This book was a really good book and I personaly felt very connected to the boy, because when I was younger I was really scared of cutting my hair as well, but when I got there it was nice and I felt really happy after, so I think people should start reading this book maybe for their kids, maybe just to know how their kids might feel about going to the salon. Something different about this book is that it is something that almost every kid goes through, since we are always scared of trying different things.
This book is good for children who get anxious about getting their haircut or for someone who is about to get their haircut for the first time. The feelings are written out in bold. The pictures were nice and I think it would keep the attention of children.
There are also some areas for the parents to fill in about their children’s first haircut!
This book was engaging for my preschool aged son who does NOT like getting his hair cut. We enjoyed the rhymes within the text as well as the quality illustrations!
This is a cute quick book for toddlers who may be afraid of getting their haircut whether it’s for the first time or fifth. My kiddo loved getting a haircut but we witnessed many little ones who didn’t. Sharing life events through a toddler’s eyes in books - Beautifully illustrated. #NetGalley
I feel like children can sometimes think like adults - appearance can be important to everyone. Which is why this book is so interesting to me. I loved it, it was very cute and I hope children are able to over come their fear of hair cuts through this adorable illustration.
The illustrations and story are both adorable. The little boy in the book reminds me of how I used to be terrified of having my hair cut as a child and would cry every time I walked into a barbershop haha.
Thank you, BooksGoSocial, for the ARC.
Love the illustrations. The boy and the pup. They are so adorable!!!
The book tells the kids that haircuts are nothing to be afraid of. The mother looks so calming. I do feel kids feel afraid when we adults make them feel afraid about some things which they shouldn’t be.
Lovely art. Lovely story.
?? How is this so cute?! I loved the rhyming and how some words are bigger than the others. The illustrations are absolutely adorable. First-time haircuts are scary for some children, stirring up anxiety, and I can see this book helping some of them. :)
Precious. That is the word that comes to mind when reading this book to a little one. Simply precious. Having raised 2 children and being actively involved in the raising of 3 grandchildren, I can say that I know that the first haircut struggle is real and universal. This book is a great tool in preparing for that first haircut and gives the parent a wonderful way of starting the discussion and easing the fears.
This book is adorable! For someone studying children’s literature, it was an interesting read as I loved seeing how the book uses fiction to put readers at ease and make them feel safe and secure when getting haircuts. For some children this is a very scary time, so having fiction that helps these situations will alleviate the stress and scariness.
Great story for kids nervous about their first haircut. Great illustrations. Written well but also in kid friendly language. And love the certificate at the end for first haircut!
I’m Not Scared No Way by Kimberly Pattinson walks children through getting a haircut to help alleviate anxiety leading up to the event. Kimberly Pattinson is an expert hairdresser who used her firsthand experience of seeing kids scared before getting their hair cut to write this book for children. The book includes a cute certificate where you can add a photo of your child’s first haircut and attach the first lock of cut hair.
There are several things I appreciate about I’m Not Scared No Way. The topic is easily relatable as my five-year-old still gets nervous before having his hair cut. The text on each page ends in a rhyme, and the little boy in the story has his dog featured on many of the pages. Both aspects, in addition to the bright illustrations, will appeal to young children.
My only real complaint with the book is that the illustrations make it look like the boy is dropped off at the salon and gets picked up by his mother afterwards. Given the age of the child and his anxiety about having his hair cut in the first place, it seems unrealistic that the child would be dropped off for the appointment. My son, who is already nervous about haircuts, would be more upset if I didn’t stay there with him. My first reaction was that maybe kids won’t pick up on this from reading the book, but then I also have to remind myself that our children notice and digest more than we sometimes give them credit for.
All in all, this book would be a great resource for parents and children who are embarking on their first hair cut experience or for children like mine, who continue to feel nervous before hair appointments.

I'm Not Scared No Way by Kimberly Pattison
This children's book is one perfect for a child about to get their very first haircut. It's a rhyming tale with colourful illustrations and a few special touches that help make this a really nice keepsake too.
Thank you to the author, publishers and netgalley for my review copy of this book.
This is a cute book that explains what to expect when getting a haircut. The illustrations are cute and the rhyming is engaging.
Great book, that would help any child who is a bit nervous to get their hair cut, hopefully feel a bit more positive about it.
Great illustrations
My little boy has additional needs and having his hair cut terrifies him, so will try reading this to him to see if it helps.
a short, adorable story which tells the tale of a child getting his first haircut! filled with eye-catching, gorgeous illustrations and lovely rhymes, this book is for sure going to be a hit among children! for those who are scared of getting their first haircuts, this is a perfect read for them. it drives the fear of haircuts from a child's mind, and does so beautifully!
