Well, what can I say, James Patterson has done it again! A complete page turner and can not put down book. An Alex Cross book which can be read independently or as a follow on to the series, this story follows a serial killer dubbed ‘The Family Man” with plenty of red herrings, twists and turns. Absolutely recommend this to everyone, only downside (no spoilers) is the cliffhanger and having to wait for the next book! Thank you for the advanced copy, from one very happy JP follower! :-)
James Patterson gas smashed it again with this amazing Alex cross instalment. He just gets better and better. Only downside is having to wait for the next one! This is a fast paced thrilling read. Highly recommend this.
Alex Cross in fine fettle yet again hunting a killer known as the Family Man killer. The story is pacy and well structured, with the twists and turns we have come to expect from James Patterson. This one was long awaited and all the more enjoyable for that.
In the meantime, Bree is hired to spy on a society stalwart, a case with its own revelations.
All in all a worthy addition to the Cross series. Thank you Mr Patterson.
What can I say about Alex Cross that hasn't been said before. Triple Cross is book number 30 to feature Detective Cross and I think it is probably the longest series that I have constantly kept reading. I might have a happy dance when I received this advanced ARC to read, and it did not stay unread for long. After a few dud reads, I picked it up, knowing that Patterson would not let me down.
One of my all time favourite authors, and he did not disappoint. Alex and John are working the case of a serial killer who kills entire families. They have a clever killer on the run, never leaving any clues. At the same time, Alex's wife, Bree has a top secret case in New York. The Alex Cross books are always full of action and adventure, and with short chapters, they are really hard to stop reading.
If I was in trouble, I would definitely want Alex Cross helping me. He is tough, takes no crap and highly dedicated. He loves his family more than anything, and they are a part of my world now too. How can you not love Nanna Mama and her cooking, or Ali and his keen detective skills.
These books are always a highlight in my reading year, and I will continue to read them as long as James Patterson writes them.
A massive thank you to Random House UK for making this Patterson fan very very happy.
Triple Cross is out October 27th.
TRiple Cross is the latest in the very prolific James Patterson's Alex Cross series. Amazingly the first of the 30 Alex Cross books was published way back in 1993.
Triple Cross finds cross trying to track down a serial killer known as "The Family Man", a truly callous and evil individual who targets seemingly random whole families to murder, children included. As Cross investigates so does a best-selling True Crime author who has made his name writing books about murders that his insights have helped Police solve.
While Alex continues his homicide investigation wife Bree is investigating the alleged murky secrets of a Fashion icon.
As Alex Cross fans have come to expect this is a fast-moving and exciting read with some neat twists and a big shift in the backstory of Cross's nemesis, the mysterious "M".
It’s hard to believe that this is the 30th Alex Cross book, and it feels as fresh as ever. It’s like taking up with an old friend, comfortable, enjoyable and you know you’re going to have a good time. Alex’s family has grown with him, and his children have definite characters of their own, and I love Nana Mama, although I do wonder how much longer she will be able to appear in each new book in the series. A really good read, with great plotting, pacing and writing. Another 5 star read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Im a huge Alex Cross fan and this did not disappoint, once again Alex is chasing a chilling killer, along side his partner Samson, and the duel story had his wife Bree on an investigation of her own which I enjoyed too.
As always it had you guessing until the end and always good to hear how Nana Mama is doing too. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this early copy.
Very exciting;
I've read many of the early Alex Cross crime novels and this 30th case got me excited again. One can easily read this book without having to know the previous cases. There is also an overarching story that probably stretches across several books. However, the details are limited and do not disturb. I particularly liked the fact that Alex and his wife Bree each work independently on a case. Since the narrative perspective changes back and forth between the two, it's always exciting and I really wanted to read on and know more. Both cases are very well told. Alex Cross is still a great read after so many books. Good entertainment!
Another great story from James Patterson with his character Alex Cross. Non stop action from beginning to end. A very complex story in many ways which unravels brilliantly to the conclusion. A great cast of characters and a well developed method of making them all appear real. Read it in one day and couln't put it down!.
A typical James Patterson book, with fast action, interesting turns and a good twist at the end leading the reader to the next book! A good personal story running through the case which made me engage with the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend the book.
The Family Man, a ruthless serial killer has come to DC and Cross and Sampson are on his trail.
