A delightful collection of verses that captures the essence of childhood in a playful and insightful manner. With each poem, Lawson brings to life the simple joys, misadventures, and everyday marvels that make growing up such a magical journey. The collaboration between Lawson's clever wordplay and Netta Jones' enchanting illustrations creates a whimsical atmosphere that is sure to captivate both young readers and those who are young at heart.

Judith Barrett Lawson weaves a tapestry of lighthearted humor and poignant observations that touch on themes of growing up, loss, and the enduring power of dreams. "I Smile at the Sun" is not just a children's book; it's a celebration of life's little wonders that will resonate with readers of all ages.

Thank you NetGalley and DiAngelo Publications for the ARC! All opinions are my own. Immediately when I opened Judith Barret Lawson's book I Smile at The Sun, I was brought back to my childhood! The use of drawn images as well as the format remind me of the Shel Silverstein books from when I was growing up. My favorite poem in the book would have to be "Goodbye," as the eldest child who moved hundreds of miles away from my family, it reminds me of my journey in doing so. I agree with Lawson that "each poem is a celebration of life," we all have very different outlooks on life, and I think poems are a beautiful way to showcase that. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children who loves poetry, as well as adults who loved Shel Silverstein growing up.
