Definitely one of my favourite books of the year so far, it had everything in it, definitely one of my favourite authors lately
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Nail Salon is one of the best crime books I have read in a long time. The story grabs you right from the start, with twists and turns you don’t see coming throughout. The story is well written, the characters are engaging and well fleshed out, I couldn’t put it down.
This book really did far exceed my expectations! I don't want to give anything away but from the start, this plot is just so different from any other thriller I've come across. There are no stereotypes or not predictable twists and turns. My jaw was on thr floor more than once and I couldnt read it fast enough to get some kind of explanation! You're never entirely sure what's actually going on and when you think you do know? Well turns out you were wrong. Ots so cleverly written and plotted out. The writing just flows beautifully and the characters are vividly brought to life. You can picture these people so so easily, and you know these places! The reader is completely transported into this world and into these secrets. This is a must read!!
A very well written police procedural interlaced with some gossipy tales from a mail salon where nothing is kept a secret… So good and suspenseful!
This was a winner! Well written charismatic characters, a different plot than usual, a protagonist we seem to like, quick twists and turns make you keep reading and the ending is bizarre and perfect for this story.
Melanie is the owner of a neighborhood nail salon and the confidant of all her customers. She knows who is unfaithful, who has financial problems, who is using drugs…you get the picture. She keeps these secrets and many more personal ones. In The Nail Salon, all these secrets will collide, exposing deep fissures that may never be repaired. When a teenage girl goes missing, DCI Sue Fisher investigates the case, ignoring problems of her own. There are many shocking twists before this case is solved.
I can’t write more without spoilers. I have never read a thriller like this. Buy or borrow The Nail Salon, turn off your phone and settle down in a comfortable chair because you won’t be able to put this book down.I cannot wait to see what Natalie Tambini does next. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and Natalie Tambini for this ARC.
This is such a twisty book you can't see what's going to happen next. I loved the mix of gossipy scenes and police procedural I think it made a good balance of suspense and added to the feeling that you never truly know what is happening until the very end. I also thought the ending was great and fit the story perfectly.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the eARC The Nail Salon.
3.5 stars. I was very pleasantly impressed by this book. The twists and turns kept me engaged throughout the book. I love what the writer did at the end to the main character. My review would have been very different if it didn't end the way it did.
I would suggest only reading this book if you are an open minded and accepting human. I would hate for someone's bigotry to hinder this writers book based on their closeminded beliefs.
I really enjoyed this mystery! I love a suburban housewife mystery and this was just that. I was hooked and surprised at every corner of this story and enjoyed the ride!
Unexpected..
The nail salon - a place to have a manicure and, well, share secrets perhaps. Meanie, owner and nail technician, hears it all and stores it all away - after all, it may be useful one day and her clients seem to tell her everything. Perfectly effortlessly. When a local girl goes missing, secrets may out and when DCI Sue Fisher and team are on the case things may well get complicated. What starts as an easy going, perhaps fluffy read, quickly becomes dark and disturbing in this unexpected suspense with a deftly drawn cast.
Love reading thrillers and this one keeps on the edge of your seat as you don’t know what’s next! Enjoyed the narrative and the story telling.
When perfect worlds are not really perfect.
Another new author to watch out for. What a great read this turned out to be.
Close the curtains, turn everything off, get comfy and get stuck in. Once you start reading this, you really wont want to put it down.
What a superb read, I enjoyed this from start to finish.
Very well written, a fresh, believable story with some great characters. Plenty of twists to keep you guessing and wondering where the story will go next. Mindful of not giving too much of the story away, I will keep this brief. If you like a good, gripping, thrilling read then this needs adding to your TBR pile. Its well worthy of the 5 stars given.
I will certainly be watching for more books by this author and if Mr Amazon is correct, I wont have long to wait as it looks like the author is to publish another book later this year. I can't wait.
A quick easy enjoyable read.
Natalie Tambini (what a name!!) "The Nail Salon" was a great addition to the psychological thriller trope. Great read.