What is the connection to Thomas Tull, the best selling author and his previous books about serial killers?
Fast paced and many twists, Patterson is back to doing what he does best, writing on his own and keeping us on the edge of our seats!
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Cornerstone Publishing for the chance to review this book
First of all the last page will likely also have you screaming nooooooo!
The rest of the book will have you on the edge of your seat, suspecting all bar Cross and anxious for clarity. Complex, twisted and unpredictable the investigation is full of frustrations for both the fictional detectives and the armchair reader detectives!
James Patterson never fails to deliver and this is no exception.
I am generally not a fan of the more recent James Patterson novels, finding them formulaic and poorly written. His habit of employing co-writers has weakened the impact of the earlier novels. However, I did enjoy the latest Alex Cross where the writing and plotting came closer to the earlier books. Whilst Alex's wife, Bree Stone heads to New York to investigate a famous fashion designer, Alex is investigating the latest in a series of murders by the 'Family Man', a ruthless killer of families. When a famous author, Thomas Tull, whose method is to insinuate himself into investigations to prove his detection skills superior to the police, asks to be involved, Alex must decide whether to let him in. and the question arises: 'How far would the author go to create his latest best seller?' As both investigations move to their conclusions, killers are unmasked, and Bree makes a link to someone whom Alex and Bree have had cause to fear during previous investigations. This is vintage Patterson and vintage Alex Cross. I would recommend it to all lovers of fast-paced crime fiction.
If you are a fan of Alex Cross with his sidekick John Sampson then this book will not disappoint. Following the normal format and usual characters it is a bit predictable but still very readable and will hold your attention throughout although not exactly a page turner.
It’s unbelievable that this is book 30 in the Alex Cross series and yet the author manages to make it as crisp and fresh as the first. There’s all the usual characters and a cracking storyline that maintains pace throughout. The subject of the storyline is that of a cold killer who wipes out entire families; this is obviously a difficult thing to read about, but, it’s not overly played and this element is interwoven with Alex’s wife, Bree, who is involved in a high fashion investigation that includes high risk.
As you’d expect from this prolific author, there’s twists and turns with characters you care for, Another excellent read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the opportunity to preview.
Well, it’s James Patterson so it’s going to hold your attention from page one. Alex Cross and wife Bree are both back in action on different cases with points of overlap. Cross is helping to solve the Family Murders, a series of murders of whole family. His team are ‘assisted’ by a writer who wants to get uncomfortably close to the case in order to continue his successful series of books on related cases. Bree, amongst other things, is tracking down cases of exploiting young men and women to make money to rescue a failing fashion business. There are frequent surprises but a reassuring ending. This is another star read. I recommend it.
I have to confess this is the first James Patterson novel I've read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. What a grippy and twisty ride it was.
A serial killer is targeting families around Washington, DC, slipping into their homes at night, disabling the alarm systems, and shooting whole families, three generations at a time, in cold blood. Alex Cross is there to investigate but also interested in the crimes is Thomas Tull who writes best selling books about serial killers. Meanwhile Cross's wife, Bree, is off investigating a fashion house which is on dodgy ground, after she has been hired by an anonymous client. Her investigations take her into a murky world where people connected with the case are assassinated .
Several apparently disparate story lines are carefully woven together by the author in this book, the key suspects constantly changing so that as soon as you think you've grasped who is guilty the evidence points to somebody else. The book is high action, fast paced and with short chapters it makes very easy reading. The main characters are likeable and definitely you'd want them on your side. Excellent writing that makes easy reading.
With thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for an arc in return for an honest review.
Alex Cross gets better with age, and after 30 cases is showing no signs of slowing down. Here’s to 30 more!
A killer is targeting families in the DC area. Ruthless murders under the cover of darkness, no family member spared. The media have dubbed him the Family Man killer. Alex Cross and Detective John Samson are working with the FBI to try and catch the killer quickly, before there are more deaths. The renowned true crime writer Thomas Tull claims to have spotted patterns in the Family Man killings, and offers to help on the case, in return for full involvement, so he can write his next blockbuster book. Alex Cross is left wondering how much of Tull’s claims are fact and how much is fiction.
