Description

‘Do you believe Will took his own life?’

The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital’s cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me.

When Maggie’s husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news it was Will who pulled the trigger.

Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn’t suicidal. He had so much to live for.

After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.

As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past. Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.

Three can keep a secret... If two of them are dead.

To say this book is gripping, and you won't be able to put it down is an understatement. It got me hooked within the first few pages and it took me on an incredible ride. This is one of the most original stories I have ever read. Maggie is a wonderful character and I was rooting for her the whole time. This book is so cleverly twisted and very atmospheric. Loads of the story is set on a creepy Croatian island during the winter.
After reading this book I might be rethinking going on holidays on any small islands.
Kudos to Robert Bryndza for his master storytelling.

OMG! What a fast opening! This book terrifically twisty . . . hooks from the first page. It's also brilliantly researched and made me feel as if I was in dependable hands. Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza was electrifying from the moment I picked it up to the minute I put it down.

Maggie Kendall goes to work one morning, leaving her former forensic pathologist husband Will, now a property developer, in their terraced house in Bermondsey. She is a leading trauma surgeon at St Thomas’ hospital. This seems like a very professional couple living in the upper echelons of society. Nothing could be more idyllic. But when Maggie is welcomed at work by a code M10 – gunshot wound and stabbing – a young man half-conscious and struggling to breathe, we see how stressful her days really are. If that’s not enough, she is then faced with something more terrifying. Another patient with gunshot wound to the head. This is not just any patient. It's her husband. So when the police tell her he had taken his own life, Maggie is devastated and doesn't believe it for a second.

There are lots of pieces to this puzzle which, when Maggie gets to Tisina, become more and more frightening. Life-threatening accidents or coincidences keep happening and it becomes clear she is being “followed” or manipulated by something or someone. The pace doesn’t let up nor does the menacing atmosphere in the house. According to Will’s letter, a key holds her future. But when a friends shows up in a blue catamaran, I began to draw breath. Could this be her savior? Because as far as I was concerned, she needed to get the hell off that island.

With no one to turn to and desperate for answers, Maggie is in the path of the worst tornado of her life. For me, this book captures the creeping suspense of a locked-room mystery where the house itself is a character inasmuch as the mists and storms around the island. Many of the characters appear menacing and yet may become benign in later chapters which keeps you on your toes. The ending was incredibly satisfying and tied everything up fabulously. I found myself thinking about the characters and the plot long after the book ended.

This book is fast paced, rushing along at break-neck speed with no time to draw breath. This kept the tension high and enabled me to read it in one afternoon.

Many thanks to Raven Street Publishing, Robert Bryndza and Netgalley for the privilege of reading this ARC.

Thank you Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for the copy of Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza. I was so excited when I read that Bryndza was going to release a stand-alone book because I love the Kate Marshall books and the Erika Foster books. I was enraptured by the book from the beginning. As usual, the writing is so crisp it drew me right in.
Maggie is reeling from the death of her husband Will, so she escapes for a week to a small Croatian island where things start to get spooky almost immediately. Is someone targeting her or is she just on edge because she’s all alone in the house she used to stay in with Will by her side?
If you’re looking for an edge-of-your-seat read that you won't be able to put down, this is it. I really enjoyed this book, and it has firmly cemented Robert Brynzda as one of my favorite authors!

With the brilliance readers of his past series’ have come to enjoy, Bryndza does not disappoint with this stand alone thriller. Again, he creates a strong female protagonist who must go through some pretty intense challenges following tragedy. I loved the setting and the description of the Croatian scenery and people. Every page had me breathless with anticipation of what was to come and the odd sprinkling of almost supernatural effect worked well. Bryndza is without doubt one of the modern masters of this genre,

The first stand-alone book from Robert and I do hope it's not his last. This is one high octane read that was a proper page turner.

When Maggie’s husband had killed it set of a chain of events to silence everyone who was in the know. You never quite knew who to trust as Maggie tried to work out what was going off and why?

Brilliantly written, very fast pace. Loved it from cover to cover. I can't wait to read more books by this author.

An awesome mind-boggling thriller! I had been reading both Robert Bryndza's Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series and they are both really good, so I was happy to see this stand-alone book by the same author. The book took off quickly at the start an never let up!

