Description

Illustrated throughout with 200 outstanding colour photographs, Endangered Animals presents an in-depth look at around 100 species of animal from around the world, all of which are currently endangered or threatened according to the annual list drawn up by the World Conservation Union (IUCN). The selection spans a broad spectrum of wildlife, from large, charismatic mammals such as the Bengal tiger to lesser-known species such as New Zealand’s kakapo, the world’s only flightless parrot, which was once presumed to be extinct. Each continent is covered, with examples carefully drawn from every habitat – from the mysterious aye-aye of Madagascar’s shrinking rainforest, to the shy spectacled bear of the high Andes. Arranged geographically, each photographic entry is supported by a fascinating caption, which explains the animal’s current plight and whether it is critically endangered or classified as vulnerable. From the Ethiopian wolf to the Bengal tiger to monk seal and dugong, Endangered Animals is a fascinating introduction to some of the most threatened species on the planet.

A stunning photo book about some of Earth's endangered animals. The pictures let us get a close look at animals that if we do not change our ways may become extinct. Even as an adult I found the information about the animals interested and even learned a few new animals.

This book would be great to start conversations with children about why animals are endangered and what we can do to stop that from happening.

It was also refreshing to see that amount of animals that now live in protected areas.

Side note: LOVED all the ape and monkey pictures in this book, hate how many of them have to be in this book though.

Will definetly purchase for myself to look through again with my neices and nephews.

The photography in this book is phenomenal, how some of the shots were taken I’ll never know! I loved the nuggets of information that accompanied each picture too.

Endangered Animals is a really neat book, with lots of bright photos and descriptions of endangered species. It covers the whole world, chapters divided by continent. This would be a great book for any child that just adores animals, and can be used for research purposes too!
