Description
Veronica Priddy was only trying to do a good thing by reuniting a grandson with his dying grandfather. However, the grandson turned out to be nothing like what she'd hoped. Instead of a joyful reunion, an even deeper wedge is driven between the two men.
In the midst of saying goodbye to her friend, she meets a man who could be her everything, until he walks away leaving her with more questions than answers. Although things didn’t go according to plan, she did all she could and resolves to soothe her wounded heart and fulfill her dreams of a family on her own despite losing out on love once again.
Takoda Nomee knew he'd be hurting Veronica by walking away. He adores her, but he had no choice. He can only do what needs to be done while hoping someday to return to her and get the chance to win her heart once and for all.
But you know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished and Veronica becomes the target of an unhinged man who feels he's been wronged and is intent on vengeance. Will they be able to join together again before everything burns to the ground?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kit McKenna’s The Heart That Returns stars Veronica Priddy (who goes by Roni) and Takoda. This a sweet romance with a little steam.
Roni is a vet who lives in Ada, Oklahoma and has a huge heart. She is a member of the Chickasaw nation and helps care for an elder whose grandson has seemingly abandoned him. As the elder nears his death, she asks the grandson to return. The grandson Rowdy is a famous musician who causes all sorts of trouble in his wake and has to be babysat by Takoda. As Rowdy and Takoda come to Oklahoma to spend time with the grandfather in his last days, Takoda and Roni notice an attraction. However, after the grandfather passes away, Rowdy and Takoda leave town… leaving Roni with lots of questions.
I liked the book. Roni is a strong, independent woman who knows what she wants. I loved how well developed her character was. I enjoyed the other main characters as well as how the Chickasaw culture is featured prominently in the book.
Thank you to the author, BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for an ebook in exchange for my review.
Engaging story line and amazing plot! Would definitely recommend for people who loves romance with some spice !
All I can say is WOW!!! 😱😱
This book went above and beyond my expectations! Everything from the culture, to the family dynamic , I was above invested in this book! Not having a chance to learn about my own native culture I felt like I was in the book enjoying every moment and learning curve! This book had me crying in some points , then other points I was like wait … what!
One of the best features of this book and story is that it’s not over bearing. It’s not like your general same story, and exaggerated scenes. I was left expecting one thing but then something else happens! It has some spice to it, yet it wasn’t chapters on chapter about it ! Takoda is such a different character I just loved him! And the culture, just wow I REALLY liked this book!
The only thing I had issues with was the prologue, it just felt very fast and you were being thrown a lot of points very quick ! Almost like watching a movie on fast forward, but once you can get over that it was great!
I received an ARC copy from Netgalley for an honest review.
This book is my first from Kit McKenna. I liked it very much. There are all the expected parts of a good romance as in my tastes and likes.
The pace at the beginning of the story was a little awkward for me but I came to like it eventually.
Roni is a strong and responsible women you’re going to like instantly.. Though he’s not acting and talking much, I liked Takoda as much.
