I think this is probably the easiest five stars of 2023 so far! Can I breathe now? Wow, wow, wow.
At just after 7.30 in the morning Christine Hardwicke, her daughter Galen and son Tom leave their Essex home bound for Chanonry Point on Scotland’s Black Isle to hopefully see the dolphins which is a long held wish of Galens. Unfortunately for them a young couple, Missy and Fox are also heading their way, both with a burning desire for infamy. Giving chase from Midtown-on-Sea are DC Saul Anguish, Blue aka Dr Clover March and two other officers. The paths of all will cross in the most dramatic of ways.
Fiona Cummins is at the top of her game. I’ve given all her books five stars but this one is something else. It starts with an absolutely jaw dropping, heartbreaker of a scenario which has you uttering the first of many wows or the odd naughty. This is one breathtaking race against time, it’s a scorcher of a thriller and yes, it’s dark if not appalling on occasions but despite the ensuing havoc the author places the characters that Fox and Missy encounter at the centre so you feel the emotion, empathy and gut wrenching sympathy. This is especially true of the Hardwicke family and I’m drawn to Galen who has so much to bear in her young life. The pace is warp speed and the tension at times is positively nail biting but the author gives much needed breathing space by switching attention elsewhere.
The characterisation is exemplary, even those who only grace the pages fleetingly are deftly portrayed. DC Saul Anguish is a constant source of fascination, he has also appeared in The Collector and Into the Dark but this works perfectly well as a stand-alone. He is a darkly light conundrum but you can’t deny his bravery with he and Blue being two of the best characters in this genre. As for Missy and Fox, I’ll say little except their portrayal is excellent.
This is a dark thriller that is incredibly well written. It’s full of action packed drama from beginning to end and I don’t mind admitting to eyes brimming with tears on occasion especially at the end. This is a stunner of a book, you gasp, inhale with shock, you smile at Tom, admire the guts of Galen and others at their courage. I think Fiona Cummins has even outdone herself here in this multilayered clever novel that is a one sitting read.
Highly recommended, obviously! Also recommend the dolphins at Chanonry Point, wrap up warm!
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Pan McMillan for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
Before I start this review properly, I just want to say, pre-order this book straight away. Just do it!
I already know this will be one of my favourites reads of 2023, easily 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
All Of Us Are Broken, starts dramatically in a hostage situation. Christine Hardwicke, a mother, is being held hostage with her two children. The hostage takers, Missy and Fox, give her an impossible ultimatum, choose which child should die.
After the dramatic opening, the book visits two other seemingly separate stories. As the first part of the book reveals itself, the link between these characters, and their situations, becomes apparent.
Very often when reviewing, I write notes as I read. In this instance, there was an empty page staring at me. This is far from an insult, it’s a huge compliment in fact. I couldn’t drag myself from the story, even just to jot down a few words, I was too engrossed. I can’t praise this extremely well written book, or the author, Fiona Cummins, highly enough. It is so dark, as you would expect, but with a lot of heart too.
The narrative is fast paced, it doesn’t hang around, it canters along at a pace. My reading matched the urgency of the hunt for Missy and Fox. The engrossing story made the pages turn easily and quickly. I inhaled it from cover to cover in just over 24 hours.
I really enjoyed meeting Saul and Blue again, their complex personalities making a far from easy relationship. Their characters are both imperfect, intriguing and so well developed, as are all of the characters are in this book.
There is so much more to All Of Us Are Broken than the usual thriller/police procedural novel. So many other little side stories of interest, heart breaking sub plots that stop you in your tracks. None of which I can mention, for fear of spoiling other’s reading pleasure.
This book is more than: these are the good guys, here are the bad guys, and this is the plot. If you are looking to read just one book in this genre this year, make it this one, as you really won’t regret it.
That ending. What can I say? 😞 At the 95% stage I had no idea of what was coming. By the time I reached the last page, there were tears streaming down my face. I think I’m a little broken now too.
Did I mention how much I loved this book?
