Description

Mariel Spark knows not to trust a demon, especially one that wants her soul, but what's a witch to do when he won't leave her side - and she kind of doesn't want him to?

Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon - one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain.

Ozroth the Ruthless is a legend among demons. Powerful and merciless, he drives hard bargains to collect mortal souls. But his reputation has suffered ever since a bargain went awry - if he can strike a deal with Mariel, he will earn back his deadly reputation. Ozroth can't leave Mariel's side until they complete a bargain, which she refuses to do (turns out some humans are attached to their souls).

But the witch is funny. And curvy. And disgustingly yet endearingly cheerful. Becoming awkward roommates quickly escalates when Mariel, terrified to confess the inadvertent summoning to her mother, blurts out that she's dating Ozroth. As Ozroth and Mariel struggle to maintain a fake relationship, real attraction blooms between them. But Ozroth has a limited amount of time to strike the deal, and if Mariel gives up her soul, she'll lose all her emotions - including love - which will only spell disaster for them both.

This book was such fun!! A lively fake date romcom with witches, pixies, demons and lots of spicy magic. Lovely characters and a tongue in the cheek all the way through (even in the hot spicy bits...) Really enjoyable. Recommended.

Wow, I'm blown away. I LOVED this story and will definitely be purchasing a copy when it's published - I'm hoping it'll be picked up by Fairyloot or Illumicrate for a special edition as it deserves it.

The characters in this are sublime, grumpy sunshine tropes are my favourite and this is just *chefs kiss* perfect. Oz is such a darling, his 'soul' is just beautiful.

I loved A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon. I adored all the main characters and it had such a good storyline. I don’t usually read books with witch’s or demon’s in but I fully immersed myself into this story as it was so well written, very romantic, and I loved the idea of the Magic Mariel had. It also carried a nice message about self-worth and the balance of nature.

I loved this book for so many reasons. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes in romance and this book did it so well. It was a quick, easy and fun read that had me laughing out loud and turning pages so fast, I read it in one sitting. It was full of fantastical ccreatures such as pixies, witches and so forth and I loved going on the adventure with them. The spice levels were also really good.
I definitely want to read more by this author

This was an absolute unexpected delight; funny, charming, sexy and captivating. I read it in two sittings, and loved every moment of it.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between Mariel and Ozroth, and his bemused grumpy discovery of feelings was incredibly endearing. I'm so glad we got his POV because it really deepened his character for me. Mariel herself was a pure sunshine heroine, I was a bit frustrated at times with how long it took for her to stand up for herself but it was worth it when it came. I'd have been delighted for even more scenes of her getting her fierce nature witch vibes on.

The whole cast of supporting characters were fun but I'm thrilled that the next book will be Calladia's story because I think my favourite moment of the entire book was her interaction with Astaroth. I do love an unnecessarily violent badass witch and I'll be pre-ordering ASAP based on how much I enjoyed this!

I devoured this story on New Years Eve (how antisocial I know), but it was a very easy, entertaining read. It’s low stakes, romance with a sprinkle of smutt; but also an interesting story! Mariel was born with a prophecy that she would be one of the most powerful witches, and her family couldn’t have been more ecstatic coming from a very proud and powerful blood line. However, that hasn’t quite worked out for Mariel. With the burden of the prophecy and her family always watching for something amazing to happen she can barely get simple spells right … hence why she is summoning chickens .. and on one occasion, a demon.

If you are looking for a story with a grumpy demon, a strong developing FMC, badass friends and fighting for fire salamanders then embrace your inner David Attenborough and lose yourself in this book.

Just the title of this book won me over! When I spotted it on NetGalley, I instantly requested it and started reading as soon as it hit my Kindle. And I was not disappointed one bit!

This book is perfect for lovers of cosy, magical and spicy romance. Playing on the fake dating and enemies to lovers tropes, with seamlessly shifting POVs, spells and nature magic, I can imagine lovers of the Comfy Cosy Witch podcast, Charmed or Zelda eating this up!

I really loved the characters throughout and was rooting for them start to finish. They really got me out of a horrid reading slump.

I will absolutely be purchasing this book when it comes out and I'm so excited that it is part of a thrilogy, so the magic doesn't end here! I'm really excited to see how Sarah's worldbuilding will expand and where she'll take the next two characters.

Omg this book! I was hooked with the first chapter. The constant twists and turns keep you reading and wanting to know more. The main character has very bad self esteem after being constantly put down by her family, finds herself being really bad at magic even though it was prophesied that she would be a great force. She accidentally summons a demon who can't leave until she makes a deal to trade her soul. Safe to say this is the furthest thing she wants. Her beloved forest is also dying and she must find the reason why. She learns that it is demon related but is it her demon causing it? I would absolutely love to hear a happily ever after chapter at the end to find out what happened buy even better, the author has written another book. I will be first on the list for this book when it comes out!!

