This book is a cute read about a cat searching for its friend. There isn’t a ton of story here, but that’s okay because early readers will be focused on the beautiful art…and finding little glimpses of Ash the black cat in the background of each scene. I also love any book which reinforces the merit of black cats, since they are historically vilified and left in shelters. Overall, I judge a kid’s book by whether or not I think my niece would like it. This one is a win!

This is a charming and fun book for children 3-5 - a perfect bedtime book. A simple tale about Socks the cat. Socks lives in a city and wants to find his friend Ash. But as his quest develops he gets distracted by the sights and sounds around him. Younger readers can see hints of Ash in the pictures and will have fun spotting him. The illustrations by Tizzy Cottingham are warm and welcoming and add to the delight of the book.- especially the images of the city This book is highly recommended to young readers and storytellers who love to entertain young children. A fun and exciting read .

4.5 "Meowgnificant" stars !!

Thank you to Netgalley, Matador press and the author/illustrator. This was released August 2022.
I am providing my honest review.

Socks is an orange marmalade kitty who enjoys his days relaxing in the sun, sleeping in the shade, playing with his friends in the big park and eating fishies by the sea. All day he is looking for Ash his best buddy. The three to five year old in you has to find Ash in each of the pictures.

The prose is fun and entertaining but the illustrations are an absolute dream. They are a purrrrrfect and would look lovely framed in a kitchen or a child's bedroom. I went through the picture book three or four times absolutely delighted. Yes absolutely delighted !

I wish my oldest niece would get pregnant so that I could buy this book for her little one ! Lol!

Meow is a charming book for the youngest of readers and perfect for a bedtime story.

It is a simple tale of ginger cat Socks looking for his black cat friend Ash in various places.

The illustrations are the star of the show, they look like oil paintings. One particular page had an image of a pigeon which was amazingly lifelike.

Ash asks lots of questions which will provide the opportunity to interact with the young reader.

The final image of the two friends reunited was genuinely heart warming.

Many thanks to the publisher for providing me with a digital ARC to provide an honest review.

I as an adult had fun looking for Ash on every well drawn page. I was also entertained to see the words move around the pages as a cat would.

It is a wonderful book obviously written by a cat lover and will be enjoyed by little cat lovers for sure

Tour the city with Socks as they look for their friend, Ash.

This is such a fun and colorful book. While the words are repetitive, you get many different cityscapes and play seek &find for Ash on most pages. Additionally, you can discuss the actions, practice counting, talk about the colors of the cats, and more.

Would recommend if your child is fond of cats or you’re learning about life in the city.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley and Matador for the ARC of this!

My cat loving kiddos really liked looking for Ash in the background of the illustrations. I felt it was a little simple for their ages (6 and 9) but would be perfect for a preschool picture book! The kitties were lovely.

I particularly enjoyed the art style in this story of a feral cat looking for his playmate while exploring around a town. Lush illustrations make spotting the feline in question challenging enough to be engaging but easy enough for young readers. The repetition of lines creates some nice build-up and tension as the story goes on. I do wish the book had ended on the second-to-last page, or on a different final page simply depicting the cats in the landscape-- the final illustration of them walking off together towards the moon seemed a little cheesy considering the rest of the illustrations feel so naturalistic.

What a charming book!. I really enjoyed hunting for the characters on each page and finding out what Socks did throughout the day. With gorgeous pictures, this would be a fantastic story to share during story time.

Spend a day seeing life through the eyes of Socks, a cat on the prowl for his best pal. The author's artwork is gorgeous, and I love how the text appears in unusual places throughout the book. Kids will love looking for Socks' missing friend, while cat lovers of all ages will enjoy this visual treat.

Socks is an orange Tabby cat who lives in the heart of the city. Every day he thinks about what activities await throughout the day. He enjoys his days relaxing in the sun, sleeping in the shade, playing with his friends in the big park and eating fish by the sea. Today, Socks wants to find his best friend, Ash, in searching all across the city, in parks, cafés, the seaside and more, Ash is nowhere to be found. The fun thing is for the reader or listener to find Ash in each picture. The illustrations are wonderful and that is the best part of the story, at least as far as my grandson was concerned. Combined with the repetition in the text makes it a perfect book for young children. My grandson enjoyed the book and the second time we read it, he listened more to the prose as he had already located Ash. The first time through we spent most of our time looking at and talking about the wonderfully colourful and detailed illustrations. This is a cute story that will engage young children and would be great to use with small groups in Kindergarten or Pre-School.
