Thank You NetGalley and Hera Books
I just reviewed The Choice by P.D. Viner. #TheChoice #NetGalley
Theo is only the second man Sarah has ever loved yet she kills him, stabs him to death, it’s not her fault but who will believe her? Certainly not the police whose sirens can now be heard. She has to stay free, run, head north to Aberdeen to save herself from prison, back to fifteen years ago when the whole saga begins. Back to a time when she’s not Sarah but Rebecca, back to when a house of cards collapses on her but she’ll fight to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
I’ve never read a PD Viner before but colour me impressed. Yes, it’s OTT but it’s also a highly entertaining rollercoaster thriller that keeps my attention from beginning to end.
I really enjoy the way it’s written, taking us back in time so we can understand the rationale for events in the present. Not that there’s much rationale behind a couple of the characters Sarah/Rebecca encounters as she’s chased the length of England and Scotland. One of these is definitely psychotic and possibly even a bit stereotypical but you are on the edge of your seat wondering what lunacy he’ll unleash next. It’s not a pretty tale as it takes us back to Sarah/Rebecca’s childhood and beyond. It’s violent, there’s fear, hate, obsession and sadness. There’s suspense and tension, at times it’s creepy, weird and strange but it keeps the focus as lives intertwine and connect. I like the dark humour which breaks the taut suspense, there are some original descriptions that sum up dire situations well.
So, yes it’s a bit crazy train at times but it’s also action packed and there’s never a dull moment so I just go happily with the flow! I’ll definitely read more by the author after sampling this one!
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Hera Books for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
The 1st thing I did when I finished this was go online to download everything the author had ever wrote because OMG!!! This is one of those rare books that's more than just a thriller. It's so cleverly written and complex that you absolutely will never see the next twist coming. It's so multilevel and multidimensional that it's just perfect. It absolutely gets so far under your skin that you won't be able to out it down. It's the kind of book that eventually makes it's way into becoming a netflix series. And yeah, it's highly unlikely that all these puzzle pieces and interactions could so very neatly all line up..... whatever! It's fiction, in reality most fictions wouldn't actually happen but enjoy it for the work of art that it is. It starts with a bang and keeps not Pilling the punches until the end. I didn't relate to the characters because.... well, I'd be a bit worried if I did but they are all just so very human that it's hard not to still empathise. It shows that often good people do do bad things and there are reasons but that doesn't take away from them being good people or trying to do what's best for everyone. I just loved it! Especially the fact that noone is just evil because they're evil..... its all so much more complicated than that because life is never that black and white. So yeah, just give it a bash. Probably one kf the best books I've read this year
A really enjoyable read that was well written and compelling with a fast pace and lots of tension. The atmosphere was creepy and I was gripped all the way through. It was twisty and unpredictable too.
P.D. Viner drops you in the middle of the action and does not ease up until the last sentence. At first I felt rushed, that I didn’t get the build to the scene I was dropped into — but truth is, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The suspense was high and adrenaline was pumping from page 1. I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed, like the beat really intensified - but I love a book that keeps me in the lurch and “The Choice” did just that.
A debilitating choice and an amazing book!!!! This is a slow burn that leads to an ultimately well told story. I thought the X position was absolutely needed.
I quite enjoyed reading this book. I liked the quirky style, you do have to take it with a large pinch of salt, but that is okay. It was a busy book, lots going on, and the pace was good. I don't think it will be for everyone, but the fun element sold it for me.
Just finished The Choice by PD Viner. Hooked by the first page. Interesting story about a girl on the run and all going back to one tragedy years ago. Loved that it kept me guessing til the last chapter! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really liked this! It reminded me of The Chain By Adrian McKinty in a way. I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller. I found myself on the edge of my seat to see what was going to happen and how the story would unravel.
Wow, this was action packed! It did not let up for a minute. I think something happened in every single chapter.
Some of the events were a little unbelievable and left me thinking Sarah was the unluckiest person alive. I did like that everything linked to the story, and there was only one timeline.