This is the first book by Fiona Cummins I have read and I will definitely be back for more. The plot is fast paced and has twists and turns in it. A real rollercoaster of a read. The characters are well developed and engaging and the storyline is interesting with some emotional ups and downs. Best book of 2023 so far!
All hail queen Fiona, the ultimate ladykiller author and an absolutely phenomenal author. This is a lady who delivers and gets better with every book. I don’t think any written review will do this book justice.
Saul is back and for all of us fans of Mrs C, this is a welcome return. This time he is involved in a darker, shocking and unpredictable situation which will keep you immersed in the pages.
Missy starts off a seemingly normal day, heading to school for a day of teaching littlies and this is where her story begins to unravel. In the chaos of the school environment, there is a jaw dropping situation that unfolds which really begins her spiralling journey.
Meanwhile, the Hardwicke family are off on a trip. This sees them visit grandparents, overcome some difficulties but end up in the face of danger. The family dynamics and difficulties have been portrayed perfectly and the reader is really able to feel for them. They are a very real family, with relatable experiences and issues.
The plot moves seamlessly between the family and Missy. This book will really take us on a trip to the dark side and I have loved every single moment. Despite her actions, I’ve really liked Missy and her actions have not failed to shock me on each event. She’s been fascinating from the very decision to leave her workplace.
This is a masterpiece, it truly is a phenomenal read. I have devoured page after page in just one sitting. However, I have to say that this is because I have been both unwilling and unable to put this down. I have been captivated and caught up on this book. All of Us Are Broken will transport readers and make you feel as though this is on screen playing out in front of you. That’s how brilliant this author is at painting the scenes for her readers.
This is perfectly paced, captivating and addictive. It’s easy to become lost in the pages. I’ve loved every page of this book. I am definitely hoping there are more plans for Saul. There are a few other cases I’d love to see him battle but this one definitely delivered.
It’s no secret, Fiona is my queen. Definitely one of my favourite authors of all time. This latest book is testament to why she is just so amazing. I’ve read all of Fiona’s books and this is a favourite. Would it be too soon to say, I’ve found my book of the year?
No written review or star rating will do this book justice. This is a phenomenal masterpiece and is worthy of all the praise, awards and is most definitely screen worthy.
Anyone who doesn’t get this on the TBR is most definitely missing out.
I have read and enjoyed other books by this author. Once again she does not disappoint. All of us are broken is essentially a modern day Bonnie and Clyde tale. However every character in the book has their flaws as of course do all humans and these flaws are used beautifully by the author within the narrative. The story initially catches the reader's attention by beginning with a hostage situation then returns to show how the situation built to this climax. There are some superb unexpected twists and a great ending. What more can I say!
Thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and Pan Publishing for the ARC of this book.
When I started reading I wasn’t sure at all about the book or the characters at all. Could not see how any of them were going to make a decent read. I didn’t like sone of them at all. How wrong I was!!! The end of this book is absolutely amazing. A totally different look at police procedures in fact I felt a totally different look at life itself.
Well done to the author, looking forward to more of your books.
ALL OF US ARE BROKEN
WOW Fiona Cummins, just wow !!
This review is just not going to do this superb novel justice.
The prologue does its job and gets you hooked from the start with the malice seeping through the pages.
The descriptions were so vivid throughout this novel, it was as though I was watching everything play out on a television screen.
Complementing these fantastic descriptive pros was the exquisitely crafted characters.
This multilayered book keeps you hooked to peel back these layers and revealing those twists that you are unable to see coming.
Highly recommended.
Thank you #Netgalley, publishers Pan MacMillan and of course the author Fiona Cummins, for my eArc copy of #AllOfUsAreBroken in exchange for my honest review. And I was absolutely blown away by it !!
I love this author and have read everything this very talented author has written. For me this is the best book she have ever written. It starts off with a hostage situation and this is only the beginning of one hell of a read. This read had me glued to my seat and tapping my kindle like a demented woodpecker. I could not put this book down. Original plot, great characters and a storyline that kept me reading late into the night. I had to know the truth!!! A first rate police procedural, full of so many twists and turns that had me constantly holding my breath and continuously changing my mind. A real tour de force of of a crime thriller and a must read for all readers of this genre.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.
