I loved this book. I loved that it was from an author who lives in the Ukraine (which is so important to hear from). I could tell that it was written by a non English speaker, because at times the prose was a little stiff or clunky, but I do not feel like it deterred from the message. I also think it’s important for children to be exposed to non-English speaking translations that do not necessarily meet standard UK or USA conventions.
I would ask that the author please explain that the “Eskimo” is considered to be racist and not used by the Inuit, Athabaskan, Tinglet, and more, people.
As the title says, Kayaking! This was an amazing children's illustration. The beauty around how Dnipro River was before the war. How wonderful it was to kayak. The wonderful illustrations makes you partake into the authors little adventure to witness nature and wild life, how it existed before the war. It’s a wonderful journey and things you can enjoy if you pick up a hobby. Everything is detailed and beautifully crafted. There's no need for a storyline but enjoy the ride of what the author experienced. Enjoy the ride to unknowns and let the river take you into the mist of time.
This is a cute book all about kayaks. It includes their history, information about how to kayak, terminology that will be helpful in kayaking, and even how best to kayak as you learn! It’s geared towards a younger audience, with adorable illustrations. Perfect for introducing young ones to this fun sport.

True to its title, "Kayaking" is an exploration of kayaking—here, on Ukraine's Dnipro River. Part love letter to the water and part love letter to the place, this is both informative and beautifully illustrated. Don't expect a lot of plot here; the book is more about exploration and quiet adventure. It would be useful for kids who are soon to go out on a kayak (or canoe) for the first time, but in 2023 it's also nice to see books that offer a picture of Ukraine other than, well, what's been in the news for the past year and a half.
Quiet and lovely—my favorite illustration is the seagull on pages 6–7.