Meanwhile Bree Stone, Cross’s wife, is investigating a fashion industry big name in New York. She has been hired by an anonymous client, with broad parameters on the investigation. She quickly unearths more than expected. As she digs deeper, people connected with the case keep getting killed off. She continues to dig and what she unearths shocks both her and Alex.
This is book 30 in the Alex Cross series, and it is just as gripping as the 29 before it. Even though the Alex Cross books are a series, you can read this book stand alone as with many of the others. However, if you have read the series, this book is like being welcomed back into the fold of a loving family. Mama Nana cooking by the stove, Alex and Bree brainstorming their cases out on the stoop, and the kids playing basketball on the driveway. Samson dropping by for a beer on his way home from work, and for some of Mama Nana’s famous cooking. At the end of the day Cross catches the killer, and makes the world that bit safer. It should be boring, formulaic, repetitive by now. But Alex Cross never disappoints, never fails to entertain, and always keeps you turning the pages, and ends with mysteries leaving you wanting more.
*I received this book from NetGalley for review but all opinions are my own.
What another excellent book in the Alex Cross series. Because you know the main characters already, its just the "guest" ones for this book you need to get used to, so that helps straight away. Storyline wise, you do wonder where the book is going with there being 2 distinct storylines before eventually they cross over and has you hurriedly reading on to find out what is happening next! Some nice twists and turns in the book that you don't see coming. Highly recommend the book!
Dropped everything to read this-you know exactly what you’re getting and where you are with an Alex Cross and this is no different.
The plot is fast paced and not too complicated, the interwoven narratives work well and I just wanted to know what was happening!
Read if you like easy to read crime thrillers.
James Patterson does it again! He never fails to tell the best stories and with a new Alex Cross story, what’s not to love? This is a great holiday gift idea and perfect for fans of thrillers in general not just James Patterson. Sit down to read it and you wont stop until you get to the end - a real unputdownable book.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say James Patterson always delivers. He is a prolific author who knws how to entertain the reader. Recommended.
My first Alex Cross book. But not my last. Great crime thriller, lots of red herrings and quite an intricate plot.
Loved it and ready for another Alex Cross book
Five stars for an immersive, crime thriller.
Another great book by James Patterson, luring you in from page one. I couldn’t put the book down and loved the twists and turns. Did I like the ending. No, because I have to wait for the next book to come out to take me on another journey. He is a brilliant writer and this book fully deserves five stars for great characters and the fast pace.
I have always been convinced that Alex Cross series is the best of James Patterson’s numerous creations—not the least because it is his own and not collaborated with anyone else—and Triple Cross, the thirtieth outing of the Psychologist crime-solver, reinforces my conviction yet again!
Dr. Alex Cross is no stranger to the handiworks of sick serial killers, whom he has been hunting throughout his long, illustrious career both inside and outside of law enforcement, but his latest case is unlike anything he has seen. The killer has committed three perfect crimes in little over a year so far, entering rich households in the DC area with utmost stealth, executing entire families—from the youngest of kids to the eldest of grandparents—in their sleep with cold, dispassionate precision, and making a clean exit as if into thin air. Alex and his friends from the Metro Police Department and the FBI can find nothing to connect the slaughters apart from the otherworldly skill of the perpetrator—whom the media has named ‘the Family Man’—and are almost praying for a miraculous slip-up from the killer. Adding to their frustration are Suzanne Liu and Thomas Tull—the former an editor with a big publishing house until recently and the latter a renowned true-crime author—hurling allegations against each other that they insist are connected to the case. Tull has previously written three bestselling books on serial killings—all lauded for their authentic insider information about the investigations—and wants to be involved in the investigation of the Family Man case, which is going to be the subject of his next. Liu has been Tull’s editor since beginning, and his lover for some time, but has been fired from her job for losing his upcoming book to a rival publisher.
Meanwhile, Bree Stone—Alex’s wife and former Chief of Detectives with the Metro PD, presently working for a private security firm—gets retained by a secretive client to investigate a fashion magnate whose wrongdoings might have resulted in more than one death. As she makes headway in her assignment, people connected to the case start to die violent deaths and Bree begins to feel like a mere tool in the hands of someone powerful, with a much deeper agenda. Never willing to be anybody’s tool, Bree decides to probe the matter on her own and unearths startling things, the most incredible of which is her case’s connection with that of Alex’s.