Maggie Kendall, a trauma surgeon, went to work after spending a nice day with her husband. But he is brought in to A & E and quickly died. Maggie goes to their holiday home in Croatia for a week to try to relax and pick up some things her husband's family want returned. While there things get quite scary. Some strange things are happening and she's not sure if she is imagining them or if someone is trying to hurt her.

This book is gripping and tense. I couldn't put it down. It was full of action and suspense and was a great thriller. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers as I'm sure this one would be enjoyed.

Thanks to Raven Street Publishing through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on July 6, 2023.

Amazing, Fabulous, Phenomenal book. Couldn’t put it down. Was hooked from the beginning. The story starts with the suicide of Will, Maggie’s husband. Or was it? Maggie travels to their house on an island in Croatia and things start to happen. Just read the book! I highly recommend it. Please write the next book fast! Thanks to NetGalley, Raven Street Publishing and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

I couldn't wait to read this standalone story from one of my favorite authors and it did not disappoint! Maggie is shocked when her husband's body is found and she's told that he killed himself. She just can't believe he would do that, especially when they were so happy and life was typical as usual. She needs some time away and goes to stay at their vacation house on an island in Croatia. Or as Will's family sees it, his home. Part of the reason she goes there is to retrieve some family heirlooms that her mother-in-law wants back now that Will is gone. But her time there is not at all what she expected.

She's brought by ferry to the island by the slightly odd caretaker of their house and learns that a man and his son also inhabit the island during the off-season. She's not too worried about the isolation until weird things start happening. It's clear that Will had some serious secrets he was keeping from her. She'll need to piece together what he was hiding so that she can avoid further danger and get safely back home. But it's not as easy as it seems...

I love how the story heads in a different direction than you expect. There's so much more going on than just a grieving widow discovering her husband was hiding things from her. There's quite a bit of action which keeps the pace moving and makes you wonder what else could possibly happen next! And the descriptions of the island's beautiful yet haunting scenery leave a lasting impression. I hope to see more standalone thrillers from this author!

I so enjoyed this stand alone thriller from Robert! It had me hooked right from the start, a real page turner you won’t be able to put down. It was one of those ‘just one more chapter’ reads! The story line flowed well, lots of suspense and scary moments! It really made me feel supportive of the main character. I also enjoyed the description of the Croatian island where part of the story is set. It sounds beautiful in summer and scary in winter! The conclusion tied up all the loose ends and was very satisfying. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to other readers and look forward to the next book by this author.

"Fear The Silence" was an intense read full of suspenseful twisty plot points, mystery, action and hidden secrets. The complexity of the plot made for a truly gripping read. I found it to be unputdownable.

Thank you Robert Bryndza, Net Galley and Raven Street Publishing for providing me and ARC of this novel.

The fears we don't face eventually rise to the surface and feed upon us.

They told her that her husband Will took his own life. The very thought alone was appalling to Maggie. She had just left him by the comfort of the fireplace as she made her way to the door. Her shift started soon as a trauma physician in the ER. Will looked peaceful and content.

Hours later, the shock of the face inches away from her own in the ER was that of her husband. Maggie froze and she's been in that same state ever since. The funeral and the sympathy expressed by family and friends brought her no comfort.

The only comfort could come from the vacation house that they shared on a small island off the coast of Croatia. Will had designed the home himself and they had employed a caretaker named Branko to check on the property. But with it being November, the local hotel and the other vacation homes were closed for the season. Maggie embraced the thought. She had wanted an escape to the place where she and Will had been so happy.

But within hours of her arrival, Maggie is met with some very strange goings-on. She's found a note written in Will's handwriting. The contents is jarring. Will's sudden death is now even more questionable after reading it. And Maggie's own safety is pressed to the limits. Someone wants her dead as well. Alone in a secluded house. Alone on an empty island. Alone with no ferry for some time. But not completely alone.......

In addition, the setting of Croatia is a splendid touch of surround sound with its beauty and its treacherous landscape. The hearth and home are under attack as well as Maggie herself. Maggie will find herself in the midst of a very cunning attempt by some very Big Dogs. Believe me, there's a lot of bite to this one.......a lot of bite. Bravo, Robert Bryndza, just bravo.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Raven Street Publishing and to the talented Robert Bryndza for the opportunity.