This is a great thriller! Seems so innocuous but creepy and chilling as well! Melinda runs a nail salon and has regular clients who love to gossip. And she eats that right up! But as we all know, appearance is not always reality and beneath the surface there are so many secrets and lies with ALL of the characters! Enough said. Tambini shows the seamy side of life through social media, the dark web, and abusive spouses and victims. Kept me up late into the night as I couldn't put it down!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
This was a really good thriller. Anyone who enjoys B.A. Paris' style of writing, should for sure pick this one up! It had a similar pace and layout. Trigger warning for anyone who is sensitive to child sexual assault, the book focuses heavily on it.
The Nail Salon flips back between perspectives of the killer, who owns a nail salon and knows everyone's dirty secrets and the detectives trying to locate a missing teenager. There are so many links between the busy bodies of the upscale English neighborhood that will keep you turning the pages. The pathway to finding this girl takes so many twists and turns and you really don't know how it is going to go. The big reveal at the end of the book was so shocking I literally yelled WHHAAAATTTT!
I enjoyed the journey The Nail Salon took. You know who the villain is from the very start of the novel. It's not necessarily a mystery you're trying to figure out. You are reading along as the detectives slowly pick up the clues and follow the path to the killer. It's less about the who dunnit and more about the why. The author takes their time to describe details of each of the character's pasts and how it relates to who they are today. I really enjoyed the commentary on how essentially everyone has been a victim at one time or another, and even killers deserve the empathy of others.
The nail salon is the best place to get your nails done, gossip, and share secrets. At least at this nail salon. I was not sure how this would turn out because as you read the book you meet many characters all with problems that they really do not want exposed, and some problems even they do not know exist. The novel switches between characters so well that you can honestly picture everything happening before your eyes. The characters are very well written and mesh well with each other. Some are likable and some not but it works out very well. I had no idea how this was going to end and it blew me away. I was so enthralled and engrossed in this book that I read it in one sitting all night long. It was 4 am when I rad the final sentence and I can say that I want so badly to read more from this author.
5+++ out of 5 stars
Thank you to Netgalley as well as the author/publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
In a world where appearances are everything … you can’t trust anything. In a pristine suburb outside of London, everything and everyone is perfect on the surface. But then one of their own (an innocent teenage girl) goes missing, and DCI Sue Fisher and her team start to investigate the secrets and lies of an interconnected web of bored housewives, cheating husbands, and disaffected teens.
The Nail Salon by Natalie Tambini is a very good book. The story was intense, and I was super surprised by the outcome.
I hope there are more books by this author. I enjoyed her writing style and how she weaved the story together. Five stars for me.

I liked this book, it was had some twists while also incorporating the boring housewife drama. There was a large amount of violence in this was a little hard to read but I was able to finish this. I am not sure this is for everyone because of this, but I think it kept me captivated and wanting to read more.
WooooooooW!
I wasn't really sure what to expect from a book with this title; but it delivered SO MUCH!
I loved how Tambini created a story that begins with goodness overshadowed with bad luck that weaves and winds into full fledged twisted dark behavior. The cast of characters and the way they were intertwined was intriguing and kept me glued to the page.
The cover is perfection!
I will absolutely be reading more from this author.
I received a dARC from the publisher via NetGalley; this is my honest review.
Wow, this wasn't what I was expecting at all but I loved every page.. I was expecting bored, jealous housewives but there were so many layers to this story each containing plot twists that had me reeling.. I could hardly believe that this is the author's first book, it was more than worthy of 5 stars and I will keeping an eager eye out for more from this author
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
Wow what a psychological murder mystery this book is. Based around DCI Sue and DI Mike. They are investigating a missing 15 year old daughter of a city banker in upmarket Surrey.
This tale takes various twist and turns which you don't always see coming.
Needless to say the police eventually solve the mystery.
I really enjoyed this book.
A great dark plot story.
A great book. Kept me guessing all the way through. Was enticing to read
Would recommend it to anyone who wants a new book to read
Went into this book blind, what can I say absolutely brilliant had me quizzing all the way threw this book.
Great plot ,twisty and dark.I have recommended this to all off my friends as I read this in one sitting and that’s when you it’s a great book.cannot wait for this author to write more books .
5 stars from me .
In the Nail Salon, Mel Medford dissects the lives of her customers, forming relationships and gaining useful information to help her in her life outside the salon.
