’s perfect in an imperfect way that just made him more adorable.
The novel gave me that dreamy, escapable pleasure thing I look for in a book. It wasn’t my perfect ending but it was still good. Summer read for sure.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and loved the Charlotte Beaumont and Arthur McBain as the narrators. They were awesome. I highly recommend listening to this.
Thanks HarperCollins Audio via NetGalley.

ONE NIGHT WITH YOU by LAURA JANE WILLIAMS
When Nic buys an old sofa from Ruby, there is an instant attraction between the two.
The problem is that it’s Ruby’s last night living in London and it’s Nic’s first night living in the city.
With such an intense attraction, Ruby and Nic agree they can have one night of passion before they both move on with their new lives.
Of course life doesn’t run to plan. Ruby and Nic keep getting drawn back into eachothers orbit.
Can they find a way to be together? Or will their vastly different directions in life prove too much to overcome?
This book is an enjoyable read. It’s nicely written and flows well.
A little fruity in places, but also has some genuinely touching emotion.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Released on 26/5/22
With thanks to #Netgalley and #HarperCollinsUkAudio for an audio arc of this title.
Faultless narration by Charlotte Beaumont and Arthur McBain.
First of all I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was just what I needed. This book has everything you need. It's got the romance, brilliant friendships and humour. I seriously enjoyed this book and it was just such an easy read.
The narrators of the books did a brilliant job and really brought the characters alive for me. I absolutely loved Nic and JP they were beautiful characters with big hearts and they kept me smiling throughout the book. There were little bits in the book that had me feeling so sad for both of these characters and I just wanted reach out and hug them! Then ending was not what I was expecting but it made me love it all the more and certainly made it feel much more 'real life' because lets be honest whos love life is perfect? Haha.
Anyway, if your looking for a quick, easy romance book then this is for you. I would certainly recommend audio as well!
I have since read the wrong suitcase and have purchased two other books for Laura Jane Williams. She will definitely be an auto buy author from now on.
Even a thriller fan needs a good romcom in there life and that’s exactly how this one played out in my head. Such loveable characters with some you just want to bring home with you… yes I’m looking at you JP 🥰. Great storyline that just moved along so nicely with each character having there own drama and some you become so invested in and find yourself really rooting for. The narration was fabulous and really added to the listen. I really enjoyed it on audio and I definitely recommend this format as it really has so much going on. It’s my first first book by this author but I’ll be keeping my eye out for more of her work.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC that’s due for release on the 26th of May.
I am now discovering the true joys of audiobooks and it’s thanks to authors like LJW and the fabulous narrators that bring the stories to life. I did have the arc ebook, but was scared I wouldn’t get round to reading it in time because of training for my new job, so I cheekily requested the audio arc as well and was so blessed to have been granted that. .
The narrators had me laughing, gasping and even crying. They really made Nic & Ruby seem real. And people I’d love to be friends with or even date lol. Sending so much love and praise to the narrators.
I do love reading along, but it’s brilliant having the ability to do simple things like housework and still able to devour the book.
(Below is the review for the ebook arc which obviously applies to the audiobook too).
When I love a book, I can struggle with writing a review. Putting my thoughts down on paper (as it were) is an impossible feat, so forgive me if this seems rather basic.
Okay, so this may sound a little OTT, but I have no other way to describe this book other than pure Romcom perfection!
I have nothing but love for this book and everything in it. Yes, it’s hilarious and has plenty of moments of gorgeous love, but it is more than a romcom. It’s a beautiful reflection of real life.
Nic and Ruby are the central characters, but as with real life, it’s never straightforward, and we can find our life taking a completely different route to the one we had planned or expected. That life’s complexities make us realise we never know what can happen. From chance encounters to love long gone but never forgotten and, of course, how a goodbye can turn into a hello. It is all part of life’s rich tapestry and is reflected beautifully in this book.
The whole crew are brilliant. There isn’t a character I didn’t love. JP especially stole my heart. He is adorable.
This book has love, friendships, fallouts, heartbreak and surprises galore.
Honestly, I could gush about this book all day, every day. It’s one of my top favourite romcoms, and Laura Jane Williams is now a firm favourite author.
I cannot leave this review without mentioning the brilliant imagery. Now, I know that may seem like a fantasy book term, but LJW words bring these characters to life. As I have an arc, there’s no guarantee this line will be in the book but using it as an example of the delightful imagery and how these few words make the character come alive.
-I bob my head from side to side and exaggerate my chewing, the universal sign for ‘Hold on - my mouth is full’-
I can easily picture that in my head and instantly laugh with the image but also knowing that, yes, I’ve done that too! It’s pure brilliance!
And another shout out for fabulous LGBTQ rep.
