Description
London, 1725. Criminal gangs rule everyday life on the streets, and an organised police force is decades away. The self-proclaimed ‘Thief Taker’, William Dempsey, plays the legal system, prosecuting thieves and manipulating witnesses; all while running a criminal empire of his own.
Battling against the demons of his past and rival gangsters, the Thief Taker fights to maintain control of the streets, aided by his most loyal lieutenant and a prominent Madam. But who can you trust when your empire is built on deceit and betrayal? And how long is it before your enemies discover your weaknesses, and the politicians strike back?
An historical thriller where Peaky Blinders meets Moll Flanders, in early Georgian London.

Something smells rotten in the streets and alleyways of London at the tail-end of the first Hanoverian's reign, a dark and dangerous urban spiderweb where all types of criminal shenanigans coalesced into shallow streams full of corruption, rapacious desires, covetousness, betrayals, human debaucheries and violent deaths, hellish streams that irrigate without impunity the decaying soul of the great Metropolis...
The thief-taker is a breathtaking piece of historical fiction!
Ruthless mobsters and their bloody turf wars are at the center of this captivating and adrenaline-fueled journey into urban violence, an unforgettable voyage into madness, superbly plotted and blessed with a vast and colorful cast of exquisitely drawn characters and enough violent twists and turns to keep you entranced and shaking on the edge of your seat for a few hours! This marvellous literary gift will definitely be among my favorite novels of 2023!
Highly recommended and to be enjoyed without any moderation whatsoever!

My thanks to the Author publisher's and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
Well written and researched atmospheric descriptive with a real feel for time and place. Apparently according to the blurb 'Peaky Blinders' meets 'Moll Flanders' as I am not familiar with either I cannot comment. But I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining character driven story which is gruesome at times but always entertaining.
Completely recommended.
