What a cool idea for a cookbook! If you are a fan of The Princess Bride this cookbook is a must have for you. It is full of cute ideas for special occasions, and also recipes that could easily become weekly favorites. Each chapter is full of little puns that will make you laugh and tie into the movie. I think a lot of the recipes sound so delicious and each one includes a picture for reference. In the back of the book is a section on substitutions for vegan, vegetarian and kosher options, which is such a thoughtful and inclusive feature. Overall a very fun cookbook that would make a great gift!
**I will post my review on the publication date and update this feedback section with the link
Really fun and creative! Perfect for any fans of the princess bride.
I shared some ideas with my mother and best friend, safe to say we have a whole night planned with dinner, drinks and desserts.
Wonderfully artistic cookbook that's original, elegant, and fun. Beautiful staging of food pics (all recipes., so a plus), creative, and delicious. Not for the faint of heart, but perfect for any Princess Bride fan. Made with love.

This cookbook is a must-have for any Princess Bride fan! The recipes are not only delicious but also accurately reflect the ingredients and dishes that are featured in the movie. The recipes are also very easy to follow which makes them the perfect addition to any kitchen.
The book isn't just about recipes for cooking it also includes party planning ideas. So any friend groups who are big fans of the movie could have a night in with some of these recipes cooked up, Princess bride on the TV and maybe if you drink try the drinking games included in the book, sounds like a fantastic group idea.
This would be a wonderful gift for movie lovers with a culinary twist. I hope more recipe books use this format would be such a brilliant and great gift for film fans.
I haven't seen a cookbook like this!! This is definitely more appealing to audiences, than Grandma's cookbook. Fans of The Princess Bride will love this.
I liked the magical-looking font and layout for each recipe. The brief description of each dish and relation to the movie was very helpful, as I haven't watched The Princess Bride in a long time. Overall, these recipes look very fun to try at home, and super fans will be all over this!
It's a wonderful cookbook to go along with a wonderful film! There are some really great recipes featured in this book for a variety of courses. The pictures are beautifully done. There are some simple recipes as well as some that are more complex. The names and information for each food item are very fun and creative. My favorite part of this cookbook is the meal plans at the end of the book, easy planning for a fun date or family night to enjoy some delicious food, and watch a classically loved movie.
I am so excited to try these recipes, this is so fun! I absolutely love The Princess Bride and the opportunity to bring it to life at home is exciting! What a lovely piece of fantasy to embrace.
I've read both this and the official licensed Princess Bride cookbook, and honestly, I think I prefer this one. It's clearly written with a ton of love for the source material, and unlike a lot of pop culture tie-in cookbooks, each recipe actually does connect directly to something in the movie rather than being given a referential title and nothing else. (Buttercup's Perfect Chicken Breasts and The Machine's Excruciating Tourtiere especially made me chuckle.) Each recipe is accompanied by a full-colour illustration, and the author includes helpful tips for cooks as well as "from the pages" inserts of references to the original novel. I'd absolutely recommend this to any fans of the book or the movie.
I love this book and I’m now starving. If you are a fan of the film and even if you are not there are some fun and exciting drinks and food items to make in here to add some sparkle to any occasion and there is a recipe for a corpse reviver which my husband can’t wait to try out.
A very creative cookbook which is great for fans of Princess Bride. The cookbook has quotes from the film as well as good photography of the recipes and a nice layout.
This was a fantastic cookbook, and the Princess Bride puns and references were spot on! The layout and style were excellent and I loves all the filigree. The food and drink photos were vivid and looked delicious. And a huge bonus was including a picture with every single recipe. The instructions seem easy to follow. The vegan, vegetarian, and kosher replacements in the end were a great touch.
This book is the unofficial princess bride cookbook. One of my favorite movies and let me tell you all of this food looks absolutely delicious. I love when people make unofficial cookbooks to my favorite movies or TV shows. I will definitely be telling my friends about this as they love this movie as well and can quote it Word for Word. The cocktails look absolutely delicious as well and one of my favorite names chosen was the.”nearly dead” cocktail. if you need me, I’ll be re-watching this movie.
I really enjoyed reading this! The author’s love of The Princess Bride is very evident throughout the book. While I’m not sure that I would make very many, if any, of the recipes (and I love to cook and bake), just reading this book is fun. It’s perfect for any true Princess Bride fan.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for The Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook coming out April 4, 2023. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The Princess Bride is an iconic and easily quotable movie that has been beloved for generations. From “As You Wish” and “Inconceivable” to “Have Fun Storming the Castle” and “My Name is Inigo Montoya,” The Princess Bride left an everlasting mark on pop culture.
In celebration of the movie’s 35th anniversary in 2022, The Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook is the perfect for fans to fix the dishes and watch the movie for the millionth time.
Some of the iconic recipes include:
* Albino’s Pre-Torture Nourishment
* MLT: Mutton, Lettuce, and Tomato
* Shrieking Eel Pie
* “The Tuna Fish Discrepancy”
* Fezzik’s Restorative Stew
* Four White Horses
* “Mostly Dead” Corpse Reviver
I love cookbooks, especially when they’re related to books and movies. I thought this was a really fun book! The chocolate drink recipe sounds delicious. I also love all the soups. The references to the movie are short but fun. The MLT also sounds delicious.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys movie cookbooks!
