Description

The Archwizard has died. The Archwizard has risen. But nobody knows who now harnesses Wild Magic into the valuable tool magi use to create magical devices or to power supernatural constructions that hold the twenty-two kingdoms together.

And those magical devices have failed. Cities across the realms stink with the failure of wastebowls. Citizens struggle to survive with watertubes that give no water.

Children freeze in the night because of cold heatrods. And the darkness of night swallows their suffering as lightstones do not shine. This has never happened in the centuries of their making and use. Nobody knows why, when, or even if magicals will come to life again. In The Guardians, the mountainous barrier at the eastern edge of the High Kingdom, monsters in numbers never seen since The Chaos War have invaded and are killing and destroying everyone and everything in their path.

Gradreilla, Grady to her friends, escapes from her mother's nagging about finding a man to marry into the bright, blue sky dome over her village at the feet of The Guardians. Strolling to The Flowing Tap to deliver the morning's bread from Mother's bakery, breathing in the crisp mountain air. Like Grady's mother, everyone is ignoring the sounding of The Horn. Mother figured it was just the visiting guardsmen making sure that old Harlin could blow the warning signal for floods, fires, or the rare sighting of chaos beasts who worm their way through The Guardians.

Happily ignorant to the world-shattering events stampeding towards her, aimed at stomping her world into ruin. But through the devastation, Grady will find a spark of friendship with people she meets on her path to redemption. Like Erein, who is still alive because of her parent's sacrifice. And Dirk, a mysterious endrovian pirate who is thousands of miles away from his native waters.

Together they will learn what has happened to the Archwizard and how the rising of the most powerful magi in the High Kingdom hounds them, and saves them.