While husband and wife are fighting to solve their confounding mysteries, Alex’s long-time adversary, known only as ‘M’, makes his presence felt in his own disconcerting manner and his connection, if there is one, to their cases could make it all much more complicated.
Patterson has, over almost three decades, built a stellar cast of characters in this series and all he needs to do is concoct plots and situations to challenge those, which he does supremely well in Triple Cross. It is always a pleasure to reconnect with Alex and his friends and family, including the dream grandmother—Nana mama. The new characters, especially NYPD detective Rosella Salazar and fashion designer Phillip Henry Luster—both part of Bree’s story—are well-crafted too and deserve another appearance or two. As usual, Patterson seasons the thrilling tale with the delightful happenings in Alex’s family, from Nana mama’s delectable dinners to the exploits of Alex’s kids—this time the athletic prowess of his daughter Jannie.
The plot of Triple Cross has the right amount of suspense, mystery and action, but the ending—while entirely satisfactory—feels somewhat tame compared to the previous volume’s high-adrenaline clash set in the wilderness of Montana. In a welcome move, Patterson gives Bree a large share of the action that gets her close to death more than once, and I wish he keeps the trend going. It seems that Patterson has heeded the request of his fans, including me, to resolve the longstanding mystery of ‘M’, and Triple Cross has Alex getting close to the elusive, seemingly omniscient opponent.
Inevitably, there are a few points where the reader needs to suspend disbelief, particularly where the lead couple’s cases intersect. And, probably due to having two cases running simultaneously, the final reveal of the Family Man’s identity and the motive behind the chilling murders was not as impactful as I had expected. However, Patterson makes up for the shortcomings by closing Triple Cross on a nail-biting note with the exciting possibility of a face-off between M and Alex in the oncoming episode. Simple language, short chapters, crisp dialogues and vivid descriptions make Triple Cross a rapid, riveting read, and it is not to be missed by the fans of this splendid series and any other reader looking for all-round entertainment.
I am thankful to Random House UK, Cornerstone, for the e-ARC of Triple Cross, made available to me through NetGalley, in exchange for my unbiased review.
JAMES PATTERSON – TRIPLE CROSS*****
I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
James Patterson is said to be the world’s most popular author with sales in excess of 400 million. I can understand why. He is a master of his craft. Using simple words and phrases that anyone can understand, and hooks at the end of every chapter, the pace rattles along so no sooner have you started to read than you find yourself at the end.
This Alex Cross story concerns a serial killer who targets not individuals but whole families, children included. Hence his ironic nickname The Family man. On his track is Alex, and, in a parallel, sometimes overlapping story, his wife Bree, and famous author of non-fiction books about serial killers, Thomas Tull.
This main story is successfully interwoven with a subplot involving the world of haute couture and murder and the incredibly wealthy and dominant females who run the fashion houses, but who are not quite what they seem.
To write much more about the plot would be to spoil it. Suffice to say its twists and turns and red herrings and clues keep you guessing throughout. For me the abrupt ending was a let-down, unless it is designed to start a craving for a sequel. But even with that criticism, I couldn’t not give it five stars. No one expects literary fiction with the name James Patterson on the cover, just a belting read. And this is what you get.
Like serious happy dance over here when I seen I got to receive the ARC of this incredible book!!!
What is there to say that has never been said before.. not much James Patterson is a true legend! This is the longest ever series I have read and book 30 Triple Cross did not fail my expectations.
You can totally read each book as a stand alone but honestly just read from book 1 you get such a better picture of each of the characters and their families. You literally just feel like one of Nana Mamas kids. Talking of Nana Mama... she's like 90 something... and I was kinda on edge in this book wondering if this was gonna be the one that ya know we said goodbye to her but no way she is still going strong!!!!
As always.. Mr Patterson kept me thoroughly entertained, knee deep in mystery and flipping the pages with his fabulous writing. He always manages to keep things fresh and new and like you're joining the family all over again.
I bloody loved it... now will sit and eagerly await 31 xo
A massive thank you to Netgalley, Random House UK and Mr Patterson himself for making my day with this ARC. [Yes I read it in a day... actually scrap that.. a few hours!!]
Once again this world renowned author has come out with another thrilling book. This is the latest in the Alex Cross series however it still reads well as a standalone.
