There seem to be a lot of 'university reunion' thriller books out at the moment and if I'm honest I'm starting to get a bit tired of them, but this one was actually really good.
The characters were so well-written, you can picture them easily and their dialogue/actions were all realistic. I really liked the dual timelines and the plot was really engaging. Even though I disliked most of the characters, I still felt for them.
As previously mentioned, the storyline wasn't the most original but it was very well done and I really enjoyed reading it, so I would absolutely recommend this book. 4.5 stars rounded up.
A dark, clever novel I couldn't put down. An absolute skewing of middle-class privilege. Five friends from university gather the night before their friend's memorial service. A superbly paced plot and the revelations keep on coming. The characters are well drawn and engaging, if loathsome. Really well written, I will be following this author.
This was a great thriller which had me hooked. Five estranged friends from university gather the night before their friend's memorial service some have changed from their time at Oxford but some are just the same and all of them have secrets from there time at Oxford which they want kept secret..The characters are great. I got drawn in straight away to the story. Will definitely be reading more from this author. Fantastic!
I want to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book
The Fifth Guest is a fantastic read. It brought me into a world I would not be familiar with..
It is a very real and visceral read into the mindset of the privileged
I was transported there with the story telling
I especially felt the character of Elle. She is my hero
This is a wonderful read and I would highly recommend this to everyone
It taught me a whole lot more than I imagined
Full marks to Jenny Knight
I will look forward to reading more from her
From the description, I thought this sounded like an intriguing murder mystery.
I really liked this. When I looked at the description, my first impression was that the premise sounded a little bit Christie-esque, partly because of the dinner party element. This did in fact remind me a little of an Agatha Christie, even though it takes place in a modern day setting.
I was very interested in the characters, even if I didn't relate to all of them, or find all of them particularly likeable. I was very entertained, and this had me turning the pages quite quickly.

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.
Really enjoyed this story with it's cast of unlikeable characters.
The night before the unveiling of a statue in honour of their friend, Henry who died at uni Caro organises a dinner party with her uni gang.
Switching the narrative between the characters experience at uni and the dinner party, we discover the secrets along the way and what led to Henry's death.
Great read. Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion.
5 people at a time share a house in Oxford they are at the uni but due to circumstances find themselves together. Henry moves out Elle moves in.
Henry doesn't survive and now several years later his Mum host a memorial and all 5 are invited, so Caro decided to host a meal the night before for 4 of them but a 5th turn up. The night is full of surprises and revelations well it's a thriller isn't it. Henry and George are desperately wanting to be in the a team boat for the annual boat race with the enemy (Cambridge). Travis also Lily not the 5th guest are the other ones but yet mentioned, Lily's life has been hard as has Elles. The lads in comparison not so but Caro well you can read for read for yourself.
This is a excellently crafted thriller well written and I loved it I was hooked from the start and the characters were a great variety and worthy of the oxbridge brigade the entitled and those that worked their ..... off. I feel this is well worth 5 stars and hope your so as well.
It’s a slow burn for sure but for most good books are.
I was really surprised and enjoyed the storytelling, Jenny has woven a really great book
