Description
The comic companion to the BBC sitcom GHOSTS, perfect for all the family.
Everybody leaves a trace. The ghosts of Button House may have been dead a long time - some of them a very long time - but they have all left their mark on the world (even if, in Robin’s case, that mark is just a handprint on the wall of a cave).
Gathered together in this volume is a treasure trove of unearthed cuttings, original records and rare artefacts that explore the unseen lives of those who died at Button House: from Thomas's love letters to Pat's ‘Summer Camp Rap’, and from Julian's campaign promises to Lady Button's Rules of Etiquette. There are even documents dictated to the one person who can see and hear the ghosts: Alison Cooper.
Written by the show’s creators – Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond – this eclectic archive is a unique chance to discover more about the beloved ghosts of Button House. Thank be to Moonah!
A book for all the family, it is as warm-spirited and deliriously daft as the series itself.

I received a sample copy of this from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I'm only sorry that it was just a sample copy as the bits I read are excellent. I confess to being a huge fan of the BBC's Ghosts comedy and this book is a great companion piece for any fan. It helps that it's written by the same people who write the show, of course, and that they are some of the most talented comedy writers around today.
The layout is like a scrapbook of bits and pieces about the ghosts during their lives - Pat's misadventures as a scout leader covered in the local press, the minutes of a House of Commons Select Committee enquiry into Julian's expenses, Mary's instructions on how to weave a willow basket five potatoes high - and they're beautifully done, really capturing each ghost's personality. Even a double page of the Radio Times schedule with each ghost circling what programmes they will watch really sums them up.
One for the fans perhaps, but there are plenty of us and with the last series coming up, I'll take everything I can get!

My thanks to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishers for a sample of “Ghosts” for an honest review.
I’m a big fan of both Ghosts and Ghosts US so I was really interested in reading a sample of this companion book to the series.I loved what content was previewed and I’m definitely going to be putting the book on my Christmas list !
I’m sure this will appeal to anyone who is a fan of the show
I love Ghosts, such a well written, funny, and sometimes genuinely poignant show, and if this sample is anything to go by, the book will be a good extension of that - I found the Julian sections in particular very funny.
Will be keeping an eye out for the full book!
Ah what a little tease of a treat this is. I love Ghosts and this book looks like the perfect accompaniment for fans. Definitely one for the Christmas list! Lots of little in-jokes and subtle references for fans, and looks like it will make a great companion piece.
I received a sampler of the Ghosts Archives and I’ll start by saying, if you’re a fan of the show (I’m going to assume that you are because EVERYONE should be. It’s straight to the point pure epic), that you’re going to love this book. I only got a sneak peak and I thought it was the best thing ever.
I’m the biggest fan of Ghosts and the show is my ultimate comfort watch and totally won’t embarrass myself by saying how many times I’ve watched it, but the book is the most perfect companion. It’s a great addition to the show and we get further insights into all the characters we’ve come to know and love.
All of the ghosts have such huge personalities and it was great to see snippets of them on the pages.
Want to see the Captains recommended workout routine accompanied by some really inspired illustrations (yeah, you know you do), along with Mary’s instructions on how to build a basket 5 potatoes high. We get newspaper cuttings of some of Pat’s rather hilarious escapades and transcripts from some of Julian’s rather dodgy dealings and attempts to build his very own swimming pool on expenses… and the addition of the Times TV schedule spread with all of the programmes each of the ghosts have highlighted to watch was a further glorious insight into their personalities. I mean, Thomas on a Friends Marathon binge sound about right.
This book was a pure delight to read and it really made me smile. And if I got that just from the sneak preview, I can only imagine the full read will be everything us fans could want and more.
I’m going to be so sad to see this series end but having this book on my shelf is definitely somewhat of a balm to quell el heartbreak at having the series come to a close. I’m glad they decided to release a book as it really does give us a further opportunity to get to know more about the ghosts and enjoy a bit more of the show we all know and love.
Exactly what I would expect from a Ghosts book and more! I especially liked the little interview with Kitty and can’t wait to read the others! Great examples of mixed medias and the classic humour we’ve come to love. Can’t wait to see the finished book as it’ll be top of my Christmas wish list!
Having preordered the Ghosts book as a Christmas present for every Ghost fan I know and, ahem, for myself too, I was so excited to review a sampler of the book. This sampler has totally got me excited for the book's release in October. It's filled with documents such as archaeological reports., exercise routines, transcripts, newspaper articles, letters and more, from the lives of our favourite ghosts. I laughed out loud at every page, written perfectly so I could almost hear each ghost's voice as I read. Full of in jokes from the series and new information about each ghost too. This book is going to absolutely perfect for any fan of the show.
