Young, innocent Calli is beset by the creature Malum who causes her great pain. She finds a haven in a strange forest where the creature cannot follower her. In there, she meets a boy named Timoris, who leads her to a nearby town where he lives, a town named Hurt. She meets different characters there, all whom are somehow connected by not only their own heartache but by the seemingly harmless Timoris. Each person she meets shows Calli how they each deal with their pain but Calli eventually discovers that their solutions are only mere deceptions. She decides to leave and her journey leads her through different towns within the forest, each with a different lur to keep her trapped in a place she once thought was safe. Between Two Kingdoms is an allegory which depicts humankind's need for the true Healer.
