Dance With The Ants is an endearing picture book by Vickie Gunter about a boy and his mother who decide to go on a last-minute picnic. The boy sees what a lovely day it is and asks his mother if they can picnic and spend time together. On their way, the mother mentions that ants often arrive and spoil picnics. With that worry in their minds, the pair is surprised at the uninvited guests they receive. The story is written in rhyme and has a nice flow. The reader will see a number of different animals and discover what foods appeal to each. When the ants finally appear, it is in a very unexpected manner. The story is sweet and fun and includes, in simple context, a few words likely new to young readers. The illustrations by Kiran Akram are colorful and whimsical, showing how much the picnic is enjoyed by many. This is an adorable book that will enthrall children and parents alike.
Thank you to NetGalley and Vickie Gunter for the ARC.