This time Cross is investigating a serial killer who kills entire families in their homes without leaving any evidence for the police to follow up on. At the same time Cross's wife Bree had been commissioned to carry out her own investigation into business of a top fashion designer which opens up a whole can of worms.
The author expertly brings two high profile investigators together in a family life. The story reflects the family lifestyle where the grown up children lead their own lives and the family matriarch runs the kitchen.
A well constructed book with many twists and turns and thrills all the way through.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
You would think that after so many books written by James Patterson with Alex Cross as the lead character that the series would be stale. This is not the case. A fast moving story with many twists and turns which keeps you engaged from the beginning to the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK for the advance copy of this book.
Book 30 - wowsers! And I think I have actually read the majority - not 100% sure as I started reading them way before book logging and reviewing became a thing in my life. But I have definitely read enough to get the gist of the series arc that continues in this book. No spoilers though...
So, we have a nasty one at work. A killer who targets families. Striking at night, leaving no trace, not even how they got in. Leaving everyone completely flummoxed. We also have an author, one of true crime rather than fiction, who has assisted in cases before, pointing out things that the cops have missed. His interest in this case has been piqued and he is desperate to try and help. But is he more involved than he admits... exactly how does he "find" these new clues... All a bit iffy to Alex Cross...
This is one of my most beloved, long standing series of books. Now we have Bree (Alex's wife) the narrative is often split into what she is doing as well as him. And this book is no exception to that. She is in New York investigating the modelling world.
As well as all that, we take a peek, as usual, into Alex's home life. Boy how his kids are growing up fast. It's always nice to reconnect to them and see what they are up to, what has happened since we last dropped in, and their plans for their futures. It's again nice to see Sampson getting his priorities right with his own family of two. But that said, the onus of the book is firmly on the crimes, as you would expect and want. And they are both interesting and intriguing and confusing and, again everything you'd expect from the series and author.
And the ending, I promised no spoilers but I have to say that excited me, and made me all the more excited for the next book. Job well done on #30, bring on #31...
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Whilst being part of the Alex Cross series, if you've not read any previously, this will not effect your reading of this novel. (But also worth going back to read others in this series).
Told mainly from Alex Cross and his current case, or his wife Bree's investigations. Kept me gripped from the first page until the last, now can't wait for the next in this series.
Another great novel by James Patterson, involving our hero Alex Cross, with so many twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes. Loved this book.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exciting book
alex and samson are up against a killer who murders whole family.... from the parents to the children to the grandparents...all butchered and no rhyme or reason to it....
but also investigating all the murders is a well known author of true crimes and who is writing about these murders who he has named the the family man
bree also has a bit of sleuthing to do when she is hired to investigate a fashion icon and what she uncovers is very disturbing
tensions galore with this book with both cases pitting themselves against their adversaries
wow james patterson hasnt lost it, he seems to be going from strength to strength and with this book being book 30 in the cross series we can only hope that nothing bad happens to the cross family
Another brilliant book in the Alex Cross series.
There’s someone killing entire families in their homes at night, who has been named The Family Man.
Alex and Sampson are on the hunt for this killer and it’s a hard one to solve.
Bree is carrying out an investigation in the top end modelling world and it’s not a pretty sight. People are being killed at parties and it takes Bree a while to piece together why it’s happening.
There’s a link between the two cases which helps them solve them but a revelation at the end blows everything else into the water.
A brilliant crime thriller.
If you’ve not read this series, I highly recommend it.
Thanks to Random House UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I have been reading James Patterson books for many years and my favourite are those with Alex Cross and his partner John Samson.
This is yet another fast paced gripping read, The Family Man killer has been killing entire families in a cold blooded, heartless manner.
A successful author and true crime writer, Thomas Tull had offered his help to Alex with the case, claiming he has spotted patterns, how far though will the writer go to have yet another best seller.
Alex’s Wife Bree is running a different case in New York, but the two cases seem to be connected.
An Alex Cross book never disappoints, and I believe this is book 30 and once again the last page leaves the reader wanting the next book. I am sure all James Patterson fans are like me and love the story to include family time, with delicious home cooked meals by Mama Nana who runs Alex’s home
Many thanks to Net Galley and Random House UK for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. Another 5 star read for James Patterson