A massive thank you to NetGalley & Harper Collins for the arc ebook. It was a pure joy to read.
And thank you, Laura Jane Williams. Your stories are funny as hell and have so much heart.
I listened to Laura Jane Williams “one stop” and I absolutely loved it! It’s not something I usually read. I’m not usually a “will they won’t they” trope but I really like how Laura writes them!
Ruby is living her last night in London before moving to Manchester. When she sells her sofa and meets Nic, a guy who just moved to London to escape a breakup, she is greeted with instant sparks and the feeling is mutual.
But ruby moves to Manchester and Nic stays in London. And they move on from their lives.
I really loved how ruby and Nic are so mature and cute. They accepted that they weren’t ready for each other and went their seperate ways while sort of still being friends. It was refreshing that we didn’t get that toxic jealousy and pettiness I’m used to reading.
This was a little predictable though I was still sad that pj never got to meet his long lost love properly. And they just missed! I was not expecting Jackson though! I was praying he would be okay along with them!!
Overall I really enjoyed it, it wasn’t my favourite type of book (I personally don’t absolutely adore “will they won’t they” books) but this is a book i will think about and smile every once in a while. The characters moved me and I will hold them dear to my heart.
Thank you netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this arc in exchange of my honest opinion
The night before the lovely Ruby leaves London, she meets Nic, who is having his first day in London. A chance encounter involving a well-loved sofa, begins a beautiful journey of love and friendship, chasing dreams, finding yourself and a huge dose of right person / wrong time.
Ruby and Nic we’re great, well-rounded characters, but for me – I absolutely loved Jackson. He is someone that EVERYONE could do with in their lives! This heartfelt, tender and warm story is so much more than a typical romance novel – it is a journey. This fast-paced story fits perfectly with the slow burn of the romance and was peppered with humour and sarcasm throughout! I was lucky enough to be gifted the audiobook and the narrators, Charlotte Beaumont and Arthur McBain we’re great.
My thanks to the author and Harper Collins UK Audio for my advance copy to review via Netgalley. Due out 26th May 2022!!
I chose this book because I have read Williams's previous novel, The Love Square, which I enjoyed and reviewed here.
Ruby and Nic meet by chance one day in London. Unfortunately, it's Ruby's last day in London before leaving for Manchester to complete her master's degree and Nic's first day in London, recovering from a bad breakup.
While this is effectively the story of a one-night stand, there is a lot else going on; it's a case of the right person but the wrong time for them as a couple. Unfortunately, life gets in the way, and things become complicated. There are quite a few different storylines to follow, which I found a little confusing at times, though I am unsure if it's because I was listening and missed parts making it my fault rather than the author or narrator.
This isn't your classic romance. One Night with you focuses more on the characters' development, determination, and ambition than on their romance. Ruby's pledge of it being the year of herself is an interesting concept and one I like the idea of, but it didn't quite flow as well as it could have for me, but I did admire her determination to not be swayed. Nic was a little too perfect, which put me off a bit.
The chemistry between the two characters was excellent and well portrayed. I was rooting for them to change plans and get together. The middle dipped for me a little, but then everything came together well in the end, which I loved.
This was another great book from Laura Jane Williams.
The narrators were fabulous and really helped to bring the story together. Their voices complemented the characters well.
I enjoyed this book. The two protagonists meet when Nic comes to Ruby’s home to purchase her sofa the night before she leaves London. The attraction is strong and immediate. After a night of passion, Ruby leaves for a new life in Manchester as Nic begins his own in London.
The author has written two highly likeable characters, each starting a new chapter in their life. Told in alternating dual narratives, the reader is provided with great detail on what is happening in Ruby and Nic’s lives over the next several months. As a film-making student, Ruby’s focus is on successfully completing university. Nic’s world is turned upside down when he learns of a life-changing event.
Ruby has vowed not to pursue a relationship with anyone during what she calls “The Year of Ruby”. Throughout this time, Ruby and Nic have intermittent contact with one another despite the difference in geography. A friendship is fostered and the two come to rely on one another during difficult times.
As the year progresses it is clear that Ruby and Nic want to be together. But timing is everything, and Ruby is faced with making a difficult choice. The author does a great job demonstrating the inner conflict Ruby is faced with. Being true to yourself at each moment in life is a key message in this book. I recommend this book to those readers who enjoy General Fiction.
I listened to the audiobook of One Night With You which was narrated by Charlotte Beaumont and Arthur McBain. Their performances felt natural and easy to listen to. Their enthusiasm as these characters enhanced this already lovely story. I have no hesitation in recommending the audiobook to those that enjoy this format.
Thank you to HarperCollins UK Audio and Netgalley for the ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
