Description

"Teagan proves to be an appealing hero with depth and determination – readers will enjoy rooting for her. Ebner gives his characters rich backstories and motivations that are reminiscent of a John le Carre novel.” - Kirkus Reviews

“Ebner has crafted a fast-paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns that make it difficult to recognize fact from fiction.” - San Francisco Book Review

Crime thriller readers of ordinary-people-in-extraordinary-circumstances will enjoy this new series – where espionage and mafia worlds collide with Seattle reporter, Teagan Penn. By award-winning author, Michael Ebner, a Kirkus Reviews ‘Best Books of the Year’ author.

“A reporter confronts terrorists, the mafia and fertility issues in Ebner’s new series starter” (Kirkus Reviews). Teagan is successful in her own right but she’s not the crusader journalist she aspired to be back in college. She needs a personal distraction and decides to make a difference in the world. When a foreign news story shocks her to the core, she takes matters into her own hands and starts a special project. But not everybody will be happy about her plans. When Teagan travels to Paris to deal with a project setback, she wakes up in a luxury hotel in the middle of a terrorist siege. Or is it a planned attack on her life?

Like other survivors from the siege, she is taken to a local police station. Routine questioning turns to intense interrogation by an American–a European Counterterrorism agent–Robert Lexington. She is the only one in custody who has seen Roman in the last ten years. Teagan is persuaded by Lexington to help locate him–a high priority person of interest–and in return she will avoid the courts and military prison back home. What follows is a challenging personal journey for Teagan across Europe and America. She must draw on her experience as a skilled interviewer, improviser and investigator to find the ghost-like Roman for her family's survival.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book a lot. I really liked the characters, too. This story will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to read more and more.

An entertaining, fast paced book with plenty of action throughout. The reluctant heroine main character proved to be very capable in dealing with a variety of complex situations.

I must also add the book had the potential for being a TV Series in the making!

To say this is kind of like The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo meets Gomorrah, still doesn’t do it justice, as there is a third espionage layer with Agent Lexington that really makes this story unique. If you like international crime thrillers that put a spin on the plot and bring depth to their characters then you will enjoy The New Bad Thing. My full review is on Goodreads.

Teagan is a journalist who has had a few setbacks in her life from infertility to a failed marriage. A foreign news story catches her eye and she decides to start a new, special project to help women in need. After a major setback in the project, Teagan travels to Europe to deal with the problem. However, in her luxury hotel is a terrorist attack. Like all other survivors she is taken to a police station and questioned. Teagan's questioning goes beyond this terror attack and she is recruited to help locate a high priority person of interest with ties to her "special project" and in return will not face the courts back in the US. How far will she go to protect her family and her own freedom?

This book was really good. It's a crime thriller with a mix of mafia and terrorist activity. I really liked the personal journey Teagan goes on. Her journey to find Roman shows a lot of personal growth. I enjoyed how it went back and forth between past and present as we learn about Teagan more in depth. The ending was well done and not wrapped up too quick that pieces are missing or questions unanswered.

I would recommend this book. It was a good read with a lot of tough emotions and a good back story. I was lucky enough to read this for free and this is my honest review.

The New Bad Thing by Michael Ebner
Narrated by Braden Wright was an excellent audiobook especially as it's the first book in the new The New Bad Thing series. It had everything with lots of twists and turns that was super fast-paced throughout it was full of action, conspiracy and excitement from the beginning till the end which made it a brilliant book! I loved it!

Absolutely brilliant, I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book. Exceptional plot that takes you in from page one and does not let go. Fabulous characters I am definitely now a huge fan of Teagan and am hoping there will be a much anticipated sequel to this story. If you are looking for plenty of action, suspence, twists and turns and excitement this is the book for you. Would give it more stars if I could, well done My Michael Ebner. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book to be exceptional in a way that other thrillers fall short. While most thrillers vie for the same dramatic flair using screwed up relationships, good cop/bad cop, the main character is constantly fighting between being a bad ass and being the good guy, this didn't fully rely on those aspects to share the story. I appreciate that. Action packed and full of messy shoot out scenes with enough backstory to stand up on. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

The New Bad Thing” is a novel that offers a fresh perspective on the espionage genre. The protagonist, Teagan, is a well-written and realistic character that I could relate to. Her personal triumphs were particularly meaningful to me, given the struggles she faced. I won’t spoil the plot, but I can say that it is fast-paced and engaging, with action scenes that read like a movie. Michael Ebner is an exceptional author, and I’m eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.

An action-packed, fast-paced thrill ride from beginning to end and a read in one sitting type of thriller, The New Bad Thing introduces Michael Ebner as a writer to watch and one seemingly with all the ingredients readily available to create explosive, exciting page-turners. I look forward to reading more from him in the future.

The New Bad Thing is a fast paced ride full of action and I didn't want to put this down. The characters, atmosphere and plot sucked me right in and I was completely engaged and never bored. This is truly a page-turner that anybody interested in thriller, action and espionage will love. I think this will make an amazing series and can't see what will come next.

I didn't realize that Teagan was a hired problem solver in this new series. She wakes up in her Paris hotel to find herself in the middle of a terrorist attack. She learns she is the target. When the attack is over she is taken in for Routine questioning that turns to intense interrogation by an American–a European Counterterrorism agent–Robert Lexington. Not my usual read but I look forward to book two and seeing how Teagan progresses.