Brilliant read, I think Robert Bryndza is going to give me a coronary from the amount of shouts i gave while reading Fear The Silence, started reading when i went to bed and couldn't put it down until I finished, one very tired old lady, get reading this, absolutely fantastic

Thank you Netgalley for providing me a copy!

As I love Robert's books I was excited for Fear The Silence. First of all : The Setting!! A small croatian Island in November! This was great - I know how Islands popular in summer are during winter - and I really could imagine it. The atmosphere, rainy days, wild sea! Loved it!

I'm not a scaredy-cat usually but the story gave me the creeps - especially everything that happened in that House on the Hill! Goosebumps! And that you really never knew whom you could trust didn't make it easier :D therefore Maggie was a great character and she handled everything amazingly ( I would have given up lol ).

If you love spooky, well written stories this one is for you!

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza was by far one of my favorite books that I have previewed this year. I read it in less than 3 days and the tension along with the amazing writing kept up until the final page. This book has everything. An amazing protagonist, scares and thrills and fear galore, beautiful scenery descriptions such that I could envision myself in the places that she was inhabiting. If you have a fear of the government and the power that is bestowed on those whom we elect, read this book. You will become paranoid. Fantastic book. I will be recommending this for a long time.

This was sensational!! Such a clever novel and this author really is the master of suspense.

When Maggie's husband is found dead in their London home, she thinks it is the result of a home robbery. But then she is told he took his own life. Except Will wasn't suicidal, he was the happiest he'd ever been. As the funeral finishes and Maggie begins clearing out their holiday home in Croatia, she finds a message written by Will, leading her to believe there was more to his death. As the story continues, the secrets keep coming, but so do the people that will try and prevent Maggie from getting to the truth.

This one was action packed from the very beginning and I read this late into the night. I was intrigued by the events that unfolded in this twisted plot driven mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed the different locations in the novel, that added to the intrigue and this was one of my favourites so far by the author.

Thanks to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for the gifted advance copy.

As always with a Robert Bryndza novel, a thrilling ride from the first page. The beautiful but isolated setting is frightening and I had to take a break on several occasions when it got too scary for me. The writing flows from page to page, with a clever plot which all comes together in a satisfying conclusion. Great read.

The book is so heartbreaking, tragic, and unpredictable. Maggie and Will met at medical school 29 years ago. They were happily married until one day changes the course of their destiny. The sudden death of Will made her devastated. But perhaps Will was harbouring a secret. His death has some inevitable connection with the past. As she delves deeper in his life, secrets begins to carve a path for her and lead her, she try to join the pieces and revelation shocks her . A letter arrives and strange things begin to happen. Expect the unexpected in the book. This revolves around Loss of loved ones, tragic death, connection with the past and secrets.

The book is intriguing, unputdownable, and unpredictable. I loved Maggie’s character. The other characters were intriguing too. I loved the setting. The author has taken us deep into the life of a wealthy family. The book hooked me from page 1 and kept me at the edge. I couldn’t put it down until i figured out the mystery. Author has done a brilliant job. I would definitely love to read more books of the author.

Thank you for giving me opportunity to read this book. Thank you Netgalley, Publisher and Author.

Terrific thriller that I simply could not stop reading.
Maggie's husband Will is brought into the ER, where she works as a physician, dead of a gunshot wound. She is told by the police that it was self inflicted but she has difficulty reconciling the Will she knew with this version that is being discussed: depressed, unhappy with his job and the list goes on.
None of this is her Will and as she grapples with it all amidst her own sorrow, trying to find a way forward, she starts to wonder just how well she really knew him.
Until it all starts to become a little clearer.
She receives a mysterious letter in the mail from him, mailed by an attorney at her husband's request, should he die. The Ietter changes her entire perspective and Maggie goes on a quest for the truth, visiting their getaway house on the Croatian coast, where it suddenly appears that her life could be in danger.
The story takes off and there is no looking back.
Suspense is non stop as the story line becomes riveting. Characters are so finely developed that you can almost see them standing right in front of you.
Maggie is strong, determined and completely fixated on getting to the truth, despite the threats suddenly springing up all around her.
Great read.
So what's next from Bryndza?
I am very anticipatory👍

So…my husband may be divorcing me because I canceled dinner plans to finish this book. It’s ok, it was worth it.