I cannot decide how I felt about Sarah. Sometimes I rooted for her, others I found her a bit annoying. I’m not sure if this was on purpose, but it was a little bit frustrating.
I also found, on occasion, it wasn’t clear how Sarah had reached her conclusion or decision; it just happened, this left me feeling like I had missed bits.
This was an enjoyable read, and I’d recommend it to friends looking for an action packed read, rather than a psychological thriller.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There were a lot of twists that I didn’t see coming. I loved how everyone’s story interconnected. This would be an excellent book for an assignment on greed, as well as the impacts of poverty. The only thing I would have liked to see was less “chance” interactions with Sarah/Rebecca/Fran and the brothers. If there were instances where she thought she heard their voice or thought she heard someone and hid, but then realized it wasn’t them, I think that would have helped be more suspenseful when it was them. But almost everywhere she went, they showed up so I was able to predict that they would show up somewhere. However, this book kept me engaged and wanting more. I would recommend it!
The Choice was very suspenseful and kept me guessing throughout most of the book. I like a fast paced book so this one was definitely for me. It kept me entertained and I read it rather quickly. The storyline was rather unique. The ending was a bit rushed, but overall this is a solid read.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the ARC. I definitely recommend this to others.
Wow! What an intense read from page one. Author P.D. Viner made it very easy to fly through this book.
There is so much action and thrills that you just can't stop to take a break. You NEED to keep going.
This book is fast paced and will get your adrenaline pumping.
The Choice is just that, all about choices and how the ones we make in our pasts could potentially disrupt our future...
I enjoyed this book as I could not put it down. I liked the way it gripped me and I loved the crazy thrilling ride it took me on.
The Choice starts with action and suspense and does not let up until the very last page. Recommended for those who love a fast-paced extreme-level type of mystery/suspense book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Amazing story really captivated me !!!!will defo read other books by this author first book I've read of them but will be back that's for sure!!!!! Loved every minute of it :)
Fast paced hooks you in. Great book that keeps your attention.

Billed as “a twisty, suspenseful crime thriller that will hook you from the first page”. The book lived up to every word.
The Choice is a classic triller tale with twists and turns that keeps the reader engaged, turning page after page to reach the climax.
Deception, murder, greed and revenge fill the pages.

Why have I never read anything from this author before? This was over the top but I just dived right in and never looked back. It was perfect.
I like the switch in timelines so you can understand where Sarah/Rebecca is coming from. It's like peeking behind the curtain.
This tale is creepy and scary in parts. Suspenseful and tense! I courier get enough.
I will be reading more from this author.
Thanks to netgalley and Hera books for this arc
Rollercoaster…
Running from the past is not always the best choice but when you have your own life hanging in the balance what would you do? Who to believe though in this tension fuelled read with an underlying undercurrent of menace. Rollercoaster of a suspense, packed with action and unpredictable twists and turns, a well crafted cast of characters and a vein of deliciously dark humour.
The Choice is a clever, gripping and unexpected read. Leave it to P.D Viner to set the stage with a plot that initially leaves you with more questions than answers and characters that are inadvertently bound to one another through a series of events. I struggled to keep this book away as life played catch up with me! There are time travel elements, but they are woven beautifully and presented at the correct times to help shed light on a series of unfortunate events. As a reader, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Sarah's circumstances, and her varied emotions of helplessness, grit, acceptance, forgiveness and determination shone through. The blanket of uncertainty and survival is almost smothering, coupled with memorable twists and turns that work exceptionally well for this compelling plot. The ending is mindblowing and well-executed.
I look forward to reading more work from this author.
Thank you, NetGalley and Hera Books, for giving me this ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.
This book starts off fast and builds up speed quickly and adds so many twists that you are never sure what is going to happen next. Within the first few chapters you get sucked in and trying to figure out how Sarah disappeared when Theo is killed. The book then goes back and forth a bit on what happened in Sarah's past to get to where she is now. A lot of times I thought this book was a bit much and had a lot of unbelievable twists, but it was throughly entertaining and one hell of a rollercoaster ride.