DCI Sue Fisher is on a case tracking down a missing teenager called Anna, and whilst doing so uncovers the secrets from the Nail Salon and a dark web of lies, deceit and child abduction.
This intense story will have you gripped to the pages of the book. There’s more to the missing girl case than meets the eye, and well…within the Nail Salon, everyone has a secret. And who better to tell than the manicurist. This story is well worth the read and I will be definitely looking for more of Natalie Tambini’s DCI Sue Fisher books as it had me guessing and questioning even when I thought I had it sussed.
DCI Sue Fisher is investigating a case where a teenage girl has gone missing, for no apparent reason. She has some issues in her personal life but these don’t take over the main storyline.
Melanie runs a nail salon in a well-to-do area and gets plenty of business. She also gets plenty of gossip as she becomes everyone’s confidante.
I really enjoyed this book and struggled to put it down. Lots of twists and turns kept me gripped and the storyline was excellent, with a surprising ending.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK and One More Chapter for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
If you like a twisty suburban housewife mystery, you'll enjoy The Nail Salon. The world of external perfection is eroding, and past unresolved traumas can have disastrous effects.
All of Melanie's clients have confidence in her as the proprietor of a local nail salon. She is aware of everyone's secrets. DCI Sue Fisher, despite having personal issues, looks into the case of a missing young girl. Before this case is solved, there are a lot of startling turns.
From the beginning of the novel, you know who the antagonist is. It's not necessarily a riddle you're attempting to solve. You're reading along as the investigators progressively piece together the clues and track down the murderer. It's less about who did it and more about why. The author takes their time describing each character's backstory and how it pertains to who they are today. I especially liked the comment about how everyone has been a victim at some point in their lives, and even murderers need to be treated with compassion.
Very nicely written, with a new, convincing plot and some fantastic characters. There are several surprises to keep you wondering what will happen next in the plot.
Nail-biting and unputdownable.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! This book was so captivating one world WOW! It was a fast paced and kept me guessing throughout a perfect book for psychological thrillers fans alike, from the very first page I drawn and couldn’t put the book down it was so good I read it in a day! The characters were likeable also.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed this book and all the plot twists that it presented!
What a truly outstanding read... Gripped me from the first page, through the twists and right to the end..
An excellently written plot that has you standing the usual ideas in this genre on its head. I was truly blown away.
The characters are all written superbly and I was drawn in to each ones lives. They all had deep secrets that definitely throw you many curveballs.i loved this book and highly recommend. 5 stars all the way!
3.5 rounded up
If you live in or near Cobshott in leafy, wealthy Surrey then you might just pop into Melinda‘s nail salon. However, take my advice, don’t let her lend a confidential ear, just discuss whether you want a manicure, French manicure, gel nails, or acrylics. Nail art costs extra as does any loose lipped (plumped obviously) gossipy sharing.
DCI Sue Fisher has a secret it’s hard to hide when the weather is hot like right now. She has a Misper on her hands as teenager Anna Littlejohn – Eaves from Kingston, the posh end. This investigation takes Sue and her partner Mike in directions neither could foresee. The story is principally told by Melinda and Sue.
This definitely requires some suspension of disbelief as it’s fair to say there’s a lot going on in this novel, but it’s definitely entertaining and it does make some valid points. There are numerous examples of toxicity in this novel and this is done well as is the desire to control. It is inevitably disturbing in places, it goes into some very dark corners and there is intensity in the storytelling. Here, we have some seemingly perfect lives but none of us know what goes on behind closed doors. Several of the doors also contain those with delusions of grandeur amongst other things. There are plenty of twists and some of those are good ones, however, the big twist I figure out before the big reveal though luckily it doesn’t spoil any enjoyment.
I’m really glad I’ve read this, it does keep you glued to the storyline if you don’t mind a busy plot. It’s more of a mystery/detective novel in a gossiping neighbourhood tale, although that is crucial to the storyline. A shout out for the two police officers who are both extremely likeable although all the characters are well portrayed.
The cover is excellent.
Please note the publisher has listed several triggers.
With thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins, One More Chapter, for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