Maggie Kendall was at work as a trauma surgeon when her husband was brought in. She is told that he took his own life, but she’s struggling with that. Why would he do that? In her grief, she travels to Croatia where she and her husband own a holiday home. While there, she finds herself in perilous circumstances over and over again. She wishes she would have had her husband educate her on the use of their Smart Home technology so things would stop malfunctioning. She’s having trouble settling in due to her constant sense of uncertainty. She wants to leave this menacing island but this is proving difficult due to an impending storm and the fact that someone is terrorizing her.

This thriller is an intense, immersive experience from the very first page. I highly recommend it to all of you adrenaline junkies. Five stars. Thank you, NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for the ARC. This will hit the shelves on July 6, 2023.

“How can it be that the worst day of my life started out as one of the best?” When Maggie says goodbye to her husband Will, she has no idea that the next time she will see him is when she sees his dead body in the the ER of her hospital. And, believe me, this is not the worst day of her life. For Will, who may or not have committed suicide, has left her a trail of clues and secrets that will lead her on a harrowing search from a nearly deserted Croatian island to parts of Eastern Europe and finally home to England, staying only steps or minutes ahead of some very dangerous people.

Fear the Silence alternates between terror and suspense. You share Maggie’s feeling of not knowing who to trust or where to hide. The scenes on Tišina will have your heart pounding. All the locations are well described and visual. Robert Bryndza never disappoints. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Raven Street Publishing and Robert Bryndza for this ARC.

Excellent story. Fast paced. Very exciting dramatic with great characters.
Loved it from cover to cover. I can't wait to read more books by this author.

Robert Bryndza is one of my favourite authors on the planet for an excellent reason! He’s a writer of extraordinary talents, his first stand-alone thriller Fear The Silent showcases just what a versatile author he is. The book opens with a bang and from there on it an intense read chock full of suspense, action, mystery and the most delicious hidden secrets.
Whilst at work, Maggie’s husband, Will, kills himself in their London home. Maggie is consumed with grief and questions about his death. Something doesn’t add up. After the funeral, Maggie escapes to their holiday home on a Croatian island. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret. As Maggie begins to unravel the clues, she finds her own life is in danger.
Tišina a small Croatian island, is the perfect backdrop for this thriller. The authors’ descriptive writing conjures up a place that feels abandoned, claustrophobic, and menacing. You can’t help fearing for Maggie as she’s left isolated, alone and vulnerable. Bryndza expertly plays on this, creating tension and suspense that grows at every turn of the page. One of the strengths of this book is you never know whom you could trust, so the paranoia grows.
This book definitely falls into the category of just one more chapter. It’s not often I struggle to put a book down, but I did! Hence the bags under my eyes from the lack of sleep! So be warned, buckle yourself in for a hell of a read, Fear The Silent is a high octane thriller, it’s nail biting, unpredictable, creepy, and makes for a cracking read. The plot is fast-paced, with more twist and turns than the proverbial roller coaster. This may be Robert Bryndza’s first foray into standalone thrillers, but I am hoping and praying it’s not his last. Highly recommend by me!

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza. This book…. Wow, what a twisty page turner of a thriller that keeps you sat on the edge of your seat. My first Robert Bryndza book, it certainly won’t be my last.

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza is a brilliant, twisty, page-turner of a thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The main character Maggie is compelling and her situation following the death of her husband is heart-wrenchingly real. She seems to have nine lives as she progresses from one disaster to another in her efforts to get to the truth of the secrets her husband left behind.
This thriller never lets up from start to finish, and cements Bryndza's rightful spot as one of the best thriller writers of his generation
I consider myself fortunate to have received an ARC of #FearTheSilence from #NetGalley.

