Description
Everybody knows somebody who is a heavy metal fan - fact!
If you are already a fan, our hats off to you. If not, let Philip Kerr be your guide as he takes you back through his life and shows how metal has shaped and enhanced every bit. Diving into Heavy Metal! is a journey of discovery, beginning with Philip as a naive child who found himself transfixed by an incredible sound. There tends to be a misrepresentation of heavy metal fans as weird misfits, and many books and films lampoon the subject. Not so in Philip's book as he invites the reader into the story of a community of fans across the world joined by their love of this extraordinary music.
Many aspects of metal are covered as Philip discovers them on his journey: heavy metal, thrash metal, glam metal and more. He'll show you some of the more major events in music history, take you to a Sabbat gig in Derby, to see Guns N’ Roses in Manchester, to the Clash of the Titans at the Birmingham NEC, and to the artillery barrage otherwise known as Motörhead! He'll also shed light on some of the murkier parts of the scene as he delves into the world of death metal.
Whether you're a long-time fan, a recent initiate or a complete newbie, Diving into Heavy Metal! has something for everyone. And while the narrative bursts with humour and passion, it's also above all an honest look at this music that so many fans centre their lives around and without which, Philip says, he isn't sure where he'd be!

Being someone who love’s heavy-metal, rock ‘n’ roll and other related musical genres I couldn’t wait to re-Diving Into Heavy-Metal by Philip Kerr this is a book full of fun stories with laugh out loud situation throughout and I know this is mainly focused on his journey through his love and education and heavy-metal I don’t want to gloss over what a great narrative Mr. Cerr can spin from his excitement and getting his first guitar to joining The band an undergraduate school to famous rock events no story gets told without a few LOL moments that which obviously Mr. Kerr is very talented at executing. This in my opinion would’ve been interesting without the musing narrative but OMG the way he writes stories makes this whole book so much more than just the average diving in to the subject. I love heavy-metal and now I love Philip cerr obviously a literary and a musical genius. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
So many great anecdotes in this book. The author’s style is really accessible and he puts a funny spin on the stories, making them interesting to anyone - not just metal fans. Really enjoyable.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my honest review.
Being someone who love’s heavy metal, rock ‘n’ roll and other related musical genres I couldn’t wait to read Diving Into Heavy Metal by Philip Kerr. This is a book that is chock-full of fun stories with laugh out loud situations throughout. His love for heavy metal shines through on every page. His stories of how he discovered heavy netal which in turn led to him getting his first guitar and joining a band struck a nostalgic chord and took me back to my own experiences.
I'm glad I found this book. I would recommend this to anyone interested in music, even if you're not a metal fam. I give this a solid five stars.