What a read, dark troubling, brutal, thought-provoking but a brilliant read.
Missy and Fox how on earth did that happen? To bring together all the victims with their stories and the villains was a masterstroke in writing.
Knowing all the areas mentioned in the book very well it was interesting to see that the descriptions were accurate, precise and well-documented. One of the books of 2023 so far for me.
Well done Fiona Cummings author to follow in her writing.
Wonderful! Absolutely loved this book. It is dark, twisty and very violent.
The first few pages of the story grab your attention and it never wavers. Faced with a Sophie’s Choice, what would any mother do?
Missy and Fox are on the run. Conducting a killing spree on the way, their actions are vile and evil. The reader gets to know their backstory, and realise that in some cases, no amount of nurturing would change the outcome. Missy has been used and abused by those closest to her, with a mother who lied to keep her from her natural father, instead putting her in the path of a predator. Fox is pure evil, but his charisma and flair with Missy shows her what she has been missing, love and affection.
With Blue and Saul thrown into the mix, this is a fantastic read, with every action explored and accounted for, brilliant!
The Hardwicke family are another running theme throughout the book, and their story is both uplifting and tremendously sad, a real tear jerker, hankies at the ready!
To only give this book 5* is very mean, it really should be commensurate with the body count! It surpasses all expectations and they were very high. Read in one go, a complete rollercoaster of a read.
Thank you NetGalley.
This is one of the darkest, most disturbing, and most powerful books I’ve read for a while. Just when you think things can’t get worse they do! The book opens with a gut-wrenching prologue; Christine Hardwicke and her children Galen and Tom are at the mercy of killers Missy and Fox, a modern day Bonnie and Clyde. Christine is given a harrowing ultimatum. The police are surrounding the building. Who will get out alive? I wasn’t aware that this was a follow up to another book but it read well as a stand-alone. The writing and the storyline are so good, it’s fast paced and thrilling but beware some murder scenes are graphic and could be upsetting for some.
Briefly, after her husband leaves them Christine decides to take the children to Scotland on holiday but it turns out to be anything but. DC Saul Anguish, Dr Clover March ‘Blue’ and two other officers are after Missy and Fox following the trail of dead bodies. Then all these group converge …
This author does characters so well. Saul is such a dark character, I’m off to read the previous book now as I need to know more. The plot is full of twists and turns and there are some shocking secrets revealed. So well plotted there seems to be something happening on every page, I was totally engrossed in this shockingly dreadful, achingly sad, violently evil story. And just when I thought it was all over a reveal that caused a tear or two. Wonderful.
Do not bother keeping a count of the bodies!
Missy and Fox are both from very disadvantaged backgrounds decide that life is so bad that they are going to go on a killing spree and Missy would become famous at last.
I thought that i would feel uncomfortable reading about the killings with neither Missy or Fox showing any remorse but somehow i did not.
Into the mix falls the Chadwicke family who have plenty of their own problems and are heading north to Scotland from Essex for a holiday.
The third party are the police focusing on DC Saul Anguish and girlfriend Blue.
Everybody heads north to Perthshire where their paths finally meet.
Saul and Blue both have troubled pasts and we slowly find out about them.
It is easiest to warm to the Chadwicke family with 13 year old Galen fighting against all the injustices in her life.
Plenty of action and the pace never drops so i was hooked and read the book in three days.
The climax at the remote lodge was scary and realistic.
I will look out for other books by this author.
With thanks to NetGalley and Pan McMillan for the arc.
Absolutely love Fiona’s writing and this book did not disappoint.
A couple on the run and a killing spree bump into a mother and her 2 children on holiday at a hotel in the highlands of Scotland and after killing most of the other guests and staff force the mother into making an impossible decision.
It’s up to detective Saul Anguish to stop this modern day Bonnie and Clyde and he puts himself in the firing line when he tries. Who will live and who will die?
I loved this book and the way the author brings in details about Saul’s past which will be recognisable to people who have read her previous novels Rattle and The collector.
THE best violent, tragic and sad book I have read this years! 'Totally unputdownable' with a smooth introduction to a modern day Bonnie and Clyde.