If you enjoy the TV series Ghosts, this book should be great fun, judging by the pre-publication sampler. Current owner of Button House, Alison has compiled an archive of artefacts concerning each of the ghosts. From a House of Commons hearing on Julian's fraudulent expense claim to newspaper articles about scoutmaster Pat and a lovelorn letter from Thomas (returned with a disparaging note from his beloved), not to mention an account of Mary's witch trial, there are interesting snippets about all the ghosts. Can't wait to read the completed book!
I love this insight to the history of Cottonhouse and all the girls to reside there. There are back stories for the different characters, declarations of love, historical insights into life in the past, and excellent pictures of our favourite ghosts.
I absolutely can’t wait to buy this book once it’s released, it is absolutely fascinating and gives an amazing insight into the creation of ghosts. This will make the perfect present for any ghosts fan.
What an absolute treat this sampler is! I was very intrigued about how the writers were going to piece this book together - would it be scripts and character notes and absolutely love the scrapbook format giving more of an insight into the characters and their backgrounds while remaining very witty. This has now made me ridiculously excited to see the finished product in October! A very big thank you to Bloomsbury and NetGalley for the chance to have this sneak peek into something that Ghosts fans are going to adore.
This sampler has got me very excited about the book coming out this month. It's got letters, a getting to know you bio, transcripts from the House of Commons, newspaper clippings, a fitness guide, an archaeological report and more, just in this small sample. I can't wait to learn even more about the Ghosts when the book comes out. Thomas' letter is particularly brilliant! If you like the show this is a must read.
This is Hilarious! Although only a sampler, this book embodies each of the characters perfectly and in such creative ways too. I loved the use of the TV timetable as an insight to what they think the characters would enjoy watching as well as seeing into several of the characters various correspondences. I definitely want to pick up the full version of this once it comes out!
Perfect gift for anyone that loves the show!
I can’t wait to purchase the full version of this book! It encapsulates each ghosts personality perfectly, you can just imagine hearing these inserts in their voices. I truly believe ALL Ghosts fans will adore this book!
Some highlights include a love letter from Thomas, The Captain’s exercise routine and Julian sending an email from Mike’s laptop (first time i have laughed out loud at a book)
I absolutely love the tv show Ghosts and am very excited for when this new companion book is published
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC Sampler of 'Ghosts'
It's hard to review a sampler because I don't know the whole gist of the story at hand. But let's be real, it's a companion to the excellent TV show Ghosts which I adore so it was perfection. Fans of Ghosts will definitely need this on their shelves.
With Ghost sadly in its final season this book will provide a lasting tribute to our favourite residents of Button House. This is a scrapbook providing background material on each of the characters, it gives insight into their characters and preoccupations and is lavishly illustrated throughout. As might be expected of the clever team that being us this programme there is much to amuse the reader in this book.
A Highly Recommended Read!
This is going to be everywhere at Christmas! Some fabulous back stories to all of our favourite Ghosts characters, from love letters written by who else but Thomas, to some newspaper clippings demonstrating some of Pat's non-fatal accidents.... Written by all of the cast members in their inimitable voices, the range of stories and images in this companion book really makes this a must-buy for anyone who loves Ghosts!
I received a sampler of this book and if you love the series you're going to love the handbook.
You too will be able to workout in the style of Captain Willbond, check out notes from the archaeological dig when they found the body of Robin or an inquiry into Julian. Lots of little snippets into the lives of the ghosts that reside on Button House, I can't wait to see the full book. Its definitely something that needs to go on your Christmas Wishlist this year!
A must for any ‘Ghosts’ fans! I love the programmes and would love to receive this in my Christmas stocking this year! I love the humour of this series and whilst I have only seen a sample of the book, it is spot on. I especially love the Julian character and there were two very amusing sections concerning him in this small example. I am so going to miss the tv series and this would be a glorious reminder of this gem of tv.
Sadly just a sampler, but a delight nonetheless!
If you're a fan of the show, and if not why not, you'll love this book. It's a collection of ephemera, notes and tidbits about the lives and backstories of the ghosts of Button House
Looking forward to reading the full book once released
I received an advance copy for free from NetGalley, on the expectation that I would provide an honest review.
