Vampires have taken over the country under the guise of a New Order!
To add to the dilemma, they've released a virus that mutates humans so that their blood is more beneficial to the vampire. Trained in herbology and naive to the extent of the New Order's devilry, Haven goes underground to create a cure for the virus. Not realizing that the New Order is run by vampires, she heads east to her uncle's farm in hopes that he will help her distribute the cure. Surprises, perils, losses, and love quickly alter her naive view of life. A strong and determined young woman emerges and the war with the vampires begins.

This was such a great beginning to the story. This book follows Haven, Rita, her best friend and Rita's brother Chase who happens to be Havens high school sweetheart. After a pandemic left people either slightly mutated or badly mutated there were few who were immune to the virus. The 3 of them happen to be immune. They set off from their homes in Oklahoma to make it to hHavens uncles farm in upstate new York hoping to find solace and home there. Halfway through chase and Rita are separated from Haven. We follow Haven as she continues on to her uncles and learn that this pandemic is anything other than what everyone thought. Haven meets new people and makes new enemies as well as learning the real, hard truth about what's really going on. I won't say anymore because I won't spoil the rest but you will be shocked to learn what's really going on and like me won't be able to wait for part 2 to find out what happens next.

Oh, the way the story started out with the prologue was not what I was expecting! Who are Rita, Chase, Haven, Sara, Rick, Peter, Jared, Glenda, Malcolm, and Oliver? What is going on in the world and what do we learn about each of these characters? This was a completely unexpected read from Ms. Sheehan! While it is along the same trope as her other books, this felt completely different as I was reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It had something that really drew me in to the story line. At first, I liked Rick, then I loathed him, and then I came back around to not being entirely sure how I felt, but I realized he wasn't the bad guy I was thinking he was. I liked Bethany as well!!! I am not sure how I feel about Sara, especially towars the end when Haven ends up having to hide when Sara and Rick come into the barn. What happened with and to Peter? I cannot wait for the next book!!!

This book pulled me in and kept me entranced till the end. The feelings of love, hate, and pain coming out in waves making you want to cry while you read. This was such a beautiful book! I loved the characters wholesomeness!.

The hero, Haven develops a cure for the affliction, but goes on the run with her friends. will she make it to the safety of her uncles far? Will it be safe? Will she realise that Vampires have taken over the world and can she defeat them? A fabulous adventure following Haven and her friends in their struggles to cure and save the world and ultimately to find themselves. Compelling and exciting read full of twists and unexpected turns.
