This book is a great resource for all the essential hygiene care for your dog. Often times I do the grooming or part of the grooming at home and this book was a nice refresher to know I’m doing things correctly, but I also learned some new info and tips. It is pretty basic and more geared towards beginners as the title would suggest. I still did learn a few new things. I would recommend this if you are new to owning a dog or if you haven’t previously done any of their care.
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, New Shoe Press for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Good photos and clear directions make this beginner’s dog-grooming book of skills and tips seem like something a true beginner might actually be able to implement. The extent of my knowledge is how to use scissors, and even that can be a bit jagged at times. This book lets me think I could make my groomer-averse dog look better.
My dog had a terrible experience at the groomer two years ago, and ever since, it's been extremely hard trying to get him groomed on our own. This book gave us tips and how-tos that we can actually try at home! The nail-cutting part was especially helpful, as this is the part our dog (and us) struggles the most with. I will be ordering a copy of this book for future reference when it is available in my area!
As a professional pet groomer I found this book to be very refreshing. It was well written and executed in a way that a pet parent could properly care for their pet at home between grooming. This book explained how to recognize the different coat types, proper use of tools and their maintenence, amoung other helpful tips in caring for your pet hygienic needs. The only thing I did not agree with was the teaching of emptying anal glands. If a person is not aware of any existing problems with the glands, one can create health issues and injury to the pet. This "procedure" should only be done by trained professionals.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this advanced copy.
