An excellent story in a medical setting- I really enjoyed it. Alison moves to a new post as medical director in a smaller hospital than she previously worked in, to hopefully improve its overall performance. Someone appears to be stalking her, but who is it, is it really her they are after and why?
I really enjoyed this book ,a London Doctor takes on the job of New Medical Director in a seaside hospital and opens a can of worms ! Poor performance ,faulty equipment, missing medical supplies and a very high death rate .Dr Alison Wilson is determined to solve all the problems but a killer is out to stop her but Alison is a fighter and doesn't give up easily .A great medical mystery thriller .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.
I was really looking forward to reading this new book from Annie Payne as the synopsis was very intriguing.
There aren't many medical mystery books out there maybe because of the sheer amount of knowledge and research that is required for the book to be creditable.
I was in the mood to explore this new angle on mystery books and I was not disappointed. The book flows easily and opens your eyes into a world we are all very thankful for but know very little about.
Not to be read if you are about to get into surgery (LOL) as there is a killer on the loose at the hospital!
The journey to the discovery and unveiling of the culprit is a pleasant one and very informative indeed.
A medical thriller, I really enjoyed this book.
Alison Wilson is a doctor who has moved to a new town to get away from her past and take on a new challenge as Medical Officer at a failing hospital. She soon finds this job is not plain sailing, there are issues with staff, with paperwork going missing and equipment failing, and patients who should not be dying, do. There is a killer somewhere in this hospital, Alison needs to find out who before more lives are lost.
Lots of twists and turns in this book, a gripping read, thoroughly recommended.
I kept changing my mind over who was responsible and, I have to admit, I did scroll to the end a few chapters before I finished it as I was impatient to know. This should show how much I was enjoying it. The characters were believable and easy to like/ hate. The plot was good and reminded me why I hate hospitals!!
Excellent, excellent, excellent! I loved the character development, plot, thoroughness, and the twist! This was a wonderful suspense novel.
This book is different and I think that is what made the book stand out.
Set in a hospital Alison takes on the job of Medical Director in a small town. The last one resigned and Alison does everything she can to improve the hospital. Although not everyone is open to her suggestions...
A really good read. A bit slow to get in but here you are getting to know the background, atmosphere and characters. Once I had past that I couldn't stop reading.
Alison takes up the post of medical director to turn around the figures and get the hospital ratings up, not expecting in the quiet seaside town to be confronted with a series of attacks at her new home, car and cat.
Nothing quite added up right? Appointments cancelled, figures changed, emails going missing and reports changed a trip to IT doesn’t help and leaves Alison changing her password daily and reverting back to paper diaries and phone calls and text messages.
Not quite the excitement but still unable to put the book down. Having my own suspicions and being totally wrong made this a quick read.
This was such an interesting and suspenseful book! I never knew I liked medical thrillers but I'm now a fan! Recommend to my fellow thriller lovers!
Who doesnt love a hospital story ! This one gives a lot of insight into how the NHS works and makes a brilliant gripping story from the very first page. I was hooked to the very last page. This would make a fabulous film .
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC
This was quite a fast paced medical thriller where it was difficult to figure out who Alison could trust from the array of characters we were introduced to! All of the people she worked with seemed to have their own reasons for making life as difficult as possible for her. Some just resistant to change, some trying to cover their tracks, there were a lot of people standing in the way of Alison doing what she felt was necessary to improve the fate of her new hospital.
It was fascinating reading all that was being done to her and trying to work out from the vast array of suspects who it could be and if it was just one or maybe even a conspiracy of most of those putting up blocks in her way.
There were many clues and when they all unravelled it did make sense of everything that had happened but it wasn't quite the ending I had guessed at which was fun!
I really enjoyed this read and hope to read more by this author in future.
Alison a consultant takes up a new post as a Medical Director with plans and hopes to turn around an ailing hospital. There is a lot of suspense around her role, the predecessor and strange things happening. A great novel and an easy read which kept me wanting to find out what the outcome would be. I look forward to the author’s next book.
This is my first book from this author. As an ER provider, I understood the medical side of the story and that seemed to add to the suspense and enjoyment.
Alison Wilson, a hospital doctor from a large London hospital moved to a small seaside town as a means of starting over. As the Medical Director at a failing hospital, she had her work cut out for her. Upon arrival, strange things started happening immediately. She often felt like she was being followed, defibrillators were malfunctioning causing unexpected deaths, controlled substances were disappearing, reports were being changed, and scheduled meetings were being cancelled,
The more she investigated into the mysterious happenings, the worse things became. Who was to blame?
This was a fast-paced medical thriller that held my attention cover to cover. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat as there were many twists and turns. Who was the killer? The suspected culprit changed from chapter to chapter.
The characters and plot were well developed. I felt like I was right there with Alison, feeling her fear and frustration, and need to solve the mystery unfolding in her hospital. I enjoyed this book immensely and look forward to reading anything else that Annie writes. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers or mysteries.
I am grateful to Author Annie Payne, Harper Collin Publishers, and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to review this Advanced Reader’s Copy. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.
I read this one very quickly, I couldn’t put it down! I found the hospital setting very realistic and I could very much imagine all of the scenes in my head clearly. I really liked the development of Alison and her character arc throughout and found myself really rooting for her when things get flipped upside down! Whilst I did guess the protagonist slightly ahead of the reveal, this didn’t stop me racing through each chapter just to know what happens next. It was fast paced, gripping, filled with twists and turns and I loved it. Thank you to AVON for the review copy 💛