A wonderful children's book about a boys first haircut. I was drawn to this book because my 4 year old nephew has been reluctant to get his hair cut. I think this would be a fun book for him.
Wonderful story line by Kimberly Pattison (who is a beautician), beautifully illustrated by Zeynep Dural, published by BooksGoSocial. Thank you very much for the opportunity to review the advance read copy in exchange for an honest review! Publication date is 18 Sept 2022.
Thank you so much Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC!
'I'm Not Scared No Way' is a really lovely story! I don't remember ever being scared of haircuts, sad sure but not afraid and I think it's very thoughtful of Kimberly to write a book that would ease others fears. The illustrations are adorable and the words rhyme nicely. Recommended!
This book is perfect for children who are apprehensive about getting their hair cut.
It’s short and to the point with adorable pictures.
A wonderful book to help your children through a life-changing event - a haircut. It can be stressful and hard for a child to welcome that change and it's okay. I really enjoyed how this book acknowledged the fear the boy had but also showed his bravery - he walked into the salon all by himself.
As well as that, I like how the book has placeholders where you can create a hair-cutting certificate to make the process more fun for your child.
Change is scary and it's valid to be afraid of getting a haircut, especially at a young age.
The illustrations are fun and vibrant, the dog is very cute :)
Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This is so very cute. What a warm and helpful book this could be to young kids. The artwork is just as cute!
First and foremost, I would love to thank NetGalley, the author, and publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this advanced copy. This book is cute especially the art
This is an adorable little book for toddlers and preschoolers who are getting their hair cut and might be a bit apprehensive. It can be rather frightening as they don’t know what to expect. This book is written in simple, sweet rhymes. The illustrations are wonderful. Recommended!
The book is about a little boy who needs a haircut. He says he is not scared of getting one but feels stressed when he thinks about it. He can’t play with his cute doggy because he is too stressed about the impending haircut.
But once he goes to the saloon, he realizes it is not terrifying. Getting a haircut is easy, and he just has to sit straight. He also lives his new hairstyle and is happy about it.
The illustrations are super adorable. I love the color scheme and the kid’s expressions. The doggy is a sweetheart, doing its best to take a bath, roll around, and listen to the kid.
The content is written in rhyming verse (AABB) and is a few lines per page. While it is encouraging, I’d have liked it more if the kid’s mom and the hairdresser had an active dialogue. The mother says there’s no need to fear, but we know kids don’t stop being afraid just like that.
A little word of encouragement from the hairdresser would have the story more endearing (the author is a hairdresser, so I’m sure she’d have assured countless kids and made small talk to ease their fears). There is some interaction after the haircut, but a word before would have also been good.
That said, the book has a certificate and an envelope (this will work better in the physical copy) to save a lock of the kid’s first haircut. That’s rather sweet.
To summarize, I'm Not Scared No Way is a cute little book for kiddos to understand that getting a haircut is not scary and can be a fun thing. Grab it for the illustrations (I like the kid with shaggy hair more than with the haircut, oh well...)
I received an ARC from NetGalley and BooksGoSocial and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I thought that this was a really good book
It was well laid out and it had some great images to bring the book to life
I liked how it shows that some of the things that can be daunting and a bit scary are often really not as bad as you first think
It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended and a great keepsake
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and all options expressed are entirely my own.
Such a cute book. Sometimes the unknown scares children but this book lets them know what to expect from their first haircut and that they have nothing to be scared of. This book serves as a reminder of their first haircut, with a certificate and place to put their first lock of hair. Such a cute keepsake and a perfect gift for those little ones you love.
Review of I'm Not Scared No Way: I'm Getting My Haircut Today by Kimberly Pattison.
This is a short picture book telling the story of a young child who is scared of going to the hair salon for the first time. This is a very easy read, for all children who might fear getting their hair cut. It shows them there is nothing scary and it’s possible to face your fears!
The illustrations are very demonstrative and follow the narration perfectly! The text is written in rhymes, easy to follow, and simple to read. The book hides a small surprise at the end which I think is a brilliant idea!
I give this short book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to all children ready to face their fears and all parent ready to support their kids to do so.
I would have read this book to my brother if it had existed during our childhood! He used to be so deathly afraid of getting his hair cut that he was often mistaken for a girl because of his long locks 😂
This a quick but sweet read that's ideal for kids, even though it left me wanting more. I love the lyrical prose and lush illustrations. It would also definitely make a great gift!
A wonderful children’s story about overcoming fears! Love the fun illustrations and rhyming text which will keep children engaged.
Thank you to NetGalley and Books Go Social for the free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book goes through the emotions a child might go through when getting their first haircut. It's great for a child that might be two or three, but most kids don't remember getting their first haircut. I sure don't remember mine.