Probably the prettiest cookbook I've ever laid my eyes on. Beautiful photos and layout to the recipes and the recipes themselves range from drinks to apps, soups, entrees, and desserts, allowing you to curate your own multicourse Princess Bride dinner. The book includes notes for vegan, vegetarian, and kosher substitutions which is a nice touch and all measurements are by volume and by weight. There are instructions for a drinking game included and each recipe has a short blurb on the background of a dish and its movie tie-in. Movie tie-in books can come off as a bit gimmicky, but this book is a solid cookbook on its own and even more of a treat for fans of the movie.
I’ve really loved the cookbooks that Quarto has published, so I jumped at the chance to read an early copy of this cookbook. I’m also a huge fan of Princess Bride. The Official cookbook came out earlier this year, so I was also curious to see how the books differed.
I'm always impressed with the research involved, the thought put into it, and the creativity of cookbooks based on film/TV/Books. Not only are recipes inspired by the movie, they’re also inspired from the book too.
There are 40 food recipes, and 10 beverage recipes (complete with a drinking game to accompany the movie), separated by section. Every recipe includes beautiful color photo and everything looks delicious. I like the design of the pages that make it look like an actual book. Each recipe includes history and trivia from the book and movie, along with step by step instructions, and tips and pairings. There’s even a page with suggestions on vegan, vegetarian, and Kosher replacements. All recipes are written with both Imperial and Metric measurements.
The names of the recipes are nods to your favorite scenes, characters, and lines, including: Miracle Max’s favorite MLT, Roasted R.O.U.S. (A mac and cheese stuffed meatloaf), Florinese Mawidge Soup, Arancini a la Vizzini, and Twu Wuv Twuffles, to name a few.
The recipes are not basic, so if you’re a beginner, tread lightly. I know my way around the kitchen, and the recipes don’t look difficult, so I feel confident I could make anything in here, but I wouldn’t classify any recipe as “easy”.
The only thing I wish was that the recipes had the approximate time it takes to prep/make, but overall, I really like this cookbook and feel it’s better than the “Official” one for the movie, but I’ll probably still buy both.
I hadn’t heard of Cassandra Reeder prior to this, but now that I know she goes by the Geeky Chef and has a website with other geeky inspired recipes, I’ll have to deep dive into those as well.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley. I voluntarily read an early copy of this cookbook.
I absolutely love The Princess Bride so as soon as I saw this I knew I needed to read it!
It's full of stunning photography and amazing-sounding recipes, whats not to love? The author is so very clearly a lover of this film/book as well and it comes through so well, as does her humour( i couldn't help but giggle at times). I love her little snippets of information about the difference between the two or where she gets the ideas for the recipes from (Andre the giant bringing french delicacies to set after visits home for example).
I had to try at least one recipe out before reviewing( ill try the rest when I buy the book) so I made Fezzicks restorative stew and it was stunning! The recipe was clear and easy to follow and really well laid out.
This book is a must for any fan of The Princess Bride, go buy it now I promise you won't regret it!
This cookbook is the perfect gift for fans of The Princess Bride! It is full of fifty recipes that sound very tasty and I would love to try some of them out since I love cooking and am always looking for delicious new recipes. It was neatly presented and I loved the photos. The recipes look easy to follow and fun to make!
This is a neat little cookbook! I probably won't make any of the recipes, (although I'm really considering the "Battle of the Wits" Brie and Apple Crostini), but this provided a lot of nostalgia.
This book contains recipes for drinks/cocktails ("Vengeful Spaniard Sangria"!), appetizers ("Prepare to Die Fiery Spanish Croquetas"), soups & stews ("Florinese Mawidge Soup"!), Main dishes ("Humperdinck's Crown Roast" or a "Mutton, Lettuce & Tomato"), desserts ("Have Fun Storming the Chastletes" or "Twu Wuv Twuffles"!)
I think I like "Twu Wuv Twuffles" the best 😁
This would be enjoyable for just about any fan of The Princess Bride!
The Princess Bride is one of my favorite novels. The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies. So, when I learned there was an Unofficial Princess Bride Cookbook released in celebration of the movie’s 35th anniversary in 2022, I knew I had to read it, and it was no surprise that I loved every page!
The introduction, which presents The Princess Bride as a story about stories, argues that food is a “great people-uniter”, recognizing the power of foodways to bring families and cultures together. Divided into sections like Drinks and Cocktails (Boooooooze!), Soups and Stews (Are you just ladling around with me or what?), Appetizers and Accompaniments (Do you always begin meals this way?), Main Courses (Prepare to dine!), and Cakes, Pies and Tarts (I’ll eat you both apart! I’ll bake you both together!), this book is designed to make the reader smile. The recipes, which are all accompanied by beautiful full color photos, include “Mostly Dead Corpse Reviver”, “Fezzik’s Restorative Stew”, “Pre-torture Nourishment”, and “Buttercup’s Perfect (Chicken) Breasts.” The author also proposes complete party menus for a “Feast of Insanity” and a “Storming the Castle Banquet”. Every page is full of mouthwatering nostalgia.
In addition to the recipes, the book proposes a drinking game for watching the film, encouraging readers to take a sip every time Westley says “as you wish” or Fezzik rhymes a word. There are also tidbits of information about the book and movie scattered throughout the pages.
Although I didn’t try any of the recipes, I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to all fans of The Princess Bride. This hardcover volume would make a lovely gift for anyone who enjoys the story, and it may even inspire some Princess Bride Costume parties complete with the perfect snacks and drinks. Have fun storming the kitchens!
Thank you to Netgalley for a free copy of the book in exchange for a fair review.
