Advance Praise

This book provides well-researched insight into the importance of self-compassion and a guide for how to achieve it.

Through meditation, positive self affirmations, and goal setting, you can decrease stress and anxiety, eliminate self-criticism, and strengthen the relationships around you.

I appreciate how the author acknowledges that everyone is different and so the guidance provided in this book is flexible and can be adjusted and personalized for each individual.

The author begins by debunking common myths such as self-compassion is only for those struggling or that self-compassion is the same as self-esteem.

With a clear understanding of what is meant by the term self-compassion, the author dives into different exercises you can do to practice mindfulness and meditation, along with mantras to repeat to develop compassion for yourself and for others.

One of my personal favorites is the “Compassionate Body Scan,” as it is one of the many suggested exercises that helps you focus on the present moment and give gratitude to every part of your body. At the end of each chapter the “chapter takeaways” is very helpful to recap the most important lessons learned from each section.

If you are ready to embark on a life changing expedition centered around self-compassion and self-love, this book will inform, inspire and empower you to do so.

This was very informative, inspiring, and helpful! Sometimes self-help books can feel like you are being talked down to, but this book really nailed it in terms of compassion. I felt like I was truly being guided and I can't wait to try out the exercises that were listed out. I can think of a few friends who could definitely use this and I will be recommending it to them.

This book is a valuable tool in developing ways to improve your overall mental well-being and learning to be kinder to yourself.

Self compassion is definitely something I’m lacking and something I need to work on. As I’m currently in treatment for an eating disorder, I thought this book would be perfect for me to try to give myself a break and start repairing my lack of confidence and poor care towards myself.

This book was easily accessible, wasn’t at all preachy, and gave me several tools and resources to work on building a healthier relationship with myself.

I loved the focus on acceptance, rather than trying to change who you are or what you think. I think this is a valuable thing to keep in mind as sometimes changing something isn’t the right way to go about things. Sometimes accepting yourself the way you are is more beneficial than attempting to become someone else.

I like how at the beginning it went over what self compassion is and what it isn’t. I liked the explanations of self-pity and self-indulgence and how they can root you in misery and go against you and your ability to be more compassionate toward yourself.

I liked the takeaways at the end of each chapter, reminding me of what each one had focused on. It was helpful to have those bullet points to reiterate the important things to remember.

There were some useful exercises included, allowing you to put into practice the various methods and steps on your journey.

I found the chapter on setting healthy boundaries particularly helpful. That’s something I struggle to implement and there were some valuable tips on how to achieve it. The same goes for the self-care chapter and for creating your own personal plan for the practice of self care.

Overall, this was an interesting and useful book and I believe it’ll help many people learn ways to be kinder to themselves and ultimately achieve a life they are excited to live. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.

Thank you, Net Gallery, and Amazon for this little book of reminders.
There are just days that negative thoughts creep in and a book like this helps you remember to just accept them and move on. The meditations were helpful.

This book is awesome! The way the author includes inspirational quotes and information is so helpful to those of us struggling with self-compassion & self esteem. It even breaks down myths and helps us see ways to overcome obstacles we have limited ourself with. I really liked the inclusion of chapter takeaways at the end of each, which helped drive the points home & serves as an easy reference point to go back to even after reading to give yourself reminders!

“Self-compassion is the practice of being kind and understanding toward yourself despite your flaws, and even when you make mistakes” Zera Young explains in The Proven Path to Self-Compassion.

Self-compassion is something I struggle with greatly. The voice of my inner critic is a daily constant. This book is a guide for accepting ourselves as we are and loving ourselves unconditionally. We live in a society with unattainable standards. From body to work to relationships, many of us strive for perfection, and when we fall short, the negative thoughts take over.

Young provides us with mindfulness and meditation exercises, affirmations, inner child work, and boundary setting skills. At the end of each chapter are the “chapter takeaways” that give you a quick overview of the important points from the chapter. The goal is to cultivate a daily habit of self-compassion in all areas of life. We can only benefit from being less critical of ourselves.

I usually like to have written exercises. There was much more visualization and meditation in this book than I would prefer. But it is definitely a quick, accessible guide for self-acceptance.

Thanks to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial, and Zera Young for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I'm really glad I was able to get this ebook. Everyone could use a little self-compassion at times.

It was a quick read, especially when I skipped some of the sections I didn't feel a need to read. I liked the chapter on affirmations because I don't tend to see the right affirmation for my needs very often, but I managed to a perfect one here, that I imagine I will use over and again.

I also really liked the chapter titled "Map of Self Compassion" because for me that was the most useful part.

I think it would have worked a lot better as an audiobook rather than as an ebook, especially when it came to the meditation and visualisation excercises.

Self-compassion was a beautiful book on how to give yourself compassion. I think having self-compassion is one of the hardest things to do with ourselves. We are sometimes our worst critics, and this book provided joy and tools we can carry for a lifetime.

"self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give others."

I love how this book goes over what self-compassion is. It also provides some benefits that occur when you give yourself self-compassion. I also enjoyed how after each chapter, it provided takeaways so we could reflect on what we read. It also has exercises for us to do in some chapters so we can practice what it means to have compassion for ourselves. I would recommend this book to every human who has a heartbeat. It is a good book on how to reflect and practice self love/self compassion with ourselves. Thank you, net gallery, for the opportunity to read this book.