Personally, if a child is getting upset about their first haircut beforehand, I think it has more to do with the parents getting upset about it, and the kids feeding off of their parent's emotions. That's not to say that once they get to a hair salon that the noises from hair clippers or seeing scissors come towards their head isn't upsetting because I am sure it is.
What I would've liked to see in the book is more of the actual haircut and the hairdresser showing all the tools to the kid to help them understand what would happen. The aftermath showing that the parents were excited about the haircut was great.
With that being said, having items at the back of the book to keep the child's hair among other things associated with the first haircut is an amazing way to make a memento of one of the child's "firsts".
All in all, I gave I'm Not Scared No Way! by Kimberly Pattinson, Illustrated by Zeynet Dural four out of five stars because it was a super cute book.
This book is so cute! The illustrations are perfect and I love the rhyming. I think it’s a great book to give a child before their haircut or even for stylists to have for when children come in to get their hair cut so they have something fun to help ease the anxiety.
I'm Not Scared No Way! by Kimberly Pattison - 4/5
Getting a haircut can bring up a lot of feelings, and that's exactly what happened with Carson. Carson went through a lot of feelings when it was time for his first haircut. Hearing and seeing those emotions form was a great way to share this story with children who may have experienced those feelings for themselves. I love a great story that has real life situations and how no matter the way we feel it is all normal to go through the emotions.
The illustrations are fun and vibrant. I love that there was a dog throughout the story, it made my children excited to see him and brough some laughs. Great story with a great message about feelings.
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for the ARC.
Adorable book for little ones first haircut! The illustrations are just so cute. A fun rhyming story that will keep your little one engaged and entertained.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This was a cute rhyming story about a boy going to get his first haircut. He's clearly nervous about the experience, but tries to put on a brave face anyway. Kind of a fake it til you make it sort of thing. In the end, he realizes that getting his hair cut wasn't so scary after all, and he really likes his new hairdo. I never realized that getting a first haircut would be a scary event for a child because both of my children were barely one when they got their first cuts. My son's nickname wasn't Fabio for for nothing. But as the author is a long time hairdresser, I'm sure she's seen it all, so I trust she knows what she's talking about.
The illustrations were unfortunately chopped up on my device and hard to view. From what I could see, they were colorful with soft edges and tones, not bold, brash in your face colors. I wish I could say more about them, but I can't.
This is probably a book you wouldn't need to read to your kids several times, but kids can be weird so what do I know. Overall I give it 3.6 out of 5 stars.
Perfectly decent little piece, with a rhyming text from the point of view of a kid who is feeling so brave about getting his hair cut – until the time comes… Colourful, cartoonish design conveys his world well, and the text does what it needs to. I'd sack that hairdresser for what she does, but that's just me. Often a book can be either too intent on fun and less so its purpose, or get so het up on the message it loses all entertainment value. This gets it spot on, so a strong four stars.
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. First and foremost, the dog in the book looked like my dog...and shared the same name! Did that make me cry a little bit? Yes, yes, it did. Am I willing to admit that? Yes, yes, I am.
I also loved this story! I loved that it really captured the essence of that fear of getting your first haircut and how daunting of an experience that can be for kids. Then they get it over with and they think, "THAT'S IT?! OH MY GOD! THAT WAS SO EASY!"
I loved the rhyme scheme. I loved the illustrations. I loved all of it. It was just so tender and sweet!
right off the bat, I was excited to see a book about feelings featuring a young boy. It is very important to me that young children of all genders see people who look like them expressing emotions healthily and learning to deal with them. I am hopeful to see books similar to this that feature children of color as protagonists as well!
Carson is scared to get a haircut. This book in rhyme tells the tale of how he overcame his fear. The book does a great job of telling just what it is like to get a haircut. The illustrations are beautiful especially of his dog Cooper. I would recommend this book before a child gets his first haircut.
GREAT book to help a fearful child process the scariness of a haircut. For little kids, getting their haircut can be extremely intimidating, especially since scissors and buzzing hair trimmers are involved. The little boy walks through his feelings the day before, the day of, during the appointment, and the excitement afterwards when he realizes that the haircut didn’t change him or harm him. I love the facet of him talking with his dog about everything. I would absolutely recommend this adorable book for anyone with a kiddo who is hesitant about the barbershop/salon.
Thank you, NetGalley!
A great book to read with children who are nervous about getting their haircut - playful illustrations and rhymes accompany the short story of a boy going for his first haircut. The certificate at the end is a sweet addition and may be a great extra boost for any kids who are still unsure about the experience. The author knows this field well and the illustrations are sweet and simple.
Thanks to NetGalley and its writer for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
i might say this book teach to your little kids about how to lose being afraid of getting a new haircut. This kiddo was afraid of that. Nevertheless, it's getting better because he really enjoys it.
i enjoy reading this book because i realize when i was a kid, I low-key had this trauma.