It’s always brave when a writer of successful series’ write their first standalone - did Robert Bryndza pull it off? Hell yeah! This is a fast paced edge of your seat rollercoaster of a book. Hooked from the first chapter and the pace is relentless. Wonderfully descriptive especially the Croatian section which Robert portrays with so much atmosphere and knowledge. You may have to suspend belief in parts but just go with the flow and indulge in the authors brilliant mind. Loved loved loved this book

I really enjoyed this book. I normally struggle to get into new stand-alone books when already a follower of the author but this one had me constantly turning the pages. A “proper mystery” that needs “unraveling” read and would recommend it. Thank you for my advanced copy to read.

What can I say about Robert Bryndza books that I haven't said before. His Erika Foster books are one of my favourite police procedural series , so when I heard he had a new, stand alone thriller coming out I was very excited indeed.

I have to say, it did not disappoint. It was dark and twisty and kept surprising me until the very end. It was a case of who can our main character trust, and there were plenty of very unlikeable characters .

A satisfying ending, I can't recommend his books more. Thanks to Raven Street Publishing for my advanced copy to read. Publishes on July 6th

I was really excited to read the first standalone from Robert Bryndza and I wasn't disappointed.

The book has such an exciting premise which really draws you in from the start and the first couple of chapters really set the book up perfectly for what is a brilliant story.

The writing as always from Bryndza was on point and the tension he can build is perfect.

Thanks to Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Well Robert Bryndza never ceases to amaze as he writes another 5 star thriller.
This standalone book starts as Maggie a doctor in a busy A&E hospital leaves her loving husband Will and her happy home to start her night shift. After a very busy shift alerts come in to say a gunshot victim is on their way but Maggie’s life comes to a crashing halt as she realises this is her husband Will and in this heartbreaking moment it’s too late to save him. It seems at this point things cannot be any worse for Maggie but when the police inform her that they believe Will took his own life she is totally confused, nothing at all pointed to Will taking his own life and where on earth did he get a gun !
Grieving after the funeral Maggie decides to travel to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to try and make sense of what is happening but things become even more confusing after she receives a strange letter from Will that was written some years back and given to a solicitor to post if anything was to happen to him.
Well OMG what a start this is and the pace of the book never lets up with so much going on I felt at times I could hardly breathe as I was racing to finish it desperately wanting to find out what was going to happen.
The writing of course is superb, the characters believable and the whole feel of the book was tense, exciting, well plotted and a joy to read.
So Mr Bryndza you did it again another tremendous read and one I would highly recommend so please keep them coming and many thanks
My thanks also to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I am a great fan of all Robert Bryndza's books. The crime series and the hilarious Coco Pinchard stories. Fear the Silence is Robert Bryndza's first stand alone novel and it doesn't disappoint. A rollercoaster of a story touching on cutting edge medicine, political scandal, murder and fleeing across continents, I read it in one sitting as every chapter stopped at a cliff hanger in the narrative that made me read the next one. A brilliant book that I am happy to recommend to any fan of a good thriller.
Thank you Netgalley, Raven Street Publishing and Robert Bryndza for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.

Tense and blindingly exciting! A masterclass of storytelling and gripping suspense. Maggie is a totally believable but also larger than life character, well written and alive with drive and energy. Thrilling fast paced and compelling this story is entrancing from the first page. This is personal tragedy with an edge which leads to a desperate search for answers in the wake of impending catastrophe. Simply stunning! Highly recommended.

Maggie is a doctor and loves her job. She also loves her husband and is devastated when he seemingly takes his own life. In the aftermath of Will’s death she takes a trip to their holiday home in Croatia. Already having doubts about whether Will’s death was suicide she finds herself in a living nightmare.

Absolutely BRILLIANT stand alone by Robert Bryndza. Fast paced full of twists and turns....I inhaled it in a day and didn't want it to end! I'm a huge fan of Bryndza's previous books and was a bit worried I wouldn't enjoy this stand alone but it really was one of the best books I've read this year.

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza was a wonderful, terrifying, and suspenseful novel. Maggie is a successful trauma surgeon married to Will, who is an equally successful property manager. Her life is forever changed when a patient with a gunshot wound to his head enters the ER. The patient is her husband, but what is thought to be random violence turns out to be much more. Maggie escapes to their vacation home in Tisina, but what should be a safe haven turns into a terrifying and deadly experience.
There are so many twists and turns to this mystery, it will keep you at the edge of your seat. You will never guess the ending, nor be able to keep this story out of your mind for a long time!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great mystery. Thank you to Raven Street Publishing, and Netgalley for this ARC.