However, the quality of the descriptive prose was yet another reason to give this book a top review. Ms Cummins drew me in from the start.
One of her characters, DC Saul Anguish is back, and is part of the police team trying to follow the violence. There is also the Hardwicke family who are involved = but no more spoilers!
Thanks to Net Galley and Pan Macmillan for the chance to read and review.
This is my first Fiona Cummins book but it definitely won't be my last. Wow, what a fantastic page turner.
The characters of Missy and Fox, a modern day Bonnie and Clyde, are pure evil. Travelling north they leave a trail of horror in their wake. Detective Saul Anguish and his team are in pursuit, hoping to stop the pair before more meaningless deaths occur.
I especially loved the characters of the Hardwicke family. They had suffered such pain already and when their paths crossed with Missy and Fox it was almost to much to bear.
The author took the time to give each victim a story no matter how briefly we knew them. It gave much more gravitas to their deaths and gave an incite into how cold blooded these killers really were.
I was intrigued by Saul and Blue's story. There is a book before this that I haven't read and will do so to get the full picture. This doesn't detract from this book though and it's easy to read as a stand alone novel. I will definitely be reading more Fiona Cummins books. Thank you Netgalley and Pan macmillan for the ARC.
Wow - this was a rollercoaster of a read. I hadn't read the blurb and I had no idea what I was in for. That's probably the best way, so I don't want to say too much in a review. The story opens in devastating fashion with a massive cliffhanger and continues to rack up the tension, until we get back to that opening cliffhanger to find out what happened. The tension is almost unbearable at times - I had to take breaks before I could continue reading.
It's a third (?) outing for unlikelily-named DC Saul Anguish and narcoleptic forensic linguist Dr Clover March, known to Saul as "Blue". Because she has blue hair. These two are probably my least favourite part of the story - they're a bit too weird, their lives are weird, I didn't care about their relationship and I never felt I got a grip on Clover's personality - although I do appreciate Saul's drive to protect the innocent. I've read the preceding book, Into the Dark, but I suspect there's some further backstory that I need to catch up on.
I did care a lot about Christine Hardwicke and her two children, Galen and Tom, and very much wanted things to work out for them, unlikely though that seemed.
It's a rollercoaster ride, as I said, but one that ultimately raises some interesting questions. When is killing justifiable, or at least defensible? What turns a person into a monster?
I had to read this in one sitting because it is quite literally unputdownable.
This is the second Saul Anguish book, and although it can be read as a stand-alone, I would suggest reading Into The Dark to understand Saul.
Melissa is a primary school teacher. She heads into school after celebrating her engagement the previous evening. The class is disruptive, and she has no control over them. There is a bad accident, and Melissa walks out.
She phones Fox, who is a bad man. They go on the run, causing chaos and destruction.
Christine has taken her children Galen, who is thirteen and eight year old Tom out of school. They are heading to Chanonry Point in Scotland to see the dolphins.
They are on a collision course with Missy and Fox with unimaginable consequences.
What a rollercoaster of a ride this was.
I was absolutely gripped.
This is quite a brutal and violent book, but Cummins writing just takes your breath away.
Tissues needed.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC in return for an honest review.
All of us are broken by Fiona Cummins is an emotional rollercoaster of a storyline, with many twists and turns and dead bodies mounting by the page.
I didn’t realise even with a book title of “All of us are broken” that it would come to mean nearly every character in the story. I have to say that the ending left me with tears streaming down my face, which is a very rare event .
The book was well written, with deeply flawed antagonists and deeply flawed protagonists and many unforeseen events and the ending was unexpected and so very sad.
Highly recommended
This is the next instalment featuring Detective Saul Anguish and this is a complete page-turner that I couldn't put down. I loved that this doesn't hold back from the raw and gritty reality of crime and immerses you into the story.
All of Us Are Broken is told from three main POV's and it's incredibly interesting seeing into the different characters heads especially as the action ramps up and the story becomes more tense. I think that was incredibly skilfully written and an amazing police procedural. Overall I really recommend and without spoiling anything there are loads of shocking twists to hook you in and keep you guessing.