An amazing book. I was hooked from the very first page. A demon bargaining for souls and a witch who didn't want to bargain? Now that wasn't going to cause a problem was it. Brilliant characters and a storyline that pulls you along so fast that time dissapears.

This book was SO FREAKING GOOD. Honestly I could barely put it down and did not expect any of how it wrapped up. This was such a fun, emotional and interesting ride. The characters, the world and the plot were so fun to see unwind and come together. I’m very much excited to buy the physical copy of this and to read this again asap!

Light hearted fantasy of a "clumsy" witch who accidentally summons a demon and binds him to her.
Queue forced proximity romance.

This was a delight to read. I enjoyed reading how their relationship grew and very much liked the spicy scenes. We all want a possessive, overprotective demon in our lives. It was also good to see that the MC was given time to grow into herself too, becoming more confident and self assured through encouragement from said demon.

Overall definitely recommend this book and I can't wait for the sequel!

This funny, quirky, trope-filled book was so much fun to read. I loved the magical small-town world building, the cast of eccentric characters and the swoony romance at the heart of it all. A proper cosy, comfort read and I was delighted to see that two of my favourite side characters get their own story next - I can’t wait to read it!

This was soo good people.

I requested this book on a whim in NetGalley, because, well just look at that title!!

This was so cute, funny, smart and literally stirred all the feels for me. I laughed out loud multiple times and went to tears in a couple of instances, too. With fake dating and force proximity as main tropes and a few spicy scenes, I recommend this to all my paranormal romance lovers

The banter between our main characters is great, and their chemistry is amazing. Loved to see how they fall in love, supporting each other and becoming great friends in addition to lovers.

Our MMC is a demon that, from a bargain gone... in a different way than expected, has gained a soul, and this soul makes him experience feelings as humans do. It is so fun and interesting seeing Oz experimenting feeling in a way he had never before. And discovering how sentimental and sincere he is.

Mariel, (who, for some reason I've been struggling to read her name correctly, and I've been calling Mirabel and imaging her as the main character of Disney Encanto 🤣 I have literally been fighting my own mind every time to read her name properly and imagine her as described! I managed by the end) our FMC is a witch very powerful but that struggles to perform most spells. She is so kind, quirky, and unsure of herself. Her family is not the most supportive, but despite everything, she is an amazing person and I share her love for nature and plants. She has a random train of thought that I loved to read, because my mind works the same way. I would make weird questions in the middle of a conversation that would look random for most people, but they are not for me. So it wasn't difficult for me to follow her. It was actually easier and more relatable. And everything she ask was already going through my mind.

They live in a very magical and quirky town that was very fun to read about and picture in my mind. There is a great plot about saving the forest and bargains with demons plus, of course, the romance.

I don't want to go into more detail because I would end up making spoilers and I don't want that, so I am just gonna say.

You all need to read this.

This book!! Holy fucking shit. It was funny as hell. I loved the relationship between Oz and Mariel and the journey they take. Especially the way that Oz helps Mariel stand up for herself even though he can't stand her.

I can't wait for book 2!

Despite being prophesied to be the strongest witch in generations, Mariel Spark is far from competent at spellcraft. When she accidentally summons Ozroth the Ruthless, a soul-bargaining demon, both are confused. Ozroth's last soul bound itself to him, and ever since, he's been feeling things. Lots of things. Like how much he wants to kiss the nature-loving witch. But while gaining Mariel's soul would put him back in his master's good grace, it would also strip her of everything he's growing to love about her.

I was desperate to read this book after I read an excerpt in last year's Romance Buzz Books. I'm so happy to say it didn't disappoint. The humour quickly hooked me, but the characters are so well-written that you can't help but feel for Oz and Mariel immediately. Both of them are weighed down by expectation, honour, duty, and guilt. The chemistry between them is top-tier, a mix of grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, with a heap of forced proximity. The intimacy was well-written and plentiful. But there's also a sweetness to their connection. I really loved the way Oz boosted Mariel's self-worth and how she treated his newly discovered feelings with sensitivity. I love a grumpy/sunshine dynamic, and it definitely worked perfectly here. Add in a myriad of magical species, a town crisis, and an overbearing family dynamic with more than a hint of neighbourly rivalry, plus a couple of kickass best friends and you have a delightful paranormal rom-com with real heart. I look forward to reading more from this author.