What an excellent stand alone thriller from the author! I found it compelling but unbelievable, it is fiction after all, but I really enjoyed the read. I can highly recommend this exciting, tense and well plotted thriller. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

What a harrowing new suspense thriller by a favorite author of mine! I was ecstatic to have a chance to read it. The unexpected death of her husband throws Maggie into unfamiliar territory. She’s a middle aged intelligent surgeon, ill-prepared to handle menial everyday tasks. They both had careers but Will took care of their vacation house he’d built on a small Croatian island, a short trip from London. She’s numbed by grief, filled with unanswered questions about his death. She’s going there to close it up for the winter. Right from her arrival little things go wrong, items out of place, unexplained equipment malfunctions, strange figures in the night. Just as anyone who’s lost a loved one in such an unexplainable way, she has doubts about the circumstances and questions the police version. As she digs into clues on the island her true allies and enemies will surface. There are chills and thrills, goosebumps and prickles, I was holding my breath. Will she uncover the truth about Will’s death or die herself trying?
This was a very different plot than the Kate Marshall or Erika Foster books I’ve read and I loved it! Good mystery and characters, wonderful setting, highly recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the digital advance reader copy of “Fear the Silence” by Robert Bryndza, and to Raven Street Publishing. These are all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily.

I had never read any of Robert Bryndza's books before but I thought it looked interesting after reading so many WWII dramas. This book was "couldn't put it down" amazing! Maggie's search to find out the truth about Will's death kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed reading about their home in Croatia and everything she went through trying to solve the mystery. The book was chalk full of characters who weren't what they seemed when we are first introduced to them. I'll definitely be checking out more of his books. I appreciate NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

Teaser :

‘Do you believe Will took his own life?’

The question echoed off the white tiles in the hospital’s cold, cavernous morgue, and I studied my husband in peaceful repose. I leaned down and put my forehead against his. Silent tears ran down my cheeks. They felt hot, and he felt so cold. It was five days since his death, and my grief felt heavy, like a vast, dark mass pushing down on me.

When Maggie’s husband, Will, is shot dead in their London home, she thinks he is the victim of a burglary until the police tell her the shocking news that Will was the one who pulled the trigger.

Maggie is consumed with grief and questions. Will wasn’t suicidal. He had so much to live for.

After the funeral, Maggie travels to their holiday home on a small Croatian island to escape London. She finds a disturbing letter written by Will, containing clues to a dark secret.

As Maggie puts the pieces together, she discovers Will’s death is connected to someone from his past… Someone who will go to extreme lengths to keep Maggie silent.

Three can keep a secret... If two of them are dead.

Brilliant story which is so messed up, absolutely loved it!

Took some time to work out if anyone was who they said they were but gripping.

This is one of those books that starts one way and then suddenly turns left when you don't expect it, leaving you wondering what the heck is going on. And not in a bad way either. The story follows a Doctor who works in the ER, and one night her husband is brought in with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. From there her life starts to unravel in the worst possible ways, leaving her convinced that it was not suicide, despite that being what the police have ruled. She goes to their Croatian holiday home to pack up and that's when things start getting even more wild.

It's a thriller of a ride, and one that needs to be read, as the scary thing is: how often does this stuff happen?

I really like this author, and have read loads of his books. However I think I just read his best book, it was fab.I liked the main character, the other characters were believable, the plot was so twisty, just when I thought I had it worked out ,it went and fooled me again. The pace of the book was great, and I really can't fault it, I absolutely loved it. and would absolutely recommend it to other readers.

This is a brilliant stand-alone thriller from one of my favourite crime writers.
When Maggie’s husband is found shot dead at their London home, she finds it difficult to accept the police verdict of suicide. After the funeral, she travels to Croatia to close up their holiday home and bring back their belongings. However, nothing feels quite as it should and things start to go wrong. A cryptic message from her husband’s solicitor leads her to ask a friend to do her favour. The friend is then involved in a hit and run which leaves her fighting for her life and Maggie begins to wonder just what her husband was involved with.
The plot is fast moving with so many twists and turns that you have really have to concentrate to keep track of them. Maggie doesn’t know who she can trust and neither do we which makes for a very unsettling read. I couldn’t put it down and loved the final resolution.
Thank you to Net Galley and Raven Street Publishing for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This story is a great thriller about a surgeon whose husband dies - apparently by suicide. Maggie isn't buying it. But all evidence points that way.

