Description
Hilah Roscoe’s The Sweet Shrub Inn is an unforgettable tale of love, loss, family, and Southern charm.
In one day, Cora Graham is dumped by her boyfriend in Chicago and receives a call that her estranged father in Mississippi is suffering from Alzheimer's. Her father isn't the only reason she's reluctant to go home. Two years earlier, at her best friend's wedding, she made her feelings known for Jensen Mabry, only to be turned down.
Cora must renovate and sell her father's old Sweet Shrub Inn to pay for his medical costs. When Jensen offers to loan the money, something feels amiss. What is the reason for his kindness?
As she navigates renewed passions and her father’s terrifying illness, Cora faces her heart’s ultimate dilemma: should she return to Chicago, or stay and learn to love again?

This was a heart warming and heart breaking story with incredible messages and moments of real life. I loved the way the author wrote these characters and the story itself, so easy to fall in love.
Therapist-in-training, Cora Graham finds her world spinning after she is dumped by her boyfriend and told that her estranged father is suffering from early onset Alzheimer's. She finds herself returning to her hometown in Mississippi, having to confront Jensen Mabry, the town heartthrob and then man who she revealed her feelings for at best friend's wedding. Yet on her return she finds that her father bought the old Sweet Shrub Inn, which she must renovate and sell to pay for his increasing medical costs. Whilst Jensen offers to loan her the money, she wonders about his reasons despite her growing feelings for him.
A lovely romance between Cora and Jensen which progressed gradually, making it both believable and refreshingly honest. I enjoyed reading about the Southern feel of the book, which describes the small-town charm perfectly. I look forward to the next book by this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A typical romance story. A young woman returns to her childhood home in Mississippi to take care of her estranged father who has developed demetia. There she reconnects with friends and discovers what is important to her in life. A quick read perfect as a beach read.

This was a NetGalley ARC that is already out. I mistakenly thought it was coming out this year when it’s actually already been published. I was a bit disappointed in myself for not double checking the dates seeing as I already have so many arcs to read. I’m REALLY happy I requested this one!
This is a very sweet closed door romance that had me engaged from the beginning! I read this book in a day and absolutely loved Cora and Jenson’s story!!
Cora grew up in a small town outside of Mississippi. Cora went to school in Chicago and fled back there after an embarrassing encounter with her high school crush. After declaring her feelings for Jenson, his lack lustre response had her vowing to stay as far away from her hometown as possible.
Two years later, Cora gets a call that her estranged father is ill with the early stages of Alzheimer’s. Cora heads back to her hometown at the request of the doctor and reconnects with all the friends from her past including Jenson.
Traveling back and forth from Chicago to Mississippi is taking its toll on Cora but being back in her hometown has been great. Even if it means facing both her embarrassing encounter with Jenson and her misgivings about her father.
What if she left too quickly the last time and misread Jenson’s reaction to her emotional declaration? What will happen if she confronts her father about her childhood before his mind is lost to a debilitating disease? Chicago is where Cora lives now but where is her home?
This is a really sweet, quick read closed door romance story. If you like romance without a ton of spice, this is a great book for you. There is a great mix of romance, family relationship development and deep friendships. This is a 4 star read for me!

This book was such a sweet read. It’s a small-southern-town, friends-to-lovers romance and I gobbled it up I really loved the romance between Cora and Jensen. I loved that it was not rushed. The story flows smoothly. I’ll definitely be reading more books from this author.
The cover of this book was so cute and made me want to read this book. I highly recommend this beautiful book!!
Thank you NetGalley and Atmosphere Press for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
This was a sweet, clean romance.
I don't read clean romances very often, if ever. I did enjoy this one though. The varying dynamics between the female and male leads were great. The back and forth with their feelings for one another.
I really wish there were multiple points of view throughout this book. It was told through the female character's perspective, which was good! However I would have loved a few chapters from the main guy's perspective.
The whole plot of this book is based on miscommunication. I know that can bother a lot of people but I liked it for what it was. It didn't make sense for the miscommunication to last as long as it did but that's whatever.
Then there's the drama of her father getting sick and her father? God, he grew on me. Not going to lie. He stayed away because of his own insecurities? Ugh, it doesn't make it right but I felt so bad for him and for how much he missed.
If you're looking for something feel good, small town, clean romance-- this is a good book for you!
The Sweetshrub Inn is a well written book. Good plot and character dynamics. I recommend this book.