I did enjoy how P.D.Viner wrote this book and built up the characters. I really enjoyed how he intertwined the characters and most of them were connected somehow. It reminds me a bit of the butterfly effect and I loved every minute of it. The only characters I thought would have been added to the mix are the two kids Sarah found when she first got away from the killers.
This book is a bit much at times but so worth the read. You want to keep turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next. This is a must read and I look forward to seeing what else this author has written.
A huge thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for this ARC in return for an honest review.
This was a new author for me . I never read anything from this author before but for the most part I really liked this book. I thought the whole story was amazing. I honestly didn’t want this book to end. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with on the next book they write. I usually judge a book from the cover because for me it shows if it’s going to be interesting or not and I loved the book.
Thank you for the opportunity to preview The choice. I had this book on my shelf and picked it up this week. I read it in 2 days. This was what I was looking for. The book is not what it appears. It starts with a murder. And what you think is not what it appears. The entire book is a rollercoaster of bad guys and those who could be bad guys.
It starts with a young woman who has a past and is in the run. The author peels the story like a grape and with each page you learn more about her and why she is in hiding. She’s on a journey to find the truth. And that journey is dangerous. She may dying to find out why her husband is dead, why bad guys want her. and who the hell she really is.
Really good. Very well written and quite scary.

The Choice is the second stand-alone novel by British filmmaker, playwright and author P.D. Viner. Not even an hour after she tells her new boyfriend that she loves him, Sarah has been forced to stab him in the heart. Soon after, covered in blood and locked in a Brighton AirBnB bedroom with his body as the sound of sirens grows louder, she has to figure out how not to go to prison for murder.
From there, she’s chasing a clue to what happened fifteen years earlier, what has had her staying under the radar ever since, while on the run from the police and a murderous pair heavily invested in that same past. With her face on the front page of the tabloids, who can she trust?
Sarah’s journey involves quite a bit of theft: shoes from a charity bin; food from a food bank; cash, goods and services on a stolen debit card; but needs must. She is given help from perhaps surprising quarters. It is difficult to say more without spoilers.
The story is told in a first-person narrative from Sarah’s perspective with occasional flashbacks. It’s probably best to don your disbelief suspenders from the first page and just strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride. True, there are stereotypes, melodramas and plot holes, and some of the backstory revelation is less than subtle, but there’s also plenty of action, some nail-biting tension, quite a few twists and a good helping of dark humour. An entertaining page-turner.

This is an amazing read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked Sarah. This is a new author for me. 5*.
This was a very twisty book. I read it in one sitting I just couldn’t put it down. Such a different story to the usual crime books. I really enjoyed it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Oh my goodness, so gripping. What a rollercoaster of a story. Really enjoyed the story of character Sarah and the compelling plot . Won't give too many spoilers but all I'd say is I couldn't put it down.
Huge thank you for giving me the opportunity of reading this. I look forward to more from PD Viner.
This author creates well-drawn, complex characters, and knows how to build tension and drama that hold readers to the end. With several plot twists it managed to keep me guessing until the end. Even then I was surprised. I’m not easily surprised.
My thanks to Hera Books, the Author, P.D. Viner, as well as NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of The Choice
You must kill the one you love to save your own life…Can you do it?
This story follows Sarah, a woman on the run after being framed for the forced murder of her boyfriend. Sarah has a choice, give in to the demands of her blackmailers or be turned into the police. Sarah knows she can prove her innocence, but at what cost?
The book is a clever, gripping, and an exciting read. The plot initially left me with more questions than answers, which I enjoyed. It is written in dual timelines, helping us understand the rationale for events in the present. As a reader, I couldn't help but feel for our protagonists’ circumstance. Her emotions of helplessness, acceptance, forgiveness, and her determination. The uncertainty of survival is gut wrenching, coupled with many twists and turns that work exceptionally well for this thriller. The ending is mind-blowing and well-executed. It was a highly entertaining rollercoaster thriller that kept my attention from beginning to end. I couldn’t have put the book down even if I had wanted to. I had to find out what happened next! This book is full of suspense and mystery, and I was here for it!
This was my first P.D. Viner book, and I look forward to reading more work from him.
