A full-colour young children's first horse book, with lots of horse cartoons and photos. This book tells children the basics they need to know about horses, horse riding and starting out on a life as a horse lover, while also being fun, colourful and happy.
Pictures to dream of the life a child can have with horses to create wonderful memories and friendships.
The author, Debbie Burgermeister, has been inspired by her parents who have blessed her with a wonderful life growing up with horses.
When she was a child she learned practical life skills and many great horsemanship skills from a very talented horseman, her father, who taught her to train horses over 30 years ago in the natural way, and to ride horses to compete up to state level championships.
Now the mother of twins, she juggles running her own horse riding school, managing a household, keeping fit and still being involved in the sport of horse riding and competitive polocrosse.
Her passion is horses, and educating people to start with horses safely and confidently, giving people the chance to enjoy a unique, stress free, and liberating activity.
Start your life with horses to run free with these beautiful animals and create memories that will last a lifetime!

This book is a fun read that discusses some of the basics regarding horses and riding for younger readers. It includes many facts but also some fun, creative things such as a quiz at the beginning. According to the quiz, I was “certifiably horse crazy” growing up, and now I only have a “high fever” (I passed on my horse toys and wall art long ago).
The information in this work covers a wide range of horse-related topics. Details about coloration of horses, the names of their different markings, using “hands” as measurement, and riding styles are included among much other information. There were helpful illustrations depicting certain topics (such as tack required or a horse’s gait), and there were also pictures labeled underneath certain discussions as examples.
There are some errors such as sentence fragments and extra punctuation, so another round of editing would be good. I’d like to give it a higher rating, but due to how little text there was in the book, I would expect there to be no errors. I also would have liked to see a bit more information (e.g., stable setup or requirements, paddock requirements, maintaining a clean stable, etc.) incorporated to round out this work as I feel that there are some important topics relating to horses left unaddressed. The formatting for the e-book was also made it almost impossible to read on my kindle or in the app.
Overall, I still would have loved this book when I was young, and I recommend it for those who have horse-obsessed children in their lives. My thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read and review this work.
