Description

My Big-GOD's Masterpiece is a riveting account of a coming of age girl who was desperately fighting for self-love because the environment she was exposed to negatively influenced her self-esteem. This environment made her life difficult and took her down a mentally dark path, which could have led to a destructive lifestyle and eventually suicide.

This is a heart-wrenching and eye-opening story in which readers will discover why it is important to grow to love every part of their face and bodies despite what the beauty industry deem as the "perfect" face or facial feature/s. This will also serve as an encouragement for young girls and ladies with similar struggles to learn to adopt an attitude of gratitude, know that their unique attributes serve a greater purpose, and not allow people's words to shape their perspectives on what beauty looks like. Most importantly, with God being our Creator, they will find HE has not forsaken them, and they can find validation and comfort in Him and be empowered to push past the beauty industry ideals and standards. As a result, people can grow to love and appreciate the features He has affixed them with and begin making whole their rejected parts.

Personal Memoir with Poetry and Commentary Included

From the Author:'

"I just wanted to give that broken-spirited young girl, as I once was, who is afraid to speak up, who struggles with self love, a voice and knowledge that every feature she has is perfectly made, designed by GOD and that she is not measured by society's standards but should adhere to GOD's standards because we are all HIS beautiful work of art...I was looking at the glass half empty and God helped me to look at it half full by showing me that my big and weird looking parts have extra purpose on earth...there is even poetry about fear, because I was fearful of people noticing my "flaws"... With this work, I hope that others can grow out of their fears and into an environment of self-love."

My Big - God’s Masterpiece tells the story of the author, Nadia Cherise Major, as she grows up with relentless teasing. Major is raw and open about her experiences and how her faith in Jesus got through the hard days and led her to a place where she is comfortable and much more confident. Her story should be a lesson for all young girls who experience teasing and bullying. The Lord will not forsake you because He is with you even at your darkest times. She does a wonderful job addressing the pressure that the beauty industry, fashion industry, and society puts on women and girls to be a certain size and look a certain way. A way that is often unattainable. She also included references to articles and various sources to further drive her point home. Major’s position and attitude towards the industries are body positive and encouraging. As a mother of young girls, I really appreciated that.

In addition to her testimony, Major gives us a glimpse into her childhood in the Bahamas. Her description of her childhood paints a picture of life on the islands and I really enjoyed getting to peer into a life different from my own. By the end of her memoir, I felt like I genuinely knew Major. Her writing was easy to follow and she did a great job with descriptions and imagery. The pacing of her book was great and overall, I really enjoyed it.

Towards the end of the book, Major shares some of her poetry. Beautifully written and inspiring, they are a great conclusion to the rest of her book. I also appreciate that she included pictures of herself throughout her life. You can see her confidence grow in the pictures, especially in those when she is an adult.

All in all, I found this to be a really uplifting book for women. It is refreshing to know that we are not alone in our struggles. I appreciate the author’s honesty in her experience. Reading one woman’s experiences and how she overcame her struggles is inspiring and can help others in their own struggles.
