Description
Girls Can is the heart-to-heart that every girl aged three to eight NEEDS to hear. It celebrates that girls can play princesses… or brave knights! Its pages follow powerful and confident young girls as they skateboard, build robots, adventure outdoors, and explore careers as doctors, pilots, farmers, law enforcement, and more.
But the book does so much more than imagine girls in under-represented arenas. Underlying every playful rhyme, and bringing it all home at the end of the book, Girls Can equips and empowers young girls with the mental scripts they need to overcome stereotypes. Emphasizing themes like acceptance that some may not understand them and allowing their actions to speak for themselves, it reassures young girls that they DO have a place in this world and in fact, were born for it.
After years of writing about parenting, Deb Preston makes a powerful debut as she shifts to speak directly to children with her first picture book, Girls Can. Exploring a wide range of interests and bolstering girls' self-esteem with sincerity, humor, and irresistible confidence, you'll want a copy for every young girl in your life.
A Note From the Publisher
Deb wrote Girls Can as an ode to her daughter's confident and unapologetic spirit, in the hopes that girls around the world would join in the fight against stereotypes.

I loved the message in Girls Can! Girls can have a manner of strengths and interests and that isn't determined by their gender. They were created uniquely and with care! The rhyming and lyrical nature of the book lends itself to being easy and fast to read. The illustrations are beautiful and capture the heart of the story. I would recommend this to any parents of girls! And it is definitely a book I hope to add to our library very soon!
What a great book for impressionable young girls. I recommend this book to anyone who has a young girl that they are raising. Deb Preston sends the message to young girls that they can do anything. They can be the best moms or glam their hair, however, they can also run the farm and or be a CEO of the big company. The author talks about how some people are set in their ways of how they think, but girls can help them change their thinking and be whoever they are meant to be! A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for sure! #girlscan #netgalley #netgalleyreads #debpreston #debprestonblog #girlscandoanything #bookstagram #reachforthestars #readwithmslucy #mslucysliteracycorner
Girls Can is a picture book for children with a suggested reading range from age 3- 8 years old. I loved how it was both empowering and encouraging. Its message is clear: Girls can do and be anything they want. The illustrations are beautiful, and the rhyming was clever, smart and lyrical.
The message is a great one for girls and this is a great book for parents to read and share with their children. "Be who you are" is a beautiful message that is not given enough. I love that is it clear that you young girls do not have to follow gender-based stereotypes. That girls can play with dolls or build forts and climb trees. That they can be who they are, follow what dreams they have and play a part in the world.
Acceptance and being yourself are lessons we all need to embrace, live by and instill in our young. Now we need a book for young boys sharing the same message.

Girls Can by Deb Preston 5/5
Girls Can is the perfect children's picture book that shows little kids that girls in fact can do anything they put their minds to. Girls can have ideas and interests that does not fit the stereotypical idea of what a girl likes and can do. Girls have the entire world and all the jobs, style, hobbies at their fingertips and I love when it is displayed in a children's book that they can do anything they want to. The story is rhyming, which helped keep their attention and the illustrations are amazing. While reading my children were shocked at the hobbies, jobs that the girls were doing, and it opened the floor to a discussion about it all. The message in this story is clear and I would recommend this book.
I sat down and read this to my 7 year old daughter and I loved it! The pictures were great and the message in this book is exactly what we need to be telling these young girls! My daughter loved it just as much even had a tear in her eye cause she understood just what it meant. Great great book I'll be looking for a physical copy to have in her collection.
Read with a 9 year old.
We really enjoyed this a lot. I enjoyed the positive message that girls can do anything - even stay at home taking care of children. My only negative is the line about God making them the way they are. If that was left out so it could include everyone, even those who do not believe in God, it would more than likely be a 5 star rating for me.
The 9 year old felt the same way, thinking the line about God should be left out.
