Description
My Blended Roots explores the lives of children born to first-generation immigrant parents or children who simply do not look like "the norm" people often define. Cassie is a young and vibrant young girl who tries to navigate the world of middle school while also dealing with feeling like she doesn't really fit into her multi-cultural background.
Growing up, children often feel alone when they don't fit into any preconceptions other people have. When Cassie's mom introduces her to her fiancé, Cassie quickly learns she is not alone in her feelings, but other individuals have gone through similar experiences and she learns that her appearance and cultural backgrounds are what make her unique and that there is not a "normal." We are all unique and that is what makes us all so special.

This is a must read for children of different cultures or mixed cultures. This beautifully written book answers just about every question the child would have. Its a great teaching book and I loved it. This book in general would answer all question, not for just skin color but also disabilities. I am deaf with a hearing family, I was picked o and bullied until I stood up for myself. Its great that there are totally different people in this world or else the world would be boring.

This is a beautifully written story about a young girl of mixed heritage. Being of mixed heritage & girl navigating her childhood, she has trouble fitting in. After trying to make herself be something she is not, she finally embraces her uniqueness. America is such a melting pot & it’s important that we understand & embrace this diversity. I really enjoyed reading this book & highly recommend it.
The cover grabbed my attention even though it’s a book for children. I was drawn to the character’s t shirt recognizing the Lebanese flag paired with the US one. These two countries are my own nationalities.
The author does a fantastic job explains how the main character navigates her childhood being in different situations where she isn’t Lebanese enough: she doesn’t have the outfit or the right hair. She’s questioned about her background. I can relate as I was always told I looked Italian and Jewish.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy to read for the purpose of this review. Five stars!
