Resh Gala's Vegetable Gardening Made Easy is an excellent resource for the beginner gardener. But it also has some great tips and tricks for those of us with a little more experience. The beautiful color photography guides you step by step, from creating a garden design, preparing healthy soil, and germinating your seeds, right through to harvesting and storing your plants. Particularly helpful for me was the section on propagating herbs.
I loved the charts Resh included, especially the list of easy to grow crops and the guide to sowing your seeds. And she even includes some recipes at the end. This entire book is a resource that I would come back to again and again--this is definitely going on my "to recommend" list, and I would absolutely consider purchasing the finished copy.
Special thanks to Quarto Publishing/Cool Springs Press for making a copy of this book available to review through NetGalley.

This is your all-stop-shop for vegetable gardening basics along with lots of more in-depth knowledge tips and tricks. I was impressed with how thorough the author details everything and sections it out in a way that makes it really easy to navigate. As a beginner, I will say the extensive information can feel very overwhelming, but I absolutely love having a book with everything I need to know in one place because trying to utilize a search engine online instead is even MORE overwhelming. I can't wait for this spring where I can start incorporating a lot of these tips in my own garden! It's never too early to start my planning though!
Resh started out her garden with soil from a construction site, needless to say there were no nutrients in the soil, so she learned how to put compost and good topsoil in her garden and it started to thrive!
Resh encourages you to look at you tube, pinterest, gardening sites and any other sites that will help you to visualize what you want your garden to look as you plan it out.
Choose plants that will grow during certain seasons and grow what your family likes to eat!
You can choose to grow one crop in your garden or choose (thrillers), tall plants such as corn, sunflowers, wheat tomatoes and kale, or climbers such as cucumbers, beans and peas, (fillers) such as sweet potatoes, strawberries, pumpkins or melons, and (spillers) peppers, eggplants, spinach and herbs.
You are shown how to build raised beds, the differing types of irrigation, and the easiest types of crops to grow (check your locally grown crops for the best type of crop, and also how to prevent weeds and protect your crop from insects and 4 legged animals.
You are also given directions and illustrations of how to plant seeds, where to start them and what kind of container to use.
This is a virtual encyclopedia of how to start and care for your garden - enjoy!
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