From the first page you’re confronted with the ultimate dilemma for a parent. Then you’re taken on a rollercoaster ride of murder and madness akin to Bonnie and Clyde. It’s an absolute must read. My favourite so far this Summer.
I’ve read a number of Fiona Cummins books and she is the master of creating the most complex of characters. Every novel is a gripping page turner. This book though is my favourite by far.
Buy it.
This is dark, very dark, but an absolutely compelling read! Fast paced, gritty and filled with suspense, it's a rollercoaster from start to finish. One of the best psychological thrillers I have read, with great characterisation, I absolutely loved young Tom, and very clever plotting. An easy 5* from me, with grateful thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for my ARC.
Wow Fiona Cummins has done it again with another explosive thriller. The author never disappoints.
Christine Hardwicke is a single mother of two after her husband dying from a degenerative disease several months earlier. Her daughter Galen always wanted to see the dolphins at Chanonry point in Scotland. So, the head off from their Essex home with younger brother Tom. As a surprise Christine has booked them into a Loch that is shown on Galen’s favourite Tv show. The Loch is in a relaxing remote spot and after the long drive Christine can’t wait to get there. Little do they know what they are going to encounter when they get there.
Missy Fox and Daniel Lloyd are on the run leaving bodies in their wake and they are travelling to Scotland. Detective Saul Anguish is leading the team to find the ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ duo before more bodies pile up. But little known to the rest of his team he also has another agenda.
But when Christine and her children and Missy Fox and Daniel Lloyd each world collides. Will Saul Anguish get there before it is too late?
Thank you, Pan Macmillan, for a copy of Fiona Cummins latest offering. This must be one of my favourite books this year. The is a brilliantly fast paced thriller. It has a great tense; plot and it will shock you in places. I love that the author doesn’t hold anything back. It is all or nothing. If you only buy one book this year, I highly recommend this one. 5 stars from me.
I was so excited to start this book and once more be in the wonderful company of DC Saul Anguish and Clover (Blue) March two characters that I really do love and it was amazing !
This book I think is the best one I have read by this author it just had so much to give and whilst being a very gritty thriller it also has a much deeper side and I had tears in my eyes as I was reading the conclusion.
The main theme is a Bonnie and Clyde type couple who go on an indiscriminate killing spree that has no bounds, no one is safe, innocent victims lose their lives and it’s one heck of a gruesome non stop thrill of a journey right to the end
The writing is superb and Fiona Cummins has excelled herself in this latest 5 star thriller, I was sorry when the book ended as I loved everything about it and can’t wait for more from her, she is one of my favourite authors and never fails to have me glued to my kindle , long may the books continue and many thanks.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for giving me this ARC.
Well I was hooked from start to finish. Modern day Bonnie and Clyde - well they thought so!
The tension with Saul and Blue is going strong and they are great characters.
I felt so sad for the main character family - not giving anything away - and I cried at the end!
This was very different from Fiona's other books, but extremely well written with a really good storyline.
Please keep writing I need more from you.
Highly recommended.
Wow, this was incredible! Thirteen year old Galen and her family travel to Scotland to see the dolphins, meanwhile DC Saul Anguish is on the tail of a dangerous couple. Will the family trip be cut short?
I felt so many emotions reading this and shed a few tears. I fell in love with Fiona Cummins’ writing when reading Rattle years ago and I can safely say this does not disappoint - I can probably go as far as saying it is one of the best I have read! The author really knows how to set a breathtaking atmosphere and the vivid descriptions make the scenes come to life. The story itself is very dark, well paced and so emotional. Some parts are shocking and you are kept on your toes through out; the suspense never breaking. I love how the characters are developed, you really find yourself getting in to their heads and rooting for some. I especially like DC Saul Anguish, he is such an interesting character. This is an easy 5 stars, one of my favourite books of the year and I can’t wait to tell everyone about it! Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this copy in return for an honest review.