After the funeral, she heads to their holiday house on a remote island in Croatia. And then unexplained and upsetting things started to happen. As Maggie tries to unravel the events that are becoming increasingly scary, Maggie begins to worry about her safety.

The story moves from one horror to another and the reader wonders how she will get out of this alive. The ironic ending was satisfying.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from Net Galley.

This is an "edge of your seat" standalone story by Robert Bryndza.
The only problem that Maggie had in her life was her overbearing Mother in law who still couldn't understand why Maggie and Will had opted to remain childless.............until it wasn't.
Dr. Maggie Randall, senior trauma registrar at Guy's and St. Thomas hospital in London, had just saved a young stab victims life, she was awaiting a gunshot casualty and it was at that moment when Maggie's life was to change forever, the almost lifeless body on the trolley was Will, her husband, Will who she had been with since medical school, Will who was happy doing property design after giving up forensic medicine, Will who had put a gun in his mouth and blown his brains out.
Maggie didn't believe the coroners verdict, she knew Will, or did she ? The people at Will's funeral were mostly powerful people who Will, and his family were acquainted with.
Maggie was to take herself off to the beautiful Croatian house that Will had built for her, a house where they shared many happy memories but things on the island were different in winter, it was isolated and silent apart from the waves pounding the rocks, Maggie was nervous. When a letter was deliver to her from her late husband "in case he died in suspicious circumstances" Maggie's nervousness turned to fear, especially as attempts were made on her life, who could she trust ? who wanted her dead and why ?

This story follows Maggie's determination to solve the mystery of Will's death and the mysterious letter, the arduous dangerous journey across Europe. This author has brilliant descriptive powers, I could almost feel the wind and the rain as the storm raged. An enjoyable, well written mystery.

This Mystery Is Worth Your Time!

If you’re looking for a slow-paced psychological thriller, this isn’t the book for you. Robert Bryndza created a fast-moving intelligent mystery with plenty of action.

The book opens with our peaceful main character Maggie, ER physician, performing surgery to save a life. She is a happily married woman, respected and with a wonderful best friend. Suddenly, an emergency patient is brought in with a gunshot wound. He cannot be saved, and the patient is Maggie’s beloved husband, Will. The police determine it is a suicide. Maggie believes it is impossible.

She discovers her husband is keeping a secret from her and in addition to being a young widow, she is shocked by the horror of the upcoming events. She and Will owned a large vacation home which is outfitted with state-of-the art electronics. The home is in Croatia; Maggie goes there to clear out the home; instead she discovers Will’s secrets have placed her in a precarious position.

This book is more than a page-turner. It is intelligent mystery, an introduction to Croatia while the reader is bombarded with twist after plot twist. The author joins the harshness of the weather, the unforgiving sea and murder into a multi-faceted plot centering around Maggie trying to save her own life. This is not solely about a husband hiding secrets from his wife, it involves extreme violence and a conspiracy. Maggie’s reaction to the violence depicts a smart woman who is determined to survive. The book, however, deserves a better title.

If you want to read an exhilarating mystery, start reading! My gratitude to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for this pre-published book. All opinions are expressed are my own.

I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed the Erika Foster series and the Kate Marshall series, and I was really excited to read this stand-alone by Robert Bryndza. I never bother to read an excerpt, and to be honest I don’t even look at the cover if I know it’s an author I enjoy. From the first chapter of ‘Fear the Silence’ I was hooked.

It was cleverly written, and I loved that it was so different to the Erika Foster & Kate Marshall series. While standalone books sometimes fail to evoke the same level of attachment to characters as series do, I did really like the main character in this novel. There were a few moments that quickened my heartbeat, particularly those involving water, which always manage to stir a touch of anxiety within me. Once I began reading, it became incredibly difficult to put the book down.

I would like to express my gratitude to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
