I always tend to think when you find a love of gardening, whether you are an expert or a beginner there is always something new to learn and exciting discover. I am by no means an expert, but I like to think I know my own garden, including its wildlife and plants and would like to learn more about how to keep them thriving through the winter months, ready to re-emerge stronger and more vibrant in the spring.

This book by the Royal Horticultural Society is a blend of helpful facts, gardening tips and folklore. Broken down, month by month to show you how your garden grows and develops throughout the seasons. It is packed with useful information about when and how to plant things, the best possible soil conditions and locations. It even included information about the average rainfalls, temperatures and even lunar times. It is beautifully designed and really well thought out. There is even a section each month on edible gardens and lovely recipes to accompany them.

EXERT - October
As the nights draw in and temperatures fall, October offers one final gift to share before winter, when the garden fires up for a spectacular Swansong. Glistening fruits deliver their sweet feast whilst trees and shrubs that have gone unnoticed all year now dance in the spotlight, their crimson, orange and gold leaves falling like coins around a treasure chest.

And that is exactly what this book is, a treasure chest of information delivered beautifully with useful information and stunning illustrations. It would make a lovely gift for someone.

Such a great read to plan for gardening in 2024. Full of great tips and beautiful photographs, would make an amazing gift for a gardener or someone interested in starting to garden.

As an inexperienced but keen gardener, this is exactly the book I need! Laid out month by month, it covers what you need to do in the garden for flowers, fruits and vegetables, when to plant, average temperature and rainfall, what's in season and information on different plants and problems you may encounter. There are lots of photos to help explain how to do everything and beautiful illustrations and recipes for seasonal foods for each month.

The Royal Horticultural Society are obviously the absolute experts in the field (excuse the pun!) and this is the perfect reference book, easy to use, full of information and guaranteed to help you make the most of your garden.

This is a beauty of an Almanac!! The perfect balance of gorgeous garden shots with useful and very helpful advice for all aspects of gardening throughout the year!

It is set out really well and takes each month in depth, giving you lists of jobs that need doing for that month alongside colour photos of the tasks and it gives you jobs for indoors and out too!

There's also lists of plants that you can plant each month, little projects to think about doing such as making your own compost, adding a pond, planting a hedge or fernery and giving you great advice and ideas.

And they talk about ways to help the wildlife too, as well as each month giving you a list of fruit and veg that will be in season and a recipe too!! I also really enjoyed the look at different plants each month to give you more information about them along with the folklore and I felt I really learnt more about my garden through this.

There are sunset/sunrise times too and also the moon phases explained which helps with aspects of gardening and it all looks beautiful! The perfect book for a big gardening fan like myself, or to gift to a novice gardener looking to learn more about the art of gardening and all it involves!

RHS Garden Almanac 2024. This is a seasonal guide from January to December filled with advice and tips for what to do in your garden at each month of the year. It is filled with beautiful photography and illustrations, and will warm the hearts of all garden lovers. As well as gardening jobs and advice there is a monthly recipe with seasonal produce, a bit of wildlife and history information and other useful tips and tricks. The book also includes moon phases, sunrises and sunsets, and average rainfall charts. The best thing is the abundance of pictures. It is a beautiful and very useful book that would make a wonderful Christmas gift for gardeners and outdoor lovers.

I can't wait for a hardcover of this book! Beautiful photography, a lovely approach to gardening month-to-month, including through the winter, which where I'm from, is long and dreary. Complete with in-season recipes, projects, practical gardening advice, and a smattering of folklore, this will be a lovely gardening companion for 2024.

The UK’s Royal Horticultural Society has surpassed its yearly goal of producing an exemplary collection of photos and tips in its latest collection “RHS Garden Almanac 2024: A Seasonal Guide to Growing, Harvesting and Enjoying Nature,” that is brimming with inspiration for month-by-month suggestions on preparing beds; cultivating planting; pruning recommendations; setting and rising and times of the sun; waxing and waning moon phases; cooking ideas and recipes from the garden; fascinating historical and mythical stories about plants and animals; as well as intriguing legends and lore of rituals, rites, equinoxes, plus so much more.

A fantastic recipe in the book under the month of April is an Asparagus Salad that sounds so mouthwatering delicious. It’s made with sautéed asparagus tips on lettuce leaves, topped with chopped tomatoes, boiled eggs, and a light vinaigrette.

There are also monthly stories of birds, animals, flowers and folklore. One tale is of the tiny wren that was sacred to the Druids and also often thought to be a fairy in disguise.

Thinking of fairies and spirits, per anecdotes in the Almanac, the Summer Solstice (celebrated since the Neolithic Age 6,000 years ago), it was believed that on this occasion, these fey folk communed with humans.

Of course, the 2024 calendar is packed with loads more information than just fun and interesting tidbits of lore. From deadheading flowers; identifying root rot; dividing bulbs and rhizomes; and treating pests and diseases; this is a step-by-step how-to reference book for the identification, prevention and treatment of edibles and flora in your garden.

This excellent and well- illustrated book provides gardening notes — and more! It lists jobs to do for each month in the flower or vegetable patch, as well as what birds you might see, an historical note, and even a seasonal recipe. Features that I particularly like are the tables given for sun and moon rise, and average rainfall, for areas across the UK. This information is useful and seldom found in other books.

Of course, with climate change, some of the advice in the Almanac might need to be adjusted, as plants (as well as birds and pests) are forced to try and adapt. Nevertheless, the book would be a well-received present for a gardening friend or relative.

The RHS Garden Almanac 2024 is a beautiful book and will make a lovely and useful present for experienced gardeners, new gardeners and us armchair gardeners with no space but in our dreams.

Full of beautiful illustrations and photos, this monthly guide gives you history, projects, recipes as well as useful charts and guides. It advises you want to plant each month and has looks at the edible garden too.

As a lover of folklore and fairy tales the garden tales section at the end of each month was a delight.

This is a book that will be looked at each month for sure.

I know very few people who do not enjoy gardening in some manner. It could be plants on a windowsill, a vegetable garden, a flower garden or an herb garden. There is something special about troweling soil, caring for a plant. A gardener’s excitement over the first early tomato, seeing the first bud and bloom on a flower, and cutting fresh herbs for cooking.
In RHS Garden Almanac you will find gardening tips, legends, and facts. Have you ever wondered when the best time is to plant certain plants (soil conditions, water, temperatures, lunar time, amount of sun and the best locations).
This is a beautiful book, well laid out, interesting, and informative.

This is a beautiful book, the illustrations and photographs are wonderful. I definitely do not have green fingers, but I do have a garden which I promise myself to make into a nice space every year. I have purchased several books in the past but none come close to this absolute gem. It sets out everything I need to know and do, month by month for the year. It tells me what challenges I might face, it gives me recipes, it gives me stories, it gives me advice on keeping all my garden critters happy. Most of all, it gives me hope that I can finally make my garden a place to enjoy.