A fantastic read! This is a book you won't want to put down. Some characters are familiar - it's great to be back with Saul and Blue - but even the new ones connect with the reader immediately. There are three strands to the story and it moves quickly between them, leaving you breathless and wondering what will happen. It doesn't shy away from violence and heartbreak, which only adds to the high stakes. It's hard to say much without giving anything away so just take my word for it - buy this book if you love thrillers. A great read guaranteed.
I've read a number of Fiona Cummins' books but that is definitely my favourite. Don't get me wrong, this is a dark read and not for the faint hearted. There are a number of murders (that's not a spoiler!) and a number of complex characters and storylines which will keep you intrigued and conflicted.
DC Saul Anguish is back and on the tail of a modern day Bonnie and Clyde determined to go out in a blaze of glory. We also follow the Hardwicke family, suffering at the hands of a recent bereavement and trying to bring some happiness back into their lives.
When the two meet, prepare yourself for an enthralling story which you will be determined to read in one sitting.
Massive thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another brilliant read from Cummins that I inhaled in one sitting. Deserves all the stars for this complex, twisty thriller. Hope to hear more from DC Saul Anguish.
Another absolute cracking page-turner from Fiona.
Her stories are always dark and brooding with a smattering of violence. She does love to explore the darker side of human nature! While this does have the continuing character of Saul Anguish from previous books, it is easily read as a stand alone.
This is a cat and mouse chase set in a 24 hour period, where a very damaged couple go on a killing spree to ‘go out in style’. Entwined is an innocent family with their own problems caught up in the final scene where the mother has an impossible choice.
Very fast paced, with some clever twists.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
This is the next instalment featuring Detective Saul Anguish, and it was gritty.
Christine and her two children are on the way to Scotland for a much needed break as Christine’s husband is absent and she’s not been on top form. But what Christine doesn’t know is a couple are also heading that way called Missy and Fox. Missy and Fox are determined to become a household name, but for the wrong reasons when innocent people start dying. Saul is on a mission to catch the pair before any more blood is shed.
This was an excellent, tense, pacy thriller that left me speechless. The author wrote a complex storyline and she absolutely nailed it. Full of twists, turns, and dark moments, but it’s a five star read.
As Christine Hardwicke and her children head north to visit family, little do they realise that they are on a collision course with a couple on a killing spree. Will DC Saul Anguish and Dr Clover March be able to get to them in time and prevent a mother from having to make the most difficult decision ever.
This is going to be an incredibly difficult review to write as I don't want to give away any spoilers at all. There is so much happening in All Of Us Are Broken, layer upon layer of narrative that all build up to a fantastic story, that even the slightest hint could change a readers perception of events.
Right from the very first chapter you know this is going to be a brutal story with cataclysmic results. We are placed right in the middle of mayhem and forced to witness a stark choice.
Before we learn of the decision that is made we cut to Christine Hardwicke and her children Galen and Tom. The family are setting off on the long drive to Scotland to visit family. We slowly learn that things are strained between Christine and her daughter. Fiona Cummins has used very ambiguous language to describe the family situation, even though I'd figured out the basics of what had happened it was still a shock when everything was revealed thanks to the subtle way the story developed.
At the same time as the Harwicke's are setting off a young teacher, through inaction, causes one of her pupils to be badly injured. Rather than face the consequences she walks out of school and makes contact with an ex-boyfriend. The ex-boyfriend is bad news and they bring out the worst in each other. The couple go on the run, their one aim is to become infamous.
From the opening chapter you know the two story-lines are going to converge but it's the way in which we jump from one setting to the next that really builds the tension. As we switch from the quiet and contained family suffering and trying to rebuild their lives to the mindless brutality of lovers on the run from the police. Amid all this is DC Saul Anguish and his darkness, his strange sense of morality.
It's the events that happen when the two story-lines finally meet that are the most shocking. Not just in the violence but in the decisions that have to be made and the bravery shown. I could feel myself holding my breath, dreading how things were turning out, almost wanting to stop time. Even when we reach the conclusion there is still a little bit of mystery to be revealed.
Just like the author, I too fell in love with the beauty of the Scottish Highlands many years ago, and it’s here that ‘All Of Us Are Broken’ is set. However, in complete contrast, the dark storyline is in conflict with its surrounding beauty - but what a cracking read this is!
Single parent Christine Hardwicke, daughter Galen, and son Tom, leave their Essex home bound for Scotland’s Chanonry Point, to grant Galen’s wish to see the wild dolphins. This is a much longed for holiday - the first in a very long time, and a chance to put some sad events of the last couple of years to one side.
However, also headed for the Scottish Highlands are Missy and Fox, a couple on the run from the law, both with severely deep and damaged minds. As the hand of fate declares that the Hardwicke’s journey will cross with Missy and Fox’s, the repercussions will be horrific!
Dark though it was, this was a terrific read, with an interesting protagonist in DC Saul Anguish - brilliant, outspoken, a caring guy - however, when he, his friends or anyone else he cares about is threatened, he doesn’t play nice, you see Saul has a very dark side, but that only makes him even more interesting. ‘All Of Us Are Broken’ is a a grim, gritty and disturbing thriller, with a brutal couple who are intent on a Bonnie and Clyde style killing spree, attempting to outmanoeuvre the police, whilst playing psychological mind games with their terrified victims, but it’s brilliantly written and a real page turner! Highly recommended.
Another gritty thriller from.Fiona Cummins exploring the darker side of humanity. Saul Anguish and Blue are tet again called on to investigate a murder and follow a Bonnie and Clyde style killing spree. Their relationship feels even weirder and strained in this book. There are some sensitive topics such as child sexual abuse and terminal illness dealt with in a very poignant way. By the end of it you'll be an emotional wreck but wanting more! Really superb writing.
This is an ‘edge of your seat’ thriller. I absolutely LOVED it. With the scariest, most unhinged killers and the ongoing relationship between the protagonists it veers between terrifying and tender.
Brutal, astounding and brilliant!
Just when you think Fiona Cummins can’t get any better! All of us are broken is a dark, gritty, violent book which follows Missy and Fox who aspire to be Bonnie and Clyde.
I love the parallels between this story and that of their heroes. The feel of the book was just right and had be absolutely gripped from start to finish. I literally could not put it down!
To be a mother faced with only being able to save one child is something that makes me sick just thinking about it. But this is the choice given to Christine…how will she decide?
I loved the back story to the victims, I loved the back story to the officers. It really showed the ripple effect of life and of these traumatic events. I loved the way good and bad are seen not as polar opposites but as within us all.
I have no words to describe how amazing this book is!
Christine Hardwicke and her two children, Tom and Galen, are on their way to the Scottish Highlands for a well-deserved break.
Missy and Fox are on the run, seeing themselves as a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, they won’t give themselves up quietly, determined to take as many people with them as they can.
DC Saul Anguish is sent to the Highlands to help track Missy and Fox. Talented but troubled, Saul is the ideal person for the job. Sometimes having trouble staying on the right side of the law, but does it matter if it’s the bad guys who suffer?
This tense, pacey, thriller will have you holding your breath and gasping out loud. It’s dark, gritty, and at times incredibly moving. Brilliantly plotted and written, once you start you won’t want to put this down.
Fast paced thriller stretching the length of the UK culminating in a breath taking climax and leaving you wishing for more. First book I have read by this author and certainly won't be the last. Away to search for other titles and hope they are every bit as fast paced and entertaining as this one was.
Oh my word, what a gruesome but absolutely addictive book. It’s one of those where your heart is in your mouth throughout, and you can’t stop reading even to make a cuppa because you just have to know what happens next. I was on edge the whole way through and my heart was bleeding for Christine and her children. I felt as if I knew Galen and little Tom so well, and wanted to scoop them up and take them out of the dreadful situation they were in. Actually, the word dreadful doesn’t come anywhere near to covering what they all went through. Trauma at its very worst. Poor, poor Galen. I hated her school ‘friends’ and it brought home to me how vile and cruel children can be – and some adults of course. I had never met Saul or Blue, but it seems they have appeared in previous books from this very talented author and I’ll be looking out for them. This is one of the best books I’ve read this year, even though the ending left me heartbroken and in tears. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this absolutely fabulous story.
